The day Ryan Fulton realises he’s in love with Jamie Holt is the day he knows he’s losing him. With blue-tinted white blond hair, eyeliner, and a personality to match, Ryan knows he’s a bit much. But can he change? Can he tone it down and, if he does, can he live like that? He’d never suspect Jamie of cheating, but maybe his closeted boyfriend decided flamboyant Ryan wasn’t worth the effort.
But Ryan isn’t going to take it lying down. Determined to win Jamie back, Ryan even decides to get rid of the black and blue lace undies he just bought.
Biography My name is Ruby Moone and I love books. All kinds of books. My weakness is for romance, and that can be any kind, but I am particularly fond of historical and paranormal. I decided to write gay romance after reading some fantastic books and falling in love with the genre, so am really thrilled to have my work published here. The day job takes up a lot of my time, but every other spare moment finds me writing or reading. I live in the north west of England with my husband who thinks that I live in two worlds. The real world and in the world in my head...he probably has a point!
Super short and super sweet, this is a delightful little snippet into the lives of two blokes who have both been keeping their hearts close to their chests.
Ruby Moone is a new to me author, so when I picked up this book I didn't know what to expect. It's a short story - more like a scene really - about a day in a couple's life.
Ryan and Jamie are a committed couple that moved in together a few months ago and they are very different in almost every aspect of their lives. Ryan likes experimenting with different colors in his hair, he wears eyeliner and clothes in vivid colors. Jamie keeps his hair in their natural tone and dresses conventionally. Also, where Ryan is all the way out of the closet, Jamie keeps one foot in it, not hiding but not exactly open about his sexuality either.
I don't know if there's a full novel telling the beginning of this couple's story but "Eyeliner and Lace" read like a bonus scene of one. There was something missing, small details about the characters and their history. The writing style was good even though the second half of the story was slightly too corny for my taste.
I liked the beginning, where Ryan had all these suspicions about Jamie's behavior and no matter what was going on he was determined to fight for him and keep him.
The truth wasn't a big surprise but it did seem like a rash decision. As a couple, they had no consistency in their actions. They were committed and lived together, yet they didn't really know how the other felt. I think this happened so a big emotional scene could take place.
Other than that though, this is an enjoyable book, an easy and quick read to pass the time when you don't want to think about what's happening too much.

Ryan and Jamie are an already established couple, living together for the last couple of months and everything had been going great up until recently. Sneaky phone calls, distracting texts, changing of passwords and leaving without explanation of where or with who has Ryan an insecure, heartbroken mess. All signs lead to Jamie losing interest, after all, he’s so much different than Jamie, right?
Where Jamie is shy and keeps to himself, Ryan is out there, living his best life, with his blue hair, gorgeous eyeliner, and bold and bright clothes. Ryan thinks that maybe he’s a bit too much and if it means losing Jamie, he can tone it down some, right? Strip the blue and lose the eyeliner, it would be boring and he’d feel plain and simple, but he’d do it for Jamie.
I cried all the tears! All of them! At four in the morning, because I hated that Ryan felt like he had to change himself to be what someone else wanted. How often do people do that? It kills me every time.
Just when Ryan realized he couldn’t live without Jamie, he was convinced he was going to lose him. All is not as it seems though, and though I won’t give the rest away, I will say that I adored Jamie and his love for Ryan and I wish so badly that there was more to this couple…. I’d read them all day! I would love to know how they started out together….
Wait, this is a first for me from this author, so I’m going to have to go look… but even if not, just read this one… it’s o sweet, a little heartbreaking for a quick minute, but it ended in the best possible way. I need more of them!
I guess everything is in the blurb. With a blurb as chaotic and badly-written as this, there's nothing to expect from the main story... a main story that was everything but a story. The narration is off and the length highly deplorable. After having re-read several passages several times to undertand what the author truly meant, I gave in. For a miniature read, the displeasure was disproportionate!
The cover is as horrible as the rest if not more, by the way. It doesn't increase the rating. I don't know the male model but I am tired of his face. I see it more often on books than my pet's at home!
This is a wonderful short story about the uncertainty of a new relationship and the realization of love. When Ryan, who dresses loudly and wears makeup, thinks his boyfriend, Jamie is moving on from their relationship, he thinks he has to change and gets his friend to agree to a shopping trip. Although the insecurity is a bit angsty, Ryan is brave and confronts Jamie about his fears. It's a great short read and you can feel the love between the two men! Absolutely lovely!!
Ryan is losing Jamie. He thinks it’s because his hair is to blue or his eyeliner is to much or his clothes aren’t right or just...because... He can dye his hair, get rid of the liner, take back the lacy underwear (well maybe not that). He will do anything to keep his man.
Very short little snippet of a story. Cute and sweet. I can see Ryan, the author brought him alive. I liked it.

Jamie is flamboyant with blue hair and eyeliner, his boyfriend, Ryan, is closeted. Jamie is sure that Ryan is having second thoughts about their relationship and he's convinced himself that it's because of the way he dresses, his blue hair, and his eyeliner.
This is a really great short story. It difficult to convey a lot about the characters in a short story but Ruby Moone does a great job of giving us all that we need to know in very few words; that Jamie loves Ryan so much he's willing to go to any lengths to keep him.
Communication is the key to any relationship and secrets aren't good, even when it's with the best of intentions. Jamie and Ryan's failure to communicate with each other is the cause of Jamie's uncertainty about their relationship.
Have no fear there is an HEA. This was a very satisfying story that managed to make me shed a few tears (that means it's good – lol).

4-1/2 Stars Eyeliner and Lace is so super short almost more of a snippet but that's okay because it works. I'm not really going to say too much about this one because it is so short and I don't want to give anything away. Just know that despite its shortness, this is an amazing look at love, fear, friendship, romance, and assumptions. That's right, I said assumptions and we all know what happens when we assume😉😉. I don't want to say Jamie and Ryan need to communicate more because there are times when secrets are necessary but when we let fear reign over the possibilities behind secrets, well that's when trouble can happen. Eyeliner and Lace is a lovely little gem that is worth the read and will leave a smile on your face.
There’s not a lot I can say about his book without giving everything away. It’s only 17 pages so there isn’t much room to story-build.
Ryan is sweet and silly and he loves his boyfriend. He’s always very, very dramatic in a way that always makes me want to roll my eyes, even if I end up liking the character a lot.
There’s not a lot to Jamie and the only thing we really get to know about him is that he’s very nice and very shy and loves his boyfriend a whole lot.
It’s a cute book with an obvious plot that’s mean to be read in less than an hour and I recommend doing it sitting on the sofa on a rainy day, sipping a cup of tea and cuddling under a blanket. There’s really no angst to it, although some of Ryan’s self-doubt is a little heart-breaking. It feels more like an epilogue moment to a long story than anything else. Some short stories feel like a complete novel without needing anything longer to support it. This one does not.
There’s nothing “wrong” with the book, it’s just not spectacular in any way. If you’re looking for something quick and easy and that will make you smile on a blah day, you’ll probably adore this story.

This is a short story (211 locations on Kindle) detailing a scary moment for Ryan in his relationship with Jamie. Jamie is the epitome of professional and, in Ryan’s words, “Jamie was all but in the closet, Ryan was…out there.” Jamie wears suits, Ryan wears tight pants, eyeliner and dyes his hair white and blue. They live together and are happy. At least Ryan thought so until Jamie starts to act suspicious. Text messages and calls from “no one”; leaving home or coming home late with no real explanation of where he’s been, changing passwords and general evasiveness. Ryan knows he can be “a bit much” and wants to tone it down, do whatever he can to keep Jamie. Or, woo him back. “Woo him…” Aiden’s face was a picture. “What are you? Some kind of fricking Victorian mill owner?” Aiden is Ryan’s best friend and he’s lovely. He’s also convinced Ryan has lost his mind about Jamie, as he knows Jamie adores Ryan. But the evidence is against him. Because the story is so short, this is really just a scene from their lives. I thought it was well written and the misunderstanding completely understandable. I would have loved more, because I wanted to know – how did they meet? What did Jamie’s family think of Ryan? Why is Jamie closeted? Their history and backstory, because I liked them very much. It is a cute, sweet short for a super quick read.
Ryan thinks he's losing his boyfriend, but he's determined to win him back. Since his boyfriend is closeted, Ryan thinks he needs to tone down his appearance to win Jamie back. Jamie thought he was being sneaky, but realizes that he needs to open up and tell Ryan what's going on.
Getting short stories to work well can be difficult, but this one is a cute read. I was glad to see Jamie moving forward and trying to do right by Ryan. I loved that he reassures Ryan that he doesn't want him to change, that he's perfect as he is. I did think it was a bit odd that they hadn't declared their feelings to each other before this, but I just rolled with it. I enjoyed reading it, even as I guessed part of the ending. If you're looking for a short read with a good HEA, this one might work for you.

Very short and sweet. The story being so short the misunderstanding of course couldn't turn into angst for the sake of angst; but these guys actually communicated before things escalated. Put a smile on my face.
Super cute shortie about Jamie and Ryan who have been living together for a short time. Ryan, with his eyeliner, blue hair and OTT, clothes thinks that Ryan has "gone off him." He vows to change because he thinks that Jamie wants someone more sedate. But that's not the issue. Loved this little palate cleanser gobbet of a book that highlights love, romance and commitment.
Misunderstandings provoke Ryan to think he should tone down his style for the love of his life, Jamie. What would we do for a romantic premise if it weren’t for misunderstandings and miscommunications? This is a likable nugget of romance.
A really short and a really sweet story about secrets, doubts, and true love. Oh, and lacy undies and eyeliner. Both Ryan and Jamie are so stinking sweet they made me wish the story was longer. Beautifully written and very enjoyable.
