Turning the one-time seaside B & B into a Halloween haunted house for a local fundraiser seems like a good idea. After all, Eva and Marie’s ghosts are willing to help. However, the two spirit friends of Marlow House are not the only ghosts to stop by. Danielle and her friends are about to learn there might be something to that old legend that says on Halloween night the barrier between the living and dead becomes blurred and the spirits of the dead visit earth. Maybe not all of earth—but at least Marlow House.
Walt, Danielle and their friends are so well written you feel like you know them all and are included in their circle. And as soon as one book is finished you immediately want to read the next! Keep writing...but faster. 😂
Danielle and the gang often forget that they can see ghosts. I wish they would always keep in the back of their minds that someone might be a ghost, especially because the ghosts' behavior can be so annoying.
As per usual, I continue to love this Haunting Danielle series. I do not know what I will do when the whole series wraps up. It is just one of those that completely grab me. :)
Halloween is considered the time of the year when the veil is the thinnest between the living and the dead. So why would the mediums living on Beach Drive think it was a good idea to use Marlow House as a Halloween fundraiser? When Danielle and Walt lost their license to have a Bed and Breakfast business. They decided that they enjoyed having people around, and to that end, they began hosting fundraisers for charitable organizations around the town. But in doing so, this was a "calling" to all the ghosts out there with unfinished business needing help to move to the other side. How will the Marlows get out of this mess they've gotten themselves into?
I just love this series and would rate it my very favorite. However, this book was over and above all the others I read. I read them in order and this one was perfect timing. I read it on October 30.
Yes, the series does keep on getting better. In this one, Danielle and her husband and friends, most of them mediums who can interact with spirits, open Marlow House as a haunted house for Halloween as a local fund raiser. Little do the visitors know that Marlow House has always been a haunted house! The friendly ghosts who visit there also donate their time to making the house extra spooky. But how did muddy footprints get behind a locked door to a secret passage? When Danielle and Walt discover the how they get accidentally trapped in a place that no one knows exists.
I love how the author introduces a story that happened many years ago and then brings it forward to be solved in an almost casual way. Not to say that there isn't some twists and turns along the way. I'm always baffled. The only problem with this series is that the books are so good that I race through the one I'm reading and then I'm done. If I race too fast I will outread the author writing them. And I do not want to be without another book to look forward to!
Try, try, try this series but do begin at book #1.
This series is getting so good. I like the way some story lines are wrapping up, while others are getting very interesting. Love Eva and Marie, and I still say it's just a matter of time before Brian is brought into the club. The only down side is I'm all caught up now and waiting for the next book. Lol Enjoy
What a great story this one was. There were more ghosts than you would shake a stick at. It was good to meet them and discover how they fit in Walts life. You will meet a young girl who thinks no one wants her and a few more. Who knew Halloween could do enlightening.
This series just gets better and better, just when you think Bobbi Holmes has ran out of storyline she hit us with a good one. I can't help but dislike Kelly and Joe, they're always minding someone else's business. Love Danielle and Walt, I highly recommend this book and series. Adding the audio narration was excellent.
I have been enjoying this series for a long time but this one, not so much. First, this may be a silly objection, but I really dislike the author's persistence in calling the group who can see ghosts: Danielle, Chris, Heather, Walt and Evan, "mediums." It may be a correct word but first, it de-personalizes each of the characters (is the author too lazy to type our the list of names?) and second, the word has bad connotations. The word medium conjures up charlatans and fakes for the most part, at least in my mind. That being said, I thought the story itself was sloppy and not very cohesive. Apparently on Halloween all the ghosts are free to roam, whether they are "stuck" in the cemetery or not so it's no surprise that a lot of them somehow end up at Marlow House and join in to help with the haunted house special effects. Too many cross storylines and disjointed issues that the ghosts are wanting resolved just didn't work for me. And despite the freedom to roam granted other ghosts, for some reason "resident ghosts" Eva and Marie were told to make themselves scarce during Halloween. What was that about? Not a satisfying effort.
This was a cute Halloween story, but I did not realize it was #22 in a series and so I had a hard time catching on to the pasts of all of the main characters. The Marlow Mansion is the site of a Halloween Haunted house for a little while in October, only they don’t actually have to fake the ghosts because they have real ghosts helping with the hauntings! Danielle and Walt Marlow are running the show, and both can see ghosts, but they have a whole slew of Mediums as friends that also help. It’s a little bit mystery, a little bit small town tale, and a little bit spooky. Overall I think it was a clean and fun story - I just didn’t know the characters well because I hadn’t read any previous books in the series.
Halloween is the season setting for this 22nd book in the series. Danielle and Walt are holding a charity haunted house and all of their friends are chipping in to help. It also seems several uninvited guests are "helping" with the haunting. Halloween is a time when spirits can contact the living, but Walt and Danielle don't know who is pouring tea from a floating teacup or who got into the hidden stairway. A couple of ghosts manifest themselves so well, they are visible to Lily. One point to note is that Max, and perhaps all cats, are extremely literal and do not mince words when letting one come to terms with being dead. This was another fun romp with familiar characters.
How do these books get such high ratings? Don’t get me wrong, they’re pleasant enough, but they aren’t even four-star reads, never mind five-star. In this particular volume I was unable to ascertain the protagonist’s worries about publicly (?) acknowledging that she has a secret staircase in her home. Yes, it’s an important plot point, but the fact that she frets about having to “confess” to friends, family, and the police chief that it exists is ludicrous. It’s a private home; she’s not obligated to share that information with anyone. There are certainly other minor annoyances, but I do enjoy holiday-themed mysteries, so I generally overlook them.
This book was better than the last one, with plenty of action from the friendly ghosts, and a few extras, since it's Halloween and all the other ghosts are allowed to go out and play. Some of them were very helpful in solving the mystery, although I thought the additional "secret" was a little too convenient. I guess the author has to find SOMETHING to write about. Pearl next door (aka Mrs. Kravitz, ha ha) is pretty annoying, but I have a feeling she'll be pretty integral to some future novel. It's all becoming a bit of a soap opera, with new characters coming and going. Not sure I'll make it to the end of the series, but I'm enjoying it so far.
Another fun entry in the series, with a few new ghosts. There was some mention of Hallowen being a pagan holliday, which was true before Christianity gained a foothold, but it has long been All Hollow's Eve, the night before All Saints Day in the Catholic Church. It's a time spent praying to saints, and praying for the souls of those departed. Few remember that now; in fact, one of most enjoyable aspects of Hallowen is its inclusivity. But read the book and enjoy Danielle's haunted house!
This happens to be one of the best series ever!!! I loved this book....was kinda creepy at two parts. All these books have a great mystery to them. Keeps me guessing all the time!!! I’m hoping the series never ends...these books have so much potential to stay going on and on !!! Now I just need to wait for the next one...thank goodness it comes out in about a month....I need my beach drive fix!!!! Happy Reading :)
This series continues to roll along with another Halloween story, which in my opinion, is the best of them yet.
Danielle decides to raise funds for charity by dressing Marlow house in full Halloween style along with the help of all the the regular characters but of course not everything goes according to plan!
I bought this book on it's issue but decided to keep it for reading on the run up to Halloween and it was worth it.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title. (Audible Membership)
Fund raising by turning Marlowe house into a haunted house seemed a good idea at the time. However, no one counted on the mischievous antics of the Ghosts that were allowed more freedom around the Halloween period. That plus another lot of treasure seekers, well, best read (or listen) to the author's rendition of this rather intriguing saga.
I'm not sure why I'm continuing with this series. I think it's because I like Walt and Max the cat. It's not really because I like any of the other characters. They're pretty unnuanced and one dimensional and have some appallingly old-fashioned views on how people should behave given they are set in the current decade.
Or maybe it's the times we're living in. They have caused me to need to binge listen a mindless, half-awful, cozy ghost crime series.
I got through the first seven chapters, and decided not to finish. (This is extremely rare for me) I wanted this book for a pallet cleanser, but I felt it was too scattered with multiple pov’s and had a difficult time following the story line. I will say that maybe it’s me. I love the idea of the book, and maybe if I was in a different head space it would have been different. I may try it again at a different time, but I don’t know.
Loved this series from the beginning. Writing, characters and plot will keep you guessing till the end. I can hardly put it down once I start. For me I really like the characters and how they all interact through each story. Hope you continue this series for many more adventures.
This book was not just simply fun, it was also endearing. Fun came in the form of good friends putting together a Halloween Haunted House. Endearing because the mystery centered around a young girl, a lonely, sad little girl who makes friends with Evan, the sheriff's youngest son. This was a great story. Loved it.
Well congrats yet again on this , 22nd book. Couldn't put it down. It's like water in a desert to a thirsty woman. My eyes eagerly drink the words from the pages. Danielle, Walt and (as now referred to as) the other mediums, embroiled me into the story. Worthy of anybody's time to read.
This is book 22 in the Haunting Danielle series. I have loved listening to these on audio. There have been a few along the way that weren't as engrossing as others and this was one of them but I can't really say why. Maybe simply because halloween isn't a favorite holiday of mine. It's a fun book however and I did listen to the whole story.
Very charming Halloween ghost story\mystery to read. I had not read any of the other books in the series, but did not feel like I couldn't follow the storyline because of that. The premise of the story is more about friendly spirits haunting a home then scary\spooky. The characters warm your heart as you get to know them and it feels like you're visiting with old friends.
The Ghost and the Halloween Haunt (A Haunting Danielle Book 22)
This was another winner. These Authors have wonderful imaginations. This series is wonderful. I love the characters and how they get along and the ghosts and how they get along with each other. I highly recommend all the books in tis series and I bet the other series are great too. Diana Romano
