Off Screen #9

Scene Change

Rate this book
Life is about to take a dramatic turn for Emma Bronson and Addison Blake. While Addison is overseeing the production of another hit TV show, On Screen, Emma has been keeping residence at her parents’ home in Kansas. Emma is overseeing the progress on a new home the couple is building in her hometown. Emma is expecting their third child, and the separation has given both women the time to think about the future and what each is hoping it might hold. Addison has some unique ideas about the future; ideas Emma desperately wants to embrace but fears Addison might regret. The pair must wade through their fears, their dreams, and their insecurities to find the way forward. Scene Change is the ninth installment of the Off Screen Series. It follows the lives of a popular television actress and her writer wife as they traverse the sometimes amusing, many times challenging landscape of Hollywood notoriety and family.

Let me start by saying I love this series. I have reread them a few times and absolutely love Emma and Addy. This latest addition to the series was not my favorite and I felt it didnt really add anything to the series. I mean it adds Nkah but that whole pregnancy seemed to be a secondary thought. I mean it seemed the book was really about Addy and Emma reconnecting but honestly it never felt like they were not...connected that is. I get it, sometimes things get put on a back burner for other things and it's good to reestablish things but that's all this book felt like. There were bigger issues and I felt more interesting things that could have should have been the focus. Like maybe all the pregnancy? Or even the actual birthing process? Possibly even have the kids more active because I really did enjoy Vicki and Hannah. This one just felt lacking to me.

Fabulous

It’s along while since I read the series but it didn’t take long to be thrown into family life again. Loved it, I really love the characters.
Don’t leave it so long until the next one.

A lovely ending for the Off Screen novel/novella series. I think I benefited from having the entire series finished so I could read one book after another without waiting long periods between. I’m assuming this is a finished series as the author signed off with “The End” (2019) instead of to be continued. I have loved Emma and Addy’s romance, and watching their family grow. This one focuses on them making decisions for the next stage of their life. It also highlights the importance of reconnecting with each other and having balance in their family and career life. It is a good ending spot but should the author revisit them I will gladly read more. I finished J.A. Armstrong’s four different novel/novella series and am not sure which is my favorite. I will have to enjoy some of her stand alone books until I see she writes more.

Everything is fine in Kansas.

A good check-in with Addison and Emma Blake. The family is growing and there is potential for new adventures. This book was short and it seemed the women conversed in half sentences. Hope to read more of them soon.

The Blakes get ready for a new chapter in their lives

“Anything worthwhile is terrifying at some point. It means change. It means risk.”

The fade-to-black Hollywood ending to a romantic love story that began with a spilt cup of coffee, a declaration-of-love script & a tv series set.

Its an entertaining, well-written story with intriguing & likeable characters, some hot scenes as the characters have grown from single women trying to find their place in the film industry to mature, married couples raising children & careers that'll lead the way for others.

I like both Addy and Emma, and have always thought highly of most of J.A. Armstrong's series so I was expecting a lot from this book. Maybe I shouldn't have read it after an exciting adventure book? I never thought I'd say this, ever, but the sex scenes were so long winded. I just wanted to story on the family and where they were going to end up and how the kids reacted to everything, and how did they get King to Kansas? By plane or did they drive? I don't know... I wanted more.

Tender & Funny!!

I love this series so much! I enjoy watching Emma & Addie's lives & their families grow. The changes and decisions they make along the way to benefit all those they love so much shows just how selfless they both are . The changes they need to make now to ensure they are both satisfied in love, life & careers are complicated. Together the deep of their emotional connection, love & respect they have for each other is expressed so well in this book. The tenderness of the love they share is so heart warming. Their daughter Vickie is a mix of both mom's and has you chuckling quite often. I look forward to the next book as they all continue to grow as individuals & family while also changing up their professional careers.

Many changes in this one!

This episode is very tender and so funny. As Emma and Addy's family grows, many important changes take place. The tender passion between the moms is very heartwarming and feels organically authentic. This kind of writing is truly a speciality that JA has perfected along with her voice of children. Oh my gosh, daughter Vicki is priceless! I anxiously await the next installment!

Fabulous

Just finished the latest in the series (don’t know if it’s the last one) However, as usual JA Armstrong writes a smasher. I love her books, Emma & Addison and their adventure with family, friends & careers in this one. Also a tad spicier than previous journeys. You won’t regret reading this one what so ever.

Decisions

The continuing story of Addison and Emma did not disappoint. They had their share of problems but love can conquer all. But with a house full of women, you know drama can be in the mix. The new addition to the family can change everything. Read their story. Enjoy it as much as I did.

I really enjoy this series. This episode was very enjoyable, but I wanted more substance between the minor characters and not just the sex between the main characters. I've started to just skip the sex scenes, which seems to be the majority of the book. It gets old. I love all of these characters.

4 stars. I liked this installment. It actually had a plot so that was great. Addy, Emma and their little family are so precious and I love them it’s just been the plots and repetitiveness that have been letting me down with this series. This was good though and omg y’all Tam and Christie are parents! I was shocked. I love those two so much. Fingers crossed that book ten will be good as well.

Excellent!

I loved Scene Change. This is Book nine in the Off Screen series. It helps if you read some or all of the others first. Great catching up with Emma, Addison and their growing family.

Dialogue a bit confusing

The storyline was great but the way the characters sometimes verbally interacted was a bit confusing. It was as though two intelligent adults could not complete sentences. Other than that the story was well developed.

I really like the playfulness of these characters, however the seriousness they always find a way to laugh. Another great book, by JA.

What a great series this 9 book journey is. Loved every minute from start to finish. I am so grateful to Ms Armstrong for all of her novels. I've become a staunch and loyal fan. I've recommended two series of books to an accomplished screen writer, and friend of mine. I don't hesitate to share this very talented author to anyone and everyone who enjoys reading.
