The setting of The Viking’s Gift is based on historical fact.
King Harthacanute ordered the destruction of the prosperous market town of Worcester and the slaughter of all its inhabitants in retaliation for the murder of two tax collectors. It’s also documented that Earl Leofric reluctantly obeyed and destroyed the town, but that few lost their lives.
This tale is a fictional account of how that came about thanks to the intervention of one of the king’s Viking messengers who fell in love with a girl he met on her way to Worcester’s market.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋 If you like your books based on true history and a little fiction rather than pure fiction this is a great one for you .
A novella that gives an outline of the destruction of Worcester in 1041 .
And a romance between the messenger ,who took the instructions from King Harthacanute to the Earl or Worcester , and a young woman he met on the road .
Wulfram and Roswitha have a brief and beautiful meeting and romance before he whisks her back to his own country to keep the both safe .
Really enjoyable read. I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
I love it when an author writes a story based on true facts and of course adds a romantic version to it:) As soon as I finished reading it, I started researching what had really occurred in Worcester in 1041 and I also had fun reading all about Lady Godiva!! This is why I love historical romances so very much, I learn so much history.
It's instant love between Wulfram and Roswitha when they first meet but danger abounds all around them and she must put her trust in him to keep her safe. I so enjoyed reading of the different traditions the Jomsvikings had, Anna Markland really brings it all to life through her words.
I definitely recommend this book, it's a wonderful novella to spend a couple of hours with:)

. . 🥰 Happy reading, and until the next reading. . . 😘
A great short story packed with historical references and Viking customs, all seamlessly interwoven into a beautiful romance. The author brings this period and the characters to life.
England, December 1041 Wulfram and Sandor had been summoned to King Harthacanute after not hearing a word for almost eighteen months since coming to England to help man his ships. They were given orders to take revenge and go to the Earl of Mercia and tell him the town of Worcester was to be destroyed and everyone in the town. The Bishop of that town had been complacent in the murder of his half brother and they had killed his tax collectors. What were the brothers to do? When her cart toppled over, Rowsitha came upon the two brothers and recognized them as Danes. When Wulfram first saw her, he felt something peculiar inside. She was on her way to the very town they were to destroy. But there seems a way they may save the people and could Wulfran persuade Roswitha to come with him and be his wife? A fictional story based on a true happening as only Anna Markland can deliver, that will make you sigh at the end.
