Being single is a time of great opportunity; But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. There are moments when we’re tempted to go beyond God’s desires for us, or jump ahead of His timing. During the waiting we may feel like settling, or re-connecting with someone from our past. We deal with things like jealousy, loneliness, and impatience. A single Rose is meant to be read during struggles such as these. The truth is, Jesus wants you to view this time as special, and realize that you are complete in Him. We have a very real God who knows what it’s like to be single because He’s experienced it firsthand. He desires for you to find your all in Him, and to come to Him during the tough times of being single. The advice in this book, written by a single girl, is meant to encourage and help you, but most importantly to deepen your relationship with God. Written in short, devotional like segments, each section discusses a different topic pertaining to being single. A short prayer and a “Reflection” section follow each chapter with suggestions to encourage your growth with God. Some Chapter topics What to do when you’re feeling desperate, trusting God and His timing, breaking barriers that may be hindering your walk with God and your future spouse, and why this season is beautiful and admirable.
I'm always looking for good books on singleness because I am passionate about singles. While this book wasn't awful, it just wasn't anything that made me want to keep reading. The truths Hannah was sharing were good, but she shared nothing of herself in those first few chapters, she just handed out advice. I think there are a lot better resources out there for singles, among my favorites are Kingdom Single: Living Complete and Fully Free and Living Whole Without a Better Half: Biblical Truth for the Single Life
I read this book via an Amazon KINDLE Unlimited download,
Being a child of the 1950s, in 1968 I can remember Harry Nilsson singing his song “One” on the radio. This song came to my mind as I read this book. In the song he states:
One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do Two can be as bad as one It's the loneliest number since the number one
For a young woman, one is indeed a lonely number, especially if she happens to be single. Being single can be both a blessing or a curse, it all depends on the circumstances. Regardless of which one it is, it’s intended to be a special time in a young woman’s life, a time in her life where truly needs the Lord’s guidance in being able to be closer to Him as they walk through His garden.
Being single herself, the author Hannah L.M., knows the lay of the land and give her single “sisters” the advice they need. Single women have difficulties in dealing issues that are confronting them, which is why she has broken her book into 20 different struggles they might be facing and giving them the godly advice, they need in helping them to overcome these issues. What good is getting this advice in a Christian book like this without ending the session with having some sort of prayer connected to it; which is something the author has done and making sure it will reinforce their desire to improve themselves.
For wanting to have her single readers to make the best of what they’ve got while being single.
If you are a single woman, "A Single Rose: Godly Advice for Single Women" is an essential book that you should definitely read. This book provides valuable insights and biblical explanations on why you should cherish this phase of your life. Although waiting for the person God has destined for you might feel overwhelming, this period of waiting can actually strengthen your relationship with Jesus and allow you to focus on self-improvement, ensuring that you are ready when the right time arrives.
I really enjoyed this book! It gave me a refresher of what I knew, and I learned new things. The idea of having a prayer journal just for your future husband is a great idea.
