This series just gets better and better, particularly because of Hope’s best friend and her kids. Don’t get me wrong: Hope is wonderful in her own right, but whenever Katie and her kids are around, hilarity ensues, and it elevates the series. The mysteries are always complex and intriguing; they leave me (and Hope) guessing until the very end. I can’t wait to read/listen to the rest of the series. The narrator is fantastic!

Love this series!

Can't wait for the next one in the series. I know Life gets in the way, Daniel, but I hope you can squeeze in writing time. I read these books as soon as you publish them. Love the humor and the depth of affection and character in the main players. Waiting (im)patiently for A Hopeless Game.

The cozy mystery series is an easy read or listen and has some very eccentric characters that will keep you laughing. Love the eclectic group that gathers to create the murder board. Hope just can’t seem to understand relationships and often comes close to identifying the murderer, but can be just a bit off. Katie and her kids are a big part of this book in the series.

Contemporary cozy mystery. Middle of series but did not make a difference in reading out of order with sufficient back story provided. Rest of series not available at my library 😕

I am so glad I discovered this amazing series, as I am just loving it. Normally I am all about the mystery but in this series the author had created some wonderful character and I love spending time with them. Whether it's baby sitting three scary children with Hope for the weekend, bickering on a girls night out or visiting a pumpkin patch with a killer around, I am all in and I have never been to a pumpkin patch. I really enjoyed Katie's children in this book and hope Aunty Hope spends a lot more time with them getting into trouble. All of it is highly entertaining and amusing and I can't get enough. With all that drama and mischief the author still manages to come up with a great mystery that takes so many turns you have no clue who the killer is. This series might be set in Hopeless but it is anything but and I am off to start the next book.
Hope finds herself babysitting for her best friends three children for the weekend just when she gets the case of her life. The murder of a goat, okay the sheriff only have it to her to investigate to get her out of his hair but that is no reason not to give it her all. If she survives the weekend that is. Katie also forgot to mention that she promised to take the children to the pumpkin patch but three hyper children on a sugar rush is the least of her worries when a skeletal arm is found in the pumpkin patch. She has a choice find a killer or face Katie's wrath for letting her son find the bones. Hope chooses the killer even tho the skeleton case is a cold case and with no idea when the death occurred Hope will have to question everybody and hope it leads her to a clue. Can she solve both cases? And will she still have a best friend at the end of it?
I liked the narrator. She did some great voices for all the characters whether they were young or old, male or female they all sounded different.

My first sentence is about Hope and Alex...and Rebecca. Rebecca basically told Hope to go away and leave Alex alone because she's going to make sure she and Alex get back together. Rebecca told Hope how she and Alex were so close they nearly got married, but then Rebecca took her job at the Secret Service, so she and Alex sort of tapered off. That didn’t stop Rebecca from telling Hope, "I guess what I'm saying is, I think Alex and I can handle it from here," as she left Hope standing alone with a metaphorical knife in her heart. My thought is that Hope has messed up enough with Alex due to assumptions and she'd better not do it again! Go get him, Hope! Alex really likes Hope and I'm certain he's over Rebecca.

And, of course, Hope accused the wrong person of murder in front of a group of people. Pretty standard for her being that this is the third time she’s done exactly that (and this is the third book. Notice the pattern here?)

And also true to pattern, Hope finds herself alone with the least likely suspect (killer of Wanda, not Percy). I figured it’d come down to Hope going into the corn maze even though she’s terrified of it and adamantly against entering the yellow and green enclosed walls. I’m thinking that means she’s alone with the killer (just like in the previous two books). Just when Hope was about to get a pitchfork to the face, she sees the light and hears kids screaming and stomping quickly through the tall stalks. Then, Katie’s fist and the killer’s head. Bam!

Another missed death of Hope by a kernel.

Now, Percy…Hope will need to get that Murder wrapped up quickly or take the New York job. Will love and family prevail in the next book?
I’m going to find out in book 4…”A Hopeless Game”

The mighty knockout

Stupendous. Loved it. A wonderful plot of murder, counterfeiting, assassin (okay it was only animals but they deserve justice too) and kids that make your hair curl. Wonderful fast paced action with comic relief thrown in when she is talked into babysitting her BFF's three kids. Kids that would give Lucifer a run for his money. The characters just get better but Alex isn't worth the bother. Obviously has secrets that he won't share as well as leaving her to take the fallout.
A dead goat is not exactly the murder case she was looking for but the cold eyed woman is another story. Now though she's been talked into babysitting the Hell's Spawn that are her BFF's three children. Certainly not expecting a trip to an Pumpkin patch to lead to an old case murder. Add in a dead cow, her nemesis front high school, Alex keeping secrets, Alex arresting her, counterfeiting and lies. Who killed the woman whose skeleton is found in the pumpkin patch? What does the cold eyed woman want? Why are they using her name? Who is responsible for the counterfeiting? Are they all linked?

Number three was as good as numbers one and two!!!!
Funny, not overdone, not underdone, just right.
Disclaimer: years ago when I was on the Parent's Association, we had a Halloween Festival. Not as big as the Pumpkin celebration in the book, but 800 people, which is pretty good.
I passed by my friend Ken, who was standing next to a huge pumpkin.
I said, "That thing must weight 82 pounds."
He shouted, "We have a winner!"
And he meant I won the pumpkin.
I ran home, but one of the dads put it in his truck, and the pumpkin was on our stoop as we arrived home. It didn't fit in the house. Stayed outside all winter, feeding squirrels and raccoons and birds, hopefully not mice and rats.
So, anything with a pumpkin theme that I not only tolerate, but love, is a great book indeed.
Love the characters, love the town, and yes, it even made me appreciate pumpkins.
PS I later found out it was 182 pounds, but they were trying so hard to get rid of it, and I was the only one stupid enough to hazard a guess. I live in New York City, what do I know about pumpkins?

I’m hooked

I’ve just finished the third installment of the Hope Walker mysteries and I’m hooked.
There have been other books, other series and other authors whose work has been compared to Janet Evanovich and the Stephanie Plum stories. And I’ve not read anything that comes even close until this fun series by Daniel Carson.
The core characters are wonderful. I do like Hope and her Granny, but my laugh out loud moments are because of the antics of five year old Dominic. He is spectacular! Katie and the kids are a huge part of what makes this series special to me.
I’m ready to start number four; the mysteries are not run of the mill, not predictable solutions and not easy to put down.
Mr Carson, thanks for your excellent writing, fun characters and humor as Hope and her friends solve the next puzzle. As I said, I’m hooked!

As this book opens, Sheriff Alex Kramer gives a case to Hope. It's a murder case but not the usual type. It's the murder of a goat.

If this isn't enough, her best friend Katie's babysitter for her weekend away with her husband is sick and guess who the choice is to replace her. Everyone gets quite the kick out of this, especially Granny and Bess.

Of course, this isn't going to be a normal babysitting job, not with Dominic, Lucy and baby Celia. It's the trip to Bubba's Pumpkin Patch that truly is the highlight.

So now Hope has a goat murder, a possible job offer, a skeleton, the care of three kids and a jealous Alex to deal with. Not to mention her best friend Katie when she comes home to the news of what Dominic found.

These things are both hysterical and suspenseful as this story unfolds. I am truly enjoying this fun filled, page turning series.

Such a good story!

I seriously love Hope and her granny and Katie, the best friend and all of the other characters in the book. The mysteries are always complex, well written and never rushed to a conclusion. Now, Hope’s love life is a mess and I must say that I hope she finds someone new, who will respect her and love her. Alex is very lacking and this book didn’t help him any. I really love the fact that Hope stands up for herself and doesn’t moon over a guy and ignore the actions or inactions of the love interest for the sake of the story.

Hopeless had itself another dead body and the sheriff needed Hope’s help. What Hope saw was the body of a dead goat. What? A goat murder? Hope was expected to solve a goat murder? Stupid sheriff
Although story had that witty commentary that I loved in previous books, the goat angle just wasn’t interesting. Looking at the lives of goats? It was boring.

My HOPELESS DISCOVERY was my disappointment in this story. Plus, I couldn’t help but figure that I tried to read this book before and I couldn’t even do it then.

Okay, so, it's really rare that I will type a review in here. Let me start by saying I pretty much only read Dark Fantasy. I decided to give a different type of book a chance as I was in a lull.

I love the main character, Hope! This was a great little murder mystery! This is the 3rd book in the series. Let me also include that I did NOT read the first two books in the series. I caught up quickly and have already downloaded the fourth. There's something about her character and Daniel's writing that had me hooked pretty quickly. I read the book in 3 sittings, less than 24 hours. Love!

Best of the series so far!

The first two books of this series were pretty good and provided some laugh out loud moments. The third book was REALLY good and had more laughs and even a teardrop when Hope's relationship with Katie's kids saves her life. I am now excited for the next book to come out and to have found a series that I will hopefully (pun intended) be reading for years to come.

3.5 Stars. Read the first 6 books back to back. Hope Walker is an investigative reporter with an explosive story about a criminal organization. Her story is squashed and she's fired as she returns to her Idaho home town. She's soon involved in solving murders and ongoing mysteries while trying to rebuild her life from some tragic events. Very fun characters, light romance and ongoing plot developments as the series goes on. Nice escapist reading.

Book 3 of the Hope Walker series was just as fun as the others. This time a skeleton is discovered in a pumpkin patch while Hope is babysitting her best friend’s kids for the weekend. If you don’t like snarky characters and cozy mysteries, this is not the series for you.
Note: While the books are stand-alone mysteries, I think it helps to read them in order because of the backstories of the characters and their interactions with each other.

Best one yet

Love the developments with the characters and in particular with Hope. She is growing on me, mostly because though her theories are often wild this time she at least didnt make the wild accusations without evidence. Katie and her kids are still the best part of the story and really help build a great plot.

Great mystery series

The tension is high between the sheriff and the reporter. Not one but two women throw punches. A goat is murdered and a cow(but with less personality). There is a corn maze chase scene. When everything is wrapped up- you realize it’s just getting started. Awesome series. My new favorite! Read them all!!

A Redeeming Read

Well, really, a very fun entertaining, solid read. I was worried Carson was going to fall into a formatted formula for his Hopeless series. While there are many similarities, aka great characters, solid plot and witty dialogue, this book isn't formative. Indulge yourself in a fun cozy read, the dialogue is wonderful and he sets up his next book well.

Hope is assigned a murder investigation by Sheriff Kramer, the murder of a goat. Hope is distracted because she must babysit her friends 3 children for the weekend. She takes them to the Pumpkin Patch on Saturday and Dominic discovers two human bones in the pumpkin patch. Fast paced with humor and romance thrown in great reading

Hopelessly sucked in!

I am a girl who reads in spurts. For better or worse, it is what it is. (Was that enough bad catch phrases for you?) These Hope Walker cozies have really GREAT characters, fun mysteries to be solved, and make you want to know more about Hopeless, Idaho. Book 4.... here I come!

I’m Surprised! I Really Liked This Story!

I’m stopped reading suspense/murder a while ago but thought I’d give this a try. So glad I did. While I was frustrated with the heroine’s emotional responses at times, I found it a warm, funny and very human tale. Thought I knew who summit, but I sure didn’t!

fabulous fun !

Second time I’ve read this book, loved the ones before as well!
There is murder, children, romance and the honest look at married life!
The villains are all caught and one is exonerated. I recommend this book to everyone who likes a good laugh at reality, who dun it? And all with some clean romance, or is there romance, I think it is brewing?!
Great story.

Waiting for #3

This series is quite entertaining, and I am enjoying it very much. The heroine is appealing and spunky, and the other characters are interesting and (mostly) likable. There is an ongoing mystery in addition to the main one for the book.
