Ladakh: A Piece of Broken Moon Land: The Photography Book

Rate this book
This book attempts to capture the beauty of ‘Ladakh’, a high altitude cold desert in the Himalayas, in pictures through my eyes, along with some facts. As we all aware, no photograph can truly do justice to this picturesque and breathtakingly beautiful land that stands unique from every place on this earth. However, I have tried to capture some frames in the hope that they would inspire people around the world to come and explore the paradise that is Ladakh. The journey to Leh, the capital of Ladakh, through the world’s highest motarable roads is an experience that should not be missed by any road-tip enthusiast. So, let us start exploring Ladakh in pictures. In addition to this, there are also photographs captured in the other parts of Himalayas (i.e. Kashmir & Uttarakhand) included for you to get a glimpse of beauty of these places as well. I hope this will not only inspire you to travel but also help you to learn about these places, people, and their culture.

If you can't travel, read about travel. That's my mantra to beat this stupid virus.

This was a nice little book describing places in Ladakh briefly and including pictures.

It's not a travel guide, so don't look for that. It's very short. In fact, releasing it on Kindle wasn't such a good idea - all the pictures are black and white. It should be a coffee table book with full sized pictures.

Yet I could feel the beauty of Ladakh and the admiration of the author. Sigh, wish I could visit sometime soon.

Anyone who loves travelling will totally agree on this. What best way to know about the world out there other than going into it?

But since it is Lock down and all we could do is travel through books, this book takes you through the high mountain passes, beautiful snow capped mountains and the enchanting rivers of Ladakh and proving that it indeed is a Moon land and the boat ride at Kashmir and frozen lakes and scenic beauty at Uttarkhand gives a beautiful finishing touch to this simple book with breath taking views.

The book is a really short read, a photo book as mentioned in the title and more in the format of a travel guide with facts and details of the places, with author's first hand experience in the places adding to its beauty. Its hard to believe all these places are in our country, they simply look like they are right outta a fairy tale, dreamy, enchanting, mesmerising I could use all the words I could find in Google and still I would fall short of words to genuinely describe its beauty.

The reason it took me almost a week to finish reading this book is because I was totally in love with the pics and can't stop myself from enjoying the beauty of each places which we can zoom in(isn't it cool) and get lost in the beauty of the nature at the expense of the author.I found myself scrolling through the pages often just to look at the pics.

Travel books are totally my kinda books and Ladakh is one of the places in my road trip list. I am just hoping for the lock down to end soon and to travel places. Until then I would just keep travelling through the books for the time being.

Travel lovers do give it a try. I am sure the book will make you want to visit Ladakh if it is not already in your bucket list.

It's worth seeing if one has the least fondness for Himaalayan landscapes in particular or alpine in general, whether one as experienced them or otherwise.

The writing could stand some editing.

The photos are wonderful and speak so much of the sheer beauty of Ladakh. The descriptions are nice, but definitely felt like a travel brochure trying to sell Ladakh, which wasn't necessary since the photos speak for themselves and more information about the places (rather than trying to sell them) would have been more insightful. My main complaint about the book is the lack of good editing, with multiple typos, mispelled words, and poor grammar. With some revision this book could be amazing.
