1960s island romance. When nineteen-year-old boatbuilder, Colin, is offered a new job in Guernsey, he doesn’t expect to become a girl. But he hasn’t counted on unconventional boatyard boss’ wife, Leanne.
Theirs is no ordinary attraction. In supporting Colin to become Colette, Leanne is confronted with her own conflicted physical needs. Even in the sexually liberated sixties, falling for a transgender woman might be seen as taboo. Together the pair embark on a rollercoaster adventure of love, despair, and rock ‘n’ roll.
Then Colette falls for kindly, down-to-earth George, and both women’s lives are thrown into turmoil. Torn between George and Leanne, it takes an unexpected turn of events to force Colette’s hand.Tessa Barrie, A transgender romance that is so much more than just a love story. It took my emotions on a roller coaster ride. I laughed, as Abigail weaves in a degree of humour, but I cried more, as the emotional struggles facing the nineteen-year-old main character play out. I can’t wait to read the second novel in this series.
Born in Suffolk in the United Kingdom, Abigail Summer now lives in a small village in the north of France with her husband Alex, and a ginger cat called Little One.
When not writing, she likes nothing more than driving her vintage tractor around the property.
Her debut novel, Colette, is the first in an action romance series following the life and loves of a young transgender woman from the late 1960s onwards.
Abigail is currently writing a spin-off novel featuring Jeanette, a minor but powerful character in book one.
This was a beautiful and complete story that was delightful to read. The plot was interesting, with wonderful twists. The timeline of the late 60s seemed anachronistic to my American mind. The Stonewall riots were in 69, and transgender women were treated like criminals. Of course beck then transgender wasn't the term used. Transsexuals had to go to Sweden and in the USA most couldn't afford it, so they lived as drag queens.
This book however is very real! It captures the emotions and turmoil of love in the 60s and 70s. It captures the subtleties of being bisexual and transgender, of love, of pain, of heartache, and of love that transcends selfish desires. The characters are real, multidimensional, and believable.
This has been one of the most beautiful stories I've read in a long time. I was moved touched, and inspired.
Thoroughly enjoyable story of a young boat builder in the 1960s, Colin who moves to a new job and the girl within is revealed. It is a well drawn out tale with many twists and turns.
What a beautiful love story all the twists and turns and maybe a happily ever after with the outlook of a new baby. All characters well described and all really believable even the era and settings were excellent would look to follow this author.
I usually read lesbian fiction but I thought I would give this a look. To be honest I am glad I did, I enjoyed it, the heart rendering emotions, the deep emotion that spirals in all the characters. I really enjoyed it and will be reading more of a similar vein.
