If you are a reader looking for an incredible fantasy that you will fall in love with right away, you have come to the right place. This book is instantly engaging for the reader. I was taken immediately with Elon and all that she is. Her friendship with Qid is so wonderfully presented, the reader can't help but hold both characters close to their heart.

Personally, I love how the author was able to create a heroine who has the amazing abilities of Elon. Being almost virtually indestructible, Elon is a hero every planet needs. No one can defeat her, and nothing can stop her.

The story of the Sidra is compelling. The journey that Elon and Qid take is inspiring and mesmerizing.

That this is but book one of at least a 2-part story has left this reader desperate to get their hands on book 2. I personally cannot wait for Elon to get her weapons on that selfish vamp and turn her into vamp pieces that can then burn in the sun.

A fantasy that is worthy of a place in the pantheon of great fantasy stories of the past. Yes, I would put this book in the realm of Tolkien or Martin. A must read for fans of Lord of The Rings or Game of Thrones. An incredible first piece of fantasy work for an author. The second part can't get into my hands soon enough.

My Rating: 5+ stars

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I have to say there is some interesting world building going here. We get entirely new planets inhabited by versions of trolls, dwarfs, witches, vampires, and so very much more. Elon is a mix of quite a few and has been pretty much ostracized for it. After the death of her parents she makes a home for herself as a protector along with a friend with a sassy personality. The two of them make a great combo as stuff starts happening one after another until they find themselves deep in parts Elon had no clue existed learning secrets constantly until we got the sport at the end. Great for fans of sci-fi fantasy. Book two is going to be awesome! I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

I loved every moment of this book! An outcast with their best friend, new discoveries and finding out that what makes you misunderstood and stand apart can also make you stand out and allow you to do what needs to be done. Well written ya fantasy that makes me eager to read the next one from this author!

Elon is a part Vamphire, part Sidar and part human. One a plant where the inhabitants mainly stick to their own kind, Elon is uniquely different and when her world becomes threatened, all species look to her to defend it.

A Vamphire ship has crashed in the swampy marsh beyond her home, while investigating the vessel, Elon is hit with a physic warning advising her to flee. Listening to the warning, she heads into the mountains in search of a Sidhar Star which will save them all.

Feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders alone, will Elon be able to save her planet?

I have read many books by Ms. Adams and while I have enjoyed them all, Elon is her first attempt at writing a Sci Fi novel. I have to say, she nailed it! It didn’t take me long at all to learn about the planet of Palus and its inhabitants. Unlike other Sci Fi novels which are long, and drawn out with a bunch of weird crap, Elon was able to glide right into the story which led to all sorts of interesting creatures such as water sprites, fairies, dwarfs and even trolls! A great fantasy novel.

Great quick read set in an interesting world of humans, vampires, dwarves and “others.” Perfect for young adults and anyone that loves fantasy, quests and destiny novels. The book follows the life of Elon, a young woman of mixed heritage, termed as an “other.” She struggles with identity and acceptance in a world where she is shunned by the majority of society. The book takes the reader on an exciting journey of personal growth and is an allegory that touches on society’s own struggles with race, genetics and identity. Definite must read!

Finally a YA fantasy book that doesn’t define the protagonist by their gender. I get so sick of reading YA fantasies that bang on about a females appearance or how desirable they are to everyone around them, so this was a refreshing change.
There are a diverse set of characters and the world building is great. I loved reading all about the trolls, vampires and dwarves, and I’m looking forward to experiencing the rest of the series.

A great start to a YA fantasy series!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Issues of Genetics and Prejudice Are Just Below the Surface of this Compelling Fantasy

Elon must discover and learn to harness her powers if she is to save her planet from destruction. At that level, Elon: Journey to Truth is a fairly typical fantasy. But author Isabella Adams introduces an interesting twist. She links Elon’s emerging powers to her genetics, something that our protagonist worries about as well. “I reflected on my mixed genetics, wrestling with familiar confusion about my place in the universe.” In Adams’ fantasy world, being vamphyre means you can control minds, being Sidar means you can use telepathy, and being troll means you’ll be strong. And Elon has all three in her blood. Her best friend, Qidira, on the other hand, is initially identified as dwarf and human, but later in the story she is told she has “… the rare genetic gift of a fairy somewhere in your (her) bloodline.” As you might guess, with all this mixing of gene pools, there is great diversity in our characters and with it, considerable prejudice. More than once, Elon has to defend vamphyres against the closed-mindedness of her peers, reminding them that they are not all bad. Genetics may set the bounds, but few, Elon included, believe they define what one will be.

In addition to character development, this world-building tale creates a beautiful setting with lush valleys, forested mountains, clear blue lakes, and lots of caves. It also has an interesting mix of technology. Interplanetary travel is commonplace and yet, much of their food is obtained from hunting and foraging. Much of the industry is based on manual labor, although sometimes it is aided by magic. And even the weaponry hasn’t progressed beyond knives and swords. Will part of a future story expand upon that divergence?

I did have a couple of concerns about the book, both relatively minor. First, I occasionally had difficulty connecting a character’s emotional reaction to the setting. Why was this individual so reticent given the scene? What caused that biting reply? The other issue was the amount of text spent on activities that were part of our characters’ daily routines, e.g., eating, grooming, lodging, side conversations. Much of that did not seem to further the story. That said, it’s difficult to tell what might prove relevant in a later installment of what I assume will be a series.

Overall, Elon: Journey to Truth sets the stage admirably to answer the question, can Elon harness her genetic gifts to save her home? Only the next book will tell.

Thank you #NetGalley for providing this book to me for an honest review.

This is my first book by this author so I was unsure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to find an interesting world with a blend of standard fantasy and new, interesting character types.

The main character is a strong female lead with another strong female best friend. That's a nice relationship to build a tale around as the romantic storyline is completely overused. Most of the book is focused on the characters exploring a new part of their world as they try to find a way to combat a new threat to their world as well as help a group seeking assistance. I really enjoyed the new viewpoints of the storyline and felt the author was pretty creative building this new world.

There were a few misses for me. Overall, there were a lot of questions the storyline brought up in the beginning of the book that didn't get answered until the end. That's a really long time to have to wait as a reader. It would have been better to have had answers introduced at multiple points along the way.

There was a long point in the back half of the story where there was very little action. Then just as it started picking up, there was a lot of time spent on handing out answers to the questions from the beginning and providing a big back story. That felt very clunky to me and I found I started to lose interest. But I got through it and while there are a few more questions left unanswered, I think the next book will be able to take right off. I'm interested to see where this story will lead to.

After the death of her parents, Elon flees her home planet of Sidra to Truth. A mix breed of vamphyres, river troll, Sidra, and a few other races, she possesses many of the strengths and weaknesses of each race. On Truth, she makes a home with a dwarf and life is pretty good until a ship of vamphyres arrive and wreck havoc on her village which is made of mixed races of human, Sidra, and many others. Now, she must stop the invasion while learning who she is and what she is capable of.

First of all, there is some terrific world building here and the characters are very engaging. Her "Journey to Truth" is as much about herself as the world around her. It was also interesting that the main character was not gender specific until the end. Nor does it matter in the slightest. My only nitpick is that in the last quarter of the book there was a lot of "Hello," "Nice to meet you," type of dialogue. That I think could have been edited out.

But all-in-all, this is a delightful book and I look forward to the sequel.

This title is a little slow to hook me, but by the end, I was curious to see where a sequel might take it.

I adore the fantasy components of the story and how different species interbreed to create "others." Like happens in interracial relationships, the others are sometimes ostracized for not being identical to a 'pure' lineage. The main character, Elon, is female but it took me a while to realize it as the author does not fall into typical stereotypes. Rather, Elon is described for her abilities and traits from her mixed heritage.

Overall, a decently entertaining read for anyone who enjoys YA fantasy.

Thanks to NetGalley and the published for an electronic ARC to read. All opinions are my own.

You want vamphyres? You got em’! You want dwarves? No problem, Isabella has those too. You want magic that’s imbued in your very DNA? The author gives you all of it. “Elon: Journey to the Truth” is a perfect fantasy story about, you guessed it, Elon, and the strange world she enters. Elon is a vamphyre, river troll and several other creatures. This book is a quick read, but it has everything for people who are fans of supernatural, Tokein like fantasy and off world adventurers. The author writes seamlessly, and each chapter seems to be the perfect extension of the last one. Check out “Elon: Journey to the Truth” if you want it all, paranormal, adventure and fantasy.

The descriptions and characters in this book were interesting. I enjoyed meeting the various creatures and Others. I had a difficult time getting to know any of them particularly well, as the story and the characters involved tended to shift around very quickly. I would have liked to stay with the villagers for longer, and then the dwarfs. I felt like as soon as I was introduced to a new group of characters, they were left behind.
I would be interested in reading the next book in this series, to see some of the questions answered. It was a nicely written, descriptive work, and I'd definitely read the second book in the series.

Good Start to a Trilogy

Elon drew me into her life. As she learned about the other races around and within her, the mystery deepened. I enjoyed the interplay with her best friend and the communities around her. She’s a great warrior character. I also liked the messages of tolerance and appreciation your heritage woven through the story.

This book is a good start to a fantasy trilogy that made me hunger for more. But, it ends abruptly like the first act of most sagas. This book does a great job starting you on Elon’s journey but apparently a satisfying ending won’t happen until Books 2 and 3.

Part I of an intriguing fantasy/adventure trilogy, which, by extrapolation, highlights the unknown strengths hidden within ourselves when we turn our differences into personal power. Love, loyalty, and danger, all set the stage for a thriller adventure in an alien world for parts II and III.

A really unusal story with both a sci-fi feel and a paranormal feel. The main character Elon reminded me of a similar character from a YA series about vampire pirates also know as vampyres and one such female that could control herself because of how she became one. The idea that the fantastic characters like trolls and vampires living on another planet was definetly s new and unusual twist. The characters and the story were both built up in gradual way but also not predictable. Definelty a good read that keeps your attention.
