The Projects Made Me

Ten years ago Alaysia “Honey” Sterling thought she was living her best life to the fullest. With senior year dwindling down, she had dreams of going to culinary arts school to become a pastry chef. She dreamed of opening a small inn with a cafe. She had support from her family and with her 3 best friends Derek, Danielle, and Brandon by her side, they were all on the horizon to do great things. That was until tragedy struck the night of their graduation. The loss caused more damage than anyone could imagine, leaving behind a whirlwind of chaos. With friends turned foe, decades of old buried secrets resurfaced, who could she trust? Will Alaysia be able to again?

With a full scholarship to play football, Derek knew his life was on the right track. 6'3 200lbs with dreads down to the center of his back, he knew he was the man. Girls and grown women never hesitated to let the ebony Adonis know it to. As shallow as they were, Derek was the complete opposite. He went out out of his way to never live up to those stereotypes that most football players were labeled. Besides his heart belonged to his dream girl with cognac colored eyes and wild curly hair. With every intention on proposing to her on graduation night but due to unforeseen loss, life as he knew it would change.

Daniella “Cinny” is the definition of a party girl. Everyone called her Cinny because of the red undertones that were so pronounced in her complexion. She always told it like was and never sugar coated anything. Daniella wanted to go to school for fashion but with 2 headstrong parents, who didn't believe fashion was a good career she knew it was either nursing or medical school. With grades good enough to get into one of the top design schools in New York, the path was looking very bright. She figured she'll lie to her parents about her major until she couldn't any longer until the unthinkable happened leaving her with so many unanswered questions.
Brandon lived by one motto and that's only the strong survive. Why should he believe in anything else when this is all that his father preached, literally this and the power of the Almighty above. Yes he grew up as the preacher's kid but preaching wasn't on his agenda. Basketball and technology were his passions and he had every intent on cashing in his goals. What happens when those close to him turn out not to be who he thought?
