Through Lynch’s words, embark on a journey of lost innocence, reality bites and how old-fashioned sentiment doesn’t seem to translate – not anymore. This poetry collection features the disappointments we can all share in, including opening your heart only to be shot down, trying and failing, encounters of bigotry and misogyny – not to mention navigating a world in which everyone is hurting in their own way. Pervading this work is the sense that people will always be people, but perhaps punctures are actually what force us to decompress.
Some readers run at Sarah with hugs and kisses, while others shoot daggers at her for killing their favourite character off. Sarah can only apologise and say, "The story made me do it..."
Sarah Michelle Lynch is a former journalist who wrote a trilogy of science fiction novels while on maternity leave. In 2012 she took a deep breath and published the "Ravage Trilogy" which was later re-edited and became the UNITY novels. Sarah is lucky that some readers have been with her since the very beginning and have read all the different books she’s written.
It quickly became clear from reader response that Sarah has a flair for penning erotic scenes and so, Sarah took inspiration from real-life people around her and wrote "A Fine Profession", a compelling and compassionate read. At book signings readers often confess in a whisper that they’ve read this book – Sarah’s first erotic novel – and sometimes, readers have even admitted it’s their personal favourite.
Sarah loves nothing more than to put her feet up with a book and be consumed by a story, so in turn, she endeavours to give you all this and more.
I have read novels by Sarah Michelle Lynch before, along with poems from anthologies that she has edited so I was really looking forward to seeing what she would bring to her debut poetry collection. I wasn't disappointed. Each of these poems brings a slice of life to the table. Often raw, also real, and each one honest (often painfully so) it seems wrong to say that I enjoyed it, but I did. There were so many favourites that I couldn't possibly list them all. However, the ones I felt the most were: Holes, Torn Out, Books, Graduation Day, Say No, Unplug, and Women (with its powerful final stanza). At each step you feel like you're invested in her journey. In every verse you recognise parts of yourself and you can't help but emote. I'm really pleased that I purchased this collection. I've read it twice already, it's that good. I hope there are more to follow.
Punctures by Sarah Michelle Lynch is an inspiring poetry collection that reminds us not to give up, hold our loved ones close, remember that technology is meant to help us, not separate us, and stand true to what we believe in. I recommend Punctures to any reader, as it is a book of poetry for anyone.
What an amazing read with beautiful words on each page. I went through so many emotions while reading this but mostly I read it through my tears. She really has put her heart and soul out there for all to see.
Wow what an emotional read! To put your life in poetry all of it Sarah this is amazing. The one friend reminds me of one of my friends who would battle for me as i would her. Always remember what an amazing mummy, wife, friend and not forgetting person in their own right you are xx😘
The lost art of poetry at its most raw and vulnerable. The words throughout this book are thought-provoking, genuine and sometimes painful. Sarah's heart and soul is bared within these very open poems and leaves a message for all readers to take away with them. I for one have a lot to think on after reading this... life has ups and downs but it can break you or make you stronger if you choose. Sarah is an incredible writer and this collection of honest poems is a must read.
