Into The Deep

Rate this book
The Ocean hides many secrets, and my family has uncovered one of them. My name is Coralee Eldimire and I was dragged into the secrets my family has been keeping from me. The Eldimire Aquarium and Animal Sanctuary, was more than that. It was a testing site. A testing site for shifters. The place I thought was made by hard work and passion was actually made by torture and the deaths of creatures I never knew existed. I found this out the hard way that these shifters are more than they seem. They aren’t mindless or monsters...they were something more. The shark shifters that I had gotten to know only want one freedom and I was their way out. Though it seemed they wanted me for more than an escape route. These shifters wanted to keep me, and I was starting to have a hard time saying no. With my family trying to keep the shifters or kill them, I have my work cut out for me...and I may learn to be a stronger person on the way.

Coralee Eldimire doesn't realize the significance of her last name. She doesn't know what her family is up to. As far as she knows they own an aquarium and rescue sea animals. She's helping out over the summer with routine paperwork but has plans to go to school in the fall. However, her family has secrets and plans involving Cora. Her family hunts. They capture ocean shifters and run tests on them. Now that Cora knows, she has to decide which side she's on.

I like the idea of aquatic shifters, sharks, seals, etc. I like the idea of a hidden island and protectors. And I like the idea of generational hunting families. However, it took too long to set up the action in this book. This felt like a prequel found in an anthology to grab your attention before the full book release. Because of the setup, there was little character development or relationship development possible for three of the guys. There were also a couple of plot issues. Cora's mother was so unlikable it made it impossible to see how Cora would be conflicted between her family and the shifters. She should have grabbed her brother and taken off. More problematic was the delayed escape. Why did it take the entire book and result in a cliffhanger? Cora worked late by herself each night. Why not simply leave? If she wasn't prepared to leave, what kept the shifters from walking out after the staff left each night? I was left frustrated with the lack of development. This book should have been condensed into the first three chapters and combined with the next book to create a full story. That would have allowed for the reader to get to know the guys, see the relationships begin to develop, find out Ralph's loyalties, discover the mystery of her friend's boyfriend, escape and continue on with the story. It would have been much more satisfying.

Kind of a let down

So the best thing about this book is that amazing cover. Unfortunately the book was just okay. I think I'd built it up way too much in my head seeing as I've been waiting over a year now for it basically stalking the author asking for it's release. I love sharks and was really excited about this I just wish that extra year had of produced a more polished result.

The were several inconsistencies names differing either in spelling or person from sentence to sentence, things happening like the shifters suddenly finding clothes to put on that's not explained, or even why they can't walk their happy tails out on day one.... I just never really understood why they had to wait and have this slap happy plan nothing really seemed super thought out.

Now this book cost 3.99 and isn't on KU, and took an extra year to release. I'm saying this because it matters and is why I didn't bump it up to like 3 since I didn't mind the story even with the simplicity and errors. Books should be edited yes, but am I more likely to be forgiving about a few/several errors here and there if the book is in KU? Yeah I am and I think a lot of readers feel that way.

Also terrible cliff hanger. This isn't reflected in my rating just a heads up to anyone else since this book took awhile to release and I haven't seen the author mention book 2 at all really (I honestly thought it was a standalone)

I really enjoyed this story, excellent premise very well written. I liked Cora with her courage and heart. I liked the fact that the shifters are different from the usual wolves or bears and that world is a little different than a lot of the other stories. I even had a little sympathy with her mother but that was soon displaced. I also enjoyed the stories pacing and that it built the tension to its climax. My only complaint is that the book ends with a cliff-hanger and I really want to know what happens next, there are a lot of threads still to be tied up Who are the hunters? what will her brother do? will they reach the island and find sanctuary? Will she meet her father again? The narration is excellent and easy to listen to. I Received a complimentary copy of the audiobook from the narrator and am leaving a honest voluntary review

i received a promotional code for the audible version in exchange for a review, which i'm so appreciative of every time these are offered.
i was curious, as i've listened to lots of oddball shift stories and am particular about reverse harems. this didn't quite hit the mark for me. slow moving, rambling plot, stereotypical villains, and the FMC was painfully dull. it was a really abrupt cliffhanger, too, with no sexy time payoff at any point during the story. i found the writing needed quite a bit of editing. Weary instead of wary, and a lot of other grammatical errors the narrator couldn't correct, plus the dialogue was stilted "i am, i will, etc," instead of natural language contractions of "I'm, I'll..."
lots of potential, and i'm not sure i'd bother looking for the next part (although i don't think there is one?). beautiful cover.

I was given this audiobook by the author for an honest review
Coralee was working in her family business, in the local aquarium. Her mom was a scientist and working on different species of marine life. Her brother helped and Cora was mostly in charge of filing papers and small task to help her mom. But little did Cora know that behind the walls where she worked was a huge family secret that she didn’t know about, that there were shark coming into the aquarium and Cora was terrified of sharks, but that wasn’t all she didn’t know, those sharks where actually shifters. So will Cora ever find out that secret her family is keeping from her or will she be forever in the depths of their secrets. So this was my first shark shifters book and it didn’t disappoint it was soooo good 4 sexy shark shifters how much better can that get.

*Spoiler Alert*
Coralee aka Cora (FMC) is caught up in the middle of something she doesnt understand when she starts working at the families aquarium and animal sanctuary. With a shark phobia it doenst help when she meets 4 shark shifters - Wes, Fraser, Lir and Maris in the course of this book. The sexual tension between her and the guys pretty much steamed up my kindle! Secrets and lies are part of this book too. Yes that ups the tension throughout this book with Cora not knowing who to trust and believe. With that ending im not surprised. Blimey that was knockout! Such a brilliant read and i cant wait for the next book

Into the Deep is wonderfully written and engaging with creative characters and imaginative world-building. The main character, Coralee (Cora), is absolutely remarkable, courageous, and compassionate. She finds herself in a situation where she has little to no knowledge of and less comprehension. Dark secrets are unraveled, and the truth is more extraordinary and cruel than imagined. The supernatural elements are fascinating, and the story totally grabs the attention.

Excellent narration by Krys Janae. She emulated the characters and their emotions very nicely, literally breathing life into them. All in all, Into the Deep, is a gripping tale, one I genuinely enjoyed.

This is my first read by Aspen Winters and my first shark shifters. That being said - I'm hooked. The characters were multifaceted and solid. They felt real and the dynamics between them were brilliantly written. I hate Neil with a passion, and wish I had an adorable brother like Ralph. Aspen Winters also perfectly wrote the intimate moments to induce a quick full body heat flash before melting you with a sweet detail. I could read 20 more books with these characters! Absolutely, brilliantly done! 5/5 highly recommend.

Well that is the first book I have read about shark shifters and I have to say I really enjoyed and it was freshly different.

Four hot shark shifters and Cora who works for her family at a animal rescue centre for sea creatures but actually how much does Cora really know about what her family really does at the centre.

The cliffhanger at the end what I can’t wait for the next book to found out what happen next loved it.

This story blew me away. Not only is it a shark shifter but a lot of hit shark shifters. Cora's world is about to blow up. Her family are not who she thinks they are. The world isn't what she thinks it is
She's not even who she believes she is. What's a girl to do? Your gonna have to grab your copy to find out. I love this story and everything about it. The characters are amazing. I cant wait to get more of this story.

As soon as I started this book I was hooked, the premise was refreshingly different, and engaged my attention completely, I really liked Cora and felt for her and her brother who struggled with their overbearing mother, and the dark world of hunters. I can't wait to find out what's next for Krys, and the shifters, this was a fantastic start to the series. Krys's expressive voice really brought the characters to life for me. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

I swore I’d never leave a one star review, but I’ve now read multiple books by this author and they all had the same problem…they weren’t finished. I appreciate a good cliffhanger, but this one had just gotten to the plot moving forward and just—stopped. No resolution. No happy for now. No my even a small plot point resolved. I found it very frustrating and very disheartening, as it is sold as a complete book, but it feels like part 1 of book 1 instead. Very disappointing.

Good but

I like the premise of this story so that gives it 2 stars. However, editing is such an important thing that a lot of indi authors look over these days. Not just grammatical editing but content and flow as well. This book could be really good if a good round of content editing were done. To me it just didn't flow well and there were things about the story that didn't make sense.

Ok shark shifters? Thank god finally for shifter fans this is a bonus to have one of the animals species finally covered! I really enjoyed the book and really hoping we get more as I can find much info on her coming books! Fingers crossed she will write more following this lead! I’d be quite disappointed if she didn’t!

Dunno. The idea is fine, but the execution needs polish. When one character is called Maris/Marik/Marius you think proof reading would help. Then someone gives a little wine. Should that be "whine" or are they a grape? Don't get me started on the dreaded "alot" or the incessant "humming"

The story has promise and I will look for the next in the series, but please; get someone to check it over

Good start, confusing finish

Interesting premise, however as a whole the book seems bafflingly unfinished to the point I initially assumed it cut off accidentally. Oceanic shifters is different, but the cliffhanger was so confusingly written it feels like it just got choppped off

This was an interesting story. Another new author who developed some great characters. I am only giving 4 stars though because I hated the ending. It left to many unanswered questions. Anyway Coralie works at an aquarium to help out her family. She believes that her mother is helping se creatures but after she realizes there are 3 shark shape shifters at the facility she learns her mother is not trying to help them but harm them. She helps them hatch a plan to escape & then learns that her mother has picked out a husband for her & is arranging her marriage. This does not sit well with her. A great read & I enjoyed the story but wish the ending was different.
