This book was great, it is so intriguing with all that’s going on in the story it always kept my interest and I like how she portrayed the main character Ben, his character development throughout the story. Rae Knightly is such an amazing author she has such a good writing style. I myself like the theme I got from this book, which is that nothing comes without consequences, that really is so true in real life and it’s good to learn about it at my age.
The story starts in Ben's bed (the main character) with his dog, Ben had just woken up from a nightmare and turns the tv on to find out they're still talking about the cosmic fall. Later on in the story we are introduced to Ben’s mother Laura who is sweet, loving, and a bit protective. Later Ben goes to visit his grandpa who is in the hospital in a city called Chilliwack where the cosmic fall happened. Him and his grandpa (Ryan Archer) talk for a little bit then Ben goes back to his house but at this point we are introduced to most of the characters. Later in the story Ben is being chased by law enforcement because they think he is an alien because one of the cops is actually an alien and he drew some of his own blood and said it was Bens.
I think this book would be best for about 12-14 year old boys and girls. This book has a really good plot line with the way it is set up. But the book can be predictable with its plots. Sometimes that's why it would be better for a younger audience so that they will be more interested and surprised when stuff happens. But along with the book there is very good character development Ben becomes more self reliant and Laura becomes more easy on ben.
This book was a great book and I'm looking forward to reading more out of the series. There was amazingly set up cliffhangers and suspense leading into great scenes and I can just picture the story in my head perfectly. I just want to say great job to rae knigly i give this book a 4.75 stars and a 9.5/10 thank you again for the great book.
Ben Archer and The Cosmic Fall by Rae Knightly is a sci-fi thriller story that leaves the reader wanting more. At the start of this story we get introduced to Ben Archer, a young boy who was one of the five witnesses of “The Cosmic Fall” and is tasked with bearing the secrets behind this event that the government covered up.
Despite the government claiming the Cosmic Fall to be an asteroid crash, Ben knows that truly it was UFO crash landing near his Grandpas house. As Ben approaches this UFO, he is given the power of a dying alien in order to keep their power alive. After this life changing event, the drawbacks of being connected to the cosmic fall start to be manifested one by one. The government starts hunting him down in order to get answers, a shapeshifter alien from the crash starts chasing him for his power, and Ben’s entire life is starting to be thrown into chaos and confusion. After constant chaos, Ben links with one of the only survivors from the crash, Mesmo. Together, they fight and hide to keep Ben safe and avoid letting the government get what they want. Despite Ben having some sense of comfort now, there are still many unanswered questions. Why did the aliens come to Earth? What are the secrets behind Ben’s power? Who were the other witnesses? All of these questions start to get partially answered as the story progresses, however some questions are still left unanswered and only leave the reader suspense filled.
To me this book was absolutely amazing as we are constantly left unsure about whether or not Ben will live in a future where he turns out as the one on top. This book explores the corruption of humanity, developing themes that revolve around the fact that not everything is how it seems. I also like the way Rae Knightly gives every character a purpose to progress Ben’s story. The witnesses, Mesmo, and even those temporary characters that don’t stay in the story for long all have a lasting impact on the reader and stay memorable throughout the book. Despite this book having various themes, amazing character development, and staying suspenseful, it does, of course, have some negative parts to it. Some parts of the book can start to feel bland or slow, as Knightly doesn’t really add many major plot twists until the book reaches the midway point. The start of the story starts with some confusion as well, as multiple events occur without the reader getting much context. However, from my perspective, I believe these bland moments have a purpose, as they allow Knightly to develop characters at her own pace.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book as it offered suspense-filled events as we follow the life-changing story of Ben Archer; the boy who teams up with an alien to fight against a corrupt government and unforseen forces. I would definetly reccomend this book to a younger audience as it uses a very fictional storyline that younger readers could have a better time enjoying.
I read the first book in the series several years ago. Reading the first three books all together like this help me understand the story more thoroughly, and made it more interesting. There are more books in the series, but the author did a good job wrapping up the themes in the first three books.
Super read for middle grade readers and the young at heart. You'll fall in love with Ben as he discovers he has an alien skill and learns how to use it. Each book provides a new adventure and you'll find yourself cheering on this likeable protagonist as he makes big decisions. Be prepared to pick up the second compilation. You'll want to read to the end.
impressive! Really enjoyed this. Usually don't care for "teen/young adult" books as that seems to be creative license for sloppy writing with barely a plot, but this came highly recommended. It is an epic tale with great writing & good proofing as well. If the character development was even a bit more involved it would get 5 stars from me. Can hardly wait to read the rest!
The author weaves a fantastic story filled with travel and intrigue across Canada. Human origin, special abilities, interpersonal drama all balanced in an adventure make the story a great read.
