Soon his Academy career was in tatters. Owen is offered one final chance to make a difference – if he can conquer the hate boiling inside him. Redemption

Clad in Steel has redeemed this series. It has some cameo appearances of characters we know from previous books but introduces some new ones too. The MC is Owen McInness a student who sees his parents shot dead in front of his eyes by a Naga. This occurred before the bugs came on the scene (there’s no way I’m attempting their Naga name! LOL!). Owen doesn’t realise how the trauma had affected him and started to experience uncontrollable rages and getting involved in fights with other cadets. It came to a point where he is expelled from the Academy (despite being top of his year) and realises that he’ll never be a Space Force officer. It takes time for him to understand that officers cannot give in to anger. At his lowest he is given another chance; to become a mech pilot. Not everyone wants him there but he is determined not to lose this chance too and he is fortunate to find friends in his platoon who are prepared to help him. This young man’s journey to being the person that his parents would have approved of is not an easy one and coming face to face with a Naga is nearly the end of him so, buckle up and settle in for a very good read. It ended too quickly for me but I look forward to book 11!

This was a very good story. Why it’s part of the Satori series is beyond me. There is only one small mention of the Satori anywhere in this book. I think the author needs to just write books without using the Satori tag as the previous two books have not involved the Satori at all. I did like the stories of the Starship Satori, but it’s gone and these book are about something entirely different.

We start his one with an Academy Cadet who is in trouble. Owen Mcinness faces a disciplinary board that will determine his future in the Academy. As a Senior, Mcinness was close to graduation and he was tops in his class. He has driven himself relentlessly since getting the opportunity to fulfill his ultimate goal and that was to get into space. The Academy would have converted him into a fine, decent military officer and maybe a pilots billet in the Air Force. He could have even had a good shot of becoming a starship fighter pilot or of even commanding his own starship into battle.

But now, he’s dismissed from the Academy. Yep, thrown out. He could have faced some hard time in a federal prison, but his exemplary record and the circumstances of his disciplinary board saved him from that fate. But not by much. Own Mcinness has a temper; one that he cannot control. It had almost gotten him into trouble in several other instances, but this latest one was a serious out-of-control display that would not be tolerated in a future Air Force officer.

So, what was he to do? His parents had been killed while he was very young. He was there when it happened. That experience has been bottled up in him for a long time. It spills forth with his fury and often gets him into serious trouble. Oh, he has a right to get mad, but not to take the actions his fury pushes him to do.

Then he gets a second chance. A chance that might get him into space, but might also get his mind straight so he can finally control his raging temper. He had better get it under control because he’s going to face the same aliens that killed his parents. but under very different circumstances.

Good book, but I think this story ends here. Not sure how they could go on with Owen Mcinness, but sci-fi writers can just about do anything.

Heroic

The story telling is great. Science? Practically nill. Editing Argh! I still feel the story is worth a five, but sometimes you're wondering what was intended. When he said around, did he mean about? What about that mixup where he can't figure out if he's speaking in the third person or the first person, and has him and I side by side talking about the same person? Still, the story talks about a cashiered AFA cadet who has good cause to hate the Naga, and has anger issues. Really should study up on what you're writing about. Ain't no way a cadet is going to walk from the dorm to the front gate at the AFA. Anyway, he gets picked up by the general to be specially trained in armor. Kind of like the tv show "Branded" crossed with James Bond. Well he gets early graduation to do a rescue mission. I guess it's no big reveal that he's successful.

This author is one fantastic story teller!

Boy can this guy tell a story, or can this guy tell a story? What? You havent read this. OMG! What are you doing wasting your time reading this? Go get the book. Get the series, You wont regret it. You know how in a series there's always one book, sometimes more that arent quite as good as the rest? Well not with this series. Every book has been a hard to put down page turner, with a fast paced story line, well written, charismatic characters, and the most important feature they get you emotionally involved. That last feature is the one that makes the difference between a good book and a GREAT book. The second kind are few and far between.

I literally cried at the ending of this book. It was that touching & that good!

This book takes the prize, in my mind, for featuring the most amazing character growth of any book that I have ever read. The growth of the main character is simply mind boggling! Throw in a great plot, mind blowing action, horrifying evil aliens and you have one incredibly awesome book. And, not only that, but it's the 10th book in a great series. So, do yourself a favor and read this book and read the entire series. You WILL be glad that you did!

Also, please keep up the fantastic writing, Kevin, as I can hardly wait to start reading book 11 in this unbelievably great series. :)

Normally I would not give this book a four star rating because it has a be continued… But it is very good.

I still enjoyed the characters in this book, even though there were very few main characters. There was plenty of action during the middle and ending of the book. The main protagonist was able to grow and become something better than he was. You will enjoy this book even though you have to wait for the next book or read the next book for the continuance.

Great episode

This is not an episode about the Satori and her crew but covers the effects of the war on one citizen on earth and how he faces the terrors of war becomes a better person.

I enjoyed it

Rollicking spaghetti western set in space, it takes itself just serious enough. This book is part of a series, evidently volume 10, I don't recall having read the other nine and this one worked well by itself.

Definitely need to Read

Clad in Steel was very well written and hard to read at the same time. The story flowed but to read about the loss and pain that Mac felt, it cut deep. Tears fell while reading this but the outcome made it all worthwhile.

Great Action

A new set of characters and a great addition in the mech warriors archetypal scifi.
This was well built up to start a new chapter in the Satori series and will make great reading as this chapter progresses further on.

In this 10th novel of the series, McLaughlin introduces us to a new character, Owen McInness. Owen watched his parents die at the hands of a Naga during the attempted invasion of Earth. He has lived with anger and revenge as his motivation to reach the stars. But now, the Naga have become allies of the humans as they battle an even more dangerous foe.
This book was a little different as it showed us a glimpse of the young Owen during his childhood and through his early military career. McLaughlin paid attention to the development of McInness as a character, which I enjoyed. There was still a bunch of shoot-em-up adventure but, for me, I most liked the interaction between Owen and Garul.
