Darkblood Academy #2

Supernatural Slayer Squad

Rate this book

Welcome to the Supernatural Slayer Squad!

Our task is simple. Kill all the demon baddies before they wreak havoc on the human realm and destroy the fragile peace between our two worlds. Easy peasy, right?

Well, if I can’t figure out how to get this devil’s mark off my chest, the demons won’t stop coming for me. Luckily, my long lost father has shown up promising to help me get rid of it. But do I really want a dark warlock’s help?

Then there’s my love life—or serious lack there of. I broke all the rules my first semester, and the worst was falling for my demon bad boy instructor. Our so-called relationship is strictly forbidden and if he can’t get his inner demon under control, we’re totally screwed.

To make matters worse, the dark lord of the Underworld has set her sights on me and my unique powers. She’s dead set on making the human world her evil minions’ playground and thinks I’m the key to stopping her.

So I guess I have to be…

***This is an upper YA/NA crossover with schmexy supernatural guys and is best suited for age 16 and over. Be warned, the steaminess factor does increase through the course of the series!

G.K. DeRosa

G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. In fact, before she could even read, she tried fooling everyone into thinking that she could. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German Shepherd.

What the FU*K did just happen?! I’m torn apart, I’m crying, I’m mad, I’m sad, I want to scream...

I started this book yesterday around 8 pm and I’m done now at 12:20pm!

This book is what I call ADDICTING! You literally can’t put it down! I have no idea what the amazing author just did to my heart, but I don’t want it back!

I hope that the 3rd book will be out soon and I hope we’ll get at least 30 books ❤️

Otherwise:
The story itself was really good! I wouldn’t expect any less from this one. I loved the first book and I was afraid that I would like the second one as much, but the opposite happened and omg 😭😍❤️

Luna = I loved her in the first book, mostly because of who she is and how she’s dealing with her things. I loved how her character developed since the first book and I also love the new enhancements, let’s say.

Ryder = I looove Ryder a lot! He is in my TOP 3 book bad boys/lovers and I just don’t think the book would be the same without him!

Anyone else?
Well, there are parts where my heart sunk so deep I thought I would die..then at some parts I was extremely happy for some characters.
For me it depends on who I like and who I don’t.
I like Cinder a lot! The way she’s been supporting Luna from the start and how they became BFF, keep secrets and more.

I’m afraid I won’t say much about this book, because you either HAVE TO READ it and join us all, or you can just be blind and not enjoy your life at all!

On the fence, character and world is cool but development is bleh. The things the irked me the most was Luna having a human best friend but as soon as she gets into the school no contact whatsoever I mean Jay practically got replaced by Cinder. Oh and that sad plot twist I’d hope would spur the characters into training harder etc. but it didn’t really add much like I feel it disintegrated need to happen at all. Also I feel as if Drake would be a better end game love interest than Ryder... there! I said it!

This series is getting better and better with each book!

After just one semester, Luna feels as if she has finally found a home at Darkhen Academy. Despite the demon who marked her and wants to take her to his Demon Lord. Despite the fact she and her smoldering Combat instructor Ryder are head over heels for each other. Despite the fact that said relationship is completely forbidden. And despite the fact she is now part of the eight member Supernatural Slayer Squad on campus.

Luna being demon-marked with a 6-6-6 is causing all kinds of trouble, and no one, not even Ryder or Headmaster Cillian, can figure out how to get rid of it. And as long as she’s marked, random demons will make their way through the wards of the Academy in an effort to snatch her to the Underworld.

Since humans became aware of supes, harmful creatures from the Underworld have been sneaking past the protective wards and murdering humans, threatening the very integration many had worked for. But there are others who still believe the two worlds should be separate are doing everything they can to bring back the old ways.

This was really great! There is some love triangle action happening, upper level demons, a main character death, and a hex of a cliffhanger! So happy to see Ryder get top billing in this series as I felt he really didn’t get the attention he deserved in Hitched.

Mixed feelings...some spoilers

I was excited to start reading more about characters I grew to love in the first book.. but the author decided to do a more sad theme in this book. Normally, I would say that made the book more memorable and that the sad parts made the book even greater because it was so heartfelt. And I love being moved by a book. But that is not the case with this book. The devastating part written in the middle of this book to cause angst really did not add to the story. No major plot twist or Discovery. No necessary sacrifice...Nada... in fact I think the book would have been so much better without it. And now...the ending went totally left field... probably to open the door to another love interest at the expense of another. So I’m having mixed feelings if I want to even continue with this series or not. Jury is out for now..

Darkblood Academy (Supernatural Slayer Squad) Book Two

I really love what this Author has done with this series. It ramped up in every way in this book. The sexual tension between Luna & Ryder is a deep & dark smolder that can burst to life at any moment, it's delicious!!🔥💘🔥

Garrix, Luna's Dad, is in this book a lot more. Luna needs him to break the Demon seal on her, she's become a beacon for attacks. One of his attempts loosens her powers, many were blocked!😳 She works more closely & becomes friends with the Fae Prince, Raine hates that development!!🙈

The are revelations & shocks, fights & deaths, laughter & tears then utter devastation!!😭💔💥 I was utterly gripped throughout this read. It's another fantastic addition to this world!!🌎

I'm enjoying this series so far. I'm not sure I like it as much as Hitched but it's an entertaining series. there are two things I want to say about it though.
1. There is a lot of time jumping. What I mean is something will happen then the next chapter will say something like " The next two months I jumped into my regular routine of training and classes." And I understand each book is a year's time so there needs to be some skipping ahead but I feel like I missed out on all of her fun training. We never really see her train with Ryder or get an idea about any of the other spells and such she learns. In the middle of the fight, she's using a spell and saying it's something she learned months ago. For being such short books I think some of that fun stuff could have been added but she just goes from not knowing how to use her powers to be able to use them without watching her learn. I just felt it was a missed opportunity to watch Luna develop and to watch the team as a whole grow.
Ok now the hard part. I found something slightly disturbing and I didn't see any mention of it in other reviews so I feel the need to point it out... Also, it happens again in book 3.

Let’s just say I would not recommend this book to anyone above 20. And that’s a stretch. For that reason, I’m foregoing rating this book.

It was juvenile, whiny and very very heavy on the telling with barely any descriptions. It was also repetitive and damn cliffhangers made me want to smack someone instead of reading the next book.

Then there was this whole Judeo-Christian meets, vampire werewolves, fae, witches, warlocks, demons, dragons vibe, meet pocket universes. It was all to confusing to figure out which mythology I was supposed to be grounded in. There was just a hodgepodge with no string to tie them together, no real commonalities or history or origin. I don’t mind the hodgepodge when done logically and explained nicely like in all the Shadow Hunters books. This just felt like chaos.

Then there were the things that just didn’t make sense. Inter-species relationships existed throughout the book, and yet the school was made of factions that didn’t intermingle? 🙄

This is all without going into the world build, which was not particularly good and mostly non-existent. The lack of description beside ‘cold’, ‘winter’, ‘spring’ ‘trees’ and ‘forest’ was very telling on the world. The fight scenes fell flat and so were the characters.

The author seemed to have picked all the hot teen checklist that may have sold in other teen books, then marked them off in this series. There was the popular kids with some weird moniker, some douche bags, jealous mean girls, the douche bag destined for an arranged marriage, and an over protective hot head whose every other line was some ridiculous promise he couldn’t possibly keep. Then there was the main character who drifted between stupidly helpless and powerful but still too stupid to live.

I honestly do not understand the logic of writing characters who choose to assert independence away from their protectors, to do some dumb crap, especially when they know they are in danger. Is the purpose to piss of readers! Because mission freaking accomplished!

In conclusion, the story that should have transcended felt juvenile in its delivery.

I love this Authors fantasy books and was looking forward to the release of book.2. In this Darkblood Academy Series. One of the things I love most about G.K.Derosa is her ability to construct a world that you never question the logic, status or it’s place in the world, it’s descriptive enough to feel, yet doesn’t distract from the storyline, it only enhances the atmosphere. The storyline continues as Luna becomes more a part of the Supernatural Slayer Team, her powers start to develop, but she starts to realise that not all of them are always on the light side of magic, meaning more secrets and lies. Her friendships with the team grows, especially as a certain Ice Prince shows his more human side, both good and bad. As the demon attacks are driven out of Darkblood Academy, new threats arise with devastating consequences. Changes in her family ties boost her confidence, putting a bigger target on her back. A certain hot demon instructor becomes more protective, making the heat between them reach near boiling point. I love this love interest, it’s intensity makes for some toe curling reading. A look but don’t touch rule drives Luna to branch out to others, as she try’s to ignore the man she really wants. This action packed series continues to ramp up both physically and emotionally, as we get to learn more about the characters personalities, which I personally liked, as Finding out what makes people tick adds more depth and reason for some of their actions. Once again, G.K.Derosa has hit the nail on the head, constructing a strong consistent world with fascinating characters. The ending absolutely floored & shocked me, it was lovely one minute then devastating the next, my jaw was left hanging open, with utter disbelief at this turn of events, this has left me half desperate for book.3. and half with dread. Ok 💯 % desperate for the book, but I really, really hope it’s not true.

It's constant action going on here, I hardly have time to catch my breath before something new is happening! Some things I see coming, others I don't. I usually like to be surprised, but especially one incident I didn't see the point of. Without giving any spoilers, all I can say is that this event didn't effect the story in any way, as I see it. To me it felt totally unnecessary.

I still think that Luna is acting a bit too childish at times, but I really like the way her powers evolve - and her with them. I like the other characters too, especially Drake has gotten my attention. The heat between Luna and Ryder only increases, but since any relationship between teacher and student is strictly forbidden they can't act on it. Or can they...?

I'm not sure what to think about the ending. I guess it depends on what the author is planning next... I'm definitely looking forward to spend more time with Luna and the others on the Supernatural Slayer Squad!

I received an ARC from the author.

I am in love with the world G.K. DeRosa has created in her Darkblood Academy series, so when I got my hands on book two; I couldn’t help but devour it. Book two explores more of the dynamics between Luna and the supe squad and Luna and her father as she tries to get a handle on her abilities, all while taking the reader on a wild ride of ‘who’s after Luna from the underworld and what do they want’. Then there’s the potential wrench in the love department where Drake is concerned to add to the tension. This book had everything I could hope for with it’s twists, turns, and mysteries. It broke my heart, had it soaring, and then stopped it all together with that jaw-dropping ending. I need book three, stat!

I can't express how good this series is. This book is even better than the first (and that one is fantastic!). Luna really belongs and her team members are proving it. She is beginning a relationship with her dad, Ryder is finding it harder and harder to keep his distance, and her powers are getting stronger. She has a new power that kinda scares her and the demon that marked her is not giving up. Don't cheat yourself out of an enthralling adventure. My heart was broken at the ending, but it gives me more incentive not to miss book three. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.

So I thought book one was fantastic and really looked forward to this second book and it did not let me down! Every bit as good as the first we continue with Luna’s journey in the supernatural slayer squad! The world Building is excellent and I love the characters growth and I have to say the continuing storyline just sucks you in from the first page. Tons of action, drama, romance and twists and turns, this is one academy series you do not want to miss!

I received a free copy for an honest review. This book was amazing! I think it’s possibly my favorite out of all of them. Luna is becoming even more awesome than she already was. The Supernatural Slayer Squad is also growing in power and Luna is starting to feel at home in her new world. I’d give this book more than five stars if I could.

I loved all the action and thrills inside this story. Characters are amazing and grown in the second book. I hate a stagnant character so this story does not disappoint at all. Lots of magic and surprises abound. I have to highly recommend this book.

This second installment rocked me! The drama, the heartbreak times two, and a massive cliff hanger; I just don't even know what to say without giving away major spoilers!!! I love the growing relationship with the team and even with her dad. There is just so much I want to say and so much I want to shout about, but I can't because I do not want to ruin this book for anyone else. i love this series. It's fantastically written and you can't help to be drawn into the world and characters. This book wrecked me in so many ways. I can't wait for the next one. I volunteered to read this book.

Book 2 continues where one left off and continues Luna's action packed journey. Just when you think you know what is going on the author throws a twist you don't see coming. I promise this is a series you will have a hard time putting down. I look forward to seeing where the author takes us next

Okay, let's start off with how the writing in this novel and plot line was so much better than the first book. Also, I feel like there were much more interactions written in this novel. I really felt the chemistry between Ryder and Luna. However, I felt like some scenes were cut too short like when the "tragedy" struck it could have been expanded a bit more I felt like w=it was wrapped up too quickly. BUT THE ENDING REALLY DID NOT DO ME JUSTICE LIKE WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK..... That's not the ending I expected or wanted and I'm left speechless.

A great read. From start to finish. A fast paced action packed read, with twists and turns you don't see coming. If you are a lover of the Supernatural World then this is the read for you. The Author has done an awesome job at world building and bringing the Characters out as well. I felt like I could visually see the Characters and scenes as I read. I definitely recommend this read.

Another great installment of Darkblood Academy! We get to know the characters better in this book as Luna's relationships grow with the other members of "the 7," or 8, as it is now. There are some really sad bits, exciting parts, and parts that make you want to scream with frustration. However you're feeling, you're FEELING, which is what makes these books, and their predecessors- The Hitched Series- so great.
The writing is excellent, the world-building is amazing and the romantic tension is h-o-t. Loved it! Can't wait for the next!
