Up until two years ago, I was living large and my life’s priorities were anchored to three things – my NBA stardom, money and celebrity.
I was also a colossal dick.
Until one night turned my world upside down and I suffered unspeakable loss. That event changed the man I was and made me a widowed-single father.
Now I’m a desperate parent trying to raise my special needs son and find him a trustworthy live-in nanny.
Grad student Brooklyn Hayes may be the one, with her single-minded focus on caring for my son and finishing her Master’s degree. She’s the perfect fit for our needs.
Maybe too perfect… with her bright smile, nurturing kindness and gentle touch. Caleb isn’t the only one who’s fallen for her.
I don’t know when or how it happened, but she changed the game for me. Turning my losing streak into a winning second-half.
Sierra Hill is a 2020 RONE Award-Winning author of Game Changer, as well as over 30 novels, including the award-winning college sports series, Courting Love, and the twice award-finalist erotic ménage serial, Reckless – The Smoky Mountain Trio.
Ugh! This book is bad. So bad. Single daddy and nanny romance is usually interesting to read. However this book is poorly written. The dialog between Brooklyn and Garret os so stiff. Because of that, the character is only one dimensional.
The plot, the writting surely can be improved much better than this.
I really need to learn not to be so damn stubborn. I picked up this book because I want to read the next book in the series. But within the first few pages I pretty much knew it wasn't for me. However I like Sierra Hill's Courting Love series and I want to read the next book in this series and I really hate not finishing a book once I start it. So really the issue is I'm a stubborn idiot who wasted her day.
This was one of those times I just didn't connect with either character. And I never really felt any romance between them either. I just felt like he was a cold, selfish jerk and she was convenient and attracted to him. Whenever things didn't work out he shut down, used her then ran away. And when he made stupid selfish decisions and they didn't work he came crawling back.
Brooklyn I just didn't really care about at all. She was all "I'm a strong independent woman" but she just kept putting up with his crap. His apologies were seriously lacking and he was genuinely shocked every time she reacted rationally to his cold shoulder.
The heroine seems like the SECOND best. The hero LOVED his dead wife. And he keeps remembering his wife while talking with the h and also in general.
The h is the main initiator here. She kisses him first and she even asks him to fuck her. But he pushes her away. Then the next day he starts touching her while she is asleep and then they have sex. This constant hot and cold behavior of the H sucked. The h’s desperate act was unlikable.
Also I didn’t feel any love from the H. He keeps whining about how his life is so unhappening. He has to look after his special need kid, his wife is dead, blah blah. He envies his previous life when he was a player and had fun.
I have read so many good boss nanny romance that this seems pale in comparison.
Game Changer was so much more than what I expected. This book has all the feels, and seriously, I felt like I knew the characters and was right there with them. Garrett was an NBA player and had everything, until a car accident took his wife and left his son, Caleb with a traumatic brain injury. Garrett is now an assistant coach at a university, and Caleb is his main focus. His nanny has retired so he is looking for a nanny for the summer. Brooklyn is a grad student studying child development and has an afinity to special needs children, since her brother is autistic. She applies for the job, and she feels sparks for Coach Parker, but wants to be professional. Garrett is not looking for love and really his heart can't let anyone in....but he feels a strong attraction to Brooklyn. She melds into his and Caleb's lives like she was always with them. Also the progress Caleb makes under her tutelage is phenomenal. There is a quote by Garrett in the book that was amazing. Garrett's past comes back to haunt him in Penelope, and his mother not understanding his point of view was sad. Will the attraction and chemistry between Brooklyn and Garrett be enough to hold them together? Can Garrett let go of his past to move forward in his own life? Can Brooklyn forget things her mother has drilled in her about men? You need to read and find out. Garrett's confession toward the end is a definite game changer, and oh the ending was amazing. I so look forward to reading more of this series, and reading the one that this is a spinoff from. I am a definite Sierra Hill fan after this book. Thank you for giving us such an amazing character in Garrett....he may have been handsome, but it also showed that we all have things we need to work on and forgive ourselves for so that we can find love and achieve what we are meant to.
Garrett hired a beautiful nanny Brooklyn for his special needs son, Caleb. After about 6 weeks G+B got oral, vertical & horizontal. Garrett acted immature & critical. His brooding self had a one note quality. I did not see the attraction between these two MCs. 3 women were stuck in Garrett's head and "gummed up" the works.
The author should have spent more time w/ sweet Caleb. I invisioned a solid romance and a powerful story about son Caleb who learned more and felt more at ease in the world. But the story fell short. Sorry, not a fan.
My dang heart after reading this book, just omg!! Brooklyn comes into the lives of Garrett and Caleb just when they need her the most. And the rest as they say is history. Brooklyn with Caleb is about the sweetest thing I’ve ever read. Just I think my heart was smiling and just bursting with every scene between them. And then Garrett, a little rough and gruff around the edges but deep down has a heart of gold. To see these three together just seriously my heart. I loved this book and these characters and just omg!!
So much potential here for a one of a kind sports-romance with all the bells and whistles, too. Except it didn't really reach its potential for this reader. It was lacking in areas I felt needed so much more and in the end felt so incomplete.
Garrett wasn't my favorite in the role of the H -- in fact, I didn't much care for him for most of the book. Oh, he had his good points and I won't deny he was a great father to Caleb, and one whom had to learn that chore the hard way. But he definitely wasn't perfect by no means and had made his share of doozy mistakes. He wasn't the most thoughtful or realistically fair in many ways. And then Brooklyn couldn't have been nicer. I really felt sorry for her and sympathized with all her feelings. She did walk into the situation of her own freewill, but I felt like Garrett really took advantage of a much younger partner -- especially in light of the age difference. In a lot of ways, he never lost that professional athlete attitude that isn't very becoming at times.
"Game Changer" is a sweet and heartfelt story. Some parts were very well done, tender-hearted and sweet. I loved the interactions between Brooklyn and young Caleb. It wasn't a hardship to read, and for the most part I did enjoy the storyline. I would have liked to know what happened with the job situation for Garrett and a little more closure on the court proceedings in regards to Penelope (detested that woman!) and the future as it pertained to Caleb. As this is the first book in the series, maybe we'll see more of Garrett, Brooklyn and Caleb in future storylines.
I really enjoyed this book. Garrett is a single father to his special needs son, Caleb and I think that is why this book really pulled me in. I am a mother to a special needs daughter and I know all the struggles that he is going through. The questions, the stares, sometimes having to do everything for your child. I have been there and doing that and I could really relate with Garrett on this part of his life. It is hard and then when you are doing it yourself, that makes it even harder. Finding care is not an easy thing to do and you want to make sure trust anyone who is going to be around your child. Enter Brooklyn, who already has a degree in Early Childhood Development and is enrolled in grad school to become a child psychologist. She is looking for a summer job to help her narrow down her interests in either hands on or clinical. This book will pull you in and you won’t want to let go. This book was very easy to read. I read this book in one sitting.
This book was so emotional and if you are a parent of a special needs child, you will understand everything that he is going through. Even if you are not, the way this book was written, you will feel like you are going through the struggles with him. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
Sierra Hill delivered a heartwarming and sweet romance that will fill your romantic heart. This was my first book by Sierra and I was blown away. How have I not read anything by her before? I need to remedy that.
The characters were caring and loveable and the story was relateable. I was pulled in from that very first page. As I turned the pages I fell harder and harder for these two. And that special sweet boy took a piece of my heart. I loved everything about this book and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
She’s the balm to my soul and a light in my darkest corner.”
If there’s one trope that makes my heart flip inside my chest, it’s the single daddy/nanny tale, and when you add into the mix a sports-themed romance with a hunkilicious ex-baller struggling to raise a special needs child, then I am a TOTAL GONER!
PREMISE: GAME CHANGER is first captivating installment in Sierra Hill’s Change of Heart series and a spinoff of her Courting Love series, but I can full attest that it reads as a complete standalone. In a nutshell, this is an emotionally charged tale of NBA superstar whose life was thrown the ultimate curveball when a tragic accident left him a widowed single dad. Now two years later, Garrett Parker’s still buried in guilt and grief, struggling to raise his disabled son, Caleb, who suffered traumatic brain injury from the accident that killed his wife. He forfeited his all-star career to care for his beloved boy and is now a highly respected Associate Head Coach to the ASU men’s basketball team. But juggling the demands of the job and single parenthood have taken a toll and he needs a summer nanny…pronto!
He finds one in the form of beautiful and bubbly Brooklyn Hayes, a child psychology graduate student who immediately begins to work wonders with his precious son. But the bereft widower never planned on developed a fierce attraction to the gentle-hearted woman who brings light back into both his and Caleb’s worlds. Can he resist temptation and keep things strictly business with his son’s sweet, alluring nanny…or will lines be irrevocably crossed?
MY MUSINGS: Wow…just wow. Sierra Hill scored a SLAM DUNK with GAME CHANGER! This gorgeously crafted story OWNED me from page one and held me a captive audience throughout! This book is not only uber hot and tantalizingly sexy, but there were so many heart-tugging feels from start to finish that my hand felt like it was perpetually clutching my chest! And as a warrior mom to two special needs kids with their own set of challenges, this book really resonated on a soul deep level that really punched me in the gut!
“Sometimes the people we love most cause us the biggest heartaches.”
Garrett is my favorite kind of book boyfriend—moody broody, gruff and taciturn, with his heart under lock and key, but when he’s around his son you see what a big ol’ softie he is inside! He has a lot of baggage to contend with—including a custody battle brewing with Caleb’s bio mommy—and with some arrogant “bosshole” tendencies he was admittedly not always the EASIEST guy to love. However, I loved him nonetheless because this fiercely devoted single dad sacrificed everything for his disabled son while at the height of his pro-ball fame. I relished the slow and steady transformation of this character and his journey from bereavement to healing was a beautiful thing to behold.
As for Brooke, this “sweet fiery warrior” was like a godsend in Garrett and Caleb’s lives and her kind, nurturing, fiercely independent nature was the perfect counterpart to this rough around the edges basketball couch. And even when Garrett held her at arm’s length you could see her warmth and goodness slowly chipping away at his steely armor.
“Something broken inside him speaks to something desperate to help inside me, complementing us physically and connecting us emotionally.”
This is a molten hot romance with a hefty dose of angst and tons of push-pull, but I felt a real genuine connection between this duo and rooted for them to make it work despite the obstacles facing them. And that first kiss, where all the pent up passion and swelling emotion finally ignites, was DELICIOUSLY COMBUSTIBLE!
“I’ve never experienced a kiss this passionate or desperate before. Garrett kisses me as if I am the air he needs to breathe. The sustenance he requires to live.”
Steamy romance aside, one of my FAVORITE parts of this books was the way that the H&h came together for the sake of his 4 year old son. Caleb was truly the emotional touchstone of this book for me. That “brilliant, beautiful and sweet” little boy was just a pure wonder and he decimated me in the BEST POSSIBLE WAY! And while his life would always be fraught with difficulties, his spirit was as fierce as Garrett’s ferocious love for him! I adored the scenes where Brooke was working to help Caleb combat his cognitive impairments and strengthen his speech and language skills. And, ultimately, the interactions between the threesome just truly SLAYED me!
I truly felt the full gamut of emotions throughout—heartache, tenderness, frustration, sadness, giddy euphoria and love. SO MUCH LOVE that my heart was overflowing! It’s the kind of book that you read that the world falls away and you find yourself completely and utterly immersed into the lives of the characters. And the payoff after all the tumult was such sweet triumph! The HEA had me swooning—and blinking back tears—as this trio finally beat the odds and scored a winning future!
BOTTOM LINE: GAME CHANGER is a smoldering hot and deeply poignant tale about second changes, overcoming adversity and embracing life in all its perfectly imperfect glory. I cannot wait for more from this new to me author and will anxiously await the second book in the Change of Heart series!
Game Changer is the first book in Sierra Hill’s Change of Hearts series, which is a spin-off of the Courting Love series. Although we get to see more of characters from the Courting Love series, it’s not necessary to have read the series to understand Game Changer. Game Changer is a complete standalone and can be read without having read any of Sierra Hill’s prior books.
From the start, Game Changer had me hooked. It was a sweet story, yet there was plenty of emotion to deal with throughout. The two come together so well, and you’ll go from smiling wide to desperate to see everything sort itself out. You’re sucked in deep, making it extremely difficult to put the book down, making it possible to complete this one in a single sitting as you’ll forget about the outside world.
As much as I enjoyed this one, completing it in a couple of hours, I’ll be honest and say it wasn’t quite a full four-star rating. It was so close I had to round it up, but I felt like there was something missing. With all that was involved, I expected a wee bit more drama around certain parts of the story, and found certain elements came together a bit too easily. I certainly had fun with this one, but there was that little bit more I’d been hoping for.
I’m certainly eager for the second book in the Change of Hearts series. We were introduced to plenty of fun side characters, and I cannot wait to get their stories.
I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
This is the sweet story of a man who falls hard for his nanny. Single dad Garrett lost his wife two years ago - in an accident which left his son with a traumatic brain injury. Caring for Caleb is a full time job and as a successful college basketball coach, Garrett can’t manage without a live-in nanny. When Garrett hires Brooklyn, a graduate student studying child psychology, he doesn’t know what to do with the attraction he feels for his nanny.
Yes - man falling for nanny is a fairly tired storyline. I think it’s actually Brooklyn who makes the story feel a bit more fresh. She’s driven and focused and keeps her boundaries clear. I’m not sure I completely liked Brooklyn - she’s a little bit too perky and polite for me, but she isn’t as much of a push-over as she first seems. I really enjoyed the glimpses of Brooklyn’s work with Caleb and her determination to help him develop his language and communication skills.
Garrett is a mess. I wouldn’t even describe him as a hot mess at the start of the story. Still grieving his wife, locked in a messy battle with his son’s birth mother and barely managing to give Caleb the care he needs, Garrett comes across as miserable and controlling for far too much of the book. He’s selfish and the former NBA star has way too much ego to be likeable. I’m not sure I ever really came round to Garrett as a leading man but I appreciate the changes in him by the end of the story.
There is a whole lot of angst and drama in this story. It was a bit much for me at times and I struggled with the way Garrett treats Brooklyn. I’m not sure these two are a perfect match but I can see how Brooklyn is good for both Garrett and Caleb.
It’s a kiss of gratitude. Of apology. A kiss to claim. A clear statement to announce to Penelope and the world, that Brooklyn is mine. There is no one else. She’s in my corner and I am in hers.
4.5 stars! It was a good book that was really well written, thought out, and researched. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I most likely won't read it again and those are the only books I 5 star. It was just a little too messy and tragic for me. Garrett's background is a hot mess and while it makes for compelling drama it was just too angsty, will he or won't he, for me.
Some definite pluses - his little boy Caleb was adorable and the book DID make me cry. I always take that as a sign of a good author so well done Sierra Hill!
Brooklyn is a Grad student working on her Master’s degree. Garrett the basketball coach and a single dad to Caleb. Caleb has special needs. Garrett is in need of a nanny for a summer. Brooklyn fits their needs for a nanny perfectly. She gets along great with Caleb. Her and Garrett have a great connection too. Garrett is dealing with a lot of things and isn't looking fro a relationship. Things with Brooklyn start off slowly. I don't think either know how much the other was sweeping into their heart. This one is heart string puller that I enjoyed reading.
Coach Garrett Parker has had a very tragic few years. Brooklyn is about to enter grad school when she hears of a summer job nannying for Coach Parker and his son with traumatic brain damage.
This story was very easy to read. Smoking hot. Achingly heartbreaking. And awesome fabulous! I highly recommend!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really felt for Garrett and everything he went through. I thought Brooklyn was the breath of fresh air he and Caleb needed. I did want to punch him at times. He was sick an A** sometimes. I’m glad he got his head out of his butt and saw why was right in front of him. He was an amazing dad and Brooklyn was a great addition to their family. Her love for them was real and I felt for her at the end. I’m glad they found their happy ending. This was a great read and super steamy!! Definitely recommend!!
Garrett is not book boyfriend. He seems to be a great father and coach. Where I see him failing was in communication with Brooklyn. She was also poor in communication when she overheard things and assumed but for most part she was a strong caring woman, especially for her age. I totally liked how Caleb was nurtured by both Garrett and Brooklyn. Caleb was a special kid.
Game Changer by Sierra Hill is the first book in the Change of Heart series and it had me completely sucked into the story from the very beginning. I love a good sports romance and nanny book and this combined the two beautifully. A sweet romance with plenty of swoon and so many feels that made it nearly impossible to put down.
Garrett and Brooklyn were a dream. I loved their chemistry and their connection leaped off the pages. Theirs was more of a slow burn when it came to the romance, but it had plenty of heat and steam in all the right places. Also, my heart just melted at the love Garrett has for his son, Caleb. I do wish things with them would have taken a bit longer to be resolved. It felt a bit rushed, but all in all the story was still fantastic. I’d absolutely recommend it. 4 stars.
I love stories about hot, single dads who fall for their nanny who is amazing with his child. Totally serious here, it's a great storyline and Brooklyn is awesome. I like that she's smart and confident and capable of doing things for herself. She and Garrett have good chemistry and seeing her bond with Caleb was so sweet. The relationship took a little bit of time to form which gave it a realistic feeling and I love that Garrett put Caleb first. The drama was interesting and not over done, it gave the story some depth and I liked that Brooklyn wasn't afraid to stand up for herself with Penelope. Fun story and I'm going to check out the college series so I can see how Lucas and his wife got together!
WOW this book really is a game changer, I guarantee you it will pull at even the hardest of hearts, heart strings.
Game Changer tells us the story of Garrett, he’s a widowed single father to Caleb, his young son with a disability. Caleb is the most adorable little boy you could ever meet, he’ll worm his way right into your heart, just like he has mine. Brooklyn enters Garrett’s life, Caleb‘s too just at the right time when they both needed her most, she was only supposed to be temporary but Caleb worked his way into her heart as did his father whilst at the same time she worked her way under Garrett’s skin and into his heart.
Garrett may come across a little bit grumpy, angry even but his pain is clear for all to see especially Brooklyn, she sees him for the man he really is, the one with a heart of gold who’d do anything for those he loves, predominantly his son who he worships. The journey Garrett and Brooklyn go through towards reaching their happily ever after wasn’t always an easy one to witness, but it’s 100% worth it especially when you get to see the relationship they have with young Caleb, I’m sure they do it all again. Seeing how Caleb blossomed in the care of Brooklyn was just beautiful, I’ve got a tear in my eye as I’m writing this.... GAH! this book was everything, like I’ve already said a Game Changer it’s one book you really NEED to read.
I loved coach Garrett when I first read him in Jump Shot and I immediately wanted his story! I wanted to know his pain and wanted him to find his HEA and Sierra delivered that and soooo much more with this beautiful story!
Garrett hasn’t had the easiest life and has faced the worst losses but the athlete in him doesn’t allow him to ever stop charging forward! He makes mistakes but has grown to learn from them! All it took was the love a woman to change the game for him! Brooklyn is a young woman who knows what she wants from life and she definitely didn’t expect to fall for the brooding man who hired her to help his son! Being raised to be her own woman Brooklyn faces tough decisions about what her future holds and she hoping for once that love can be enough!
Sierra definitely delivered a story packed with humor, amazing sex scenes that have me needing a cold shower, and some amazing messages about second chances and healing! A must read this year!!
“Game Changer” by Sierra Hill is a delicious read. It’s a: ✔️ Delicious Sports Romance ✔️ Sexy Single dad ✔️ Naughty Nanny ✔️ Forbidden romance read. You will love reading Garrett and Brooklyn’s love story. TBR and enjoy.
Oh Wow! Get the tissues ready for this fantastic book. It had me laughing and crying and wanting to knock some sense into both of the main characters. Garret had a pro basketball career until he lost his wife in a tragic accident and his son was left with a traumatic brain injury. Garret is now an assistant coach at a university and he needs a nanny for the summer and Brooklyn has been recommended by a friend. She has an autistic brother and is studying how to help children with developmental disabilities and is studying for her masters degree. She is working out great but they are both fighting a huge attraction to each other. This book also has a nosy bff and a gay bff, an interfering obnoxious mother, a stalker and some super hot steamy scenes. This is a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Wow, just wow. I think I have a girl crush on Garrett. He is a total babe. Hes a doting dad with a child who has special needs trying to hold it together. Brooklyn is a young student who knows her stuff in child development and psychology who happen to be hot and needs this summer job that Barrett can give her. Caleb is sweet, innocent & just needs some help that will helo him develop. This story will pull at your heart strings, want to skap Garrett one monute but then hug him the next. Hes had to endure a heap of life stuff but some pf the things he says melts your heart then in the next breathe he puts his foot in his mouth. An amazing story you'll love xx
Garrett has been dealt some major pain and challenges in his life. But he forges on and does what he has to in order to have a life and protect his disabled son. The pain and regret he feels is so real and living day by day is all he can do. Brooklyn comes in as his nanny and proves to be amazing for his son. But he can't fall for her can he? I mean, she is his nanny, his employee....But trying to protect his heart is proving to be more difficult than he thought it would be. Brooklyn becomes a true game changer....will he allow her to take his heart and change his future? I truly loved everything about this couple but more so...the Caleb..I could picture him in my mind's eye...making progress becoming a little man in his own right. I can't wait for more Change of Heart!!
Game Changer is the first book in the Change of Hearts series and this book will capture your heart and hold it hostage. This is no ordinary single dad/nanny romance this one is a game changer. It is heart wrenching, touching, moving and seriously affecting. Your anxiety will be high at times, tears will form but it will all be worth it for the happiness their story will bring to your soul. Garrett and Brooklyn have a chemistry that sparks off the pages and heats you from your fingertips to your toes. Caleb will steal your heart with so little effort and have you falling in love with this character. An all round beautifully written story that will take you on a journey of love that is worth putting yourself second for.
My heart!!!! Gah! Seriously,,,, my heart broke for Coach Garret and his son Caleb,,, and then Brooklyn comes along and makes it so much better! I really don't want to give anything away, because there is SO MUCH MORE than just Brooklyn coming along and making life better! This book has my emotions all over the place! I've cried, screamed, laughed, got mad AGAIN,, turned off my Kindle, swore at it, then ultimately turned it back on and fell in love again! This book is so much MORE than just a love story, it's about hope, even when you have nothing left to give, you don't stop. You do everything in your power for your child, never giving up. This is such a beautiful story, it's heartbreaking, powerful, and inspirational! I highly recommend this book!!!!
This was my first book by this author, but it won’t be my last. Garrett and Brooklyn had such a realistic, somewhat painful story. Garrett had to learn to let go of his guilt to find the good in life, while Brooklyn had to learn that being a strong woman doesn’t mean that you can’t also lean on a good man once in a while. They had their ups and downs, but Brooklyn was no doormat and let Garrett know that she wouldn’t be used until her convenience wore out for him. Because of that, they both had to find a way to balance what they wanted with what they deserved, and they managed to find their way to their own HEA. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series.
