Anyway, he's a businessman and he's shutting down her coffee shop for 6 weeks, so he proposes she becomes his mistress while the construction is underway.

"wash your hair or take care of any 'headaches' before I get home every night, because I don't want to hear any excuses." Okay, who still uses the washing the hair excuse? 🤣

Overall, good, but meh with the reason he left her at the alter and meh with his horrible mother and how she got into Eryn head.

If you have by any chance read some of my other reviews you will know I have some pet peeves. One of them are the exes who add nothing to the story. When a book is 11 chapters and 196 pages long, I don't want to keep hearing about the other people one of the main characters has slept with. Not until chapter 8 anyway. Up to that point, I was thinking that if didn't get a line about how Eryn slept with other people the book would burst into flames or something. I don't understand why we had to read about her sleeping with one of his frat brothers 2 weeks after his grandpa died. Does it add to the story? No. In the prologue/chapter 1, Eryn drunkenly admits to her sisters (and West overhears) that she did the deed with other people, but they didn't satisfy her and that West ruined her for other men. We could have left it at that, but noooo, we had to bring it up in every single chapter. That led me to the decision to give 3 stars to the book. So why the lower rating? The final nail in the coffin came when Eryn had to trust West and she didn't. She ran away and we had to have a third (and a fourth, I might add) person brought her to her senses. Then she dropped the "I trust you line" and I was out. No lady, you didn' trust him and you didn't bother to give him the benefit of the doubt. After that, I completely understood why West ghosted her 3 years ago. She would have reacted even worse. I don't see how Eryn changed in the last three years. And that's why I was so bothered by all the ex mentions. They filled space that could have been used to help West and Eryn become better people and a couple. West matured somewhere from the time he called off the wedding until he saw Eryn again at least. In the end, all I feel is frustration. And the worst thing is that the ending felt rushed to me. I had high hopes for the book since I am a Shayla Black fan, but I was disappointed in the end.

Typical Black Romance

Three years ago, Weston left Eyre at the alter, literally, and is now back in her life, and not in a good way. He now owns Eyre’s building which must close for required renovations. Guess what, for the price of paying her bills while her business is closed, West wants her to be his mistress because “he still loves her.” That’s the jest of the story. So if you like weak woman like that you will love this story.

Problems:
1. It’s all about the sex, over and over again. Eyre might “hate” West for his callous treatment of her but, boy, does she want the sex.
2. Every way possible to embarrass Eyre is in this book, even from her own sisters.
3. Eyre is just too stupid to realize that West loved her all along. It wasn’t his fault he broke her heart.
4. Another female too dumb to know her own feelings. She just needs a man to tell her what to feel.
5. Another “do this my way or you have nothing” story.
6. “I might love you but I always get what I want, my way” male.

Surely a romance author as experienced as Miss Black can create a better story line.

One of my favorite books of the series! Considering that I know I enjoy Shayla Black's books in general AND that her other contribution to this series (Misadventures of a Backup Bride) got a five star rating from me, I'm actually surprised at how surprised I was to love Misadventures With My Ex. From the way that we meet West and Eryn, to the way that their past is revealed and their current situations grows - it was just great storytelling. I didn't want to put the book down! I even wanted to get the audiobook so I could go full immersion on it, but alas it is not yet available. The emotions were so real; I could feel Eryn's pain and West's remorse, as well as his determination to get his girl back. I loved Eryn's sisters (I'm wondering if they have their own books?) and the tension with West and his mom and uncle. When I saw that the book is under 200 pages, I was like "cool, I can breeze through this easily," but I was sad when it ended (even though everything was very happily resolved). I want more! The steamy bits are intense and fraught with emotion and oh so satisfying. My crack is a book where the hero is single-minded in winning the girl. MA With My Ex is the best version of that - West is a man that knows he screwed up and lost the best thing he ever had and is willing to fight tooth and nail to get her back and I am all in for it! 5 out of 5 wine glasses.

This book is so good I just reread it in one day.

First I love Shayla Black not only is her writing great but she is a beautiful person. Team Wild gave us back up bride. Then Shayla mentioned that this book had characters from Misadventures of a Backup bride. I knew automatically I had to read this one asap.

Wow what a story. Poor West he had to give up the woman he loved for his family. Now he noticed he can't be happy without. Eryn has been unhappy for 3 years. Since the day she was supposed to marry West.

This is a second chance love story and it's so good.

I love second chance romance stories and this one was right up my alley. Eryn and Weston were a couple but when Weston suddenly leaves her, her life goes out of control. Now 3 years later, he knows he made a huge mistake and wants to win her love back. I couldn't put this book down and kept reading late into the night! Wonderful, wonderful story!

I didn't like it

I didn't like this over the top second chance at love drama. When we find out the reason the were torn apart it seemed pretty thin to me. And Eryn's insecurities are just so eye-rolling annoying.

What's better than a new Shayla Black book? One that is part of the Misadventures series, that's what. This series is so much fun, if you haven't read any of the books yet no worries you can start right here. Each book is a standalone, novella sized romance that takes you on a journey of a Misadventure. Here we have one with an EX so if the Second-Chance-at-Love is a favorite trope of yours your in luck.

Eryn and West have a complicated past, one more complicated than even Eryn knows. West broke off their engagement the morning of their wedding and hasn't spoken to Eryn since. To say she was devastated would be putting it mildly, it's been three years and not only has Eryn not moved on but it doesn't look like it will be happening anytime in the near future either.

Okay it has to be said that if you walk out on your bride on the day of your wedding you better have a damn good explanation and not just cold feet. This maybe a novella but I have to tell you I did not feel as if the story was rushed at all, we get the full explanation as to why things happened the way they did and what happened in the three years since. The chemistry between West and Eryn was amazing.....three years of missing one another added a WHOLE NEW LEVEL of heat to their flame.

This was a fun sexy quick read that can be enjoyed in just one afternoon. If you have read Misadventures of a Backup Bride you will remember Carson and Ella, Ella is Eryn's sister and they both make an appearance in this book, if you haven't no worries this is a standalone. This is an easy book to recommend for all lovers of contemporary romance that enjoy a good story with some heat. Happy Reading!!!

She thought he adored her and Eryn Hope fell fast and incurably for Weston Quaid, until he day be walked on their wedding day and readers can’t help but become caught up in West’s determination to win her back in this emotionally gripping misadventure romance. The characters are strong and real which makes it easy for readers to relate to them and the chemistry between West and Eryn is sexy and sizzles with lots of heat. Eryn is determined to protect her heart no matter how undeniable the attraction feels, so much of the story is an emotional roller coaster as she struggles not to give in to West’s seduction and the hero is a dominate male that will use whatever he has to get Eryn back into his life. The relationship is further complicated by some less than desirable family members which adds to the drama and suspense of this couple’s happily ever after.

The story is set at a steady pace and the hero is a wealthy CEO who’s willing to bargain in order to get the upper hand when it comes to matters of the heart, which is scandalously sexy. The story is quite emotional but there is also some snarky dialogue and chuckle worthy moments peppered throughout the story and with every turn of the page readers find themselves pleased more and more with all the chemistry and romance of Eryn and Hope’s road to happily ever after with every turn of the page.

On paper? Right up my alley. BUT..................in reality, angst was very superficial and, good grief, there was so much sex that if those scenes had been deleted this would have been about 75 pages long. Where's all the angsty, cheaty goodness that gives readers the chills? The feels? The anger? The loneliness? And then finanally, the redemption? Oh well, at least I borrowed from a friend.

Writing is decent, hence the 2.5 rating.

Eryn Hope was left a shattered woman by Weston Quaid after he left her at the altar. Fast forward three years and everything is about to change and not necessarily for the better. Ms.Black had me from the first chapter, hook line and sinker; I really could not put this one down.
Thanks to his family West was forced to walk away from the women he loved and now it seems that fate is about to play another game of chance with their lives.
This is a second chance at love story with a twist. I really enjoy Shayla Black’s writing style and although there were times that I was frustrated, all in all I enjoyed this book. There was passion, love, angst, betrayal and forgiveness woven into the story line and I was anxious to see how it would all play out.
Despite the years and the hurts of the past, passion and attraction still burns bright between West and Eryn, so much so that she contemplates giving him another chance. Can West and Eryn rebuild the love and trust they had or has it been shattered beyond repair?

I received an ARC in return for an honest review. I honestly thought I was going to hate this one. Being we weren’t getting flashbacks I didn’t think I was going to be able to connect with them. I was wrong! I totally felt their heartbreak. I loved West and Eryn together. Although, I was annoyed how Eryn believed his mother after what he told her. I understand the doubting but he told you she was going to try to break you up. She should have given him the benefit of the doubt and talked to him. He told you why he left the first time. The connection you two had, how could you not think something happened to make him walk away. These two situations were different so I thought she should have put her doubt aside. Besides that, I really enjoyed this book!

Three year wait...

Eryn Hope and Weston Quaid
Eryn and West were set to be married. But Eryn found herself, jilted at the alter. West put his families business ahead of what should have been the happiest day of their lives. Eryn, never fully recovered from the devastation of that day.
Three years later, on the very day that should be their anniversary, he shows up, as the new owner of the building where her diner is located. West has good news, and bad news for Eryn...
This Misadventure made me smile, laugh out loud, tear up and get mad as a wet hen.
Shayla Black, did a superb job, as always, and I cannot give this book anything less than the maximum 5 stars limit, it was that good.

Fast paced, quick read, the only warning for this book is be careful where you read it cause the hot sex scenes may make you blush and squirm!
So no to the airport, or airplanes!
Perfect for the beach or bedtime!
That said, if you’re looking for an easy, predictable second chance romance this it. Well written, my only issue with second chance romances is that sometimes there shouldn’t be one!
After what happened between Eryn and Wes, I’m not sure a second chance romance is what I’d be after...maybe a murder mystery?

Once again, Ms. Shayla Black flaws me. Takes my breath away and throws me into a plot that I just could not get enough of.

Misadventures with My Ex was a fun, easy going kind of read, one that I could have easily finished in one sitting, but knowing there is an end to a book that I've fallen hard for, I always try and pre-long the ending.. It's both torture, yet rewarding. I put it down, telling myself I would at least let this read stretch out for a week.. FAIL.. within a few hours I had picked it back up and ended up sitting up way past midnight reading the end. It's the kind of book that will have you addicted within the first chapter, but thats what Shayla Blacks books do to me.

This book focuses on Weston and Eryn, and their second chance romance.

Eryn - hard at luck in her love life, was left at the alter by the love of her life. Someone she thought she knew better, someone she thought would never hurt her the way he did.

West - lives with one regret, and that is leaving the love of his life at the alter for his family, things that he could not handle, or control but he had no choice but to leave her behind. But it's not been that simple.

West needs to talk with Eryn about her new business and having unfinished business between them and the way he left her, he knows this isn't going to be easy. Once they reunite, the sparks fly, just like they did when these two were first together, the sexual tension and chemistry is still there and if anything, its heighten. Unable to stay away from each other, they find themselves tangled up in each other all over again. But is this time going to be like the last? Are they able repair the damage? Will Eryn trust him again? Will hearts be broken?

This read was fantastic. Even though it was light and fun, it still managed to pack the heat perfectly. Characters were written perfectly and this book just sucked me in! I've always been a sucker for a second chance romance and Ms. Black certainly knows how to write them.

I have to prepare myself for the rant I'm about to unleash on this poor excuse of a story....deep breath....it sucked. That's honestly the only way I can sum this book up. Within the first few chapters, I could tell this book wasn't going to be a winner, but I saw how few chapters there were and I decided to try and finish out the book. Give it a real chance. Unfortunately, a few chapters later, I had to give up once I realized this book was a waste of reading time.

First things first: even the premise sounded a little bit sketchy, but I was willing to give it a try. Exes hooking up is a common trope, but this was the first time I'd seen the Hero hire his ex as his mistress.....and yes it was as bad as it sounds. The main characters may have jokingly made comments about how the H was hiring her as a hooker, but that's exactly what it was! He was funding her business in exchange for her being his sex slave.

Speaking of sex, any of the R rated scenes played out like a sad attempt at BDSM. The H was trying to be controlling, but it came off asshole-esque instead of sexy. Within the first few chapters, I was skimming through the sex scenes (which makes it surprising that I didn't finish the book quickly, since that's what more than half of those chapters were).

The whole plot just played out in the most aggravating way possible. The h had no spine and the H was way too obsessed with getting her back. After abandoning her on their wedding day and then not speaking for 3 years, the main character thinks its okay to just waltz back in and say he's been in love with her this whole time and that its always been her (but of course he slept with other girls in those three years, which makes me wonder how much of "the one" she really could be). I never made it to his explanation of why he left her at the alter, but after reading reviews, I don't think I missed anything. Just more spineless main characters with an inability to communicate and actually trust their significant other.

I'm sure Shayla Black is a great author, and I may try some of her books later on, but after this introduction to her writing, it might be a while.

I didn’t know what to expect when I started this one but what I got was the most delectable slice of chocolate cake. I adore second chance romances and this one checked all the boxes.

Eryn and West were supposed to get married three years ago, only West left her hanging and moved to New York. So much water under the bridge leads to all that lovely tension and salacious behaviours I have come to relish from this author. Through an underhanded business deal they end up spending time together and Eryn fights with all her might not to regain the feelings she once had.

‘It’s too late to question the wisdom of this decision. I lift onto my tiptoes and press our lips together.
I’m kissing Weston Quaid again.
It’s hesitant at first. Then, suddenly, it’s a wildfire. Feeling his mouth on mine is heaven, homecoming, perfection. It’s like every memory of our passion that’s haunted my dreams. His scent fills the air with the olfactory equivalent of crack. His touch almost makes me weep.’

As is usual for this author, the under the sheet action scenes are intense and super sensual. With this book being told by both Eryn and West, the scenes are set and laid out in a way that enforces the intensity and heat. The secondary characters were just as well padded as both Eryn and West. I found myself laughing at the total disconnect between Echo and Hayes. I wonder if we’ll ever get their story, I sure hope so.

Throughout all the ups and downs, there is the constant of family with Eryn. Even though they know better than her; what’s allegedly going to happen, they keep her feet firmly on the ground and are always there for support. Thank you Ms. Black for once again filling my head with wonders and making me lose the real world for just a little while.

What do you do when you are about to marry the man of your dreams but he walks away, literally on your wedding day? You don't hear from him for three years and then he shows up at your door. What could he possible want? Do you listen or push him away?
I love a second chance romance but I wanted to shake Eryn a few times because she was so wishy washy. She knew what she wanted and what she knew to be true but instead of asking questions to get the answers she needed, she would run and hide and let the problems fester. When all she needed to do was talk to West and tell him what she was feeling and what she feared. Then they could work them out together or walk away.
West needed to win Eryn back or his life would be plain, Eryn was the only person that made it special. So he had to make her listen to why he left her the way he did. And he needs to keep his mother away from Eryn.
Will Eryn give West the chance to explain and be able to forget him? Will his mother come between them before they can work things out? Will they finally get the happily ever after?
I loved this story to a point but some parts I wanted to skip over but I didn't. Eryn's internal fears and trust issues were her main problem that had her second guessing almost everything. And that is why I kept reading to see how it would end and in the end it was great.
I love Shayla Black and her writing style and I love the Misadventure series too. So if you are looking for a second chance story or another Misadventure story, then you get both here, just don't give up on Eryn and West. I hope you enjoy it as much and I did.

This was not a romance, this was gaslighting.

West left Eryn years ago without explanation but he loves her still, even though he's slept with other women since he left her on their wedding day. So West's plan is to offer to pay her to be his mistress for six weeks in exchange for paying for her shop's rent and employees' salaries. Gee, Eryn tells him, this feels a lot like I'm a whore. Oh no, this isn't, West helpfully clarifies, because this sexual bargain is really about saving your business and is totally ok since we still have mighty pants feelings for each other. Sounds about right, agrees Eryn.

Bargain struck and now this is some kind of bad Fifty Shades of Gray spinoff. There's a contract that mandates Eryn has to always be naked in West's apartment, always ready for him sexually, and always free of pubic hair because he remembers that's how he liked it years ago. And this is West's grand scheme to win back Eryn? I'm more afraid of how Shayla Black will win me back as a fan.

So I was a little skeptical to read this misadventure, because personally I don't want any with an EX lol. So I gave it a chance and dived in. This story was great!

Eryn being left on her wedding day 3 years ago by West Quaid has ruined her towards relationships and men because she still feels for him. 3 years later as always on there suppose wedding date she puts on her dress and gets drunk, but that one day everything changes. Weston walks into her apartment and over hears all her confessions from her room, her not knowing he's there talking to his sister.
Weston Quaid famously known CEO is going after the love of his life Eryn the women he left 3 years ago. He wants to patch things up, what better way then to create a contract by helping her out with her business.

Why I gave it 5 stars, is that The Sex scenes were awesome.Love how Eryn was controlling at first trying to out smart West but he had that last draw, loved his character.

Love Conquers All ... A Story of Regrets, Reaffirmation & Redemption

If you loved Ella's story in Misadventures of a Backup Bride, then you are sure to be enthralled by her sister Eryn's story. This book is so beyond sensational that I want to tell you in detail everything single thing that will have you turning the pages so fast you'll get a paper cut from your paperback or a hand cramp from your eReader. However, I don't want to ruin the awesomeness that is Misadventures with My Ex for you so I'll just say be prepared for subterfuge, clever manipulation, second chances, and a love conquers all story that only the mind of Shayla Black could imagine and create. West and Eryn's story will have you engaged from start to finish with well written dialogue, sizziling, sexy scenes and a love story that will have you swooning!

I didn’t enjoy the concept of this story at all. As you know, I love the misadventures books but this one made me angry and annoyed at the male character, West.

These stars are mainly for the writing style itself and once the mistress rubbish was over, I really started to enjoy it. Though I found Eryn to be a bit OTT and dramatic. She was more like a teenager than an adult and her attitude at times irritated me and made me roll my eyes. I did really love the ending though.

This authors writing style is incredibly hypnotising and I was riveted to my seat even though I didn’t enjoy the story so much.

This story was, to put it plainly, SO GOOD! Sexy and sizzling with tons of feels and a romance that makes you believe in second chances, I DEVOURED every word in this book.

Shayla Black has always been a must read for me. But this book made my pulse jump and my heart swoon and my panties damp. I loved the characters and how the story flowed and played out. it was original and fun and super HOT. It was everything I was hoping for and more.

Eryn Hope was in love with Weston Quaid. They came from two different worlds but their live was strong, or so Eryn thought. Weston skipped out on their wedding day with no explanation. She moved on … somewhat. Eryn opened her own business, a coffee shop that was successful, but her love life was not. Three years later West shows up to tell her that he owns the building her shop is located in and they must shut down for a period of time to make structural changes. Eryn is worried about her workers’ jobs as well as her debt. West makes her a deal, he will pay off her bills including her employees’ salaries if she becomes his mistress while they fix the building. Eryn is hesitant at first, but then finally gives in and goes with West. Now his plans begin.
This was another hit by Shayla Black. West never fell out of love with Eryn but he had to go back home and take care of the family business. Now he had a chance to try to win her back. Eryn soon finds out why West had to leave and soon realizes that she never fell out of love with him either. As the past tries to return to create a problem between Eryn and West, they work together to solve it.I enjoyed the chemistry between these two characters. This was a great second chance romance.

second chances are my favourite and this one was even sweeter as not only Weston left Eryn at the altar, but now, three years later, he is back and will do anything to get her back.
I admit I was a bit skeptic..he left her at the altar, I would have buried him lol..
I love Eryn tho..she is not a pushover, and while she still has feelings for him, she doesn't just roll over and do his bidding..she gives as good as she gets.
Entertaining, some drama, crazy hot!
