Dropping this manga. Been a long time since I read the last volume and I was very confused, had to reread some chapters of vol 6 but still, things didn’t make much sense. This installment wasn’t as good as the rest.

But the reason I can’t continue anymore is because of the children’s sexualization/fetishization. It’s simply too much, I forgot how perverted this manga can get and I can stomach no more.

I will watch any future anime adaptation because the idea behind this manga is GREAT. The drawings are also well done. It really has potential but I can’t excuse these unacceptable additions.

This right here, this is peak MiA.

While Reg tries to find his way back from his meeting with Faputa, Riko finds herself alone in the Village of the Hollows. After a brief but frightening encounter with some back-alley Hollows, she finds something of a guide in Maaa, the bizarre floppy-butted Hollow that suffered for hurting Meinya previously. Undaunted by the bizarre residents, Riko wanders about the village with Maaa in tow, looking for her friends...and of course finding anything but.

Welp, I guess V.6 was just a taster for how truly, weirdly fleshy Tsukushi's conception of reality is. I lost count of the number of times I was utterly terrified for Riko as she approached some nightmare-space, only to have my expectations overturned by her openness to experience. The Village of the Hollows continues to be a bizarre subterranean odyssey, rife with mystery, body horror, and a sense of reality-warping forces just underneath. The "Luring" sequence in particular is a tour de force of community under siege by monster that's impossible to not be captivated by. And Tsukushi introduces even more characters who only deepen the mystery and intrigue of his world!

Of course, there's the usual bits where one might feel the author goes a bit far in terms of bizarrity. In particular there's a living toilet that...I won't even try to get into describing. It's that gross. But it's also fascinating how much Tsukushi seems to want to challenge the reader's conception of normalcy. What's normal for the hollows is utterly grotesque by our average human standards. Yet most if not all of them were once human themselves, and have a clear community and even an economy. It was an interesting experience for me to become habituated and even comforted by their bubblegum-nightmare appearances.

Absolutely one of the weirder reads in modern manga. Can't wait for more!

one of the better volumes in terms of character development. i really loved vueko and her design, and i like that shes NORMAL. UNLIKE SOME ADULTS IN THIS SERIES. however during the monster fight scenes it was hard to understand what was happening due to a lack of action lines. also, the crayon style is great normally, but it is hard to make out a lot during scenes with lots of action because of how blurry and smudged the lines are.
so, 3/5 this volume.

Guys, I'm gonna be real, I just don't care anymore. The action sequences were fine, but the amount of doom and gloom just isn't doing it for me. I will say that Riko's character development really shines in this volume, so that's a plus. Aside from that, though, I just don't care.

im sorry mah boi, that was not a sword taken from intestines. it was dick. retrieved out of ass. yes i enjoy the story, but its sometimes unnecessarily perverted and you have to try *REALLY* hard not to see it.
i am also very much torn and twisted if i want to keep reading this. the idea and story itself is amazing. but it gets more and more unsettling with the children pornography. others habe mentioned and explained it already and it just doesnt sit right. there is absolutely no need for it. in the beginning i thought it was a kind of joke that i just didnt think was funny, when children nudity was mentioned, but its getting more and more graphic and i.. no.. just no.

I feel like the story has gotten convoluted, I don’t appreciate it.
Also the tentacle p*rn scene featuring our preteen protagonist left a bad taste in my mouth.
Take Shobo character design work is stellar, I adore how new characters look, so unique and creative, especially “monsters” design. Unfortunately the plot and world-building is basically piling up on stuff. Plus torture p*rny feel never leaves these books.

Apparently, the author lost interest in the story he started out to tell, so he's drifting off into a bunch of other, far less interesting stories. Perhaps he'll return to the starting story in volume 74, but he'll do so without me. Sadly, I bought volume 8, so I'll read it. Baring an amazing improvement, I'll not be looking for volume 9.

this manga would be so cool if there wasn’t a picture of the twelve year old protagonist without her shirt on in the front cover but of course there is. the lore of the world is amazing and the violence and gore don’t bother me at all but there is noooooo reason for these full color illustrations of partially naked children that are in basically every volume.

I was set to give this volume three stars for awhile, because most of it was, paradoxically, both very info-dumpy and kind of confusing. There are a significant number of new characters introduced, and they talk a lot about a lot of different things, but much of it is so specific to the city and its way of operating, that it can be easy for it to feel a bit meandering. It was neat to see Riko learn some of the language, but the whole thing with Vueko felt very hazy (until the end, where her identity starts to take on a new importance). But beyond that, there's...I don't want to spoil anything, but a character shows up, who I never thought we would see again--and the explanation for how and why doesn't entirely feel satisfying. Especially given the ramifications it has. I can't really say more than that.

It's really the last 20 pages or so that bumped this volume up a star. Vueko sheds some light on the city and its history, and Faputa continues to be a standout character for just how utterly alien she is in her outlook, actions, and priorities. After some flailing around, this volume pulls itself together, and suggests that things are about to get very, very ugly.

A great story and manga, or would be if not for the fact that the author is a full p*d*ph*le. The manga features some disturbing and/or gross depictions of children right in your face from time to time (which, in case anyone wonders, do not add anything to the deeper meaning of the story and come literally out of nowhere). Do not read if not ready to scroll past such imagery, and please do not buy. A censored version is available on reddit.

Whew, what a crazy volume. Spoilers ahead.

Riko continues hunting for both Reg and Nananchi.

Reg meets another robotic being and referred to them both as "Interference Units", Reg being one who can easily travel between levels. It warns Reg that Faputa has a bad plan coming.

Riko meets more villagers, including several who communicate in her language. Wazu is one of the 3 sages and is hilarious, he enjoys High fives. The restaurant owner teachers Riko some of the language.

Romo ventures into some depths, a sticky sort of jail, and retrieves Vueko, who turns out to be one of the original cave Raiders that discovered the Golden City. She was jailed because she did not agree with what the others wanted to do regarding the lair they found themselves stuck upon because back then they were unaware they couldn't travel back up one layer.

She has a vast knowledge about what is going on above because of some weird sticky sensors attached to her. Nananchi apparently sold herself to Belaf, another of the three stages. Apparently this one had met Mitty before and basically created a clone of her using her own body. When Nananchi saw this she sold herself so she could stay with Mitty. In order for Riko to take both N&M from Belaf she needs to provide something of equal value.

A huge creature is lured to the village and starts to wreak havoc, destroying everything and eating everyone. Riko gets her whistle back and defeats the creature with the help of others.

Reg finally returns as the whistle is blown and helps them finish defeating the creature.

Vueko tells them that the only thing of value that they could provide to get their friends back would be something from Faputa. V also treks them her backstory and expresses that it is very important that no one realizes her identity.

Reg returns to Faputa who gives up her own body parts as long as he keeps his promise to help her. The promise was something he made before he lost his memory and he is not sure that he will be able to do it and she doesn't want to tell him at first and evades the question but apparently it was to eradicate everyone.

The entire Hollow Village is creepy af.

Comparing this to the anime, the backstory of the Hollow Village isn’t told immediately. We don’t even get a glimpse of our past characters until we meet them— Wazukan, Belaf, Vueko. This story is still told in our main protagonists point of view: Reg and Riko with a sprinkle of Nanachi. With that being said, we’re completely in the dark until Vueko explains and that isn’t even in this volume.

Looking at it beyond comparing to the anime, it is shrouded with mystery so it does keep the reader intrigued.

It's been a while since I've read this series so I am not exactly sure what's happening in this volume. Once again there is such a blatant focus on bodily evacuations I can only assume it's fetish material. There's even a sentient toilet. That being said, the world-building is unlike anything I've read before. So much thought has been put into the characters, their personalities, their anatomy, their function within the village, I can only imagine the amount of time it takes to make something like this.

This volume was meh. I'm not really fond of the village story and I feel like the author has abandoned the original plot for a while now. It's ok to have subplots like these, but they should be integrated into the original plot in a way that feels natural.
I'm also not that much bothered by the gore anymore because it happens every chapter now, and I don't think I like that choice. We'll see in the next volume whether I carry on with the story or dnf it. I don't want the perfect picture of it to be distorted in my head, so if I find the next part silly, I'll drop it.

The first chapter of this is obscenely graphic in my opinion and should've been toned down or removed. It's not like some of its new to the series, but the author really pushed the envelope here. This volumes delves a lot into worldbuilding and introducing new characters. That being said I'm starting to feel a little less invested with most of them. Although Faputa crying over Reg's amnesia is so tragic. So I'd say the interactions between her and Reg are the highlight here.

About:
Riko finds out that Reg and Nanachi have gone off somewhere

Review:
This volume is probably my least favourite. If I could tear out or erase some panels I would because the damn "art" of naked kids is stupid. Low rating for that. Not only that the story was a bit .. thrown in? The story just felt half -assed if I'm honest. But I do want to learn more about Faputa and Reg.

Notes: Horror with unnecessary child nudity

The story is interesting, the abyss is fascinating, the art is not at all a style I like but is incredibly well done and there is so much beautiful detail. There is a bit of oddly placed child nudity that makes me uncomfortable but it’s not so often so I just push past it.

So many things were oddly phallic in this one. But Vueko’s story is fascinating.

Meh. Almost nothing happened in this one. I'm ready for them to continue their descent. The village is interesting but the stakes suddenly seem very low and the intense emotional arcs have completely disappeared. The action is difficult to follow, and honestly, the only reason I'm still reading is because of the characters. If the plot doesn't pick back up soon, I might drop the series entirely.

Ya estoy en un punto en el cual me aterra pero me fascina esta historia. A la par de hacerme sentir genuinamente incómodo, casi demasiado.

Necesito saber que pasa, tal vez no ahora, debo procesarlo, pero si pronto.

All levels of crazypants and, on occasion, without pants. I am deducting one star for putting Mitty in a pot and calling her "Pot Mitty". Actually, that's probably the least disturbing thing that happened in this volume.

Another bizarre volume (in a good way). The mystery of the city at the sixth layer of the abyss starts to unfold, and, unsurprisingly, it's darker than expected.

This one keeps the quality, with some good reveals, even if the events happening aren't as big as some of the previous volumes.
