Kiss Me Again

Rate this book
Tree surgeon Aidan Drummond is content with his own company. He works alone, and lives alone, and it doesn’t occur to him to want anything else until a life-changing accident lands him in hospital. Then a glimpse of the beautiful boy in the opposite bed changes everything.

Ludo Giordano is trapped on the ward with a bunch of old men. His mind plays tricks on him, keeping him awake. Then late one night, a new face brings a welcome distraction. Their unlikely friendship is addictive. And, like most things in Ludo’s life, temporary.

Back in the real world, Aidan’s monochrome existence is no longer enough. He craves the colour Ludo brought him, and when a chance meeting brings them back together, before long, they’re inseparable again.

But bliss comes with complications. Aidan is on the road to recovery, but Ludo has been unwell his entire life, and that’s not going to change. Aidan can kiss him as much as he likes, but if he can’t help Ludo when he needs him most, they don’t stand a chance.

I read a fair amount of Garrett Leigh books, but I know each time that I'm in for something on the heavy side. Kiss Me Again was exactly that. If you are in the mood for something angsty, British, and more than a touch depressing, this is your story.

There was something so wonderfully atmospheric about this story. I felt like I was in the British countryside, and I was right there with them, reading during a gloomy, overcast day. It had a dreamy, melancholy weight to the story that's a bit hard to describe.

Both characters are really struggling during the course of the story. One had a physical ailment, due to a horrible accident, and the other has been living with bipolar disorder for many years. They both are in so much pain that it felt like a relief to have them get some comfort from one another.

I found the plot to be really compelling, even if I though the romance bordered on the level of an unhealthy fixation. I liked how their love didn't solve their issues but gave them someone to lean on a bit and share their life with. There was a lot of tender emotions there, and I felt a lot of feelings while reading this story.

It was maybe not a book I would usually pick up, but I'm really glad I did. If you are a fan of Garrett Leigh, you will enjoy this story.

If there's one thing I've come to expect from Garrett Leigh,it's that her stories don't hold back.In all the years I've been reading her books she's tackled some very emotive issues and this one certainly stands out.The blurb touches on issues but isn't specific so I'm not going to get into each men's issues in any great detail....but,be warned this book has a melancholy feeling to it.And it might not work for everyone. But if you want to read something that's really real and that a lot of people deal with, written with such grit and quite frankly in a captivating way then this might be for you.

Aiden and Ludo first connect in hospital....but it was always destined to be so much more.Different issues, different men but I fully connected to them individually and together.

I ABSOLUTULEY LOVED Aiden.....a completely grumpy b@stard....jaded with life, his only high was his trees and going down the pub ( a British thing ).....but behind that gruff exterior there was a man wanting something...and that something turned out to be Ludo.

Ludo with all his problems and insecurities and his illness rescued Aiden when he probably didn't even know he wanted to be rescued.

I totally got a handle on Ludo ( without going into anything ),his condition was both enlightening and disturbing-told in the most emotive way.Kudos to the Author for tackling this subject and actually making me understand it.

Go into this one knowing it won't be an easy read but at the end a truly beautiful story.

Would definitely recommend .

I can't say this story was enjoyable in the true sense of the word, because for the most part I felt like there was a grey cloud hanging over my head.

However, I appreciate it for what it was - a glimpse in the life of two lonely characters who deal with some heavy issues.

Contrary to my expectations, it was easier for me to connect with Ludo than Aidan. I just understood him better. I guess the author did a really good job of presenting his condition.

Aidan and Ludo were perfect together. I really liked how they cared for each other, how supportive they were and how they accepted each other the way they were. The slow transition from friendship to something more was done really well. And the ending was beautiful.

I know that for some readers Garret Leigh’s stories are too angst ridden or depressing. I never felt that way. For me, her stories, including this one, is about everyone deserving a HEA. Characters with a dark past, people next door who face everyday shitty situations, protagonists who fall in love in what seems like a hopeless place, they ALL get a chance in love.

That said, if you think that her other stories were too angsty, you might find yourself a tad overwhelmed with this one. Both characters have troubled pasts and their present is even harder. I’ll spoil a couple of things so don’t click if you want to go in completely blind.

Ludo and Aidan meet in a hospital. Not the best place to meet a potential love interest but it worked so incredibly well here. I loved those scenes because the MCs made an amazing connection and formed a very unique bond during that time.
"His favourite colour is green. I don’t want to tell Aidan that my favourite colour terrifies me, so I don’t."

Ludo is such a unique guy. I can only imagine how complex it was writing his POV. And Aidan loved Ludo in such an amazing way. He never thought he was flawed and broken and went all the way in from the get go. I loved how this gruff and apathetic guy went all sweaty and nervous in Ludo’s presence.

The writing is phenomenal, as always. Leigh’s gritty, effortless, no bullshit narrative really speaks to my soul every single time.

The steam level is moderate or even low but the couple sex scenes are very intense and steamy.

Ludo is Angelo’s cousin (the protag of Dream). Don’t worry, though, the books are very loosely connected and Angelo is only mentioned a couple of times. I really wanted to see the cousins reuniting again, though. It was obvious it was getting there but it didn’t happen. Also, I would have liked some closure about Aidan and his dad, but I guess life is like that sometimes. Not everything is meant to be fixed.

Overall, I LOVED this one and I highly recommend it, especially for the fans of the author, or if you ‘re looking for something gritty and melancholic.
"You see, there’s a wildness inside me that will never be entirely tamed, and for the first time in forever, I’m okay with that."

This was lovely, but so sad. It’s pretty short but it took me 3 days to get through because I had to put it down at times because it was too much. Nothing much happens, it isn’t really an angsty book, but being in Ludo’s brain was really hard at times.

Aidan is a lonely man. An accident lands him in the hospital where he meets Ludo. Ludo is bipolar. When they meet again outside the hospital, they rekindle their friendship and fall in love. I loved them so much as a couple. And I loved the slow pace of the story, just watching them live their lives, go through struggles, and fall in love. I also loved that it was low heat. There are some sex scenes, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes all you want is a cuddle.

One small thing: I wish there was a bit more about their families, and their pasts. It feels like we never got the full story.

This is a beautiful, compelling story if not a joyful one.

Aidan shatters his leg in an accident that should have killed him. While recovering in the hospital, he meets Ludo. Wild, unpredictable, Ludo has bipolar disorder. When he's Yellow (manic), he thinks he can fly and he falls.

The voices of the MCs are distinct, with Ludo's narration feeling almost like stream of consciousness, appropriate considering how his brilliant mind works.

The relationship develops at once slowly and frantically. The men begin to rely on one another almost immediately, but both struggle with demons past and present.

There is just enough background story to make the MCs feel real, and the hurt/comfort made my heart ache. Gorgeous, evocative writing and a hopeful ending seal the deal.

Leigh's books are not always my cuppa, but I liked this one a great deal.

I had so many notes on this book, but life happens *le sighs*.

Kiss Me Again was... Really raw, the characters were written in a way that I felt they were truly open to the reader, like I could see their brains if u know what I mean.

Ludo is a very difficult character to be with, being in his pov was really hurtful sometimes, it was confusing and I just wanted for him to have a miracle cure. Mental Illnesses don't have a cure I know that, but I so wish they have, for Ludo and all of us out there.

But I must say that his mind was also a very interesting place, I didn't have much info of his Illness and even though I felt it was well portrayed, I'm no expert, so I enjoyed to have a peek of how his mind works. It was a lovely chaos to watch, specially how Ludo was accepting of who he is and how he tried to thrive.

Aidan was a good partner, I do feel his infatuation with Ludo was insta as fuck, but I loved him for trying and loving Ludo.

This is a lovely story, hard to read at some points and full of hope in others.

Lovely! 🥰🥰💗

Whew, Garrett is not messing around here folks. Nope. This one is…..INTENSE. Prepare to be swept away, caught in a torrential storm of emotions. I’m battered, bruised, and smiling so big it hurts. That’s kinda how things work when I open a GL Special. Without question, I hand over my heart and know she will return it with a new scar. I’m beyond thrilled to add Aidan and Ludo’s mark to her map of memories. We meet Aidan and instantly the first pivotal scene takes place before we really know what’s going on. You see, Aidan is a victim of a devastating accident. But he can’t regret the new path this near-fatal day led him to. Falling from the one and only place that ever gave him comfort capsized his life. Shattered and broken, Aidan is lost in disarray. And then, he comes along and his life is forever changed. It’s like he waited his whole life for this one man and he appeared exactly when he needed him. Perfect timing for imperfect men who love each other not in spite of, but for their imperfections.

What's to like:
Did you notice the cover? Wow…you should feast your eye’s on it. The significance makes me shiver. Stunning! Another powerful feature is the title. I had goosebumps when I came across the moment of its importance. Well, to be honest at that point my body was alight, nerves buzzing and I prayed my eyes wouldn’t let me down as I read in the wee hours to finish. I bank on reading straight through when my emotions become entangled with a story and I knew this was a one-shot read by the first few chapters. I also knew I had to be in the right frame of mind for this one. The first time I opened it, I wasn’t ready. And I refuse to allow myself to sabotage an amazing book because I wasn’t prepared. Take my advice, steel yourself before you begin. You’re gonna need it.

What's to love: As always, Leigh presents two souls meant for one another. She brings them together and missing pieces link, lock, and hold fast. Aidan is miserable and cares about almost nothing. He doesn’t do humans very well. However, he does have a soft spot for trees. That would probably have to do with the fact that humans always failed him but his majestic friends never did. They were a constant in his life when nothing else was. They provided an escape and bit of joy during his bleak childhood. As soon as he was able, he began to protect them. He longs to save as many as he can. Sadly, it doesn’t seem to matter how many he rescues, the holes in his heart never fill. That is until…until Ludo. Ludo has fought many battles in his days and not many would understand what it takes for him to survive them. He doesn’t always understand himself. Oddly enough, the stranger in the hospital who captivates him beyond measure does. Aidan holds the key to the secret code of Ludo. His solid presence soothes Ludo’s soul like nothing ever has. Proving their connection can weather the obstacles sure to come may be more difficult than either anticipated. Luckily for us, Leigh demonstrates the unlimited strength true love holds. We also have the pleasure of witnessing how beautiful the unconditional love of a dog can be. Bella steals the show more than once and I clung to her unbridled happiness. If you’re familiar with Leigh’s work, you know she weaves her stories together, connecting them with glistening, never-ending threads. And you’re gonna flip your lid with this one!

Beware of: Mental health bared in its true colors. A slight but necessary separation. And the epitome of soul mates.

This book is for: Angst lovers, Garrett Leigh lovers, and anyone looking for a tender pursuit of completeness only true love can provide.

If you enjoy a good slow burn and MC's that suffer the realness of life, then Kiss Me Again will be right up your tree. It sure was mine! I love Garrett Leigh's writing style and the utter Britishness of her boys.

Ludo Giordano is bipolar and as much as he tries to stay in his meds, sometimes, when he's feeling well, he gets distracted or forgets and then life gets interesting. When that happens, he often ends up in the hospital because he hurts himself. It was after one such incident that Ludo finds himself sharing a room with Aidan Drummond and Aidan is someone he wants to get to know.

Aidan is a quiet, private guy. He's kind of gruff and very self deprecating. He loves his work as a tree surgeon, though. Making a sick tree well again gives his life meaning and trees are so peaceful. Aidan isn't really happy, however. He trudges through life and spends most of his free time at the pub, practicing to be an alcoholic. It's not an awesome life.

Aidan and Ludo become friends during the time they're both in the hospital, but then don't see each other for months, during which time Aidan almost loses himself entirely, until a chance encounter with Ludo gives him a reason to take stock.

Kiss Me Again is such a beautiful story full of hope and longing. There's some angst, I can't imagine reading one of Garrett Leigh's books without angst, but it was sweet too. I loved how their relationship developed, with a solid friendship transitioning into more. I loved how Aidan never treated Ludo like he was broken and how Ludo never gave up. I loved how everything felt so organic and real. And I loved watching Aidan and Ludo find their way.

Recommended.

When I read a Garrett Leigh romance I know my emotions and my brain will be put through the ringer.

However, I also know that, ultimately, I will be left with such an overwhelming sense of hope once the story is done. Her books depict life in all its many shades, there is harshness but there is also joy.

This one is one of her best imho, it takes a truly complex medical condition - that of bipolar - and not only never sugarcoats the manic highs and scary lows, but also treats Ludo, and how it affects every aspect of his life, with respect.

There are moments in this when I wanted to shout at Aiden to warn him that Ludo was falling, moments when I wanted to hug Aiden because he was so determined to be the best help he could.

The scenes in the hospital when the two first meet are among the finest Garrett has written. The disorientation, the fears, the pain, the connection, the start of something beautiful, is all laid out with such clarity.

There wasn't a bit of this book that didn't work for me and I love how it's also linked with a loose thread to her Dreams series. Ludo is Angelo's cousin and while there is no reunion in this book, I'd love for Aiden and Ludo to take a trip down to Joe's farm and visit with the gang.

Another brilliant addition to the catalogue of exemplary works from this author.

Where to begin with this beauty? Kiss Me Again by Garrett Leigh took hold of me from the first page; I ended up reading it in one sitting. I requested it on the cover alone, and once the blurb was posted, I was ever so glad that I did.

Kiss Me Again's two main characters deal with some weighty issues; both different, but both that some readers can relate to. There's such beauty to the writing, this quiet, melancholy that's GL's signature style.

Some highlights:

-Opposites attract. Aidan is quiet and irritable, while Ludo is kind and loopy, but each finds precisely what each needs in each other.

-Their meeting. Never read anything like it, and I loved it. It was different and sweet.

-Dual POVs

-Chemistry

-Slow burn

-Full of feels/Angst

-Hurt/Comfort/Healing

-Friends to lovers. The relationship development was exquisitely written.

-I appreciate that all of GL's characters come from different walks of life. I'm so tired of the same ol' privileged characters.

-The ending was all kinds of romantic.

Kiss Me Again is a beautiful, compelling story of hope. I loved everything about it and can't recommend it enough.

5+ Stars. One of my favorite books of 2019.

Ah, this is the Garrett Leigh I love! And what a fab book it is!

Two guys: both living in loneliness, bereft of human contact, barely coping with life as it is.

Ludo:
"I was an impossible child, and now I’m a difficult man."
"I have bipolar disease, …, among other things … Anxiety, paranoia, depression. Sometimes it’s symptomatic of the disease, sometimes, it’s just me."

Ludo amazed me – the way he copes with his illness, even if it isn't working all the time. Garrett Leigh gives us a lot of insight in bipolar when we share his thoughts, and boy, it’s darn hard to see how much energy it takes him to get through life every single day.

Aiden:

"Aiden is all sharp edges and deflective defence. He’s not a man who’s been loved."
"How sad and lonely he was, despite how hard he tried to hide it with indifference and anger."
"Worrying about other people never crossed my mind, and I shoved aside anyone who dared to care about me."

Aiden is such a grumpy asshole at the beginning. Rude and snappy. Supposedly indifferent and uncaring towards other people. I can imagine that some readers won’t like him at all. But when you hear his story, you totally get why he is like that. And there are quite a few little things he does showing that he does care about others! More kudos to the author here!

When Aiden and Ludo meet in hospital something happens neither expects – they form a bond, a connection, as if their souls recognize each other and understand how the other one works because they have gone through similar things.

Writing this, I know it sounds weird.
Or silly.
Or unlikely and over the top.

But this is how it felt to me. And it is really well written.
It’s touching and genuine. This gentle bond, the friendship that grows between them and encourages conversation, touch and affection. Something neither man has a lot of experience with. And it changes both of them … for the better.

I think this is my favourite part in this book – how each man alone is desperate and struggling, but together they blossom and develop into better people because caring for another person does that to you. Loved how ‘caring for each other’ means and affects so much!

The insecurity each man faces about getting involved in a relationship, about falling in love is enormous, the anxiety attached to it all phenomenal. And naturally Ludo’s bipolar doesn’t make things easier. But they do get there, they do find each other, lean on each other without losing the sight of reality.

Aiden loves me and I love him, but that doesn’t mean we’ve healed each other. Pain is still real. Black is still black. The only difference is that we’re both still there at the end.

Two lovely, complex characters, fabulous character development and beautiful writing.

Amazing story! Review soon...

***********

"Kiss Me Again" is one of the best books I've read by Garrett Leigh to date. It's a heartwarming story about two lonely men finding acceptance and the the joy of life in each other.

Aidan has spend his whole life alone and he likes it that way. The only company he needs are the trees he works to save. When he's on top of one he's serene and the happiest he thinks he'll ever be. He spends his days working and his nights drinking and he doesn't want to change a thing. A nasty fall from a tree though will drive him to the hospital and in the bed opposite the most intriguing man he's ever set eyes on.

Ludo has learned to stay away from people because he knows no one will stick around once they truly see him. He was diagnosed with bipolar many years ago and is trying to manage it with the sole help of professionals and no support system of his own. His family abandoned him long ago and he doesn't have any friends so he has to depend on his doctors to make him better when he falls and on himself to realize when he is about to fall.

Ludo and Aidan's relationship is a slow burn. While they were both in the hospital they started to seek each other out and spend time together. They came to care about the other and try to help any way they could.

A few months after they got out of the hospital and didn't know how to contact each other, they meet again by chance. Their attraction is still there and they continue with the friendship that started many months ago. Their connection is based on understanding and acceptance. They're both most comfortable away from society so that works well for them spending time together. Aidan gets Ludo in ways no one has before, he let's him speak, he listens to him, he isn't afraid of what he might do and he doesn't shy away from the reality of Ludo's condition.

However, Aidan only knows what little Ludo told him and what the results of a few internet searches gave him about bipolar so he isn't fast enough to catch Ludo the first time he starts to fall after they got together. Those chapters were the strongest ones in the book. The dual point of view worked amazingly well there, as we got to see the events both from Aidan's clear mind and through Ludo's manic - at the time - one.

It was also kind of terrifying to be inside his head during those times. The speed with which he made decisions only to abandon them shortly after for something else was frightening. A phrase in the book about those times will stay with me for a long time:

"It's a lonely place to be. [...] Frightening too, when you realise no one is keeping pace with your racing thoughts."

I know even less than Aidan did, when all this started, about Ludo's condition but I think the author did a really good job spelling out for us what it's like being in Ludo's mind. I liked getting to know him and I liked even more that from now on he's going to have Aidan to spend his life with, accept him and help him when he needs it the most.

A special mention is needed for Bella, Ludo's golden retriever, who had the most adorable way of sleeping. I think she was part of his treatment even if he didn't realise it when he got her. She gave him courage and made him be more careful with himself since he had Bella depending on his well-being. She was a great supporting character.

As I said at the beginning, this story is a slow burn and a very nicely done one. Aidan and Ludo take their time and go at Ludo's pace who is afraid of getting hurt if he lets himself get attached to Aidan and then having to go their separate ways once Aidan inevitably sees him either at his highest or at his lowest and gets scared. Kissing is an important part of their story and I liked how accapting and patient Aidan was and of how much those kisses meant to both of them.

Both characters were amazing. They were real because they had flaws and perfect because they accepted the other as he was and loved him no matter what.

If you like hurt-comfort stories, tight plots and strong characters don't skip this book!

‘Kiss Me Again’ is classic Garrett Leigh - complex characters, gritty yet realistic situations, and an incredibly romantic love story.

The excellent narration by Dan Calley made the book even more enjoyable! This is the first time I’ve listened to an audiobook read by him, and I would definitely do so again.

Aidan and Ludo meet under less-than-desirable circumstances - the hospital, to be exact. From the moment the two men look over at each other, they’re drawn together, no matter the situation they’re in.

Habitually-cranky Aidan softens for Ludo, and Ludo’s mind calms when he’s with Aidan.

While Aidan slowly recovers from his life-changing injuries and Ludo’s mind returns to a semblance of “normal”, their mutual friendship becomes a lifeline.

And slowly, it becomes more. I was all heart eyes while the two fell for each other. This is a book where you can really see the characters on the path to love.

The bubble they live in bursts once Ludo and Aidan are discharged from the hospital. Building a real and solid relationship takes work, and it’s even harder when both men have some major hang-ups or limitations.

Garrett Leigh doesn’t pull any punches here. As always, she portrays disabilities - both mental and physical - in all their harsh realities.

But despite the up-hill battle, Aidan and Ludo keep finding their way back to each other. I loved how the two men did whatever needed to be done to make things work, despite the odds.

And I loved what Ludo and Aidan did for each other. They brought colour and joy to each other where before things had been beige.

But most importantly, the two men support one another. And that might be a really simple thing, but it’s something neither Ludo or Aidan had, and something they desperately needed.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Kiss Me Again’. Aidan and Ludo’s story is sometimes harsh and definitely angsty, but their happy ever after is so worth it!

This is my favorite bipolar-MC MM romance I've come across so far! I loved the large amounts of hurt-comfort that were woven throughout the story and it was great that the author balanced Ludo's mental health issues with Aidan's physical health issues, which allowed the MCs to take turns being the one who needed support and being the one who provided support. I also loved the domestic feel of the story and the slow pace of the romance. That being said, I felt the second half of the story focused too heavily on Ludo and I felt like the author forgot about many of Aidan's issues because most of them are left unresolved.

My favorite section of the story was the hospital part that took up the first third. Once Aidan is conscious enough for conversation, he immediately clicks with Ludo, despite them being complete opposites. Aidan is a grumpy grump while Ludo is sunny sunshine personified but their shared experiences in the hospital and their uncanny ability to get along extremely well means they bond instantly and they become a united team.

That dynamic sets the tone for the rest of the story and I loved that so much! Not only do they get along really well and adore each other but they also enjoy taking care of each other and leaning on each other for support. Every other MM romance featuring a bipolar MC that I've tried suffered from the same issue: the non-bipolar MC didn't have their own issues so they only played the role of support-giver and thus, they were a bland, too perfect character. Having Aidan dealing with his slowly healing leg was a great way to give Ludo the chance to be in the caregiving role and for Aidan to rely on Ludo for support.

The story has a gentle, slow pace to it which perfectly suited these two MCs. They live in a small English town and they discover they're basically neighbors so they start spending time in each other's homes and that continues for the rest of the story. I loved that they both had specific skills that they contributed when they were in their own or each other's homes, such as Aidan helping clear Ludo's garden and planting an herb garden for him while Ludo teaches Aidan how to cook and encourages him to buy more cooking supplies for his own home. It was so beautiful to see how their self-confidence in themselves grew due to the support being given by the other person. Adding in the wonderful Bella (Ludo's dog) and Marcus (Aidan's feral cat) was the icing on the cake.

I also mostly enjoyed the way the author depicted Ludo's bipolar disorder. It was a great decision to have Aidan start the story with no understanding of what bipolar disorder is and having his attempts to educate himself online mostly fail. As a result, . I had some minor issues with it and that leads me to the reasons why I'm not giving this story 5 stars.

I felt Aidan was too perfect. I'd already said that most books featuring bipolar MCs chose to have the non-bipolar MC be too perfect and I loved that Aidan started out having his own issues and his physical struggles continued throughout the story. However, I felt the author incorporated some plot conveniences in order to have Aidan be the Perfect Hero during Ludo's manic episode. The first example of this was how Aidan's cousin just happens to be a crisis manager and thus, he was able to find Ludo's community nurse very quickly. The second plot convenience was Aidan managing to run around on his damaged leg long enough to find and help Ludo. It seemed like the severity of Aidan's leg injury came and went in the story, mostly in accordance with what Ludo needed Aidan to do.

In addition, I felt Aidan's responses to Ludo's bipolar disorder were too perfect. The guy has zero experience dealing with mental health issues and he's certainly not the PC type so I found it unrealistic that he always manages to say and do the exact right thing. The few times he says something a bit blunt or non PC, Ludo conveniently thinks the exact same way about those specific topics. I would have loved to see a bit more conflict between them due to Aidan's lack of experience dealing with Ludo's illness so it was a letdown that Aidan always said and did the right thing.

I also felt that the author kind of forgot about many plotlines related to Aidan by the end of the story. Here are some of the things that were left unresolved or weren't handled properly:

Overall, this was definitely the best bipolar MM romance I've read so far (and I've read quite a few) and I recommend it to people who are looking for a great romance, a wonderful couple and an interesting exploration of bipolar disorder but it did have some shortcomings that I wish had been ironed out.

It was ok. Not bad at all but maybe fell a little short of its potential. It read more like RL than a fictional story with its extreme situations.

I loved that the MCs didn't have any silly misunderstandings. However, most of the plot conflicts seemed too easily resolved. If we could have spent a little more time in each characters' emotional thoughts, especially during the traumatic times, it would have had more impact. The family dynamics could have been more thoroughly explored. I always love the Easter eggs and, wow, would that have been fun to follow up on.

I wanted more from this story but I'm glad I read it. GL always manages to engage my mind as well as my heart in her stories.

PS. Major kudos on that gorgeous cover.

'In an ordinary world filled with ordinary people...a little love can create something...extraordinary...

With 'Kiss Me Again' Garrett Leigh has firmly planted herself on my favorites list. I love stories with characters that aren't perfect...they have weaknesses, flaws, medical conditions...whatever...they're real. They're not outrageously attractive and dynamic with amazingly successful careers or simply loaded with money, etc. etc. in a word they're not perfect, they're just ordinary, everyday people...because that's the kind of characters that I can relate to the easiest...mostly because..."Hello, ordinary, everyday person right here."

In 'Kiss Me Again' we meet Tree Surgeon Aidan Drummond. Aidan's a loner he doesn't want his life complicated by things and people...until an accident lands him in the hospital in a bed directly across from the bed occupied by Ludo Giordano, the most beautiful young man that Aidan's ever seen. Ludo's in the hospital following surgery and to get his meds regulated. Ludo's Bipolar and that means he's not going to get better, his condition isn't going away at the best of times things will be managed.

I had more than a little appreciation for Aidan's struggles and determination to understand what being bipolar meant for Ludo and how it could impact his life...as someone who spent 15+ years working in community healthcare I found this to be dealt with in both an effective and compassionate manner.

From the first time they lay eyes on each other Aidan and Ludo connect. The connection that they share isn't a 'love-at-first-sight' connection. This is about two people who get each other they understand how the other's brain works, what makes them tick, what soothes them, what irritates them...they just get each other it's a bit of an inexplicable thing that just happens. It's like meeting someone for the first time but feeling like you've known them for years. That's how things start for Aidan and Ludo and during their hospital stay the bond that they felt when the first saw each other begins to strengthen.

When Ludo is discharged from hospital without so much as a good-bye to Aidan...Aidan returns to his solitary existence but he doesn't forget the beautiful young man who befriended him during his hospital stay and he knows he never will, he just doesn't know how to find him.

Aidan and Ludo once again come into each other's lives by happenstance and after getting off to a bit of an awkward start Aidan and Ludo begin to spend time together.

Aidan puts up the front of someone who doesn't care, who neither needs nor wants people in his life but Ludo sees past the facade that Aidan shows the world to the kind, gentle and caring soul that hides within. While Aidan sees past the condition that Ludo struggles to control to the beautiful soul within the man.

'Kiss Me Again' is a story about a friendship that found it's way to love. What captured my heart the most about these two men was how they fit, how each of them wanted to care for the other not by changing them but by being able to give them strength when they were weak, by quietly filling their moments of need with strength.

From start to finish I was enchanted with the quiet and simplistic beauty that was Ludo and Aidan's relationship. 'Kiss Me Again' is about the magic of love in an ordinary world between ordinary people to create something extraordinary in their lives.

There can be different kinds of chemistry between two people. Aidan and Ludo had a great connection from the beginning. I was FEELING it. They understood each other, coz they were both messed up in some way. And I loved it. But to me there was no sexual chemistry here, it was a different kind of chemistry. Friendly and romantic yes, but that's it. So when the sex scenes rolled around - not that there was so many - I didn't care for them. I might have preferred them to be off-page. *shrugs* Can't win them all.
And it was good to see that even if some ppl struggle with mental illness, there are ppl without mental illness who can be just as unstable sometimes. I liked to see that contrast. I liked seeing that Ludo was the one with the mental illness, but he showed his strength in caring for Aidan. How Ludo was strong and was there for Aidan when he was at his lowest. And vica versa.

If you've read Soul To Keep, this story follows Ludo, the trauma patient that Marc was treating.

It was nice to see where Ludo ended up, and I really liked the way that the relationship between Ludo and Aidan developed. It was refreshing that they didn't magically cure each other of their personal issues once they got together, instead they learn how to cope and how to get through the difficult times together.

I really like how all of Garrett Leigh's books loosely interconnect but it is adding a load to my TBR because I want to know more about everyone!

This book was wonderful. Garrett Leigh is one of my all time favourite authors and her new novel Kiss Me Again certainly does not disappoint.

Kiss Me Again has pretty much everything you might expect from a Garrett Leigh novel. It’s angsty and makes your heart hurt, but it’s also beautiful and so full of love that I actually wanted to weep a few times. As always with Garrett’s work, I was hooked from the first page and couldn’t put it down. My weakness for hurt/comfort, slow burn romance, tortured souls, and snarky main characters seems to only ever be truly satisfied when I’m reading a Garrett Leigh novel, and this one ticked ALL the boxes. Every single bloody one.

This story hit home for me in a big way. I grew up in a house where bipolar was kind of just our normal. My mum suffered with the disease when I was young (and still does, but over the past few years it has been to a slightly lesser extent) and parts of this story felt so real to me that it actually hurt to read it. Parts of Ludo were EXACTLY my mum. I don’t talk about my Mum’s battles often, but I’m not ashamed of it or of her. She is an amazing woman, much like Ludo was a wonderful and sweet man who was absolutely deserving of love and contentment. The scenes where Ludo spirals and becomes manic and hyper active, where he loses time to his disease and to his own thoughts, where he empties his cupboards and rearranges everything... there were many days where I came home from school to things like that. Garrett Leigh hit the nail on the head sooo many times, she clearly did her research and due diligence to make this story as accurate and as respectful as possible, and boy oh boy did she write a story that packed a punch so hard that I wanted to cry but also NEEDED to keep reading. I needed to see these two men find love and overcome their struggles, and to see them supporting each other in the most beautiful way was WONDERFUL.

Ludo and Aidan were perfect together. At first glance, maybe they didn’t seem like they fit. And their first official meeting made me howl, when Aidan notices Ludo watching him and is all “the fuck you looking at?” I snort laughed because it was soooo Aidan, and Ludo isn’t phased one bit. Soulmates, I’m telling you!

They were actually so right for each other and together they were possibly one of the most real, and most pure romances I’ve read in bloody AGES. I loved how Ludo saw through Aidan’s “I’m an arsehole” bullshit, and I loved how they just worked so well. I loved how affectionate and understanding Aidan was, how he understood Ludo without even having to try. PERFECT.

Now what I need more than anything is a Ludo and Angelo reunion. I want the whole bloody gang (Angelo and Dylan, Joe and Harry, Rhys and Jevon) to meet them and love them and give them the family and the unconditional love they deserve!! But honestly, I’d just settle for Ludo getting to finally see Angelo again, because I know that’s something he needs ❤️

This is a FABULOUS five star read that I wholeheartedly recommend. Garrett Leigh can honestly do no wrong!

Absolutely lovely, what a story! So much emotion.
Both of these guys have heartfelt stories to tell, and watching them build their relationship over the course of the novel is a real experience.

Audio by Dan Calley who does a great job capturing all of the emotion. I love the variety of accents Mr. Calley uses, it really adds to the experience of this audiobook. Nice performance!

Garrett Leigh is back once again with her tortured heroes and a love story that warm your heart. Aidan is a tree surgeon who was hit with an accident. As he lay on the hospital bed, he met a quirky roommate, Ludo. Ludo is bipolar, but not the split personality kind that I read before. Ludo mind can be a chaotic mess, but he can also be so sweet and caring to the grumpy Aidan.

Compare to Garrett's other works, this one is less angsty. Aidan is a grumpy and lonely fellow, but he is always kind to Ludo. Ludo also prefer to be on his own to deal with his condition, but keeping himself away from Aidan prove to be challenging and faith brought them back together again.

I like their relationship which came off as slow burn with both very understanding of each other circumstances. I knew there was going to be a set back on Ludo's condition and I was bracing myself for something bad to happen, however, I'm please that it isn't overly dramatic and was handled pretty well with low amount of angst.

4.5⭐️ Woof, this book hurt. Ludo and Aiden were both so lost and lonely and their slowburn love story was so sweet but also quite melancholy. It was almost a bit too sad for me, to the point I almost DNF’d — Garrett Leigh’s writing is so visceral when it comes to mental illness, addiction, etc. So it can dredge up a lot of emotions if you’ve ever dealt with anything like that.
But I absolutely love how different and original her stories are. These feel like love stories and not formulaic romances.
Definitely will read more.

Ughh, I can’t even right now!! 😒 All the codependence vibes & insta-obsession & flatness & just 🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️
All I’m gonna say right now is there are only two reasons I’m giving this 2 stars, instead of the 1 star I want to : 1. I liked that Aiden wasn’t pushy about sex, & 2. I typically reserve 1 star ratings for books I hate, can’t stand, or that really piss me off, and this one didn’t… I just didn’t really like it…so 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s quite conflicting, I feel my entire rating system is thoroughly screwed this year (not that that is new), because the last couple of books I’ve read I’ve also given high 2 stars, and I liked them better than this book…so 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

** Also, my review doesn’t take into account the steam & sex because I skipped all of those scenes**

Ms. Leigh done wrote a book with such care and sensibility that I can't even. Every moment the MCs shared in the hospital was so tender and so right that I couldn't wait for them to meet outside. Even the whole trajectory of their story fits. Like each of them has to get past their own struggles, develop that trust and then realise what they mean for each other. I loved the writing, especially the part where Ludo's anxiety poured out. It felt so real and I could totally relate to his fears. Anxiety is a bitch and when you spiral out, it's the worst feeling in the world where you don't know how to get out of that loop. Definitely worth your time!

I almost did not give a rating and almost DNFed, maybe I should have. This book was not for me but I can see why it's a win for other people. I did not warm up to the characters, at first I was confusing the two a lot because of the switches in POV. Their voices were not really distinct to me and we did not spend enough time in each character's head (at first) for me to get to know them. Their connection was too "magical" to me, I didn't get it. Their dialogues were weird in the beginning and the way they got each other without words did not ring true to me. I know that I did not get it but others might, hence the 3 star rating, I really feel that this book is good but wasn't for me.

Aidan was struggling physically after an accident and Ludo was struggling mentally for many years. They were both in pain for different reasons but find the comfort from one another with the same motive.
It was a raw and real and beautiful story of hope, of life, and of love.
I really wanted to see the cousins reuniting again. I'm definitely curious about Angelo. So I will definitely read the Skin series. But I'm not sure that they'd communicate with each other in that series as well.

3.5 ⭐'s for me. I liked each character, I thought Ludo was a really good influence on Aidan because he wanted to be a better person for Ludo which in turn made him start taking better care of himself and actually become more out going with his co-workers and more considerate to his cousin Michael.

Ludo was very charming and hilarious, he was always trying to show Aidan what a good person he actually was but Aidan didn't want to buy it. 😂 This book had it's serious parts but also some sweet and amusing ones too.

These two struggled together and learned from it and made each other better. I enjoyed this book!
