((Minor Spoiler and Warning at the bottom of the blurb. Please read all the way through.))

The war with Gaelis has gone poorly for Alex’s foes and well for his allies. He’s enriched himself, empowered his county with that coin, and built his county ever higher.

The war swings in favor of his Duchess.

Yet the war still goes on. The end doesn’t seem to be near, nor does Alex feel as if is as simple as he’d once thought it.

Alex would rather settle down in his county and live a quiet and enjoyable life. One filled with familial things and friends. Where he could make his county the pride of the empire in peace.

Because he’d already gotten to the top once before. He’d climbed the corporate ladder in his previous life and missed out on really having one.

Having friends. Or just a family.

Now Alex wants only for the simple things. Things that have no place on the battlefield, kingdom politics, or the courts.

That of course doesn’t matter much when fate is concerned. Or really everyone else in the empire. They all have their own plans that all seem to run counter to Alex’s.

Fortunately, Alex has been preparing. Making changes and building his foundation and seat of power ever higher.

He’s empowered the people he relies on and in. His armies are expertly trained and almost over- equipped. His treasury is overflowing and ready to be spent.

Even with all of that, Alex isn’t sure it’ll be enough for what he believes is coming.

Because spring is here. And that means roads will be opening. Passes will be traversable.

Making it possible for armies to march.

Which means it’s time for Alex to get back to work. Because more than ever he has a lot to lose, including his newborn children. If he wants to keep them safe, he’s going to have to ride to war once again.

And end it once and for all no matter the cost.

Warning: This novel explores dark subjects, and what people will give up of themselves, and each other, to get what they want. The main character is written as a real person in a tough situation and will not make choices that line up with societal and cultural norms.

It contains adult themes and moral ambiguities.

As with my previous work, explicit scenes are found within. It has violence and a harem relationship.

By far this is my favorite Randi Darren series. The way Alex's mind works. How he doesn't seek out conflict, but if you mess with him, he will do anything to bring it back on you 100 fold. The only issue I have with this book is that the Numbereds now seem to have their names back. I just got used to which number went with which personality and now I have to try and remember which name goes with which number? Thanks a lot Randi Darren! It took me that much longer to read this book because I had to try and get every name and number straight in my head. I don't really need to get into specifics in this book. If you read and liked the first 2 books, you will like this one.

New standard

It’s hard to read other titles of this genre. The author has set a high bar with this book. Character development and the story are intriguing and leave me wanting more.

What a complete waste of my time I liked the protagonist and all the number'd but ffs the story was left on a cliffhanger and we are told it's the end of the series don't start reading this series no matter what it's a complete and utter disappointment. I am literally pissed as all hell that the author has led me on for 3 books and left me with 0 conclusion to anything in the story. Go write freaking erotica for ppl that don't care for actual good plots and please never write fantasy again I hate you!!!

What a hard drop in quality. DNF at 40 pages left.

Everything is completly blown out of proportion.
Middle ages and suddenly the count that had like 1000 troops with mercenaries in the first book has an army of over 100.000 soldiers in the MIDDLE AGES. yeah no. The supply lines alone whould be impossible. The crusades were like 40.000 people. Most big armies where like 10.000 people back then.

Travel is WAY too quick and it's like they teleport all over. Making distance and planning meaningless.
Everybody is just Count Inferno this, Count Inferno that.
Female nobles with a higher status just submit like sheep...
Male nobles are all retarded...
No challenge in anything. All plans work flawlessly.
Building up the "wilds queen" and building fortifications happens WAY too quick..

Lets make a printing press. In an extra cellar under the keep. Only took what? 6 month to dig a cellar and make a new unheared of tech... Myne from Ascendence of a bookworm did that better and that is a world with magic.

The Pantheon stays completly unexplored. Expept for hey look sexy godess wants to marry...

Suddenly the eastern kingdom, who the mc has never heard of before, attacks with 300.000+ Soldiers. And 100.000 cavalry. SURE Horses don't eat and one cavalry soldier doesn't need horses to swap. SURE just bring like 150.000 Horses with you you can feed them EASY. Yeah sure.
And the 250.000 of the duchess with home advantage have "no chance" cuz they are tired of 1+ years of war. sure...

And lets just teleport to their capital and destroy the economy?!? Easy, cuz everybody has braindamage, distances don't matter and the languagebarrier apparently only doesn't exist at all for all specialists involved. While the two kingdoms that are currenly at war.

Woldbuilding was just flushed down the toilet...

Interaction is mostly just the Numbered wanking him off verbally. No politics at all... Best is a single talk to make someone surrender or rage.
The women just all jump him and accept everything. Deals are meaningless and with that the whole premise of the original storyline.

Holy fuck this is disappointing.
Did an intern write this? The first was so good...
Makes me genuinely mad.

For once, an Arand/Darren series that doesnt jump the shark and decline in quality as it goes on. Perhaps in part due to the lack of runner's presence (hint fucking hint author). Hes mentioned at the end and thats it, doesnt ruin stuff like in other series. Loved the ruthless, morally ambigious protagonist.

I still weep over super sales though. Arand's best work to start but went to shit like all his other series save this one. What a shame.

Awful book. Awful just awful

Spoiler alert you have been warned

This book was by far the worst of the 3 books because this book didn't even have anything new the author reuse plot points from the other 2 books and just kind of rehashed everything and throw it all together and published a book that was it that was nothing new....

At the beginning of the 3rd book we have our main character going back to the wilds to help out the queen up there then after that he goes in attacks a Dookie again and then after that he goes up north and gets captured again just like in the second book there's nothing new here

He literally gets captured again and has to go through the whole thing like he didn't have 1⁄2 book about outwitting his captor and finding out a way to get out of it without getting killed in all the while his goddesses are not really doing anything and now we have 1⁄2 1 who wants to marry him but he's still just being the plain on mortal he gets nothing else out of it I mean the He literally gets captured again and has to go through the whole thing like he didn't have 1⁄2 book about outwitting his captor and finding out a way to get out of it without getting killed in all the while his goddesses are not really doing anything and now we have 1⁄2 1 who wants to marry him but he's still just being the plain on mortal he gets nothing else out of it I mean they marry him off again had a 1 thing after another and he's not getting any more powers in this at all what was the weather had a 1 thing after another and he's not getting any more powers in this at all whatever.

Not to mention in this book wanna pay his wives or soon to be wives gets killed and yeah she goes to his goddess because she's like I have her soul and all that good stuff but it's not like she says oh you'll get it you know when you die and you go to the next world no it's like all I'll give her a good after life in a story bye thank you for nothing....

This book absolutely sucks I do not recommend it I'm not in the sheriff I'm going to read the next 1 because this book came out in 2019 and the 4th 1 still hasn't come out yet.

By Far the Most...

Completely rounded of his series and getting there to perect(haven't figured out how to half a star).FF1 i wobbled my hand at and accepted as a substitute for WW. FF2 i grew to like more it had the trend that can be found in the other series that go with any book 2 for William D. Arrand(a.k.a. Randi Darren) of oh shit something went wrong(heres a hint movie title Behind Enemy Lines). But FF3 expands on what ive found to be wrong with the series and started not to like. Our hero truly doesn't lose. Yes we want our hero to win and the draw is he wins by not making those cliche mistakes that involves us accepting an issue for plot convenience. But still that has to be a lose or else (or maybe its just me) it really becomes those not so acceptable 80s movies where the hero walks into several killing rooms repeatedly and survives unscathed with a pistol one clip a knife threw away instead of using and started ripping throats out with his bare hands!! Now I'm not saying I don't enjoy those but after awhile you know what's about to happen and don't look forward to the next installment. But FF3 took a note out R1, expanding on the shared universe, and lastly showing that this was only the beginning and that Alex's trials were just kids in a sandbox fighting. All in all can't wait for the pick up on this one

Title: Fostering Faust 3 (Fostering Faust, #3)

Author: Randi Darren

Genre: Dark Fantasy, Harem LitRPG

Randi Darren’s Fostering Faust 3 is a thrilling continuation of his dark fantasy-harem series. This installment significantly deepens the morally complex universe he’s been building, offering fans more of the cunning, manipulative protagonist, Alex, and his quest for domination in a world where power, pleasure, and survival intertwine in increasingly intricate ways.

Plot Overview:

This book picks up right where the second volume left off, with Alex further consolidating his political and magical power, expanding his harem, and maneuvering his way through a variety of social, political, and supernatural challenges. Darren's protagonist isn’t a typical hero but rather a tactical anti-hero who thrives on manipulation, bending others to his will. However, as his empire grows, so do the stakes. There are plenty of moral ambiguities here, and the book delves into how Alex's decisions impact those around him, both emotionally and physically.

Character Development:

Alex: By now, Alex has become the embodiment of the Machiavellian hero. His brilliance lies in his ruthlessness, a cold pragmatist willing to use anyone and anything to get what he wants. While his character might appeal to readers who enjoy morally gray protagonists, his development in this volume feels somewhat stagnant compared to the growth he showed in earlier books. He grows stronger in terms of magical and political prowess, but there's a lack of emotional evolution.

Supporting Characters: Many of the secondary characters—primarily women—are largely there to serve as parts of Alex's growing harem. While Darren does attempt to give each of them a distinct personality, they often feel like tropes rather than fully fleshed-out individuals. Their personal arcs are frequently sidelined in favor of furthering Alex’s ambitions.

World-Building and Themes:

One of the stronger points of the novel is the immersive world-building. Darren has crafted a complex universe filled with rich political intrigue, magic systems, and societal structures. However, the novel’s reliance on a harem dynamic as a central plot device can feel limiting to readers who are looking for more depth beyond power fantasies and sexual conquests. This is a notable difference when compared to other LitRPG or fantasy-harem books like *Daniel Schinhofen’s* *Binding Words* series, which balances character-driven plots with a rich world. Darren's world-building is intricate, but it often serves as a backdrop for more erotic elements, which may appeal to some readers but alienate others.

Critical Comparison with Contemporaries:

Compared to other works in the harem-LitRPG subgenre, such as *William D. Arand’s* *Super Sales on Super Heroes* or *Eric Vall's* *Summoner's Path* series, Fostering Faust 3 continues to stand out due to its darker tone and exploration of moral ambiguity. Whereas Vall's series often emphasizes heroism and overcoming challenges through teamwork, Darren’s work delves into themes of manipulation, control, and dominance. Alex, as a protagonist, is less about forming meaningful connections and more about asserting dominance over his world—a theme that is both compelling and controversial.

When comparing Darren’s work to *Daniel Schinhofen’s* *Binding Words* series, Schinhofen tends to lean toward more empathetic characters who genuinely care about their harems. In contrast, Alex views most of his relationships as transactional. While Darren’s focus on darker themes provides an edge and a niche appeal, it also limits the emotional engagement readers might feel compared to works by Schinhofen or Vall.

Writing Style and Pacing:

Darren’s writing is fast-paced and blunt, which works well for the kind of power-driven narrative he's aiming for. However, the style can feel repetitive at times, with scenes of conquest and seduction dominating much of the story. Compared to contemporaries, Darren's work lacks the more complex interpersonal dialogue and emotional nuances found in other fantasy-harem authors. It excels in creating tension and driving forward the plot, but readers may find it light on introspective moments or deeper moral questioning.

Overall Assessment:

Fostering Faust 3 is a polarizing book. For fans of dark fantasy with anti-heroes, morally gray decisions, and a focus on power dynamics, this book will be highly engaging. However, it may alienate readers who are looking for deeper character development or emotional nuance. Compared to other series in its genre, Darren’s work is darker and more unapologetically focused on power and control, which will either enthrall or repel depending on reader preference.

Recommendation: If you're looking for a protagonist who bends the world to his will through manipulation and are comfortable with the harem aspect, Fostering Faust 3 delivers exactly that. However, if you prefer more character-driven fantasy with emotional depth, this might not be the series for you.

This third installment was nearly as enjoyable as the previous two.

Full of Vivid War, Political intrigue and steamy sex.

All three of these books has been well written, and a shinning example of how great a fantasy novel can be when a strong plot, interesting characters and kinky sex are all rendered in extraordinary detail.

I am hopping there will be a Book 4.

As will the previous books I wish the anther did not "off screen" so many sex opportunities, however I can say this book was much better about it than previous ones. I like it in harem stories where we do not go from conquest to conquest forgetting about the girl before and only focus on the next girl. Alex's girls are all really unique each with her own flavor, and personality and style, and he goes back to each over and over.

I was worried as I began to read this book, it would follow the same formal of, interesting event, War, more war, triumph of military strategy. but this book has a really great spin on Alex's final victory and or how he and his girls achieve it. was really great.

The only thing i did not care for is his Numbered starting to call him by name rather than "Master".
and possibly that his "Deal Making" sort of fell by the way side, and his personal deals don't always seem "He get's more, they get little" anymore.

one last note. it would be nice if Alex granted some women to his loyal commanders. He always seems to get the pick of the litter, then his men are forbidden to ravage, rape or murder, sure they are well paid, and armed, but I am sure the men would enjoy some soft play things of their own.

anyway. very much looking forward to a new installment in this series, it seems there is much more story to tell.

I don't know how someone that writes everyday and released so many books could do it, but the dialogue in this book was worse than all the others I read. I was cringing inside while reading.

The author doesn't seem to have continuity beta readers. I'm sure things happened in this book that didn't or wasn't possible in the previous books (but I will not read through this book with a fine tooth comb to find the proof).

This book went from making uneven deals in order to get someone's soul, to "redeeming" someone's soul. This series (Fostering Faust) did so much mental gymnastics over the past three books that I believe the author doesn't know what he is doing. The quality has consistently dropped in this series over the past three books.

The harem situations are also getting worse. He (the author) is trying to portray that this one guy with his twenty plus current lovers who know each other are one big happy family with no back stabbing. It's like he is trying to "top" his previous books.

I really did enjoy this book series. There were some surprisingly touching scenes for a harem series. Though of course there was the normal 70 times per page that they proclaimed their love and how beautiful the girls are (gets a bit old).

Also the same gripe i have with all reincarnation into different world/empire building books. The main character never wants more power, they just want to be left alone in they're little barony or whatever and a forced to take up arms. They seek it out themselves, even though it would make their work much easier. Or the fact that most people would have at least been tempted.

Like Alex in this book. At one point he can see that he could do the most changed and hence the most good if he was emperor , but he has no interest in it at all. Even going so far as to say he would fight to be only a count. It is always the same in this type of books for some reason.

There is a lot more to praise and criticize, but i will leave it like this for now.

excellent

What a finish! Love how the author ties all the different trilogies from different realities (universes) together with overlapping characters, yet they all stand up on their own. The MC, Alex, is a Machiavellian manipulator who is ruthless to his opponents but exceptionally generous to his allies. It was especially interesting that the only magic on this reality seems to be for oaths. Everything else is strategy, tactics, psychology and physical activity. Alex’s goal was to exceed Leah’s standards, while plowing every possible woman till its a wonder his equipment didnt break off from overuse. All told this was an exceptionally intriguing read and I’m continuing to read the author’s trilogies and hope that he will continue to blend realities and interesting characters as these stories have, l think, much more life still in them. I really appreciate his writing style and look forward to the next trilogy on my list.

A Great Novel

This book is truly a great one. The Count has mellowed out even more, compared to the start. Not only that, but he takes part in some truly epic politics and warfare, all while just wanting to stay home and relax. I wonder if he’ll make the steam engine and design a tank division? It’s just fire, water, steam and steel. If he made a plane like the wright brothers, he could just go all Night Witches on his enemies. Whichever path he takes, I cannot wait for the next installment of the dastardly doings of Count Inferno. Oh, and Anna. Anna is the best!

P.S. the lewd scenes in this book and the others of the series actually enhance plot development and character growth, as tough as it is to believe. Wether you’re here for the plot or the girls, this series won’t disappoint.

Small Wars Sometimes Grow Into Big Wars

Alex's troubles multiply as two civil wars draw him away from Brit County, yet again. Fortunately, or not -- depending on how he views the issue -- his harem of Numbers, wives, and concubines continues to grow as well. Possibly even more disturbing is the fact that a second goddess has taken an interest in Alex and he has no clue where that could lead.

This novel connects to other trilogies by Arand and Darren in what I've decided to dub the "Runner-verse," because Runner appears to be the initiator of the VR worlds which comprise the field of battle between himself and Zeus.

Some of the other trilogies have more blatant LitRPG elements in them, so I'm classifying this as a LitRPG, harem, light erotica novel, which matches with the other trilogies.

I enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed the rest of the series to-date. The "but" implied by the delta between that statement and my 4-star rating is that there was far too much of the how-much-everyone-loves-everyone-else; personally I don't need the MC's feelings for his women reinforced so often and such repetition. I know and appreciate that the redemption of the "broken" Numbers is integral to the story, but in execution it could have occupied significantly less of the word count.

When the story was moving it was excellent, it just bogged down a few too many times for my taste. Still, not a fatal flaw, and I look forward to the next installment.

Another great book

I would like to start this review by saying, there is a fine line when writing these kinds of books. Too little story or too much "happy time" between the characters can break a story. I am happy to report this is balanced well in this latest installment. As for the story, I found it much better than the last book. We get to meet new characters, visit a few new places and have some sadness sprinkled in for good measure. I am greatly looking forward to the audio book when it becomes available as well as the next book in the series!
In conclusion, thank you author for such a wonderful story told well!

Never cross your Count

With a tital Count Inferno the Butcher, you would think that angering or hurting those he loves would be a bad idea. You would second guess your actions before you made them, but here we find that even a King is not able to escape his wrath.
This was another great read that took 2 days to finish. Yes there was sexual encounters with several different beautiful women and yes multiple partners, but that's not the only focus of the story.
The story took over from where book 2 finished and still it was exciting and thrilling to the point of not wanting to put it down.
I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

A few complaints, but still great.

My main complaint is that in the first 10% of this book I love you or some variant was used 49 times, so the beginning was quite tedious. Besides that though it's a good read, I do miss the first book and how it was more focused on deals and getting the most out of them. Now there is such a surplus it doesn't really matter, but either way it's still a cool premise and a fun book. I'm not sold on the merging of worlds that's going to happen with all these different series yet, but maybe I'll be surprised.

Outstanding

The plot thickens, the action is almost non-stop (and I do mean all the action), the world expands, the characters grow, and the meta-universe interaction is fascinating. I think I need to figure out the best chronological book-reading order of the different series so that I can get the most out of their references to each other.

Anyway: great book, great story, great value (big book!), and definitely worth reading, especially for fans of the author in all his pen names.

Good... but..

I have the same issue with this as I have with other books by this author. Off screen kills of people I like are SO annoying. I almost stopped at that point. Other than that (which is a huge deal to me) the book was good. Tied up a bunch of stuff and opened the door for another series with this MC. If this habbit of killing people in random attacks becomes a pattern in his series I may have to just stop reading them at all.

Don't cross the Count

Damn fine book. Wish I would have got the notification that it was available sooner. I enjoyed every part of this book. I'm not ashamed to say that there was even a couple of tears. The feels!!!! Now while I am not really big on the whole harem aspect, i do applaud the masterful technique with which he rehabilitated his property. I am eagerly looking forward to the next books in the series.

Count Inferno

Alex Brit is a scoundrel, a murderer, a cheat, a pervert and a war hero who can be loyal, honorable and merciful. All the great qualities of a main character.
I really enjoyed reading about the court politics as well as the strategy and tactics of the battles. The relationships with his multitude of women pushes the boundaries of fantasy.
However, the storyline is solid and holds my attention. I’m looking forward to the next installment.

Good exhausting fun

To the author,

Sir, aren't you tired by now. It can't be easy knocking home run after home run out of the stadium into upper atmosphere. I mean dealing with all those complaints from NASA has got to be eating up your time....

What I'm trying to say via drawn out not that funny joke....is that this book was another excellent work from a thoroughly excellent author. 10/10

Absolutely fabulous

What a magnificent read. Put together perfectly with a plot full of twists and sex. It gallops along like Xer light cavalry and doesn’t let up till the end.

Lots of battles, political shenanigans and the MC getting himself stuck and unstuck which made this so easy to read.

Also plenty of pieces of info inserted to make the next book an enticing tease that I for one can’t wait to read 😁

I was enjoying this series until this one. It has been a fun ride where the MC manipulates deals for women to do things they would rather not. Unfortunately in this 3rd book the MC completely folds and begins SIMPING for all his slaves. It's bizarre and disgusting. They even get pissy and start punishing him. One of them even left during sex after she was done and left him unfinished. At least it's logical. How could a woman have any respect for a weak simp?

So I just finished FF3 and hot damn did I like it. It had me laughing and crying and even worrying at one point. The sex scenes weren't overly done nor were they cringe worthy. I LOVED this book. I can not wait until he writes the next set of FF trilogy. This will be one of the book series that I will try to buy the ebook, audio book and physical copy if/when when I can afford to and they exist!

Wow!!

I expected a fun tale with interesting plot twists. I'm thrilled to have received a rip roaring story with characters growth, depth and thoughtful world building. Instead of merely plodding along this was a bit of a rocket. I was hooked! Great story and I look forward to reading the next book!!

Count ( empire ) building

I really enjoy the way the plot is set up in this series. The harem elements are not overbearing and showcase bits and pieces of character development as the main character interacts with them. I don’t write reviews often it takes a special book/series for me to take the extra minute to write. This series is highly recommended.
