Will the sins of the father be visited upon the son? When Cassandra Warren, the wife of one of the wealthiest business tycoons in Kentucky, is brutally murdered at her lake home, criminal attorney Hunter Cameron’s own nightmare is just beginning. Cassandra’s death is the precise echo of a murder that occurred over forty years before—a case that nearly destroyed Hunter’s own attorney father. Only this time, it is Hunter’s best friend Kirk who is the prime suspect in the vicious slaying. Caught up in a tangled web of small town intrigue and politics, Hunter fights to prove his friend’s innocence. What no one knows is that Hunter is hiding a deadly secret of his own and that catching the real killer and saving Kirk’s life may very well cost him his own… " HONOR THY FATHER has it all! It's an edge-of-your-seat suspense novel, a touching coming of age story, and a gripping legal thriller with a climax you'll remember long after you turn the last page. It truly is a haunting thrill ride of a novel!"—Teresa Medeiros, New York Times bestselling author
Found out about this book by my aunt, who goes to church with the author. She and her friend was telling me how good the book was, so I had to get my hands on it. In fact, I suggested this book to my book club during our mystery/thriller month. They all wanted to choose it, however at this time (December 2019) there is still no audio book option, so it wasn’t chosen. (That is one of our criteria’s.) This book was 10X better than the book we read that month.
Here’s the thing, this book is great for a book club because you will NEED to discuss it! Thank The Lord above I had my aunt and mom (who also read the book) to talk about it.
It is definitely a page turner! Unfortunately, life continues to happened, so I had to put it down so many times when I didn’t want to. It’s exhilarating, you’re mind will be blown, you will he stunned, maybe even shocked as I was, or you just may not stand putting it down one last time that you stay up until 3am just to finish it. And you may be left on a high when you finish it that, at this time, the next book is not published yet. And you might be a little disappointed that you won’t be able to continue this saga until the next book is released. However, you’re family will probably be grateful that the next one isn’t published, so your head is not stuck in a book. And you will be able to pay attention to them.
Since, my mom, my aunt, and her friend are not on Good Reads, I will on their behave, tell you to go grab this book. You will be thankful you did 😉
3.5 on the nose. A great first effort by a Hopkinsville native! It is subtitled “a legal thriller”, but is more truly a murder mystery. I enjoyed reading about my hometown while visiting my hometown, and was pleased with the inclusion of Centre College in the plot! There were the typical southern writer’s disparaging comments about the natives, but he mostly painted a very positive image of Hoptown. The plot was well executed, and the twists were intriguing. It may be a spoiler to say that his title gave it away nearly immediately for me!

This is one of the most captivating thrillers I have had the pleasure of reading in many years. As one who prides oneself on predicting the conclusion of thrillers, I was simply unable to do so. Mr. Holland describes each character in much greater depth than I have typically observed in suspense novels. There is action, suspense, and insight into the multifaceted realm of human behavior. The reader will be left haunted.
I really enjoyed reading this book. First of all it’s setting is in my hometown of Hopkinsville Ky and surrounding parts of Western Ky. That made it easy for me personally to visualize it while reading. The plot grabbed my attention from the beginning and I couldn’t put the book down. It’s more than just a who done it and legal thriller as it explores through the characters issues we can relate to. I highly recommend it.
This book is extraordinary! Based on the small number of people who have reviewed this book, I assume it’s probably self published. It’s the only book I’ve been able to find by this author. The quality of the story is up there with John Grisham and Steve Cavanagh. About 75% of the ending I kind of had figured out, but the ride was so fun! The rest came out of left field and was quite a shock. I believe I gasped at one point! This is a Kentucky author you should add to your TBR.
A wonderful novel by an excellent writer. The personal and professional struggles of the main characters during a high profile murder trial added new layers to the legal thriller genre. Suspense throughout, expert pacing and the late "surprise reveal" makes me eager to read more by this author.
A good read set in my hometown of Hopkinsville, KY. The character development is excellent especially Hunter Cameron’s descent into Alzheimer’s disease. I was hooked early on but the twists thrown in at the later part of the book didn’t let me put it down for the last 60 pages! A very good debut novel.

I am a voracious reader that very seldom finds a book that "I can't put down." This IS one of those books! It is so well written! The timing, detail, suspense and unbelievable zingers from the start to the very last sentence - makes it one of the best books I've ever read! I can't wait for the sequel - I just need a little time to calm my nerves. 😉
A gripping tale from start to finish. This is one of those books that you do not want to put down. So many twists and turns. If you haven’t picked it up do yourself a favor and do it now. This is probably the best book I’ve read in several months.
If you like murder mysteries with loads of twists and turns, then you've got to read this book! Every time I thought I had it figured out, a new twist would convince me I was wrong. Then, when I finally got to the end and learned all the answers, WOW! I couldn't believe it!
I knew the book must be good when my husband was reading it so fast. The storyline draws you in right off the bat. Lots of twists and turns with a very likeable main character. Of course, it’s extra cool that the setting is the town that I live.
A legal thriller, but really it’s more like a murder mystery. I really enjoyed this book. I thought I had figured out the murderer, but the ending had a very surprising twist! Author is a native Kentuckian, so to hear about places in western KY was also fun.
Good character development, as a ole Kentucky boy who knows Ft Campbell and Hoptown well and the characters within, I am impressed. I may recognize several traits of old colleagues. Good twists, turns. Look forward to the next one, Jason.
I gave this one a bonus star because it’s set in the town I live in and I think it’s cool to read about Ferrell’s and The Woodshed in a book. This is a legal thriller with a few good twists along the way. The main character is a likable local attorney who defends his best friend in a murder trial. He hires an assistant straight out of law school and, while I also liked her, I feel like she could have been developed into a really interesting main character. Missed opportunity. Great book. I won’t insult the author by comparing it to Grisham just because it’s a lawyer book. All my western Kentucky friends should definitely read it.
