She must prove there's more to life than peace and more to death than dying. The One People find guidance to peace and unity in the pages of TRANQUILITY. Drethene views the methods prescribed in the book as hurtful attempts to escape their diverse ancestry. Such pain is personal, as her parents aim to conceal how different she looks from the rest of their people. Even her job keeps Drethene quiet and secluded. While working in the Academy library, she secretly reads histories used only to teach future leaders to loathe the past. Drethene is inspired by these books filled with cultural variety. When she discovers another world as part of her people's heritage, a well-established enemy is revealed, and she rises to meet the truth and save both worlds. Now Drethene must convince the One People that their lives are not as tranquil as they seem. They are being hunted and must reunite with a sister-world that has been erased from their past. If they choose to remain in the comfort of their rewritten history and false sense of peace, they will be dragged into the maelstrom they have forgotten to fear.

In this wonderfully captivating fantasy novel, diversity has literally been bred out of the world – with a few notably jarring exceptions, including our spunky dark-haired heroine, Drethene, and her best friend, Trem. Humanity’s only goal is to follow its guidebook, Tranquility, and thereby "Keep the Peace” – which Drethene seems born to disrupt by both her appearance and her actions.
But evil forces are at work in this otherwise beautiful lakeside community, and it’s up to Drethene to persuade her people to wake up and smell the danger of apathy before it’s too late. With characters you won’t soon forget, and a full-of-surprises story that will keep you glued to your book (or Kindle!), Tranquility weaves its magic spell to join the classics of the fantasy genre with uplifting messages of faith, hope, love, and even humor.
Take a journey into the magical world of Tranquility – you might even find yourself more inclined to question the value of “Keeping the Peace” in your own world!
[Please note that I was fortunate to copy edit an early version of this amazing novel. However, please don’t let that cloud your opinion of this review. I promised the author then, and I promise you now, my review is honest, my opinions are my own, and I get no compensation for this review. Even knowing most of what was going to happen in the story when it was published, I was once again delighted with its engaging characters, its page-turning plot, and its cliffhanger ending, which left me breathless and applauding, eager for more. And IMHO, that’s the only problem with the novel Tranquility – now we all have to wait for the sequel to be published!]
Tranquility is a story as wondrous as its name. Drethene, the main character, lives in a world where there is no such thing as diversity. Everyone is the same and lives according to Tranquility. Their lives are tranquil, from beginning to end. Drethene is one of the very, very few, who is slightly different. When she begins to question everything around her and searches through their history, she discovers a dangerous secret. Their world was not always 'tranquil'. Instead, they were part of a sister-world, which had been long forgotten. But the real trouble begins, when she discovers that there was a purpose behind this division, and it has nothing to do with tranquility, but rather an evil plan.
I enjoyed reading this one from beginning to end. The world building was amazing and allowed me to sink right in. The characters, including Drethene, are well depicted and grab with their different personalities and problems. The tale is well woven with just the right amount of tension at the right time, which glides deeper and deeper into the mystery behind the history. I loved the entire idea behind this one, and found it, in many ways, refreshing and intriguing. It's definitely worth a read.
I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed reading this one from start to finish. So, I'm leaving my honest thoughts.
Christa’s writing is beautifully descriptive and I found myself “walking beside” the characters. For me, the best tales are visual and make me feel like I am a member of the cast. The author managed to do this for me in an amazing way. It is magical, thrilling and frightening.
The first half of the book was a very slow read for me. I found it to be very compact or dense, so I could only read and take in a little at a time. It began to flow at chapter eleven at which point I could not put the book down and completed it in one sitting!
Although I am not typically a fantasy fan, I truly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it. I am looking forward to the sequel!
Tranquility is the next upcoming book to read! The author spins her tale in a real and imaginative way. The reader is drawn into the story and becomes a part of the written journey. I am so excited for the next Book and for the movie that will come from this amazing whimsical and magical story telling. Please make this in a Hard copy book to add to collector editions of famous books!
To delve into Christa Conklin’s land of Tranquility is an opportunity to revisit the woods and meadows and all the mysterious corners of youthful imagination. Conklin’s lyrical descriptions took me to the haunts of fairies and unicorns, rings and hidden passages, and, of course, good and evil. I was disappointed on the last page that I was left with more questions than answers but pleased to find out there could be a sequel in the works.
I read an early review copy and couldn't wait for the finished book, which I bought on the first day it came out. Christa paints us a world full of interesting characters and places. For everyone who wants to go against the grain and question the "by the book" way, this is for you. Looking forward to the sequel!
