Waiting in the wings, the housekeeper, Merril serves, watches and waits for the opportune moment to reveal her true identity.
This book is utterly brilliant. So, how do I talk about this book without spoiling anything? Not easily. For the first half of the book the story is an intriguing mystery but then one of my favourite characters meets a bloody end. From that point all hell breaks loose and it culminates in the WTF ending of the year.
It's a gothic thriller mystery. There are hidden passageways, a mysterious chests, medieval torture, a magic box with a morbid secret, there is so much I want to tell you about! But I can’t. Because that would ruin the fun for you.
If you like smart, well written books set in a mansion and littered with violence get it now.
Really good read and the further I got the more intrigued I was! I do have questions left unanswered that I wish had been given, but overall a great story with a complete ending (even though it's not how I would have liked it to end)!
I cannot remember the last time I read a book in one sitting. I found it well paced and absorbing and every bit the mystery thriller I was promised. It is, to me, well researched - the use of runes a good point - characters believable - and I found it difficult to put down. Also, the short chapters helped a lot. Clever ending, yet possible links for a prequel or two.
Wode House is a fascinating and brilliant read. This is the sort of book which you just can't put down, a real page turner. When i got to the end of a chapter I immediately wanted to read the next one. Gripping, interesting and intelligently written. This is a must read, I highly recommend it.
