Muses is the second novel in the Paranormal Grievance Committee Chronicles series, but each book can stand alone.
Elizabeth Andre writes lesbian romance and cozy paranormal mysteries. She is a lesbian in an interracial same-sex marriage living in the Midwest. She hopes you enjoy her stories. She certainly loves writing them.
I’d been a bit disappointed by The Curse of the Old Woods, the first book in the series, because I loved the idea of lesbian paranormal detectives but felt the execution was not as good as it could have been. I’m happy to say that while that first book was okay, the second one is much better. The writing has improved, it’s very well paced, the story is more complex, everything just flows better.
I’m looking forward to finding out more about the characters in the next books, as each member of the team has potential to be a main character. I’m not advocating for the focus to change, I love that the MCs are lesbians, but I find the secondary characters interesting too in their own right.
And I have to say, I really love the covers!
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I basically started the second book in the series a day after finishing the first. I will say that for the most part I enjoyed this one quite a bit more.
The first book started out on the slower side. I'm happy to say that in this book, the action started pretty much from the beginning.
The two main characters, Maya and Julie are great and I really wanted to see what would happen with not only them, but the rest of the Paranormal Grievance Committee crew.
That said, I was a little let down on the romance side of things. I'm sure part of it is because it is not even remotely going in the direction I expected. It's not even that I'm upset with the way things are headed. I think it's more that it almost feels like the author is going in a different direction because she didn't want to be predictable. It's not bad and so far I don't hate it, but it also feels like several steps were skipped in order to get there.
That kind of ties in to my next point. A lot of character development and character interactions were just skipped entirely. Dialog that I felt would have been important, was glossed over because the real focus is more on the ghosts and their stories less on Maya and Julie.
Don't get me wrong, I think that what really drew me in to this story this time was the ghosts and their story. While Maya, Julie, and crew are the main characters, I feel like they sort of took a backseat this time around. I was also hoping to get into Julie's head a bit more.
3.75 stars for this one. I'm pretty hyped to see where they series goes.

Sapphic review: I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I hadn’t read any of Elizabeth Andre’s books before so this was a new author for me. Having read the second book in this series I will now be buying the first book as I enjoyed this book immensely.
If you enjoy books about the paranormal then this book is definitely for you.
I loved that this book not only dealt with the paranormal but also delved into a time where being gay was not only disapproved of but also very much hidden.
The characters are well written and I found myself hoping that Maya and Lily would be able to explore a relationship if they survived the spirits that haunted the house…..
As a firm believer in the paranormal, it was interesting to see how the story developed and how much of it I could relate back to my own experiences and those of close friends who are gifted enough to be able to see and communicate with spirits.
I really did enjoy this book and will be looking for more from this author starting with book 1 in this series.
Well worth the read if you have any interest in the paranormal or just enjoy a good story with twists and turns you won’t see coming.
What a fun read! Scary in places, angsty in others. The book opens with Julie and Maya on a date and then moves into their newest case. All the other members of the Paranormal Grievance Committee are present as well, although a couple of new characters are introduced. I enjoyed the case. It’s much different from the case in the first book so it keeps the book feeling fresh. There are multiple ghosts involved and their situation is more complex. Maya’s puzzled because they don’t respond to her like she’s used to. There are many elements that are unusual the for the PGC. I’m fascinated by Eddie’s mysterious abilities and I want to know more. I’m also curious about what’s going to happen with Julie and Maya. There are a couple of disappointments for me, but those are personal quirks of mine – I wanted a different outcome for a particular situation, but the direction Ms. Andre seems to be going may work out better. I’m worried about spoilers so I’m just going to stop while I’m ahead and recommend this book. If you like paranormal stories, you’ll enjoy this. I am looking forward to the next one.
Muses (Paranormal Grievance Committee Chronicles Book 2) — Elizabeth Andre (24 titled chapters) Jan 20-21, 2022
This is the second book in this series, and although there were things I liked in the story, the secondary plot with romance with Maya and Julie rubbed me a little wrong. Those two so belong together, but that’s neither here nor there right now.
A trio of sister ghosts is haunting a house by a writer who used them as muses. When he wants them no more, something violent happens which causes his death. The niece, Lily, comes to straighten the house and prepare it for sale only to have the bickering ghosts cause so much havoc that Lily is forced to call the Paranormal Grievance Committee in to help get rid of them.
However, Maya’s usual ability to talk to the ghosts doesn’t work and while the ghosts continue their terrible haunting, one ghost is very attracted to Lily.
Maya feels this is the way to talk to the ghosts and sets a plan in motion to make the wrongs of the past right once again.
A decent read, but like mentioned earlier, I’m not happy with the fallout between Maya and Julie and hope they eventually see this.
They’re Back…. The crew from the Paranormal Grievance Committee are back at it again! While this is a sequel it is just fine on its own and it is every bit the treat that the first book is!!
When I found out about this book, I was SO excited!!! I adored The Curse of the Old Woods (Paranormal Grievance Committee Chronicles Book 1) so I was like a kid on xmas morning when I got my copy. Oh my! Oh gosh! Oh wow! I was SO not disappointed!!! The main plot of the story is the ghost but right, sure. But, you have all these different subplots and relationships all going on at the same time throughout the book and of course, thank you Ms Andre, it all works so seamlessly it has to be magic!
I was so captivated by this tale! The characters, the drama, the emotions, the history and romance…. deeper and deeper I went into the story until the outside world all but disappeared. I worried, I laughed, I stressed, I cried and I smiled and at the end I was so happy and more than a little curious as to what comes next.
