"Tonight I'll help you touch the stars. And when you fall back to earth, I promise to catch you."
I have to say I didn't love this one like the Gabriel's Inferno series and I'm hoping that the hero becomes more charismatic in the following books. I was not in the least in love with him in this one. Maybe it was because Gabriel played a big role in this book and whenever there was a scene between him and Julia, I melted into a puddle of love. He will always be one of my all time favorite book boyfriends. I've rated this a four only for the fact that I loved getting to spend more time with Professor Emerson and Julianne.
The story, at times, was hard to follow. I think the Prince needs to have a lady love of his own in the next book or I am seriously going to be disappointed!! I want some vampire sexy times!!

The Prince is the prequel novella to The Raven, Reynard’s new The Florentine series. It’s a series that’s based in Florence, Italy. But it largely takes place in the underworld. Some of these characters are not what they seem. Reynard won me over with the Gabriel trilogy. I fell in love with those books, the writing, and the love. I didn’t love this as much as the Gabriel series, but I feel it’s too soon to judge. Seeing that this is just a novella.
The Prince had something very precious to him stolen a long time ago. And he’s found it. His famous works of art that were taken so long ago are now in the hands of a Professor. Professor Gabriel Emerson to be exact. The Prince is one of those characters that makes it clear he shows no mercy. He wants his art back, but more than that, he wants revenge.
The Professor would pay for his thievery, and his wife would mourn him. In those events, justice would be served.>
Along with his art he’s trying to obtain, the Prince has other larger issues to contend with.
Dark, dangerous and full of mystery, the Prince is a character I want to learn more about. I’m excited to read The Raven to find out what’s going on with him!
Just a side note- for fans of the Emerson’s, they are in this novella quite a bit. I can never get enough of one of my favorite literary couples so I was happy about that! I really do want to know what the Prince detect’s with Julia. Hopefully we find that out in the next book!

If you like me read Gabriel’s Inferno Trilogy [my review of book 1]
and fell in love with Gabriel Emerson, was mesmerized by the ingenious attention to detail and sophisticated plot, captivated by their epic love which likely elevated The Sylvain Reynard to status of author legend… then this series is for you.
While Gabriel’s Inferno series is a contemporary romance, The Florentine is paranormal.
The Prince (prologue) is the opening introducing us to the hero and ruler of the underworld The principality of Florence William, The Prince and lays out the back story.
The Emersons are in Florence to enjoy the exhibition of their priceless collection of illustrations of Dante's Divine Comedy at the Uffizi Gallery.
Unbeknownst to them The Prince is observing them from afar and up close and develops a bit of a fascination with Julia. More on why to unfold within prologue and to be further explained throughout trilogy.

3 Mysterious Stars.
I jumped on this one after seeing that was the prequel to a new series by Sylvain Reynard, and after loving the “Gabriel’s Inferno” series and finding out this will take place in the same “world” except in Italy, I became very curious.
I did not know that this series are taking a paranormal turn (I probably should have checked it before) but for some reason that fact made me step back a little. Not to mention that despite being very well written and having an aura of mystery that leave us curious for the first book, this prequel did not left me very impressed. And it made me even angrier because it costs 3,99 for just a novella. I could probably buy at least 2 full-length great novels by that price! The best part of it is he were able to see a lot of Julia and Gabriel!
But anyway, this is just a prequel so I’ll save judgment for after reading the first book!

I was excited to find out while reading The Prince that The Professor and Julianne from Mr. Reynard's other series: Gabriel's Inferno was a big part of this novella. The connection between his previous series and his new series is exciting for us who are fans of Mr. & Mrs. Emerson.
The Prince is a character who is part of the underworld. He wants revenge on who has his stolen artwork. Unfortunately, the couple who holds that piece of artwork is none other than our beloved Emersons.
While The Prince is stalking the Emersons he 'senses' something is not right with Julianne. We never learn what that something is and that info piques our curiosity.
Mr. Reynard's beautiful writing is evident as you flip the pages of this novella. The Florentine series is set in the romantic city of Florence, Italy. The paranormal aspect of this new series promises to be thrilling.

I find it poetic that these novels and novella are set in Florence.
Florence has a lot of remarkable, beautiful bridges.
This novella (which in the sense of novellas, doesn't feel like one) truly is a bridge from the Gabriel's Inferno series and your favorite characters over the Arno and to the new Florentine Series.
The world SR has created is incredible. Detailed, vivid, romantic, sexual and immersive in the stunning Italian culture.
I think that even if you're not a fan of traditional paranormal novels that you'll enjoy this series not only because of SR's writing style but because of the inventive way that the two histories are joined together into a magnificently cohesive story.
I am jealous of SR's storytelling ability and can't wait for you all to read about The Prince, his Raven and the new cast of characters that may give Julianne and Gabriel a run for their money -- or Dante illustrations.

Not great, but not terrible either. It was interesting enough that I'm definitely . . . maybe planning on reading The Raven when it comes out next week.
My biggest concerns are:
1. A surplus of unnecessary parenthetical statements (it was obnoxious and distracting--oh, the iiiiiironyyyyyy), and
2. The ridiculously unbelievable fight scene in which whom I'm assuming is to be the Object of Our Desire in the full-length novel bests two other vampires (<-----also an assumption) . . . by fighting them . . . simultaneously . . . with a sword in each hand, and then beheading them . . . also simultaneously.

"He was fleet of foot and cunning in the extreme, his supernatural strength compounded by his intelligence."
I enjoyed this introduction into new series and was very much intrigued by the Prince of Florence. Sylvain Reynard provided great "tease" of what is to come in his The Florentine trilogy and made me super excited for The Raven. I will be definitely reading it as soon as I get my hands on it!
However, this novella lacked the "wow factor" I am used to when it comes to Sylvain Reynard's storytelling. I am huge fan of Gabriel's Inferno series. But even though Professor Emerson and his beloved Julia make a big appearance in this novella, I have to admit that I was more interested in supernatural Florentine underworld than revisiting main protagonists from Gabriel's inferno series. For me, Gabriel's and Julia's story was closed in Gabriel's Redemption and I am ready for a new adventure by Sylvain Reynard.

An Intriguing Transition To A Supernatural Suspense
When Gabriel's cherished drawings are displayed at the Uffizi, he gains the ire of the original owner. After years looking for his stolen artwork, the Prince is shocked when they turn up right under his nose. Not one to let trespasses go unpunished, the Prince is determined to exact his revenge on Gabriel.
This novella was masterfully written, seamlessly intertwining the lives of Julia and Gabriel with the mysterious, centuries-old Prince of Florence. There is a dark underworld, where supernatural beings continue to thrive unbeknownst to their human counterparts. Having drawn the interest of one of the oldest and most powerful rulers of this underworld, it seems that Gabriel and Julia's reality is precarious, at best.
I found this novella to be quite enjoyable. I am curious to see where this story will lead and was impressed with the ease of transitioning between these two worlds. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead as this supernatural war gets underway, and what that will mean for Gabriel and Julia. A great lead-in to the next book.

The Prince is a really great bridging novella, seamlessly blending the past with the future, by offering glimpses of Gabriel and Julia Emerson from the unforgettable Gabriel’s Inferno Series, as well as introducing the reader to the elusive Prince of Florence, and how their lives come into contact as a beginning to The Florentine Series.
There are a few little teasers and a lot of scene setting going on in this novella as well. The light and beauty of the Florence you view when you read of Gabriel and Julia’s times visiting the city, as well as the darker, harsher and wholly different underworld of Florence that you get to glimpse through the eyes of The Prince and his subject’s.
A teasing, and intriguing start to the The Florentine Series, Sylvain Reynard’s The Prince offers the reader, just the merest taste of the thrills and spills that can be expected in the forthcoming release The Raven which is due for publication on 3rd February 2015, I am looking forward to continuing the adventure!

As a big fan of the Gabriel Inferno Series by Sylvain Reynard, I was equally excited for The Prince. In Reynard’s newest prequel novella, The Prince, the author was able to bring back Gabriel and Julianne into the storyline. I was beyond happy when my favorite beloved couple played a big integral connection to the book.
The Prince is one of the main characters of The Underworld of Florence, Italy. The Prince had some special artworks stolen from him and so the story chronicles his quest in retrieving these items and getting his revenge on those who stole from him. One of these stolen items happens to be connected with Gabriel and Julianne Emerson. The Prince makes no qualms about it that he wants his possessions back and that Professor Gabriel must pay for thievery and his beloved wife will pay with a broken heart . The Prince is definitely one of those mysterious dark characters that has no mercy. Not only does The Prince has to deal with the Emerson family, he also has some unwanted problems that begins to rise. Another Underworld faction wants him assassinated.
The Prince was definitely a page-turner and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for The Prince in The Raven. I am definitely intrigued with The Prince’s character. This book was mysterious and has you wanting to know more of the characters. And for you Gabriel and Julianne fans, The Prince hints that there is something wrong with Julianne and that has definitely wanting me to know what is wrong with her. I can’t wait to read The Raven and see where The Prince takes us on this dark, mysterious and thrilling side of The Underworld of Florence.

Un libro un poco corto pero excelente para ser una precuela.
Honestamente leí este libro porque había leído que Gabriel y Julia tenían algunas apariciones. Y cada vez que aparecían estaba flipando, amo leer sobre ellos, es hermoso.
El príncipe honestamente no me gusta hasta el momento y en especial me asusta un poco (creo que espiar a una pareja teniendo sexo es bastante creepy).
Sylvain sigue teniendo esa pluma encantadora, ligera y bien construida. Veremos que pasa en los siguientes libros (SI, JULIA Y GABRIEL SIGUEN TENIENDO APARICIONES EN LOS LIBROS SIGUIENTES, AUNQUE NO SON LOS PROTAGONISTAS DE ESTA NUEVA SAGA).

The Prince, Sylvain Reynard's novella, is darkly sexy, fascinating, and highly addictive. The author's writing is completely hypnotic and very powerful. The story is a wonderful introduction into the new Florentine Series, and features the stunning Professor Gabriel Emerson and his beloved Julianne. However, we meet a whole new set of characters in this very sexy, paranormal romance. I absolutely fell in love with the story!
The Prince is ruthless, cunning, and powerful. But what mysteries is the Prince hiding? And what secrets will he uncover? I can't wait to find out in The Raven. This story can be devoured in one sitting, and will leave you wanting more. The setting is broody and mysterious, and the bridge between the Gabriel Trilogy and the Florentine series is simply brilliant. I have sorely missed Sylvain Reynard and I anxiously await the The Raven!

As a reader I always consider it a gift when I can get my hands on anything written by SR, because I truly love his particular writing style. It’s fluid, and brings the narrative to life with beautiful descriptions that allow me to experience the story as I’m reading it. I also know that along the journey SR will take me on, I’ll be immersed in the arts…paintings, literature, and music will accompany the tale I’m being told, and add depth to the richness. And hey…a trip abroad to the beautiful city of Florence, Italy? That’s yet another bonus.

Me ha encantado! Él es un misterio, él es un vampiro y es un antiguo y viste de negro y tiene una moto negra. TODO ÉL es... intriga y misterio ¿Por qué entonces el autor lo hace tan breve? ¡Es injusto! Tiene un argumento que es para escribirse cuatrocientas páginas porque es una apuesta paranormal donde el personaje todo lo ve y todo lo sabe. No tiene problemas en pisar una iglesia y ufff yo quería más escenas así.
Más no puedo decir porque contaría todo Tienen que leerlo. Por momentos me recordó a "Lestat" de Anne Rice, de ése tipo de vampiros nada más que más elegante y bastante siniestro al momento de llevar acabo su ‘cacería. Para aplicar la justicia no duda en matar. Existe una raza de vampiros, una sociedad estructurada y... ¿Y sólo queda en una novela corta? ¡Es injusto para ésta alma lectora!

So we had two different perspectives going into The Prince. One of us has read the Gabriel’s Inferno trilogy; the other hasn’t. Therefore, this was a great test as to whether The Prince could be read with new eyes all things considered seeing as Gabriel and Julianne feature. The result; yes it can as both of us were equally intrigued and a tad confused at the same points. For the readers who fell in love with this couple, this new journey is even more special. Both of us were mesmerized!
The Prince is our introduction to The Florentine series in the form of a prequel set in the stunning Florence, Italy. One of the most beautiful and historically poignant places, truly magical in her artistry, musical and poetic romance. The setting, coupled with the absolute emotional beauty of Sylvain Reynard’s writing sealed it. Flawless and stunning – poetic and magnificently interwoven.
“We try to touch the stars, but we always fall back to earth.”
Not all is as it seems when our Professor Emerson and our beautiful Julianne attend an unveiling at a gallery in Florence. They are being watched by the powerful enigma that is The Prince of Florence. The immediate mystery shrouding his character in an otherworldly veil was compelling and also puzzling. This Prince is there to rectify a crime carried out against him when his artwork was stolen over an age ago and has now resurfaced in the unsuspecting hands of Gabriel Emerson. The formidable dark Prince wants his illustrations back and rightly so, by any means possible against the culprit. As one of the most feared and dangerous men from the underworld this will come through revenge, violence and possibly a broken heart. Not necessarily in that order; though you feel he is just in his methods and actions.
‘Too many human beings hoped their deeds would cover their sins and save them.’
So; throw in assassination attempts from other parts of the underworld wanting a revolt which The Prince must fight, a stolen illustration, our much loved couple, a hidden illness and intriguing drama and we’re all set up for the first book in this series, The Raven. We can’t wait to get stuck into this series properly as we were left wanting and needing more. Sylvain Reynard knows how to entice, compel and wow his readers, no question.

I’m a long time reader of Sylvain Reynard’s stories, and I was curious to see what SR could do with a supernatural series. I read The Prince in a single evening and found it an intriguing introduction to the underworld of Florence, Italy.
Much of the vampyre lore I observed in The Prince was not unfamiliar, but I did enjoy how SR put a special twist on some of the usual rules. The moment when the Prince visits Santa Maria Novella and the Spanish Chapel stands out in my memory as a great opportunity to study his true character, and I found myself replaying that scene over and over as I went on read The Raven. In the novella, The Prince witnesses a private moment between Gabriel and Julia Emerson that stays with him and begins to influence his choices during The Raven. I find the complexity of his character absorbing. The Prince’s vampirism is a trait that cannot be ignored, but I see it as merely one aspect of a very complicated individual.
While it was comforting and familiar to read more about the Emersons in The Prince, I was also delighted to be introduced to a new ensemble. Aoibhe is a particular standout, nearly stealing every scene she appears in. She is a fascinating character and, truthfully speaking, I’d love to see a novella that focuses on her. She is cunning and ambitious and I think she has a deeper hold on The Prince than he’s willing to admit to anyone, even himself.
For those who may be nervous about venturing into the paranormal world created in The Florentine Series, I can say with confidence that there is still plenty of romance within the new saga; and I think SR’s exploration on the themes of justice and mercy have made for a compelling read. Fans of Sylvain Reynard are in for one hell of a ride. SR has created a brilliant, supernatural universe in the underworld of Florence. The Prince is rich with history, intelligence, suspense and sensuality. It was a truly captivating read. I devoured it.

Sylvain Reynard, you really have a way with words.
I really love how this guy writes. I don't even know to explain how beautiful he arranges every word he writes. When I try to read the lines of the characters out loud, it always sounds more like a poem or a song. It might not work for a lot of people, but it certainly does for me.
The reason I didn't give this book more than 4 stars is because I am conflicted to how I feel this new spinoff series will go. I hope I'm wrong with my assumption, but I'd still give The Raven a shot.
Oh and by the way, THE PRINCE IS SUPER CREEPY.

I didn't love it, but I enjoyed it :) I like where the story is heading. The Prince is an intriguing character and all this paranormal side is quite interesting. As a novella I think it's a good introduction to what is coming in the next books. I like the bridge the author presents between the Gabriel's Inferno Series and this one. Reading about the Emersons was nice, but I found myself more interested in the Prince's storyline and all the paranormal underground stuff. So I'm really looking forward to reading The Raven and solve some of the mysteries that came up in this novella :) I hope I'm right and Reynard's Florentine series is worth reading. e

I absolutely adored Sylvain Reynard's "Gabriel Series" so of course it was a given that I would want to read his new series. I couldn't wait, especially because I knew my beloved Gabrielle and Julianne were going to be in it.
This story was set in the beautiful city of Florence. A city that fellow Gabriel fans will be already familiar with. I was transported back to the time when Gabriel and Julianne placed the illustrations of Dante's Divine Comedy into the care of the Uffizi Gallery. These famous illustrations once belonged to Florence's underworld until they were stolen many years ago. In this book, we saw Gabriel and Julianne placed in danger as the underworld sought to take their revenge out on the new owners of the Devine Comedy which unfortunately happened to be the couple.
I really didn't know what to make of the Prince himself. I feared what he was going to do to Gabriel and Julianne and I feared the world that he came from. There was so many questions going around in my head about this strange character. I didn't like him much but I was extremely curious. What i did know was the kind of people he came from were not exactly a friendly bunch.
As always, Sylvian's writing was as beautiful as ever. "The Prince" was the perfect novella to kick a new series off. It left me utterly intrigued and wanting to know more. Bringing Gabrielle and Julianne into the story made it far more appealing to me. How can I not read a series that includes this beautiful couple? Bring on "The Raven" and maybe I will warm to the prince!

The Professor must be made to suffer and that meant his beautiful wife must suffer.For me, the highlight of this short story was being reunited with Gabriel and Julianne. My heart soared each time they made an appearance and I was disappointed when the story moved on to other events. I wanted to stay with the couple and was desperate for more from them. Unfortunately, for me, the underworld was not particularly inviting and as such, I was not keen on the particular aspects of the story. I was however drawn into the parts that were about Gabriel and Julianne and I am eager to know more about what the series has is store for them.
Mercy was not part of the Prince's nature and not all the romantic l over in the world could change that fact.

No me ha convencido mucho esta nueva incursión de SR en el género paranormal. No porque esté mal, sino porque no es de mi estilo. Me habría gustado más si hubiera girado la trama en torno a un romance, aun siendo paranormal. Pero no es el caso.

Great start to a new series!!!
I'm not really a fan of the supernatural stuff. Ok, I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood - and in comparison The Prince fell a tiny little bit flat for me. But only because it's so different....that's totally my fault - Sylvain has this extremely different writing style and even though it's both about Vampires, The Prince is something completely different.
I loooved how we meet our beloved Professor again.
And I really can't wait to read THE RAVEN, because we need to know sooo much more about our Vampire Prince and we especially need him to have a love interest - and I hope that Raven Wood will take over that part in THE RAVEN ☺ That was the part that I missed the most in here - that The Prince didn't yet meet Raven in this novella.
But the way Sylvain writes and explains everything, and the beautiful background of Florence... The Prince was really very interesting and suspensy and even sexy: Gabriel & Julianne ☺
Now I can't wait for THE RAVEN to come out, because I have to know if and how Raven Wood will 'tame' our Prince ☺ And what will happen with the Emersons.
If you loved THE GABERIEL SERIES and even if you're not a fan of vampires - you need to read this Florentine Series introduction novella - because then you won't be able to wait for 'the Raven' to come out too ☺

4 "Underground Prince of Florence" Stars!
Whether you are fans of the Gabriel Emerson Series or are just looking for a quick introduction to the The Florentine Series, The Prince is a great segue between these two series. Romance enthusiasts, however, take note that this book, as is sometimes typical in sequential PNR Series, is really just back world setting. For the romance, you will have to wait for the later books in the Series (in fact, the heroine isn't even introduced until Book 1). Fortunately, The Raven (Book 1) does jump right into the passion/romance angle of this series. Moreover, if you want to skip this one altogether and start at Book 1, you will not be lost for doing so. In fact, I think listening to The Raven before this book actually helped me appreciate the intricate political nuances all the better!
Also sadly, for the audiobook listeners out there, I think this introductory novella is only available to read (not listen) which is a shame because I listened to the Raven, and am in the middle of listening to The Shadow, and John Michael Morgan's narration is divine.
