This is a lovely book. It's sad and scary but also has a fair amount of uplift. And, in places, it's funny. One of my best friends has been going blind for a while and just like Penner's main character, he tries to pretend he can see. I don't want to give away specifics of the things that happen to Penner's character as a result, but they're the kinds of things that seem very strange if you've never faced this kind of disability, but are actually incredibly true and human.
