Found Magic

Rate this book
A reformed-ish bad boy. A girl who's never had a home. The power of Pagan gods at their fingertips.

Giselle Ryder only knows a life of loneliness and loss—until she inherits her mother’s forbidden Freyja godstone. Her only wish? Use Freyja’s powers to make the world better than her parents left it. That and pass her freshman year of college.

Things get complicated when into her English class strolls Rafael Marquez, the famous lead singer for Rage Riot and the man she has a desperate crush on because his music saved her life. He’s a distraction she doesn’t need—but desperately wants.

When she fumbles a simple mission, she's aided by newbie godstone user Huehuecoyotl—tall, dark, and determined to be her sidekick. He even drops serious cash on a lair for them and promises to never try to see who she is behind Freyja's mask. If she accepts his bargain, though, she’s stuck training a bard who’s too happy-go-lucky for his own good—and too flirty for hers.

If she doesn’t, they’re on their own with a trio of Irish battle goddesses wreaking havoc in town… and a buried secret from her dead parents’ past is about to explode.

The Trickster's Drum is the first book in a five part series of adventure, romance, and—warning!—cliffhangers. Part 2 will be available for sale and in KU on August 22.

Incredible!!

This is a well-written, unique urban fantasy adventure with a nerdy, independent, funny lead female that will steal your heart. The magic were interesting, the characters have beautiful depth, there's slow-burn romance, and kick-butt fight scenes! Fantastic, I just loved this!

Freaking Incredible Take on Mythology Made Modern!!

"And I can want you, need you, love you with all that’s in me. But you should go. Don’t want your touch without your heart."

Oh my GOSH - I'm trying to write a review for Found Magic, book one of Jax Garren's Godstones series, but ALL I WANT TO DO IS RACE TO GO READ BOOK TWO!!!

Found Magic introduces us to a world where ancient gods and deities can be channeled by Conduits - Giselle, a former foster child turned college student, happens to be one of them. Channeling Freyja, the ancient Norse goddess, to become a modern day community protector in the sticky Texas heat and recover lost Godstones before they fall into the hands of the government, is more dangerous than it sounds. Mostly because the punishment for being caught with a Godstone is life behind bars - if you're lucky enough to live. Giselle's mother certainly wasn't. So when her newest acquisition bounces to the feet of her musical idol, Rafael, after she's ambushed, Giselle should have suspected divine intervention.

Garren introduces us to a fantastical and exhilarating blend of ancient gods and modern mayhem - Giselle and Rafael's story twists and writhes with burning attraction and the desperate desire to belong - to someone, somewhere, in someway; to be seen and valued and above all to make a difference.

If you love fantastical stories of ancient gods and mythology made modern, of romance and friendship that pushes and pulls between 'will they/won't they' and 'YOU'RE SO CLOSE! JUST TELL THEM!' and never knowing who to trust, you will absolutely LOVE Found Magic and the Godstones series!

OK - I've GOT to go read book two now because I AM DYING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!

I loved this book! There are only a few authors I am ok with cliffhangers with and Jax Garren is one of them. I can’t wait for the next book! This book has all the things I look for in my stories from Jax. A building romance, a mystery, a lot of new information on Gods and Goddesses this time not just Norse, and a little violence. I loved Rafael and Giselle and can not wait to read more of what will happen with them. This has epic love written all over it! What a great start to a new series!

3.5 Stars. If you're looking for modern twist on the myths of gods and goddesses then this is the book for you. An interesting premise is quickly established, with action and adventure throughout. The foundation for an epic love story is also laid and I look forward to the next book. There is a cliffhanger; however, the next book comes out fairly quickly.

PNR/UF (the romance is spread across the several books). This was so much fun! Unique magic system, tough heroine and bad-boy musician hero, plus one of my favourite tropes: falling in love with both the superhero and the secret identity at the same time. (And there's a legit reason why they don't recognize each other IRL). Great banter. Can't wait to read more!
