That's the problem with so many LitRPG books I've read so far. I don't seem to be able to get past the first volume. Once the novelty of the launch concept wears off, it's extremely tedious to grind through... the grinding.
The cheesy romance lines made my eyes roll out of the top of my skull (to keep in line with the cheesiness).

Seriously:

"The woman he loved took an arrow in her thigh..."

"The beautiful blonde woman whom Jack had come to adore nodded and signaled..."

"The woman of Jack’s dreams turned her large golden eyes up toward his..."

I mean, what is this? Days of our lives? Come on!

In short, I got bored of watching someone's playthrough RomPG.

So I stopped.

Life is too short.

Book two

Mistakes: I found only two. However I dislike Alt turning into beast we the reader never meet.
Plot: Tower climbing and town building.
Characters: I like them, but do find the MC's cheesy upbeat save the multi-verse speech over the top. Still bothers me that his apparent death doesn't seem to matter, to anyone.
7/10 Needs a recap at the start of new books.

Great Creativity Continues, But...
The new experience on every level of the tower, combined with having to reclimb every lower level to get to a new higher level everyday could get tedious, but somehow new interesting, sometimes odd situations continue to crop up on every described level.

Jack and Lex's relationship has moved on at a reasonable pace.

Several of the support characters go through major character development and transition. The town starts growing and getting new settlers, by land and by sea.

Thymus the lost wizard joins the team, seems to be effective, but then drops out to retire. And somehow by the end of the book he takes on a new, pivotal role in the town development.

The inkeeper Demi gets a love interest, a new member of the town, Reno. The menu at the inn starts to get varied and creative, as the town grows, the farm grows, and more product and livestock options become available for food.

Haylee gets "chosen" to become a tower-climbing hero, bringing her conflict with her sour-puss, greedy father Sol to a head. This forces him to undergo a transformation and finally start to grow into a decent human (Sol, Soul?). And of course, Haylee does become very powerful very quickly, as predicted by Alt.

Alt continues to scale up madly, in turn making Jack's unique / broken abilities scale up as well. This is a common flaw in LitRPG, the main character always ends up overpowered and very special, breaking all the rules to attain more special things. This book delivers on that in spades.

Lex's father Harrak also gets brow beaten by Jack into finally getting over wallowing in self pity, and starting to contribute to the towns growth.

Jack gains abilities to direct the towns growth including what new buildings arrive, and to assign townspeople to different roles.

Procreation Joint Selection was hilarious.

Demon attacks on the town start to play a bigger role and counterpoint to the in-tower constant encounters.

Standout tower levels included the Mimic level, space elf vampires, and the creepy human crops being eaten by the giant crow (floor boss).

Training up Haylee, having her power level under direction of Jack, and working out combos and synergies with other members of the team was fun.

Watch tower, Alt Jack, Haylee th Dark Prism makes tier two and gains awesome new powers. Wizard's Athenaeum gets built, then Thymus uses it to develop a ritual that energizes the very town's defensive walls with built in lightening towers. The enemies start to become self-aware, negotiating with the party from a postion of strength. Foreshadowing future difficulties.

The second entry in the story of Irrelevant Jack, named after his class.

(which is really irrelevant, since he cheats). This second book is more about interactions, developing the universe, and the romance. The main interesting aspect remains the endlessly varied Floors of the Tower, since each is a completely new dungeon generated at random from a different theme.

Irrelevant Jack remains the ultimate in Nethack-like litrpg.

Great Continuation From Book Two

If you enjoyed the first book in the series then you’ll very much enjoy book two. It continues the adventures of Jack and company right where book one left off with more character and town growth, deepening understanding of the the world setting itself, and good all around fun reading. So if you enjoyed the first book then definitely grab this one and get to reading ASAP! 🙂

Well written with some of the most imaginative dungeons ever

This is a good, satisfying, crunchy litRPG book. It also scratches the itch for those seeking a story that is a bit more "simple" than a lot of the "epic" plots with GoT level intrigue and a clash of nations... Sometimes you just like a good story.

Fun

Book 2 was just as fun as book 1 with a heavier focus on the settlement building.

Blurb at the end tells us that we should see book 3 in December. Looking forward to it.

Such a good read. 8/10

Hadn't seen that this one was coming out this month, so was happy to see it. This series mechanics and premise are great, and I keep getting excited for the next upgrade and/or crazy changes that just affects everything that's come before. I'm wanting to learn everything about this "world" and my mind just keeps jumping to new possible cool new thing that might show up, and yet my mind's been coming up short to what actually happens which I'm loving! The only thing I'm down about is that I have to wait till December for the next one. 8/10

Ramping up!

This instalment picked up right where the first story ended and Jack continues to work with Alt, Lex and the town to stave off Corruption from taking over the universe. It makes you keep wanting more!

Very good read

The author found a unique take on litrpg in book one. Book two grew it with new people and "new" ideas. Cant wait for book three!

The story is fun and go in a good pace, but i dont understand why every single time he points to a charectar he needs to add a descrioption... yes, i know alt is a being of pure energy, yes i know lex is the love of his like, and blond, and pointy in the ears, and he came to adore her, and that the wizard is a coot, and nuty, and that the other girls (all the non lex) are old, fat or too young... i honestly think that if this descriptions was left out, we would have a 1/3 of the book.

Town and Tower adventures

I like the simplified "game" system. What really made the story live for me were the characters. Jack, Lex, Art and the people of the town in this world that may or may not exist beyond the border of the town. A good continuation.

Slow boring dungeon grind

I had hoped for an interesting story. But there really is little plot beyond boring repetitious grinding. Even though the tower changes, it is just a grind.

In the land of the dumb, the slightly less dumb man is king. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed this book, but it is despite a few things.

I think all of the characters are idiots, and Jack is still one even after somewhat maturing compared to the first book. Rather than really evolving as a character, he made some slight improvements that resulted in everyone around him nearly worshipping the ground he walks on. It's a pseudo-character arc I guess.

I also cringe at the writing style. This is definitely more of a YA book to me. There aren't many typos or straight up grammar mistakes, but the writing style is very basic and riddled with stylistic problems. The use of elaborate variations teeters from annoying to painful. The author rightfully tries to avoid word repetition when the subject is the same actor for multiple sentences in a row. Unfortunately, referring to that same actor by different and more elaborate alternatives just draws more attention to how hard the author is trying to avoid the repetition. Lex, Bastion, the blonde bastion, the golden-eyed beauty, the love of my life, etc. The writing style is putting too much pressure on the versions of the same subject for variety rather than using different sentence styles instead.

The 'romance' element is also painfully cringe. Like so brutal that I can't help but look around and hope nobody looks over my shoulder and sees the sentence I'm reading.

The story does have a lot of positives going for it. I still really enjoy the plot setup and the unique levels in the tower. The mechanics of the game are also interesting and help this story stand apart from others in the genre.

So call it a love-hate relationship I have with this series. I want to see where the story goes, but the method the story is being told grates on my nerves. I plan on coming back to the third book, but I desperately need a change of pace.

I still recommend this series to litrpg readers. If you don't have a problem with the things I mentioned above, then this will probably be one of the favorite litrpg series you read this year. If you are like me, well just enjoy this in small doses I guess. It is still a standout in the genre.

My Rating System:
5- Perfect for my taste, could not physically stop reading/listening, wanted more afterword.
4- Almost perfect, could not stop reading/listening, probably wanted more afterword.
3- Enjoyed the book, could see others loving it, need to think if I want more.
2- Can see why others might like the book, but I could not, I do not want more.
1- What is this? What went wrong? Why did they do this? This doesn't make any sense! (No idea who it is for but definitely not for me).

[Audiobook Version]

This is a good series... I think. For some reason, I don't feel as involved with this series as others and I'm not sure why. What makes it more confusing is the fact I know it's a great series and it's full of interesting characters, memorable moments, an amazing narration cast with Jeff Hays and Andrea Parsneau, and even has an engaging story that makes it unique. Again, I think this is a great series but at the same time, I feel like it is missing something vital. I have no idea what it might be, heck, maybe it's just me thinking that something missing when there's not? Who knows. Either way, it's a good series so far I will just keep pushing through.

Nicely done

The MC is still sweet as can be, yet there's enough near death and encroaching darkness to prevent the book from being a fairy tale. The writing is the same quality as the previous book. The editing could use a smidgen of improvement.

The action and key events come fast and furious as they tend to do in this kind of book but it fits this interpretation of dungeon adventure. The other characters grow as people in surprising ways and despite danger and setbacks, the story stays upbeat. The writer does a good job of it.

The background universe is thin and the backstory of the two main characters (space ship AI and accidental hero) is flimsy but they are just robust enough that you aren't challenging the entire narrative every several pages. There were several times when several monsters could have been defeated simultaneously but weren't, either to brighten the tension or because the writer forgot that skill. There are a lot of skills, attributes, etc to track. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Even Better Than The First

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s the characters that make it great; they’re wall unique, memorable, and a joy to learn about.

There is some room for improvement, however. I never really felt any danger (save for one moment), but perhaps I’m thinking about it all wrong. Maybe the tower is not what’s dangerous. It’s the corruption. If that’s the case, I hope it plays a far bigger role in the future. It’s mentioned frequently, but is almost nonexistent.

Another small note: Lex has taken more of a back seat than I would have expected. We learned very little about her in this installment. She was present, but mostly as a love interest. She lost some dimension this time around. Perhaps we could explore the “having a baby” avenue further.

**For the audible version***

This was an absolutely fantastic listen the amount of talent in producing this book is astounding, Jeff Hayes, Andrea Parsneau and Justin Thomas James make this a book a treat for the senses. The simply unique story and progression of this book are phenomenal it's definitely the little things that bring this book to a different level. I love the character progression and individual personalities Prax Venter makes it feel like the characters in this book are based on real people. I can't wait for the next book and to see how the story unfolds. Do yourself a favor and get this book!

Book 1 is great, it gets me excited for the main character and has a unique and interesting world to explore.

Book 2 is not as great. It introduces nothing new, it does not advance the plot, and could actually be skipped with zero confusion. I almost did not move on to book 3. I am glad I did however.

Book 3 is amazing. It advances the plot in new directions, things are moving, our main character actually uses his mind for the first time ever, etc.

I would suggest this is a good series, and when on book 2, push through as the next book is definitely worth it.

Jack and company are growing, new members join and new problems arise. But will he deal with the curve ball he didn't expect, peoples ability to accept change.

An even deeper look into what it means to be alive or even real.

Justin Thomas James does an amazing job once again as narrator and the entire SBT staff flushing out the cast makes for a compelling listen and draws you further into the story. I finished this one and jumped right into book three. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Great read

Another great read with excellent story and character development. I particularly like how the author has them grinding rather than just going up and up all the time. It really is a well worked world and this is well worth getting.

Story is well paced and a page turner as you want to see what happens next. The premise stops the MC being OP via Alt and therefore doesn’t spoil the book.

Enjoy I did 😁

The characters have fleshed out a bit , the story has evolved and Jacks ignorance which used to annoy me has now gone and a leader has arrived to help lead the town into the higher levels. Things have got exciting and so the narration flies along with a lot more ease now with the niggles i had with the first audio gone. I feel like the tale has gotten more of my attention and that the series has a lot more legs to it and im moving onto audio 3 a lot more confident in what i will be enjoying.

The romantic steam hit its peak with a nice fade to black option that isn't overused or overly graphic. There were maybe three to five uses of language in the entire tale.
The story delightfully picks up immediately after where it's predecessor left off and again has an abrupt end. So far it's enjoyable. Wasn't as gross but the story continued to grow while holding interest and a tantalizing amount of humor.
