The nice thing about losing your future is that it makes starting over much easier. Marcus Williams is prepared to make it through the last two years of his degree with no expectations, no aspirations, and no connections.
But strategies can change, especially when you've got someone like Sebastian Lockwood staring you down on the line of scrimmage.
I probably would have liked this a lot more had I not gone in expecting a romance. The romance in this story is very much secondary to the plot. (most of the characters getting to know each other and falling in love happens off page).
This story is about the main character's journey and healing after a lot of gaslighting and fair-weather friends, and it's very good, but I kept thinking, 'Yeah, but it's supposed to be a romance where's the romance?"
However, if you're looking for the above, and some excellent queer rep, this may be exactly your catnip!
Wow, I do not like this. First, it's written in the present tense, so that threw me. Next, the dialogue is in the gonzo-over-the-top style. Everybody calls everyone an asshole, etc. Lastly, the MC is on meds and drinks, with no consequences. Oh, and one of the characters is the rich that seems fake...offering new apartments to people he just met. DNFing at 38%.
I loved this! It was a lovely story, but it also had a ton of bite to it. The characters and their relationships were beautifully developed, and I always love stories that are carried by the characters. The writing style makes it incredibly easy and fun to read, and I was sad when it was over. Looking forward to more work from this author!
