Here is a Top 10 list from Ann about her likes, dislikes, and oddities:
1. I despise whipped cream. There, I admitted it in writing. Let the ridiculing begin. 2. Even though I have lived as far south as Key Largo, Florida and as far north as Maine, I landed in the middle. 3. If I don't make a conscious effort not to, I will drink nothing but tea morning, noon and night. Hot tea, sweet tea, green tea––I love it all. 4. There doesn't seem to be much in life that is better than coming home to a couple of big dogs who are overjoyed to see me. My other family members usually show significantly less enthusiasm about my return. 5. Singing in my bestest, loudest voice does not make my family put on their happy faces. This includes the big, loving dogs referenced above. 6. Yes, I am aware that bestest is not a word. 7. Dorothy was right. There's no place like home. 8. All of the numerous bottles in my shower must be lined up with their labels facing out. It makes me feel a little like Julia Roberts' mean husband from the movie 'Sleeping with the Enemy,' but I can't seem to control this particular quirk. 9. I love, love, love finding a great bargain. 10. Did I mention that I hate whipped cream? It makes my stomach churn to look at it, touch it, smell it, or even think about it. Great––now I'm thinking about it. Ick!

The synopsis of Shattered Diamonds sounded intriguing, but the story was a huge disappointment. I was not a fan of how the story unfolded back and forth between characters. The plot (if there was one) dragged on and on and on. The ending was a surprise, albeit a cliffhanger; and frankly, I do not care what happens in the next book. Sadly I am done with this author.
There were lots of hints about how this was going to end and it was just too easy to predict. The story was a huge disappointment. I was unhappy to find I would have to get the next book to finish the story. A book has to be really good for me to buy part 2 and I am not going to do that here. If it ever gets to be free ebook I may give this author a second chance.

Shattered Diamonds is a tantalizing romantic suspense. Ann Omasta has written a realistic fiction with likable characters. I was drawn into the story from the first sentence in the book.
“Everyone in my beloved hometown thinks I killed my wife.”
When his wife, Claire, disappears, Alex is left bereft and suspected of murder. After all, it is always the husband, right? In addition to dealing with being shunned and vandalized, Alex must be both mommy and daddy to his adorable daughter Hannah. Hannah stole the show. Her vulnerability and pluck melted my heart. After a year of heartache and loneliness, it is not surprising that Alex eventually falls for the nanny.
There is natural progression of Josie, the nanny, slowly building trust in Alex. As a relative newcomer to town, she has been influenced by the town’s presumption that Alex has murdered Claire. However, as she gets to know him, she not only decides he couldn’t have murdered his wife, but also that she finds him irresistibly attractive. After a long battle with the attraction, a shocking twist puts Alex and Josie’s relationship in jeopardy.
Shattered Diamonds is a small-town, romantic suspense with a big heart. The delightful characters and quick pace of the story is totally engaging.

Shattered Diamonds is an emotional dramatic start of a Brunswick Bay Harbor series by Ann Omasta, Josie Michaels no longer can preform up to Olympic standards of swimming and is waitressing for her Aunt until her Aunt tells Alex Biggs he will need a nanny for his daughter, Hannah. In small town Brunswick Bay Harbor, Alex is accused and treated terribly by the town for murdering his wife when she just disappeared one day. This is a wonderful setup for the story a missing/murder wife and an interesting dynamic between Alex, Hannah and Josie. Josie needs to be needed and Alex and Hannah need warmth and attention. Well written and I am excited to read the next book in the series. I received this book as an arc for an honest review of it,
What a GREAT start into a new series! The whole town thinks Alex murdered his wife Clair who's missing for almost a year when he hires Josie to take care of his daughter Hannah during summer break. Josie clicked with Hannah and made sure the sad girl enjoyed her childhood again while Alex realizes how much she needed a woman in her life. As the summer continues, Josie and Alex develop feelings for each other, despite him being still a married man..
However I didn't like the cliffhanger ending at all and can't wait to read the next book!
Well done Ann and thanks for letting me review, though I'm still late again. Sorry!

Ann Omasta is such a wonderful storyteller, and this time she hooked me from the very first sentence and never let up. I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Charming and loving writing, especially between Alex's daughter, Hannah, and the nanny, Josie, a beautiful progression of Alex and Jo's relationship, and a great mystery to be solved. And I could just feel Alex's pain of being a social outcast until Josie showed up in their lives. Is he really responsible for his wife, Claire's disappearance? What a brilliant ending and setup for the next book. It truly is a binge-worthy series
What does an Olympic hopeful and a man accused of killing his wife have in common? I know what you are thinking...nothing! Though through a set of emotionally distressing events, these two damaged souls meet. Mournful of the lives each thought they would have, they are forced to face a new and daunting future. Through necessity, misery, intrigue and attraction they create challenges of a lifetime for each other as well as the citizens of Brunswick Bay Harbor. The ending to this tale was quite a shocker. I was flabbergasted to say the least. Thank goodness the second book to this series “Shinning Pearls” is now available. As soon as I finish this review I'm getting in my comfy chair to finish this mystery.

This is a well written book with strong characters and an emotional story line. The author does a fantastic job bringing two damaged people together , supporting each other and building a strong relationship. She adds mystery and intrigue along with the hot chemistry and romance. She brings the story to life with her vividly painted scenes and had me hooked from start to finish , leaving me wanting more with the cliffhanger ending. The story moves quickly and smoothly and I loved reading it. Highly recommend this book.

Omg what an amazing book with all its twists and turns makes it a really great read. I have read nearly every single one of Ann's books but this is definitely my new favourite. Alex and Claire are high school sweethearts and they got married and had a daughter Hannah, Claire suddenly disappears and Alex is blamed for it and all the town turns on him. Josie takes the job of looking after Hannah during the summer holidays and ends up falling in love with Alex but is she destined for heartbreak. I definitely recommend you read this book as it is so well written and worth reading. I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy Of This Book
This is an amazingly well-written story. My heart broke for Alex every time one of the townspeople snubbed him. Josie’s unattainable dreams tugged at my emotions. And Hannah is such a vivacious little sprite; she’s utterly charming and completely infectious. The other reviewers aren’t kidding when they say that’s one heck of a cliff-hanger ending. Normally I avoid any book that has even a whiff of love-triangle around it, but this story now has me torn in shreds, dying to know how it’s all going to turn out. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
Terrific! Ms. Omasta has done it again with the first book in this series. As always her characters are more than compelling in their sensitivity towards the welfare of others. Josie and Alex are no exception with their developing feelings towards each other, while still putting Hannah ahead of themselves. Of course there’s a twist in their romance, and we are left wondering what will become of this newly formed trio. Great characters and story in this beautifully written book. She is an injured Olympic hopeful that has spent her whole life training for the Olympics. Now she has no skills and no family except for her aunt. She takes the job as nanny for the town's murder suspect for his wife. Although nothing could ever be proved, the town believes he killed her. They are attracted to each other, but it is hard for them to give into their feelings. And when they do...the bottom drops out. A wonderful story with a cliffhanger.

I love this book! Two broken people come together, even when their town is against them. Alex needs a nanny and Josie needs to find a new path in her life. Josie manages to make a connection with his daughter, and with Alex. Through all the gossip and drama they grow closer and finally admit to each other their true feelings. Sigh...so happy.....until the twist at the end of the book....OMG.....I wanted to yell out loud!!!! But...I loved it and can't wait for the next one!
It was fine lmao short read but not a lot happened and the MMC kept calling the FMC ‘the woman’??? Cliffhanger at the end but I won’t read the rest of the series. I’m glad it was free 🫠
Entertaining and witty read. Good dialogue and situations to keep you turning to the next page. Great characters and story that keeps you hooked until the last page! Good read.

Alex and Josie have both lost a lot in life. When their lives intertwine, they begin to come alive and live again. The townspeople are skeptical about his role in the disappearance of his wife, but Josie has complete faith in him. Will their relationship stand up to the townspeople not to mention the surprise they are in store for that comes on the end. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I have not read a bad book from this author yet and this book is no exception! The great plot and character development kept me so engaged throughout the entire book that I had a very hard time putting this book down until the very last page was turned!

She let everyone down. He stunned the people of their small town. Can these broken souls heal each other or are some scars too deep to mend? Josie Michaels has dedicated her entire life to winning an Olympic gold medal. When an injury steals her ability to swim competitively, her entire life crashes down around her. Alex Biggs is a heartbroken father doing his best to raise a happy, healthy little girl, even though he is in the center of the biggest scandal the seaside Maine town of Brunswick Bay Harbor has ever seen--his wife, Claire, is missing and almost everyone thinks he's behind her disappearance. Josie needs a job, and the only one she's qualified for is being a nanny to Alex's adorable daughter, Hannah. Will working for the town's most notorious murder suspect bring Jo the purpose she craves, or will it prove to be a deadly mistake?
What a heartbreaking story of love, loss and people in small towns and their rumours and assumptions. This is so well written and will grab you from the start. I love the plot and story line but I need the next one to find out what is going to happen!!! Love the characters as they are so realistic and emotional. Can't wait for the next one now. Recommend reading.

💕Romance built on sand; will the tide sweep it into oblivion?🌊 August 1, 2019 Format: Kindle Edition 👍4.5🌟stars 😲The ending really ratcheted up my overall impression of this story. I can't wait to read the follow-on! The whole issue of hero Alex's missing wife Claire just lays low and simmers in the background throughout the story. I did find it odd that, with so many of the local people concerned about her disappearance, there's little mention of any police investigation.
👧Alex's daughter Hannah is a favorite character for me. Her joy and sorrow gave this romance lots of heart. I liked the way young Hannah moved Alex and Josie closer. The absent Claire left me a bit ambivalent about whether Alex and Josie should have been trying harder to resist any mutual attraction, but it was a difficult, frustrating, nebulous situation so I can understand their actions. There's some steam, but the majority of the story focused on building emotional connections.
😊 I enjoyed it and would recommend it despite the cliffhanger ending. The continuation is set for release in a few weeks, so I won't have to wait for months to learn how their dilemma resolved itself.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
The perfect mix of romance and mystery, Ann Omasta has woven a story of two people trying to find their new normal. Josie Michaels had her dream of becoming an Olympic swimmer shattered. Coming to work att her aunt's diner, she found her place was better suited working the summer as a nanny for Hannah. Hannah has been having a tough time since her mother went missing. Alex, her father has been accused of her murder, and in this small town, both are treated cruelly. Now with Josie there, a new sense of warmth is being shared, not only with Hannah, but a slow burning passion with Alex. Will these two be able to find love and live in this small town? I love this start to the series. Omasta has delivered a story with broken characters, and I really liked that while a healing has begun, it's a very slow process. There is nothing easy, it feels realistic and at times the brutal honesty is heart wrenching. And the twist is a surprise and leaves me wanting book two! Narrated by the author, Ann Omasta brings the story to life just as she has written it. I enjoyed her voice and found her portrayal a great escape!
Alex is a young man whose wife disappeared and left him with a little girl to raise alone. In the small town they live, everyone thinks he killed his wife and no one wants to know him aside from the woman who owns the diner he visits regularly. When her niece arrives back in town she nominates her to babysit over the summer and soon Josie finds herself a regular part of Alex and little Hannahs lives.
Told in the viewpoints of both Alex and Josie, I found it easy to like both of them. This was a nice and easy read and there are a lot of things I enjoyed about it.
Something I didn't enjoy was the use of a phrase that repeated a few times throughout the book where a character is described as bugging their eyes out. It's not one I've read often before so I had to look it up. I guess I found it odd because it sounded so unfamiliar to me.
Unexpectedly the story ends with a bit of a cliffhanger. I just presumed the story was a standalone romance but it does continue into another book which I wasn't aware of before I started to read this.
This story contains some sexual scenes and if you do read it keep in mind it has a cliffhanger ending leading into book 2.
I am completely capivated by this story and can not wait for the next book to find out more because yes it is a cliffhanger but seriously I didn't care because I loved it so much.
The two main characters are both lovely people and vulnerable and in need of each other. I just wanted then both to be happy and I knew they could make each other happier.
The story idea was great and a little bit of a suspense which I don't normally live but this one worked so well that I didn't mind it.
If I have one tiny negative there were a few times when it felt a bit repetitive in how things were described but again there was so much to like that I wasn't too fased by it.
I have read other Ann Omasta books and felt like there wasn't enough detail or steam sometimes but this book did not have those troubles.
Once you read the book you will understand why I'm feeling the desperate need for book two and let just say I will be thinking about it endlessly coming up with how I think things will end until I read it.
Excellent Story & Audible Listen🎧 Entertaining & Engrossing!
Shattered Diamonds Brunswick Bay Harbor Gems, Book 1 By: Ann Omasta Narrated by: Ann Omasta
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is well written and well told with interesting and original storylines that captivated me from start to end and what an ending it is. This is the first book in the series and yes it ends in a cliffhanger but thankfully the next book is set to release soon. The characters are complex and well developed. Alex’s wife disappeared a year ago and life has not been easy for him in the small town he lives in. While there is no proof or evidence of foul play the people of he town point accusatory fingers at him blaming him for her disappearance. He stays with hopes of his wife’s return and for his daughter. The one person who is kind to him, Mimi, the owner of the local diner has a niece who is in need of a job. Josie Michaels, a competitor swimmer had dreams of competing in the Olympics unfortunately an injury took those dreams away. She did not have much of a life outside of the pool, after a failed attempt at waitressing her Aunt lands her a job as a nanny to Alex’s daughter. Alex is an author who works from home and needs someone to watch his daughter Hannah so he can work. I loved how Josie gave him a chance, also loved how great she was with his daughter. She was also great with Alex and they start to build a nice friendly relationship but they soon start to develop feelings, at first Alex pushes her away but the chemistry between them is undeniable. Anna Omasta did a fantastic job plotting out this story, in the background we wonder what happened to his wife Claire, curious minds want to know. The police were no help, no clues were given, no signs or accusations of foul play. Alex lived a year of heartbreak of not only losing his wife but of being accused by the people in his town of having something to do with her disappearance. My heart went out to him and his daughter. Josie’s dreams fell through but she is picking up the pieces of her life and finding a new way. The bomb dropped at the end is a surprising twist and I can not wait to see what happens next in these great characters story. Anna Omasta, thank you for this great story and the emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Ann Omasta is an entertaining storyteller, she not only created these characters but she also brought them to life right off the pages. She her characters they own voice and personality, she did a great job projecting the emotions of the characters and the drama of the story into her performance. Thank you for this great listen🎧
This story begins with a suspense, which is the disappearance of Alex Biggs's wife, Claire, and almost everyone thinks he's behind her disappearance. The whole city practically turns its back on him. With summer approaching, Alex needs a nanny to be with his daughter, Hannah, the sweet little girl. Josie Michaels has trained her entire life to win an Olympic gold medal, but when an injury steals her ability to swin competitively, she goes back to Brunswick Bay and ends up getting Hannah's nanny job. The relationship between Alex and Josie is cautious, as she still doesn't completely trust him, but little Hannah blossoms in Josie's care and manages to spend happy times with them. When unexpected events threaten the relationship they have built, will they be able to overcome it? This story ends in a cliffhanger and I'm anxious to read the rest of the story. I highly recommend the reading.
I felt sorry that Alex was ostracized by the people of the town in which he grew up. My initial thought was wondering what kind of people lived there, and were the police even investigating Claire being missing?
It was obvious from the beginning that Josie and Alex would develop a relationship, especially since she was the only person interacting with him. To top it off, Josie and Hannah were crazy about each other.
My main issues with this book was that it was a little too long for it to end up being a cliffhanger. I wouldn't have bothered to get started had I known it ended in a cliffhanger. I try to avoid them.
The narration was ok. It was more like someone reading the book to me than someone who was really engaged in the story. I would give this book 3.5 stars.
I voluntarily listened to and reviewed this audio book received from the author.
I literally could not put this book down. Between waiting to see if Alex and Josie would ever hook up and if Alex was truly a killer, I couldn’t wait to read from chapter to chapter.
The author did a great job of character development and in the beginning I too had to remind myself that the few women who escaped from Ted Bundt said he was charming. What can I say, Alex is not overly charming, but he comes across as a truly troubled and heartbroken man whose precious wife has gone missing. And while the whole town thinks of his as a killer, the nanny to his little girl slowly starts to trust and believe in his innocence.
No spoilers, but it appears that Alex and Josie will get their happy ever after, until late one evening when the door handle turns and in walks ......... Alex’s wife, Claire.....
I really hate cliff hangers, but dang if I didn’t love this one.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A little different from Ann’s usual stories. I knew going in, having read another review there was a cliffhanger and I was a little put off and not a happy reader but OMGOSH-this story captivated me. I found it a bit slow at the start but the ending, did me in and I can not wait for the last book. This story was is about Josie and Alex. They both comes from troubled pasts and, in fact, the whole town believes Alex is a monster. Josie’s Aunt Mimi basically pushes this couple together especially since she wholeheartedly believes Alex is innocent. Once the story gets going, it becomes so compelling it’s addictive. The ending leaves you needing to know what happened to Alex’s wife, Claire then - wait for it! OMGOSH! Don’t miss this amazing read or the next one to come.

Shattered Diamonds is the first book that I have read by Ann Omasta so I was not sure what to expect. But the description looked like it would be a sweet romance that I could get lost in for a few hours. This is exactly what happened as I got wrapped up in the very slow moving love affair between Josie and Alex.
This book does have a cliffhanger so be warned. I found it a bit Harlequinnie for me, which is not my usual reading material, but it did not put me off enjoying reading it. I found that Ann wrote a cohesive story with well developed characters. Plus she added in a lot of emotional, heart-string pulling moments as you root for Josie and Alex to find their HEA.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
