New York Times #1 bestselling authors of Teaching Your Children Values and relationship experts Richard and Linda Eyre explore the eight most common myths about marriage and the truth about how to have a successful and fulfilling marriage.
Exploring equality versus synergy, completion versus individual quest, harmony versus productive debate, a test drive versus constant commitment, and more, the Eyres show that popular opinions and behaviors toward successful marriages actually reduce the chance of marriage fulfillment.
Drawing on more than fifty years of marriage and hundreds of interviews across the world, The 8 Myths of Marriaging is a must-read book for anyone considering marriage or currently nurturing their marriage of many years.
Writers, lecturers, and grassroots and media catalysts, Linda and Richard Eyre's mission statement: "Our vision is to FORTIFY FAMILIES by celebrating commitment, popularizing parenting, glorifying grandparenting, bolstering balance, and validating values." Their latest efforts in these directions are their new books (The Happy Family [St. Martins Press], Empty Nest Parenting [Bookcraft], and The Book of Nurturing [McGraw Hill]) and their regular appearances on The CBS Early Show. Richard's new book, The Three Deceivers: How our obsessions with ownership, control and independence are ruining the quality of our lives, will be published next year.
Richard is president of a management consulting company and a ranked senior tennis player. He was a "mission president" for his church in London, and a candidate for Governor of Utah.
Richard and Linda have nine children (one of every kind) and live in Washington, D.C. and Salt Lake City.
Good layout. I like the myths verses reality parts. Wish it was easier to apply. Favorite take away is using the word marriage as a verb. Marriaging is hard and takes constant adjustments and attention. The pay off is worth it.
This was a book I appreciated for its candid approach to the realities of couples throughout different phases of their marriages. Written by a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, they had lots of incite & experiences to share, and being prolific authors, it was well-written. Especially appreciated, was that they dispelled some of the lies we’re being told, including 50% of marriages failing in America, and what would happen if you could magically “fix” your spouse’s annoying habits… 🫠 So, in case anyone is looking for some seasoned marital advice for our day ‘n age… here’s a good option!
