After graduating college and arriving home to Painter Place in the summer of 1960, a young bachelor named Wyeth Painter dreams of living a quiet life. But his father sends him to London to teach an art class where he meets and falls for model Chrissy Carnet, an American from D.C. By the time he discovers the stunning young lady's father is a fearsome international spy who brought them together, Wyeth's heart is in chaos.
But Chrissy is determined to follow him and daydreams of creating a home on his island. With the Island Summer Dance looming ahead, Wyeth tries to protect Painter Place from any danger her presence might bring. Will Wyeth force himself to get over her, or can both their dreams intertwine and come true?
Pamela Poole writes inspirational mystery and suspense that explore the intersection of faith, history, and the unseen spiritual realm. Her stories are grounded in a clear Christian worldview and shaped by a deep respect for both historical preservation and biblical truth.
With a love for unusual old houses and the stories embedded within them, Pamela creates compelling mysteries where the past presses into the present—and faith becomes essential to discernment and courage. Her characters are ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges, learning to trust Jesus when darkness threatens and answers are not easily found.
Pamela is the author of the Strange Sands Suspense series and the Painter Place Saga, blending richly detailed settings with themes of calling, obedience, redemption, and spiritual warfare. Her fiction offers clean, thought-provoking suspense designed both to engage the imagination and to encourage the heart.
When she isn’t writing, Pamela enjoys research, painting in her art studio, travel, and time spent near the coast—places where history lingers and inspiration quietly waits to be uncovered.
I struggled with this book, and it does highlight the values I hold dear, but it is the first book in this series that I have read, and I felt lost most of the time. There is romance here, good clean romance, with the values of a deep Christian Faith, and I agreed with all that was offered, and I really loved the compassion given to those who have sinned. I did love how these characters kept to their Christian values throughout their lives, and they were tested and tempted everywhere! I love the description of this beautiful island that they lived on in South Carolina, and that it was settled by the Painter Family, and the home, which made me want the room with the veranda with the ocean view. A sweet romance, a bit of mystery and an epilogue!
I received this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to give a positive review.
I LOVED this book! For one thing I LOVE all of the Faith messages and morale examples for dating! If the goals of these characters were still the goals of young people today what a different world we would have. Secondly, each time I pick up one of these books it's like getting together with old friends. And lastly, but certainly not leastly, I love that "Landmark" is a look back or like a prequel to the series. We get to see what the older generation went through and how everyone met. And boy is that fun! If I didn't love these characters before I REALLY love them now! Especially Camellia! She is GREAT and kept making me laugh! I really enjoyed getting to know another generation of this family tree as well. I LOVE Painter Place no matter what time it's set in. I LOVE how I can really relate to these characters and this island even; though I live in the high deserts of NM I still feel a deep connection to these characters! And without giving anything away I absolutely love how Pamela ends this one. Though I also love how she starts this one. I guess it's safe to say I just really love this book!
It was so nice to travel back to the 1960's and find out about characters as they grew up in this charming series. I love how the author captures the innocence and curiosity of the characters who would one day be important in the art and business world. I found it interesting that the author chose to write this story as the fourth in the series. It gives us a glimpse how the characters met and remind us of how much faith is an important part of their lives.
The beautiful backdrop of Painter's Place is the perfect setting for this enchanting saga. I loved reading about Wyeth and how he matured into a very gifted artist. His romance with Christy is quite intriguing and helped me understand the emotions they went through. It was refreshing to see how important it was to have a relationship that followed God's plan. At times I could feel the struggle they had which helps readers see that everyone faces hard decisions at times.
As with the other books in the series, we get an added bonus of a mystery that was fun to follow. The addition of Christy's dad as a spy was indeed a twist for me. How would you like to be in a family where bodyguards were always around? It was hard for Christy to be alone with Wyeth as she always had someone watching. This part of the story brought a unique look at a family that had secrets to hide. I wonder if Wyeth knew what he was getting into when he started dating Christy?
The story is emotional, filled with faith and gives readers a glimpse inside how it all started in this well written series. You can tell over the last three books how much the author has grown in her craft. Each book is stronger and never sways from details that make you feel as if you are there watching the story unfold. I love how she has become more creative and descriptive in the stories. This is a book you will want to read and get inspired by the faith element in the story.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

MyThoughts: I truly adored this series! Pamela Poole not only creates with mixed media but with words, to present the reader a storyline that they can truly become a part of. I felt so welcome in this family and it's how the characters are presented. A warm loving God-centered family who raise their children to love God first; then love their family and keep them close. I enjoyed the way the author brought us to Whitehaven in the 1960s to learn more about how Phillip, Andy, and Wyeth grew up and met their spouses. The ending was incredible and brings the whole series together; giving some answers to questions the readers may have in the previous books. This novel can stand alone to be read, it can be read first if you like, or you can read the series in sequence. Whichever way you chose to read it, the important thing is to read it.
This is a book that is based on Christian values in many different situations. It is a must-read. I look forward to reading more from Pamela Poole.
I've never read a Christian fiction set in South Carolina "Lowcountry" so I was really intrigued by the kind of old south vibe you get from this book set in the 1960s. Apparently it pertains to the past of characters in this series, so I feel like, although it serves well as a standalone, I was a little lost jumping into the story. I would definitely recommend going back and reading the series before reading this flashback book, because I just felt like I couldn't get into it well without reading that. I found the multiple storylines to weave together well, and I found the romance within a slow, enjoyable blossoming to read. I felt like the plot was a little choppy as it jumped from one storyline to the other, but I enjoyed the thread of faith that connected it all. There was also a bit of intrigue, but not enough to throw someone off who is looking for a nice romance book that doesn't have a lot of suspense. The characters were nice, I just didn't connect with them very well. I'm giving 4 stars because I really feel if I had read more of the series I would have found more enjoyment. Overall, if you're looking for a kind of old south, faith-filled sweet romance, this one is for you.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, and all opinions given are entirely my own.
Having read all the other books in the Painter Place Saga, I was excited to have the opportunity to review Landmark by Pamela Poole. This author has the ability to create characters, locations, and settings that bring her stories to life. I love the incredible amount of details and information she gives. The emotions she brings to life touch my soul. Having read about Wyeth as an uncle and established artist in the earlier books and about his wife Christy, I looked forward to getting to know them when they were younger.
This book did not disappoint. The Christian faith demonstrated by the main characters in this story pulled me in along with their values and convictions. While I knew the charactes from the. earlier books, I loved reading about how they met the people they would eventually marry andhave children with that I read about in the earlier books.
The details and emotions expressed in the pages of this book as well as the earlier ones in the series make me feel I am actually present in the story. Truly this book and the entire series are books worth reading. So check out Landmark for yourself.
I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.
This was a story that takes place in the 1960's about families who are trying to instill in their children righteous ways. It is about an old Island that a family owns off of South Carolina that is very prestigious and the lead families are wealthy. Their sons are grown and looking for godly wives and this is their story.
We do get more than one love story, I liked that. This almost reminds me of the Biblical story of when Abraham sends his servant to find a wife for Isaac. If only all parents took such interest and care in their children. To raise them up right and trust them enough to make the right decisions.
Along with the romance we have a little mystery as well. The author used her own painting on the cover of the book which I find very pretty. This was an interesting and unique read.
I received a copy of this novel from the auhtor. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
" Landmark" by Pamela Poole is there 4th book in this series. I think it would be ok to read this book first because it is how the Painter family got their start. I admit I like the other three books better, but I am glad that the author wrote this book because after reading it, I understand the characters from the first three books better and why they did some of the things they did in the other three books. This book is not about Carolina or the other characters that was in the other three books but this is a story about how there parents meet. It is a good read but it lacks the danger elements that the other books has. Still a 4 star read.
I recommend reading this entire series, you won't be disappointed. It is a saga that truly shows what faith can do. It is clean loves and shows real love, trust and forgiveness.
I received a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.
Landmark is the last book in the series for the Painter Place Saga. It is a complete on its own. You don’t have to read the other book first. I have read the books, which were good, but this one is definitely a stand alone.
The book is a historical but not that far back. It is set in the 1960’s mostly at Charleston, South Carolina. The love story of Wyeth and Chrissy, also of Phillip and Camellia.
It was a wonderful book to read. Nothing read exciting that happened like in the other books. Which was good, it was a nice calm book to enjoy. Also loved the inspirational part of the book from the book that really spoke to me.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit. This book review is my own opinion.
This was my first book by this author but definitely not the last!! The author has written a touching clean romance with a refreshing Christian perspective. It has the added benefit of a beautiful location. There are some issues that the couples need to work through but they try to follow God's will for their relationships. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author!
What I think you should know: Landmark is the fourth book in the Painter’s Place Saga. While it is the fourth book it is a prequel set in 1960 before “ The Big Three” Wyeth, Andy and Phillip met their wives and were married. I feel that this book could be read first and the reader would be able to appreciate the story without having read the first three books in the saga.
What I enjoyed the most: Pamela Poole, the author has written another book that captured my heart and my imagination. I love how she included songs and lyrics that people could have been listening to when this novel took place. I really enjoyed getting to know The Big Three and how their experiences guided them in the raising of the next generation of Painter’s Place. I appreciate their faith and how it shines throughout the book. If you have never read a Painter’s Place novel this would be a great place to start!
Who will love this book: Fans of Christian Fiction 60s fanatics Anyone who wants a clean romance novel.
I received a complimentary copy for this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
