Goddess Academy #2

Waking the Goddess

Rate this book
The Sanctuary is a death trap.

No surprise there, considering the goddesses are crazy.

My family’s past is haunting me, and there’s a large mystery to solve in the school.

Girls are continuing to die, and the authorities refuse to give the students any explanations. My relationships with half of the guys on my team aren’t going well either. Also, I'm failing my classes because the school doesn't recognize how awesome I am, and that makes me at risk of being added to the pile of dead bodies.

It doesn't help that my violent tendencies are coming out.

At least Liam and his new pup are getting along well.

And there's plenty of cake to be had.

WAKING THE GODDESS is the second book in the GODDESS ACADEMY paranormal series. It contains steamy scenes.

After what Cara and her vassals found in the morgue she finds herself trying to cope and find away to keep other girls from dying. All while she is trying to do better in her classes and get closer to her vassals. When one of the vassals start acting out of character she is unsure if she should trust him. Is he really coming around to her or is there something more sinister going on? At the sanctuary one can never be sure. Cara and her vassals decide to head for the Chiasma to find a way to help the dying girls. When they meet a date they find out who the next girl to die is going to be and Cara knows she must do everything in her power to save her. They head to the place where the Vassal War took place to look for an object to help protect the girl. Will they find the object in time? Will they all make it out alive?

I enjoy that each of the vassals has their own personality and not all of them baby Cara. They want her to do well but not all of them are interested in making life easy for her. Cara has an excellent internal monologue that had me laughing out loud multiple times. This book brings out so many different emotions. You feel joy and sadness just like the character is explained to be feeling. I finished this book in less than 24 hours and with that cliffhanger I can’t wait to see how the story continues.

I received this book as an ARC copy.

After what happened in the last book, Caramel and her vassals are looking for a way to save the girls that will die in the future. When she actually finds the name of the next girl in line she knows she has to do something to prevent this from happening. They set towards the place where the War happened to find something to save the girl that's next in line.

The second book in the series and I have to say I'm still scratching my head over some little details that I had some trouble piecing together. I'm pretty sure regular YA readers won't have the same problem, is just my brain not being used to the genre. I also am pretty sure this will be a recurrent situation while reading this series *laughs*

Caramel is a teenager. There is nothing that will make me change that statement because she is. She also is ruled by emotions and the fact that she doesn't know exactly who she is. The journey she embarks on this time is not only of self-awareness but also very good. She's trying to save a girls life. The plot thickens and I have to say I want to see what's going to happen next.

Some of the characters experience some growth and development throughout the story. I hope this happens every time because it's good to see how the experience changes them slowly but surely. I also think that in each book, Caramel is learning and getting closer to a different vassal, even though it's not very noticeable at times.

I received an Advance Readers Copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review.

"Waking The Goddess" book 2 in the Goddess Academy. This story really did pick up its pace from the first book. I enjoyed it, but still felt maybe Cara ( Caramel ) could have been a better more rounded character. She just seems weak and undeserving of the position she is in. ( not the Goddess position ) But being the daughter of Love and War, having four men, and having that forward attitude with no filter mouth you would expect her to be a bit bad ass......

But.... I did enjoy the book there was a hot scene where the RH starts really kicking in.

I like all four boys. Would love to know Devons game!! I'm sure there must be one.

Hansel is my favourite character.

Will be waiting for book 3 to find out how bad things are once Cara picks up the blade and faces devon....

4 stars from me.

argh 😤 that cliffhanger ending!

I am falling in love with this series more and more and I’m so glad that I don’t have to wait long for the next book to be released.

Cara has a quirky personality and her sense of justice is admirable I like her very much; she’s entertaining.

On their quest to find out and put a stop to the dying half-bloods they reveal more about why they’re happening in the first place. And despite a few spelling/grammar errors it’s well written and I got sucked in from the beginning and my attention hasn’t wavered; I devoured this book.

Caras relationship with her vassals is growing and in particular we see more of Devon and get a sneak peak into his backstory.

But that cliffhanger was just cruel 😱🤯😭😤😑(It took a split second to go through all those emotions by the way!)

The mystery of the deaths only unravels further in this instalment in the series and although more answers are revealed even more questions are asked. A sudden character change occurring even makes things more suspicious. Cara does all see can to struggle through despite this knowledge and the pressure she feels to protect the other girls. But there is only so much she can do when she is not wholly supported by her vassals, despite some of their relationships strengthening in this book. Cara however keeps questioning herself and her power though as love may not be enough to help battle goddesses and save everyone. Looking forward to the next instalment and whether love can conquer all.

This next book in the goddess academy series was bloody fantastic! It completely enthralled me from the first chapter, pulling me straight in to the story and along on the journey with the characters. It had me laughing out loud just like the first story. The character development is so well told it makes the story that much more, by building it up and taking you on the magical journey right along with them. I love all the descriptions that make everything so life like and really make the tale jump off the pages right at you. The whole book wit its twists and turns and off the charts hot romance between the characters is just epic and really won't disappoint!!

Oh Clara. Her life has been up heaved and taken to a new world full of problems. She must figure out how to navigate her new life, accepting that it isn't a dream.... Or is it?? What is she if she isn't only a half blood? How much power will she develope? Can she save the chiasma and Haven? The ending is a total cliff hanger, especially with the prolouge and the hints at the reasons why Devons father and Agness want Devon away from her! Does she stab him? Does she take the Golden blanket too? Do they save Dana! Ah! So many questions. I cannot wait for book three!!!

I liked the first part already, but this one caught me even more! I like the way it is written, and also there were new greatly formed characters (family members) and I had a specifically favorite part for Cara (nope, not only one, at least two, but maybe even more). The idea of this academy is still refreshing (who would not want vassals for herself, right?), the mystery of missing girls escalating further and leads Cara and her vassals to unbelievable places and situations. You don't want to miss it!

*Spoiler Alert* Continuing on from book 1 Cara is still trying to find her way in a world. After some of the secrets that were uncovered in book 1 Cara is trying to keep her scores high. To keep her in the running to be a goddess. With the help of her vassals - Devon, Theo, Hansel and Liam. Like the previous book this one is full of secrets that get uncovered. I loved this book as much as the last one. Its funny, witty and just a great book all round. Cant wait for the next one

Clara Hartley has continued this series fantastically. This book is even better than book one and I feel like I really got to know the characters more in this book! I am still hating on Liam but I just love that Cara gives it back to him...he acts like such a twit!! but Cara is getting on so well with her other three vessels and that bathroom scene between her and two of her guys (not giving away who...you have to read it to learn!). I liked Cara so much better in this book as well and she is really starting to develop in her powers and her confidence. But that beginning and the ending...I so need book three!! Recommended, exciting series by a talented author!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters became a lot more developed. Cara gets closer to her vassels and starts to learn more about them, along with her mission to figure out what exactly is going on at the sanctuary. There are still unanswered questions, but it adds mystery for the upcoming book. It does end with a cliffhanger, but thankfully Clara Hartley releases books quickly! I would definitely recommend this book

Wow. Cara keeps getting deeper into the mystery deaths at the academy.. wanting to know why it's happening and how she can help set things right. Between navigating her lessons and determining her relationship with her men.. it doesn't leave much time for investigation. Will she be able to solve the problems around her and have time to pursue romantic relationships.. only one way to find out. A must read!

Unique Read

I loved the first book and couldn’t get enough of the second. There are many RH books that take place in an academy setting but this series is the only one that I’m aware of that has an academy for goddesses. The author did a superb job of giving more depth to characters and depicting the various scenes. I can’t wait to see what happens to Cara and her vassals in book #3!

Second book in the series. Highly suggest reading in order. This story takes some very interesting twists. The story continues with Cara trying to solve the deaths of the other young women. She may be only half goddess but she definitely has a lot of love and compassion. She also has a terrible ability of getting herself and her men in trouble. Danger definitely follows her around. Plenty of mystery and adventure as she tries to solve the deaths. And expect a little of hotness too.

This book continues on from book one when Cara and her vassels found the morgue and what was happening there. This leaves cara trying to find a way to stop the all the girls from dying. Cara and her guys go on a journey to find an artifact to stop the next girl from dying when she sees her face in the lake. Throughout the book you are taken on a rollercoaster ride that ends on a tragedy that you won't know what happens until the next book. You need to read this series

Wow . I think this was better then the first book. Wow so much crap going on and so many questions answered but so many more not . What is up with Liam he acts like he wants her but acts rude and upset when she doesn’t go after him . Her mom and dad need to be found. ASAP and maybe more questions will be answered.

Another great book

This book continues on from book 1. There is still some shady stuff going on. I can’t help but feel the goddesses are corrupted. But Cara and her Vassels are trying to unseat ravel the mysteries without you know dying. I can’t wait to find out what is next for them.

Book #2 was even better than Book #1. I love how the story is progressing and seeing everything that Cara and her vassals are willing to do to change what is happening at the Academy and to save the lives of the other Half-bloods. Cara's powers are also progressing, and I'm very interested to see how they fully form in the end.

Cara is back and still struggling to adapt to goddess school. Only to have the added problem of trying to figure out how to stop the mysterious deaths as well. The story is well written and the characters grow as the series goes on.

That ending really caught me by surprise. I wasn't expecting it. Cara and her vassals want to find the reason girls are still dying. They go on a big adventure that could end up being much more trouble than they expected. I'm really into this story and look forward to reading the next book.

Fun read!

This was a fun read! We learn more about Caramel, her powers, and her men. We get some steamy bits but it’s mostly action. 4 stars because I think the change with Devon could have had more meat and explaination.
