Fans of NoSleep and Creepypasta will love this spine-tingling short tale... A student accidentally stumbles upon a weird news site on the dark web and discovers that it is far more insidious than it seems...
Since young, Kelvin has always been fascinated with the unknown and when it comes to fiction, no other genre has intrigued him more than horror. He chooses to embrace his fears by penning them down and serving them to the world in the form of short stories and books.
He is heavily inspired by the subreddit NoSleep and authors like Stephen King, Koji Suzuki, Mark Z. Danielewski and Iain Rob Wright.
By day, Kelvin is a digital marketer and when he is not writing, he tends to find himself indulging in video games, having a couple of beers with a few good friends and just lazing around the house in general.
This wasn't a bad story, I really enjoyed it even though it wasn't that long. It is an easy read, however the end fell short and lacking. All of the sudden the story just stopped..... only it was at a point where the real horror could have started. This book gets 3 points.
Not bad! The author mentions being inspired by creepypasta and r/NoSleep, and you can definitely feel those influences in the story (which is a good thing to me, as I never get tired of either of those areas of horror shorts). I think the story could've benefited from being longer, but the overall premise was intriguing and fun and I would more than likely pick up more work from Kelvin Teo in the future.
Some reasons for 2 stars: - I understand it is a short novel. However, there is an abrupt ending. -No explanation of how; Instead of trying to promote the authors other works. It should have better clean this up.
Anything that's not in the description would be a spoiler. The description has just enough information not to spoil anything, but if you're familiar with creepy stories found on the internet, you know what to expect. Mostly. I'd like to read a longer version of this story.
I'm going to give this short story a 3.5. When I downloaded this short story I didn't really know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised with the story as it was creative and not like a typical "dark web" story. The ending felt really lack-luster and I felt that it just kind of ended abruptly. This was a quick read and better than I thought it would be.
I guess I just didn't get the point of this. It's kind of your typical creepypasta, but I didn't find it very scary, very well-written, or very fun. I think it ended up being a bit too short for its own good, and left off quite abruptly. The main character also starts the story by victim blaming his abused mother, which I hated. Besides the concept, there wasn't much that was redeemable about this imo.
All I can say is, well, ask is- "Is this a full length book somewhere????" Awesome short story but I need a full length book in my life with this plot! I had never read this author and was looking for short stories to help my reading challenge (yeah cheating I know but hey...)and came across this free short story. I'm hooked and need this author in my life now! Score because it was free!
Damn, what a cliff-hanger this short story left us readers!!! I’m going to download Jackie Is Gone. I highly recommend this book, my best friend told me about it and I’m so glad she did.
The cover caught my attention and then the title. Oooo the dark web. Plus...I was looking for a little horror and a quick read. I feel like I've been bored the last bit.
Okay - the story follows a student who loves the dark web. He is the techy sort. Well...he stumbles upon something dark and sinister that will shake the foundations of his small town.
First...you big dummy! The dark web is a terrible place! DO NOT VENTURE! Bad! *spray character with water bottle*
Second...what did you think was going to happen when you connected the dots and got the cops involved? Fool.
But yes, this was did have some creepiness. Sure it is a horror, but it does remind me of those creepy YouTube videos that have been haunting the site. Good stuff, but creepy. This was a small snipbit of a story that could really be something.
I hope there is more. A follow-up. Maybe a continuation. I would love to see this idea to expand and be scarier!
Overall, not a bad short story. If you like creepy, you'll enjoy this quick read. I want more! A nice intro to some creepy stuff for sure. I'll give this 3 stars.
I always like to find new authors to enjoy and lately I’m reading more horror books, which I had never really bothered with before (Why not? No idea!). This short story intrigued me when I found it. It’s straight forward and simple then things get sinister. For a good short story to really, really work for me I have to feel like there could have been more of it and this is one of those such stories. If Kelvin Teo had made a novel based on this I think it could have worked and been really good. As a short it’s a short sharp blast of darkness that’s entertaining and a joy to read. As for whether I’ve found an author I’d read more of? Definitely.
a teen who likes exploring the dark web bites off a bit more than they can chew. >:D
I liked it!
It was short, only about 16 pages, but I like short stories. :D especially horror ones. This fast, creepy little read, perfect for horror fans looking for quick stories. :D I liked the ending. I bet the author could do a lot with this idea. maybe a whole little series of shorts. that'd be neat.
Very short get right to the point read. I REALLY enjoyed the plot, I just wish I felt it was complete; even a short story should have a beginning a middle and an end...closure. This read more like a prelude and now you must pay $9.99 to see how it ends.😂 I need to know what happened, how it was able to happen and how to stop it. I am interested in reading something else from Kelvon Teo.
I realize that a short story, by definition, is short, and, therefore, does not leave much space for character development. However, that doesn't mean the author cannot provide a brief sketch of the people, places and things in the story. I did like the plot twist at the end, though. Pleasant read, but pleasant isn't what I look for in a horror story.
I love the way the "dark web" is used in this story. Being an author of short stories, I read a lot of the same. One has to keep up with the competition. 😌 I like to add a bit of realism to my stories, a characteristic I found very enlightening in this one. A good read for anyone who likes "feeling" a story long after it's read. Good job Kelvin! Looking forward to reading more.
Young guy goes to the dark web, and finds a story about a murder. It was dated 3 days in advance. Then, he and his friend, find another one. They tell her Dad, who is a detective, and stopped it. The story changed though....
This was so badly written it was kinda funny. It was only a few pages long but it went on forever. The tenses were all messed up and all over the place, it was suspenseful and the twist was not a twist. No thanks.
This is a good creepypasta/nosleep story, and the next installment will pull me in deeper, I'm sure. Just my opinion here, but because of the length, I think this would be better as part of a collection or anthology.
The book didn't take long to read, the story was interesting and well written, it will scare you just enough to keep reading and make you think this could be really happening, read it and see for yourself.
I usually hate to read books written in present tense. It throws me off. Somehow, for this story it works. The story left ended on a cliffhanger. Loved it!
