Coco Simon always dreamed of opening a cupcake bakery, but she’s afraid she would eat all the profits. When she’s not daydreaming about cupcakes, Coco edits children’s books and has written close to 100 books for children, tweens, and young adults, which is a lot less than the number of cupcakes she’s eaten. Cupcake Diaries is the first time Coco has mixed her love of cupcakes with writing.

I am living for the way Olivia is just always a bitch in these books. I know these girls are like 12 years old, but I swear to god someone just needs to throw a punch at this girl.

WARNING:SPOILERS!: I really loved this book! Fashionista Mia has always loved fashion and when a new fashion club at school starts she joins but makes sure it's ok with her cupcake club friends. But she soon realizes that her frenemy Olivia Allen is in the club which is just her luck. Olivia keeps making strict changes and rules and pretty much rules over everybody else in the club. But Mia stands up to Olivia and for what she wants. The fashion club creates a fashion show where they will model but with the Cupcake Club, her schoolwork, her chores at home, and now the fashion club, is it too much for Mia to handle? Then her dad and his girlfriend break up meanwhile her mom and Eddie are fighting! She thinks that Mom and Eddie are going to split up just like how her Mom and Dad did. So she talks to them and finds out that they are not going to split up and that married couples just fight sometimes. Now its time for the fashion show! Everything is going wrong! There are models out sick, DJ's at practice, and the leader is late. But the cupcake club is here to save the day with cupcakes and more! I wont reread this book cause I have so many books left on my TBR pile but I did really enjoy it. I recommend for ages 6+.

The theme of the story is commitment Mia and some other girls are forming a fashion club but, Olivia is in it. I am sure you can already imagine what horrible things she will do. They choose who is a treasure, president, vice president, et. Mia misses a cupcake meeting because the meeting is on Wednesdays...

“‘But you know, sometimes it’s okay to ask for help. You don’t have to fix everything by yourself.’”

Mia joins her friend Beth’s new fashion club, but the whole thing is a mess because Beth does not have leadership qualities and is wishy-washy. Meanwhile, Mia’s dad and Lynne broke up, and Mia is kind of sad about not seeing little Ethan anymore. Her mom and Eddie are having arguments, and she feels responsible somehow, so she tries to be the perfect child.

These books go fast! I just reread 21 of them and the next thirteen or so are all new for me. I’ve been noticing throughout these books how these girls are quite the good examples and aren’t allowed to date or even preheat the oven…

This book is a realistic fiction book. I believe this book is good for girls in 4th-5th grade. This book is about a girl named Mia who is joining a fashion club at school though she already belongs to another club. She than finds out that doing two things at once is a little more than what she planned for. I rated this book with five stars because it teaches children at a young age that you need to be organized and set good goals before you jump into something just like how Mia jumped into two clubs at one time. I believe this book is appealing to young girls mainly more than young boys because it talks a lot about fashion and what girl doesn't like fashion. I believe however this book still is good for any young reader because it shows them that everyone struggles with day to day activities just like Mia is. When teaching this to children I would have them place their selves in Mias shoes and ask them what they would have done differently. Also, I would ask them if they every tried to do two things at one time and see if it went as they had hoped.

Mia loves design and fashion. She helps with the design elements in the cupcake business she runs with her friends. But when a fashion club is started she decides to see if she can juggle the cupcake business, fashion club, school, and all of her other activities. Problems arise in both her home and school life that might ruin everything she has worked so hard for.

The art work is whimsical and helps give the feel of a diary. The author has written a series that will definitely appeal to the middle school girls. Each book in the series is a stand alone story, but each book showcases a different girl in the cupcake club. Every young girl will be able to find a character to relate to. The characters deal with real life issues and the resolutions are written in a way that young girls can relate to. The importance of organization, family, and friends is showcased in the story.

I received this book free of charge from Children's Lit in exchange for my honest review.

I liked this book, but less than other cupcake diary books I've read. Parts of the plot weren't my favorite. Olivia Allen tries to make her fashion club miserable. Well? That didn't do much for me. Mia, going to countless meetings of the fashion club, always the same deal. Not my favorite. But I did love Mia's character. She is so positive and fashion forward. She had a really bubbly personality. I also loved how Mia's stepdad and Mia's mom were arguing, which Mia took as a bad sign, and thought it was her fault. The way this turned out in the end was really great. I also liked seeing Mia balancing her time between the cupcake club and the fashion club. For those two pieces I would give the book 4.5 stars. But again, the fashion club, the main part of this book, and I didn't like it. I think that the books about Katie are generally better, but I still enjoyed this book. Coco Simon is a great author!

Mia joins a fashion club at school and soon realises that being part of two clubs is a lot harder than she thought. One club runs smoothly and the other is all over the place with nobody taking any sort of control. Mia Fashion Plates and Cupcakes is a good book for middle grade readers. I quite enjoy these books, some are better than others of course. I come away craving cupcakes and often feel inspired to bake a batch myself.

I am still loving this series! In this installment, Mia must divide her time between The Cupcakers and the new fashion club that she helped start. There are choices that she has to make and there are other issues in her personal life that she must face. She has her besties to help her navigate it all.
Keep up the good work Ms. Simon.

I love this series! I like to compare "Cupcake Diaries" to "The Baby-Sitter's Club" of my childhood. This book is a lot like "Claudia and the New Girl," but with less drama.
