Blue mages learn skills from beasts. This is the story of one fortunate enough to be taken in by dragons. This is a sequel to The Kingdom Razed by Dragons.
Meh. I think the premise is running a bit thin for me on this one. I was more bored than entertained by the majority of it. It starts out slow like the second book, but then it never really picks up much. Also, it just didn’t have the humor that the first two books had. It feels very made-up-as-the-author-went-along-y.
Mare did a great job with narration, but the book falls way short with Vir. Vir boils down to a child with not a care in the world, to much power, spoiled rotten, ZERO empathy and being this is the 3rd book he has not learned anything to make him grow and mature.
I can't wait for the next book that is how good this series is this is the fourth of city time I binge read these three books please bring us more fun and adventures with your next book
For someone who ate half of a tree of knowledge, Vir still has no book smarts or street smarts.
The person who shows up as the foil turns out to have the intelligence of a potato.
There are very few stakes. (I know it's a slice of life, but give me a little more here.)
The water elemental who fled at the end of the last book is inexplicably bonded to Vir now.
We are given no reason as to why everyone has taken this sudden trip to another continent.
Overall, it's not terrible, but I would recommend stopping at book 2. I'm only reading the next book because I've purchased it already. I'm hoping the shorter length makes it easier to get through.
The thought that came to mind was, in surreal fantasies, the reader needs a sensible character to act as the foil... or a POV character. E.g. Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, etc. In this series' first book we had Tafel but then had to switch to Alice in book two since Tafel drank the coolaid. Sadly, Alice didn't keep her sense to the end of book two and now, in book three, there are no sensible characters of any note. It's nuttiness all the way down.
This series would be better tolerated if the read were spread out... perhaps one book every few months. Binge reading the story leads to a cutesie overload - for me at least.
The book was okay. I felt that it did not do justice to the first two in the series, they were both really fun reads so this one let me down a little bit. If you are interested in very overpowered main characters who just don't realize how powerful they are the series overall is a nice read.
This has turned into a fantastic series. I did forget to mention in my first two reviews how much these books make me hate dragons! Such assholes, even the cool ones are goddamn jerks! 👍🏾👍🏾
While the narrator does a decent job (seriously this is the primary redeeming feature) the plot of this is just straying to run rather thin. Vir has become little more than a spoiled man-child lacking in even the slightest of redeeming features.
A fun magical romp that reminded me of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I hope there will be more. Like in Discworld, the main characters have become so well established that I smile as they enter a scene and I look forward to seeing what they will say or do next. Very entertaining, especially when you are in need of humor and fun.
