Hope Valley #4

Wrong Side of the Tracks

Rate this book
Gypsy Bradbury was never destined for great things. Or at least that’s what she’d convinced herself of. Growing up on the wrong side of the tracks, she had learned that hoping for more was a waste of time. Then Marco forced his way into her life and gave her a glimpse of a future brighter than any she could have imagined. But if her past taught her anything, it was that if something seemed too good to be true... it probably was.

The promise of a quiet, simple life was what drew Marco Castillo to Hope Valley. After experiencing war and death first hand, he was looking for something easy. Then he met a woman with guarded eyes and the most beautiful smile he’d ever seen. The only problem was she came with more baggage than a 747.

There is nothing easy about Gypsy, but Marco knows without a doubt that the promise of her is well worth the effort. She’s the strongest, bravest woman he’s ever met, and when the life she’s fought to build for her and her family is threatened, Marco is determined to win that battle for her. Whether Gypsy wants his help or not.

Spoilers ahead

After reading the last book I'd hoped for Gypsy's and Marco's story and I started in without getting safety details which for me was a giant leap of faith. Thankfully I wasn't disappointed.

Gypsy's been working 2 jobs to take care of her siblings after their parents abandoned them. She and Marco have been circling each other for a while but Gypsy's been hurt and abandoned so many times she's built a wall around her heart. When drug dealer Black buys the club she's stripping at Marco steps up to keep the woman he can't stop thinking about safe.

Gypsy reminded me a lot of my girl Cher, she worked so hard and sacrificed so much for those kids she deserved her hea. She pushed Marco away a lot but with her history one couldn't blame her.

Marco was a sweetheart, there are no details of if he was with anyone in the time he wanted Gypsy(thank you author) so I'm going to assume he was celibate while waiting on Gypsy. There are also no details to give a manwhore impression (THANK YOU AUTHOR!) But from the moment she gave him a chance he was all in. I adore him with the kids!

Teeny tiny separation but absolutely no one else

My only complaint was that I wanted more, it felt too short or maybe I'm just a greedy reader. This author's books are always a delight when they're safe so I'm happy I took a chance. This series is giving me Burg feels so I'm hopeful that I'm able to read the other books in the series, for now I'll count this one as a win!

******Eta see this is why I have a like/hate relationship with this author's books. At the end of this book we get an excerpt of the next in the series and from the prologue the h sounds like a doormat, then Cord kissing her from his hospital bed and calling her by another woman's name was enough to make me want to throw up. I'm hopeful that this author doesn't revert to her standard doormat h/manwhore H but I guess time will tell.

This series keeps getting better and better!!! Gypsy boy that girl deserved her happily ever after and she got it but not without her not being able to catch a break. Gypsy had a lot on her plate for a 25 year old. She’s been taking care of her 5 siblings since she was 17 years old. She lives for those kids and has thick walls around her heart because of sour past relationship until Marco. Marco was all alpha and knew how to make her change her mind. He was genuine and he embraced the kids and her older neighbor that helped her out as his own. Kids loved him too which was enough for Gypsy to give him a chance. Marco is all about protecting his family and goes above and beyond even confronting her deadbeat parents. There was a work drama in which Gypsy was involved that stops your heart for a bit but besides that it’s a great story that will make you cry and laugh all in one.

Marco is so delicious!! He knew Gypsy was worth everything and made it his mission to show her. Gypsy fought it hard, protecting her heart until she realized Marco didn't want to take from her; he wanted to give her and the kids the world. This was my favorite so far from the Hope Valley books!

3 Slightly Meh Stars

Gypsy’s life has been anything but easy, thanks to her selfish, self-absorbed deadbeat and MIA parents, but she hasn’t let the pressures of life break her, she does all she can to ensure the younger siblings she has continues to raise have a better childhood than her. The Bradbury clan is made up of Gypsy, Rhodes, Sunshine (aka Sunny), Raylan, Holiday (aka Holly), and Raleigh, the kids were in some of my favourite scenes and when they were on the pages I read, no skim reading occurred. For some reason at times the way in which Gypsy put herself down, annoyed me, she’s a rocking sister and person, but I can see how people and life could have her thinking she wasn’t meant for a HEA (but still not happy about it).

Marco refuses to let Gypsy’s fear and uncertainties stop them from exploring what they have an he firmly focused on being a steady protective presence in her life and the lives of those she loves. I did like how all in Marco was with Gypsy, but also with her siblings, it never felt like he was simply tolerating them because he wanted their big sister. It’s the kids that really have me giving this book 3 stars.

The premise of this story sounded right up my alley, add in a group of kids and I was keen to dive in. This was an ok/easy one time read, but sadly it didn’t blow my mind, and tug at my heart as I would have liked. There were moments where I enjoyed what was happening, but overall my attention wasn’t firmly grasped, at times as I read my attention was also elsewhere. A tiny bit of skim reading did occur in the middle and towards the end.

Book 3 at present remains my favourite in this series, and the only one I want to re-read.

Another adorable couple comes out of Hope Valley. I think my favorite connection was Rhodes and Marco?!? I loved their connection! This story was so much more than just a man falling in love with a woman. It was a story of redemption, family, finding your home, and falling head over heels in love with every character that graced the pages. But as I said before, Rhodes and Marco's connection and promises hit me in the FEELS so so HARD. I just LOVED them. Gypsy and all of her strength, Marco and all of his hot broodiness. Another complete and utter score for Jessica Prince. Thank you again!!

‘Wrong side of the tracks’ is the fourth story in the ‘Hope Valley’ series and one of the books that I was looking most forward to, to read this summer. Because after reading the 3 previous books in this series, Gypsy’s character was still a bit of a mystery to me. But the one thing that I did know about her, was that Gypsy may be young but she already had had a hard life. That she wouldn’t fall for any man, that the man who wanted to conquer her heart, had to be very special. So that made me very curious to Gypsy’s story. And Marco was indeed a very special guy. He wasn’t only strong enough to break through the wall that Gypsy had built around her heart but also to take care of her brothers and sisters too.

Gypsy may be only 25 years old but she already knows a lot about responsibility, about taking care of family, about love and heartbreak. Gypsy is the oldest of six children, her parents decided after the youngest child was born (two years ago) that being parents wasn’t something for them, so they left and Gypsy became the only caretaker and ‘the parent’ for her 5 younger siblings. Life isn’t easy but the love that Gypsy gets from her siblings is worth every worry. One of the difficult decisions that Gypsy had to made, to provide for her family, was to become a stripper. It is not something that she likes but it pays the bills. Then she meets the most handsome and interesting man…..Marco. He’s everything that she dreamt of as a young girl before her heart got broken too many times. Because of that, she keeps away from him. But Marco isn’t a man that will accept distance. No! He wants to get very close to Gypsy. Will Gypsy let him in? In her heart and in her family? Or is the wall around her heart too big to break through?

This story was everything that I hoped for. We got to see the ‘real’ Gypsy, a woman who loves passionate but who also hurts very deep. A strong woman with a lot of responsibilities. Life made her hard, so she needed a man who understood all that and Marco is the perfect guy for her. He also had had a difficult life and heartbreak. I loved how he could be both dominant when needed but also patient and soft hearted at other times, especially with the children. I really loved them as a couple and Gypsy’s brothers and sisters made this story more emotional. ‘Wrong side of the tracks’ is another great book in this series. The story is told from both POV’s but we get a bit more of Gypsy’s POV than Marco’s but I didn’t mind that. This book can be read as a standalone.

I’m already looking forward to the next book, that will be about Rory and Cord!!!

Goodness me, I feel like I’ve been watching, waiting for Marco and Gypsy to stop playing coy and making goo goo eyes at each other. To finally man (or woman) up and go for it—to give their intense connection a chance to grow into something more, something real.

And in Wrong Side of the Tracks they finally do. And, O.M.G. it’s everything I wanted for them and more.

I loved seeing Gypsy with her siblings. Loving them as if they were her own children—doing the absolute best she can to make sure they each have everything they need to grow up to be whatever the want to be. She sacrifices everything for her five siblings—and those siblings are fiercely protective of Gypsy too. I envied their closeness, their love for each other. And that love only intensified once Marco stepped into the picture.

**fans self** Marco. Damn. He’s finally going after the woman he’s wanted for so long. He’s bound and determined to protect her, to love her, and to love her siblings. To make sure Gypsy’s taken care of, just like she takes care of her brothers and sisters. And, wowza, is it amazing.

I couldn’t read Wrong Side of the Tracks fast enough to make sure Gypsy and Marco and the kids got the happily ever after they so wanted and deserved. But I also savored every word. I loved the relationship that blossomed between Marco and Gypsy. It was smart, sexy, tender, swoony and so very romantic. And don’t get me started on the love that developed between Marco and the kids. Seriously, men and kids? Panty-melting, swoony awesomeness.

This Hope Valley series just keeps getting better and better. And I cannot wait for more! ~ Missy, 5 "Sunflower" stars

Did not work for me.
The 2 older siblings should have gotten jobs. Especially Rhodes.
The there are Gypsy’s friends. They could not help her get her GED??? They just could not help her find a decent job or give her a night or two off from watching her siblings?!?! Weird.

Gypsy Bradbury has her hands full working two jobs and raising her 5 siblings with help from her next door neighbor Odette. During the day Gypsy works at a grocery store and at night she dances at Pink Palace as a stripper and one of the main attractions. She has vowed not to get into another relationship after the past few have gone horribly wrong and she knows she must concentrate on working hard so her siblings can make something of themselves and escape the life they are in.
Marco Castillo has been attracted to Gypsy for a long time and when he learns that the Pink Palace has changed ownership he volunteers to go undercover for his job with Alpha Omega. Marco has had his own hardships in life but has managed to overcome them and finally get on the right track. But now all he has to do is convince Gypsy that he is the right guy for her.
As Marco slowly tries to win over Gypsy will she allow him to help her out and will her siblings like the new presence in her life? When things get tough for Gypsy will she push Marco away and try and handle everything on her own or will she accept that she needs help?
This was such a great book and I really enjoyed it from start to finish!
I loved Gypsy as she was determined to succeed on her own with raising her siblings successfully pretty much on her own except for Odette who was always there to watch the kids when Gypsy worked. She definitely did not have an easy go of things but she really did the best she could and I admired her for that.
Marco was such an awesome character and I truly loved him from start to finish. He always kept his word and did whatever her could to help Gypsy and he didn’t back down at the beginning when she was pushing him away. I also loved how he jumped right in with helping Gypsy with her siblings. They all formed such a great bond with Marco although Rhodes was definitely worried about Gypsy pushing Marco away.
At the beginning you could see how Gypsy was hesitant with Marco but he almost forced his way into her life and he really made things easier for her and you could tell how much he cared. Yet at a certain moment everything changed and an event gave Gypsy the ability to push Marco away not realizing the effect it had on everyone else. I was proud of Marco for the things he continued to do and I was definitely mad at Gypsy for pushing him away.
At a certain point I was so proud of Gypsy for realizing she needed help and with what happened I was so glad that she got help! Yet things take a different turn after this and some of it was good and some definitely not very good!
The end was so awesome and I really want more of this series as this was the first one I read and now I need to go back and read the others! - By Rebecca

***5 ‘Brilliant’ Stars***

This series is killing me.

No.

Seriously. Killing. Me.

Why you ask?

Because not only do I grow more fond the couples I’ve already met, but fall into adoration with the current couple doing their own special mating dance and THEN become absolutely fascinated with a newbie character (and OMG I’m ALL in with this one ~ Mr. Beardsalot is sooo MINE) all while needing another couples story ASAP.

It’s truly a vicious cycle, one admittedly isn’t a horrible one, but really? How can I pick my favorite when there are already so many to choose from and more to come? It’s not fair. It really isn’t...but onto the review.

I’ve loved Gypsy since first meeting her in Eden and Linc’s book and after experiencing all that she has been through and all that she is fighting to hold onto, I couldn’t help but adore her. She has her walls and she did things that had me growling and shake her BUT she comes by it all honestly and it was hard to truly be upset with her knowing just how huge her heart was. Marco. This man killed me. In the best of ways. He has his secrets and his walls, but when he’s in. The man is ALL in. Alpha AF definitely describes him, but in the best of ways: charming, kind, generous, honest and protective. The man is the total package.

As for their journey to their HEA. I thoroughly enjoyed the push/pull between them. Their chemistry was off the charts, but more than that, they just flowed when they were together. Even with their mile high walls, and yet Marco’s are just as thick and high as Gypsy’s, they had that thing that had me believing that they were a perfect fit for each other.
There is a bunch of stuff I could add here, but what it comes down to is that this book hit all the right buttons for me and has me loving this series even more. The family dynamic, the well written characters, the touch of suspense...it’s just all that and a bag of chips. As for the supporting cast of characters. I loved hanging out with Eden & Linc, Tempie & Hayes and Nona & Trick and seeing how their relationships are going. Gypsy’s siblings were so much fun and Odette was awesome! Rox is killing and I’m hoping we see more of Susan, because she was awesome, but...Xander, Xander is mine. Simple as that. But I cannot wait to get my hands on Cord and Rory’s book! I’ve been waiting not so patiently since Out of My League and I NEED to know all that happened between them and see how they’ll finally get their HEA!

If there is anyone that can get me out of a book funk, it's Jessica Prince. When the Wrong Side of the Tracks hit my kindle I did a happy dance and thanked the Book Gods because I knew I would have no problem reading this book. Jessica is a go to for me, and I always manage to eat her stories up.

This book though, this one I devoured and I fell in love with the storyline, the characters and more specifically the hero. Books that feature Alpha's are my jam and make no mistake Marco Castillo is an Alpha male and it's hot as hell. He's determined and he's protective and he's going to show Gypsy that's she's deserving and oh my gawd I've died and gone to book boyfriend heaven.

And the heroine is strong and so deserving of all the love, she's one of those women that you can't help but want to cheer for. She's also got a set of balls on her that is admirable.

So many moments in this book where I swooned, I got hot and bothered and some where my heart ached for these characters. I got invested in all of them, their struggles, their triumphs, and hoped they would get the HEA that they so clearly deserved.

Absolutely loved this story and once again Jessica saves the day for me.
I'll keep repeating myself until I'm blue in the face, Jessica Prince is an author YOU NEED TO READ.

Wrong Side of the Tracks by Jessica Prince is one beautiful and emotional read. Gypsy & Marco’s story will move you with it's beauty, steam, and love.
Marco is the Alpha male you dream of, Gypsy is such a strong and sweet woman that you want to have in your corner. These two make this story poignant, at times heartbreaking, amazing, sweet, with some spice and heat, add some drama with heart and chemistry which is a beautifully written story. Marco and Gypsy are THE couple that make this book shine. There are secondary characters that add to the story and are ones to watch for in upcoming books. The Hope Valley series is awesome and I can't wait to read what's next!!!

This book was everything I was hoping for and even more!

Ever since Consume (third book in the Civil Corruption series), I'm in love with Marco Castillo and have claimed him as mine. I've been waiting for him since then, and it was so worth the wait.

Marco Castillo is totally alpha, bossy, cocky, but he's also loyal to a fault, someone who met pain and grief but overcame, sweet and protective, and when he loves, he gives everything he has.

And Gypsy Bradbury deserves nothing less.
The problem, though, is that she is also someone who met pain, rejection, prejudice and was forced, since a very young age, to become the anchor and safe nest to so many little people.
She is guarded, stubborn, prideful, but oh so resilient, loving and a total mama bear!

But being told more often than how unworthy she was, living for so long in the wrong side of the tracks gave the wrong idea that she is not worthy, even though she is one of the bravest and most special people ever (and I'm saying about other books too).

"'If not you, then who, huh?'
'Someone worth it'
'I'm right where I want to be, and I'm with exactly who I want to be with'"

It was definitely not an easy journey for them. They experienced so much in their lives, that trust wasn't something to give so easily. Gypsy was also so used to being the one people counted on, the one to be responsible and take all the baggage, that accepting all that was Marco was a hard task, because he was so all consuming in an amazing and scary way.

She had yet to realize she deserved it, she deserved all the beauty life could give her, she deserved her amazing brothers and sister, she deserved her friends, she deserved all the love Marco was willing to give her.

"'She deserves everything'
'I know'
'If you're not sure you can give her that, then just walk away now'
'I promise you, Rhodes, I wouldn't be where I am right now if I wasn't sure'"

And what should I say about her brothers and sisters. I was in love with them all and I couldn't decide which one I loved the most. They made me laugh, they filled my heart, they made me have unshed tears in my eyes.
They were what Gypsy deserved and what they made them to be. They all lived for each other, they struggled together, they fought and survived and loved for each other. They were the whole and complete package, and loud and loving package. And when Marco realized they were more then he could ever have wished for, there wasn't a single question about it: he wanted to be a part of it all.

"I didn't realize it at the time, but I had nothing before I met you. You gave me purpose. You gave me strength. You and those kids gave me everything I could ever want or dream for"

"The Bradburys were back on track, and offically made whole with the inclusion of Marco Castillo into our family"

The walls behind Gypsy's eyes were not easy to break down, but the light they held was worth all the waiting and fighting.
She was as resilient as she was full of love, and loving was something she did with all she had. And when she realized it was safe to love Marco, they shone so brightly.

"'What do you see right now?'
'My whole world, girasol. Every time I look at you, I see my world'"

But life wasn't only hard because of their trust issues. Much bigger and more dangerous things were lurking around just waiting for the chance to break them and create tragedy.
Things that could easily get out of control, things that forced even independent Gypsy to turn for help in her most vulnerable state.

So it was a good thing they were walking together in the right side of the tracks , building the lives they wanted for each other and their loved ones. They had friends and family they could count on, and they had each other.
So no matter the darkness they faced, their beautiful joruney was only beginning.

"Starting today. Remember this moment, because this is exactly when our great life started"

Finally, we have Marco’s story and it was well worth the wait! We originally meet Marco in book 3 of the Civil Corruption series “Consume”. After reading that story I was really hoping he would pop up somewhere down the line and boy did he in Hope Valley. Gypsy, the MC, has made appearances throughout the HopeValley series so we know going in that her life has been anything but easy. Raising her five siblings and working multiple jobs (one of which is a dancer at strip club) has made her the tough. Marco’s past wasn’t all sunshine and roses either. These two together were steamy and breaking down the walls Gypsy built around her heart was not easy feat. Marco’s interactions with her brothers and sister were super sweet. As with the others books in the series, there was a touch of suspense but not too much. We are introduced to Xander, who I am now really looking forward to reading....I need to know more about his dark side. 😉

Another great addition to the series and another fav of mine from Ms. Prince.

I liked this book more than I thought I would, but I have a major beef with how the poor (as in financially broke) heroine behaved with money. I've been dead broke and worked two jobs to stay afloat, just like Gypsy, and have had to scrimp and save when unexpected expenses came up. One thing I never did though, that Gypsy did a ton of in the book, was eat out. That is one of the most wasteful expenses out there, one diner or restaurant meal would be over a week's worth of bagged lunches made at home. Now that I can afford it, I love the odd lunch or dinner out, but back then... Nope. And coffeeshop coffees? What's the markup on those, 500%? Ridiculous. But I loved the rest of the book, the interactions and awesomeness of the characters. The story was great. Just that money thing drove me nuts every time she went out for lunch on her break.

Sexy, steady Marco

Loved this book about Marco and Gypsy. Her parents are deadbeats who up and leave her to raise her five siblings ranging in ages from seventeen to a two year old toddler. She works two jobs - grocery cashier by day headliner stripper by night. Marco works for a security specialist company and former military. He has been interested in Gypsy for a while and works to get her to see her value. There is a bit of trouble with the local drug dealer, but HEA wins out in the end.

I've enjoyed this series so far, this one not so much. Gypsy had everything stacked against her from a really young age and she's left to raise he 5 younger brothers and sisters and she does this remarkably well. What she didn't do so well when she got to the point of drowning because she was in so over her head was to accept the hands that were offering help. This dumb bint pushed everyone away and I found myself rolling my eyes on too many occasions.

There wasn't any OW/OM drama which made a nice change, and I really liked Marco. I just wish Gypsy hadn't pushed him away so hard that she actually hurt the kids she was caring for.

ARC read in return for an honest review.

The Hope Valley series has fast become a firm favourite of mine, and it’s been some of Jessica’s best work to date, as for Wrong Side of the Tracks, she’s well and truly smashed it out the ballpark.... it is AMAZING. The book tells the story of Gypsy and Marco, of course there are some familiar faces, those we’ve come to know and love throughout the series as well as a few new characters.

Gypsy’s a strong willed, independent young woman, she’s the sole guardian of her five younger siblings, doing what she can in order to provide for them, their needs come before everything else, she’s a cashier by day, stripper by night. Marco works for Linc at Alpha Omega Investigations that’s how the pair know of one another, through their mutual friends, there’s always been that spark of interest between them but neither has acted on it, until now. Marco is done waiting, he’s going to claim his woman, he just needs to break through those walls she’s built up around herself and if she lets him into her heart he’ll show her just how worthy she is of being loved and how he’ll always be there for her and her siblings.

Can Marco break through Gypsy’s defences, helping to shoulder some of her burdens? And what happens when Gypsy catches the eye of her seedy, criminal boss who’s under investigation of both the police and the men of Alpha Omega Investigations? Read Wrong Side of the Tracks and find out, it’s one red hot, sexy romance you do not want to miss.

Another fabulous addition to the Hope Valley family of seriously sexy hunks and their awesome women. The uber hunk Marco and his girasol aka sunflower, Gypsy, are one sizzling couple. Sexy hot! Gypsy is amazing and her fierce love for her siblings as their only provider and protector is awe inspiring. She is terrific as she works two jobs to take care of her family. And those kids! You could make whole series about those wonderful young boys and girls. They were all great. And then the supremely male Marco enters the picture and the love really begins. He wins over the kids but first he has to breakdown Gypsy's walls and her "I'm from the wrong side of the tracks" mentality. Marco could care less and he has his own demons to deal with. When an old nemesis suddenly pops up at one of Gypsy's work places the crew from Marco's employer, Alpha Omega Investigations, gets involved especially the darkly mysterious Xander. Can't wait for his story. Fantastic storytelling, spectacular characters, and the wonderful family and friends makes this story and the series a must read. I love the group of supportive women and the way they are always there for each other. And not to be outdone are the spectacular hotties that are attached, or want to attached, to those fabulous women. The author does a terrific job of including previous couples without giving away too much of their stories. This one has it all...a steamy romance, a suspenseful element with danger, a swoon-worthy hero, a beautiful heroine, and great support characters. Just fantastic! I look forward to the next Hope Valley story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.

Oh My God !!!! This book is so amazing !!!! I have no words to describe how much. Maybe I will sound little boring, and maybe I'm repeating myself ... but I'm so in love with Hope Valley and The Wrong Side of Tracks !!!! I was sure it will be good book, because it's Jessica's Prince BABY.... however I didn't expected  this kind of emotionally level... I didn't read this book - I devorued every word, without looking around too much.

Coming back to Hope Valley, Gipsy, Marco and other people is always like coming back home, coming back to my best friends and family... specially, that Gipsy and Marco are wonderfull together!!!  I was sure, that their book will  be awesome !!! It was steamy love story, with really hard things in the background.... but with the right dose of drama.

Gypsy and Marco capitaved my heart from the begining- it was hard to watch how they struggle with their own demons, however... they managed them perfectly together!!! Gipsy is brave and caring and loving... Marco... is such a man (gah I'm still melting.... and my head doesnt want to work too much).  I could feel energy, chemistry between them, their love and passion and everything!!!!

ABSOLUTELY must read!

Title: Wrong Side of The Tracks
Series: Hope Valley 4
Author: Jessica Prince

4.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐/✨

This is such a sweet and heartwarming love story. I love Marco Castillo and the kids❤️! The only reason that's holding me back to give this a full 5 stars read is when the heroine keeps pushing away the hero, it annoys me full stop. Don't get me wrong I understand the reasoning behind the fiasco, and trust is really important in relationship and after all the heartaches that the heroine suffered from her past relationships I can't really blame Gypsy girl for having a hard time and doubt if this time around is different from the past.

For Gypsy I really like her character, she's such a sweet and strong woman who's in the very young age she becomes the parent for her 5 Siblings (blame it on the neglectful parents). And Marco, I'm swooning over him all through out the book, he is protective, caring and really patience with Gypsy. He understands and respects her, showing her that his love for Gypsy is genuine. 💯

Overall I bona-fidely enjoyed reading this, I love how the author conveys the importance of family love, the strong bonds bet Gypsy and her "kids".  I really felt for each characters. The interaction between the characters, its such a monumental act. I can say that this book will always have a special place in my heart. ♥️
