Holidays are supposed to be happy… But for one family in the beachside town of Calgon, Florida, the holidays turned out to be horrific. Cupcake baker, bed and breakfast owner, and amateur sleuth, Melissa Beckett, is as tenderhearted as can be, and when her dashing hubby, Detective Chas Beckett, brings home news of a brutal triple homicide, which has left a young child orphaned, she dives into the investigation headfirst. Missy’s maternal instincts kick into high gear, and she’s determined that nothing will stop her from finding out the truth behind what happened to the precious child’s family, all the while dealing with guests, parties and responsibilities at her cupcake shop and at the bed and breakfast inn. Loving and supportive friends step in to help, putting themselves at risk, without a second thought. Missy’s life, and the lives of those around her, will be forever changed, no matter what the outcome of the investigation. One of the most emotional, and thought provoking books in the Frosted Love Cozy Mysteries series, this one is not to be missed!
Summer Prescott is well-known in the Cozy Mystery realm, having written and published several Best-Sellers in the genre. An avid reader of Thrillers, Horror and Suspense, the author has decided to follow her passion with the debut of her Thriller, The Quiet Type, which launched in the top 50 of the Serial Killer category on Amazon. The novel has received high praise in its reviews, and Summer is considering a possible trilogy or series to continue the story.
This book is set in the beachside town of Calgon, Florida. Melissa Beckett owns a bakery and a bed and breakfast and her husband is a police detective. The characters are great! When there is a triple murder in town Melissa does some investigating on her own. Is there a serial murderer in town? Who wanted these people dead and why? Excellent story that I definitely enjoyed! The best part is that this book is part of a series so there's more for me to read!! There's also a delicious Blueberry cupcake recipe included. I happily recommend this book!
“Here’s to good friends, good cupcakes, and rising like a phoenix,” she beamed at her beautiful flame-haired friend and the ultimately talented artist, raising her mug. “I don’t know what I’d do without you two.”
This mystery began when Carla looked out her window and saw a toddler walking down the middle of the street holding a ragged teddy bear and a red substance covering her clothing and face. A bit morbid for a cozy, but not horrible or unacceptable. The books can't all involve the victims dying from poison. Sometimes there's blood and sometimes there's a child.
Spencer is definitely a welcome character in the town of Calgon, because he's smart, polite, compassionate, handy, and helpful. Oh ya.. and HOT! Lol. He's very instrumental in assisting Chas with not only protecting Chas' wife and friends, but also in helping solve murder cases. This book in particular showed just how indispensable Spence is to the Calgon Mystery Crew.
Someone killed three people of the same home in a very violent manner and presumably the same person hit every persons home and shop that is connected to the detective Chas. My heart was most broken by the destruction in Kel's art studio. I know how deeply affected Kel was by the action and I knew he'd come up out of it as an even stronger man; well, I'd hoped he would.
Chas and Spencer are on the tail of the killer and Missy along with Kel aren't far behind. Which duo will figure the mystery out first though and what in the world is the burglar searching for anyway? Does all of the destruction have to do with a simple toy? Find out!
I have to admit something about this series to all of you who may read my reviews - I am a dessert maker; it's my passion and my outlet for anytime I am happy, stressed, sad, angry, and any other emotion I feel. Since I started book 1 on September 4th, I've made so many desserts from caramel apple pies, four German apple cakes, apple cobbler, three batches of chocolate chip brownies, homemade cookies and cream ice cream, chocolate chip peanut butter fudge, and a few large dinners in casserole dish style and last night I finally figured out why I've been obsessed with creating all the deliciousness as though I'm baking for a cafe. It's because of all of the cupcake variations and talk of the sugar filled wrappers! The only thing I haven't made is a batch of cupcakes! Haha. People at my job and my family members love when I read books that speak constantly of food, because they're the ones to benefit when I give away the goodies. I really would start charging them for the minimum price of how much the ingredients cost. But anyway...
Trying to bury the pain of losing both her husband and son Carla begins drinking too much and after yet another drunken episode once Carla gets home, she is ashamed and embarrassed and decides that she has to stop and spends the next few days at home cleaning up her act. When she is beginning to feel better, she decides to go get her mail and finds a little girl in a nightgown walking down the street covered in blood, she brings the little girl into her house and calls the police. The police work with the little girl to find her house and things get bad very quickly. So many questions, a very rich and influential suspect and puzzling clues. Add to all that having Carla's and Echo's home being broken into and everything destroyed, Missy shop having the same things done to it but the most heartbreaking one was that whoever was doing this broke into Kel's studio and destroyed all of his art but breaking into Spencer's apartment was the mistake needed to break the case. So many twists and turns, shocking surprises but finally the murderer is captured, and Kel rises from the ashes of the destruction. Great read.
When going out to get her daily newspapers, Carla sees a young girl walking down the street. The girl was holding a teddy bear and her nightgown was covered in blood. Carla took the girl into her house, then called 9-1-1. It turned out that the girl's parents, Melany and Garret Anderson, as well as another lady, Marcia Stanton, had all been shot and killed.
As Detective Chas Beckett is investigating the killings, another crime spree is spreading. Missy's cupcake shop and Kel's art gallery are broken into and everything is trashed and destroyed.
Who killed the Garrets and Marcia? Why were they killed? Who broke into the shop and art gallery? Are the crimes connected? Can Missy and Chas figure out the mystery before there is more damage or killings?
Summer Prescott has another winner on her hands. The story unfolds quickly, but has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. She also has a way of presenting cold-hearted characters that you immediately dislike.
This book definitely strains the line between cozy and non-cozy mysteries. It features some of the things that scream cozy - a character who owns not only an inn but a cupcake shop as well, the small town, a husband who is a police officer, to name a few. But the instigating crime is horrible, and even if it isn't detailed, it still resonates as such. The involvement of a child, and a toddler no less, makes it even more disturbing. In her notes, the author says she edited it in order to tone it down. In my opinion, not enough to sit as a cozy mystery. Still, well written and a page turner, but not cozy, in my opinion.
Peppermint Murder by Summer Prescott is Book 22 in the Frosted Cupcake Cozy Mystery series. Without writing a synopsis and giving away any spoilers, in my opinion, it is a well written, easy to read, action-packed cozy mystery that kept me in suspense from the beginning. The characters were likable and relatable and the plot was full of surprises and twists and turns. I rated it a five.
Start with book one and don't stop till you finish! Love the mystery and crime solve Chas and missy get into trying to find out who killed 3 people and left a small lil girl hiding and scared!
This story line was so far one of my favorites. It drew me in and kept me entertained until the last page. The characters are finally evolving (the ones that live that is). I wish we knew what happened with a certain little one in this book, it felt like a loose end.
One person can create so much havoc. A little girl is traumatized for life. Chaos everywhere because of one person. One person sees themselves in another and says no! One person thinks they're untouchable. One person chooses to rise up through despair.
Usually I purposely pick short stories around this time because life gets so busy, but while the story was good, there were definitely parts I wished were more detailed or longer. Would still, however, read other stories in the series.
This walk down memory lane rereading this series has been so much fun. The storyline is enjoyable and the characters are like family. I can't wait for the next book.
We get to see Clara more in this book, and I’m not sure whether or not she’s going to stay but we did see her trying to move on past her husband’s and son’s deaths.
The murder was a little intense, especially with the little girl who we meet at the beginning of the book. Clara’s reaction was perfect to that little girl, she also seemed to be very motherly towards her. I enjoyed the way that Spencer was used in this book in this murder investigation.
this Frosted Love cozy mystery really shakes Calgon up. Carla has started to pull herself together after her long binge of drinking and bad behaviour when disaster strikes her own neighborhood. So much for a good start. her neighbors are brutally murder and she finds their now orphaned child covered in blood at her mailbox. The gang once again pools together their talents and saves the day before anything else can happen but not before things get rearranged, literally. This installment will leave a mark for each of them to remember for a while. we also get to see more of the Calgon regulars which is always good. Christmas is coming and Calgon is getting ready to celebrate which is where this books leaves us waiting to read more.
Missy has created the perfect Christmas cupcake but not all is merry and bright. Multiple murders have rocked the tiny coastal town of Calgon to it's core and has involved the entire gang, including Carla. I love that Missy's group of close knit friends jump right in with offers to help with both the investigation and the cupcake shop. I especially love Spenser because, even though he is complicated, he's extremely loyal to Missy and Chas and he's always there to protect them. This is a truly delightful addition to a wonderful, cozy series.
Chas and Missy along with their extended family of friends make this cozy series entertaining and endearing. Although Chas is an actual police detective he never turns down help from his wife or their friends. And Missy and their friends always come through! Entertaining and heartwarming, a can't miss addition to this series.
If a reader does not truly feel the gut wretching pain of this story, they would be lacking of compassion!
Peppermint Murder, brought me to tears, with the uncovering of the art work "Phoenix" .. I have read all stories in the series this far, I will complete the series and I will continue to follow Summer Prescott's Cozy Mysteries!
I just love this series. The mystery and suspense is wonderful. It also has all the family and friends with laughter and love to make a Great read. Can't wait for the next book.
summer Prescott is an author whose skills increase as her writng career ltngthensrows
ms Prescott has written an excellent book in Peppermint Murder. It is a truly contemporar y cozy mystery! The beginning e Really hooked me and she made fine use of imagery
Once again a " leave life behind and escape " great read. Nothing overly serious but more than enough to hold your attention. Love the characters but will be glad when the feud between Carla and Echo ends. Ready for the next adventure.
This was by far my favorite book out of the entire collection! The author seriously outdone herself on this one and will send you on a wild goose chase trying to figure out what happened and who did it!
When adversity arrives, the well developed characters, who are friends, come together and support each other. This book has a good storyline with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting.
I can't put into words how much I love this series. I was torn between two suspects but some of the pieces just didn't fit. It was also nice to see a different side to Carla.
I wish the author would give the readers more clues to help us solve the mystery. I felt too many details were left out until the last reveal. However, the story itself was well fleshed-out, and I enjoyed visiting with its characters once again.
This was really good. The poor little girl who watched her parents and their friend get murdered! The mystery was good and I especially liked that Carla is beginning to get her head on straight.
