Revised May 2019

Romance with another Agent is forbidden. Suddenly, Mike's out on the street alone with only his savings and a duffel bag. A new father at nineteen of a little girl that must live with her grandparents for her own safety, he tries to juggle the life of being a freelance demon hunter with birthdays and Christmases where he's only a friend of the family.

Until Hope figures out he's her father. Until her grandmother gets cancer. Until his first love returns home to meet their daughter for the first time.

Mike's one weakness will always be the women he loves--until Dr. Corinne Larkin saves his life after a savage beating. Independent, tough, smart, and beautiful, she slowly heals his spirit while becoming his best friend. But when he receives an offer he's dreamed about for sixteen years, he has to take it.

Corinne's E.R. residency has been pretty routine, until she finds a damaged man in an alley near the hospital. Mike is rough around the edges, but something about him calls to the healer in her. Through him, she makes friends in this new town, including his daughter Hope, and creates more ties than she ever intended--something way scarier than learning monsters and magic are real. Falling in love with Mike might be the greatest risk she's ever taken, especially when she has to let him go.

Will Mike return to the possibility of a new healthier future full of love, or stay mired in a dysfunctional past?

OUTCAST follows the journey of a paladin doing his best to keep the people he cares about alive in a world where monsters are real and there's a very good reason to be afraid of the dark. This story is intended for readers 18 and over due to adult language, sexual content, and adult situations.

77 chapters and an epilogue ...... my god ..... What should I think about this? But not 1 moment I had the idea that I was going to stop reading! I'm glad I didn't do that. What a story this was !!

In the beginning of the story you meet Michael who works for a London company that hunts down and demons. He is then 19 years old when he meets Bethany, who is 16. He falls for her, very hard and despite the rules he gets a relationship with her. 1 year later Hope is born and Michael is fired at the company. Hope was sent to her grandparents in America and Michael decides to travel there.
He is allowed to see her twixe a year; on her birhtday and with Christmas. After 13 years he receives a phone call from Bethany; her mother is not doing well and she is asking for his help. Bethany and Hope are always arguing with each other and life is not easy for everyone. When Bethany's mother dies, they will have to find a way together to give Hope a stable future. Michael has remained in love with Bethany all those years and cannot let go of their past even though she treats him terribly. Because he is so attached to his love for Bethany he would almost miss out on his chance of happiness .....

A beautifully written book in which we follow Michael and see him grow older and mature. The nice thing is that we also see his attitude and language change over the years. I thought he had a nice character. Hard on the outside, soft on the inside.
Hope grows up to be a wise young lady in the story. Her character gets more and more depth in the years with its own personality.
Bethany remains a self-centered person for me for a long time. At the end of the book I start to show some sympathy for her. Well done from the writer to shape her so that you can get more sympathy for her.

A beautiful story ..... but still open endings ..... What happens to Catherine and the daughter she got from Michael? And what about the black knights who approached Michael in 1986 and which brought Catherine into the story? I think I have to read the other parts to be able to read more about it ...

Mike belongs to the Agency and is a paladin, a demon hunter. One ironclad rule of the Agency is not to engage in a romantic relationship with another Agent – that is forbidden. But at 19, he and Bethany, 16, break the rule and Bethany’s pregnancy gives proof to what they have done. Mike is tossed out of the Agency, fired, but continues to perform as a paladin, hunting demons.

Mike’s daughter, Hope, had been sent to the U.S. to live with Bethany’s family. So Mike decides to go there and make an effort to know her and be a part of her life. He pretends to be a friend of the family, but Hope eventually starts to realize who he is – her father. How will this change things?

This is a very lengthy story that, although it is interesting, can be confusing in a rambling sort of way. At first, it was focused on Mike and his career with The Agency. When he broke the rules, it was about Mike and Bethany, then their daughter, Hope who is sent to the U.S. There was a connection with Dr. Corinne Larkin, working her routine E.R. residency until she finds a damaged man in an alley near the hospital and saves his life. Catherine also has time with him and gets pregnant, but I’m not sure what happens to them as the story continues on. But the story line does compel the reader to continue on in the story, and the characters are presented well. I didn’t like Bethany because of her treatment of Mike and Hope; but being a 16-year-old mom might excuse some of that. The book wasn’t bad, and I did enjoy it.

Magic. A land, Ossiria, that exists in an alternate dimension but impacts our own. Paladins, demons, witches, shifters and vampires. I’m so there. Also, superb addiction - as evidenced by my massive binge read through the prequel and first three books of Vivian Lane’s The First Vampires, namely Outcast, Protector & Goddess (Children of Ossiria, Book 0.5. 1, 2 & 3). I love the characters here, from Mike and his daughter Hope in book 1 (plus Hope’s former baby-mom Bathany, new interest Corinne, and future baby mom Catherine: its exhausting just listing then but it all works in the book), to Carys the Protecter in training and William the cursed vampire (who we met previously) and other great supporting characters (hello, Sarah). Really fun stuff. All extremely well done. Frankly, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed, and the fact that the publisher’s blurbs on these books are excellent, I could go on and on with praises. Each of these books definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next books in this series.

A new take on paladin warriors and paranormal

This book we follow the lives of Mike and Bethany which begins as teens training to become paladin warriors. The book moved through to current time. As teens they had a baby, and Bethany was the farthest thing from having motherly instinct. Sadly as they'd had a relationship the secretive Agency that runs the paladins suddenly boots Mike out on his bum, but keeps her in the organization. In the end baby Hope ends up with Bethany's folks. We follow all three relationships over time and see how demons and other paranormal come into play. All three deal with many issues, both paranormal and emotional. I for one was blown away with how Hope turns out. However, *SPOILER* I assumed Mike would learn he has another child out there at some point in the book, but it didn't come to pass. Though I have a sneaking suspicion he might've met said child in this book but didn't know it. The book read slightly slow for me. Whether it's because it's setting up the series I'm not sure. However I loved the character building, world building and look forward to seeing where the next book will take our characters 😊

Michael was a very interesting character and the way the author described his feelings, his flaws and desires sometimes made me feel sad. Read the book slowly. So many things happened in the story that needed my concentration and a good mood to bear some characters. I was caught up in the story. Keep thinking about Catherine. There were some things that I didn’t understand about this character that I liked and caught my attention immediately. Still intrigued about the ‘Paladin’ thing. Much drama in this story and I wanted to know more about the characters. The story had suspense, intrigue, violence, romance, sex and a lot of emotions some good others not so much. Requested a free copy from StoryOrigin to review because I lost my book. Already have Protector, the next book because I’m really intrigued.

I rather liked this story. It was a bit different then the usual paranormal romance and demon fighting. It followed mostly Mike as we watch him grow from a young 18 year old and his ups and downs with Bethany and his daughter Hope. The story had twist and turns that made me laugh, groan, and really want to smack Mike and Bethany a few times. But it was rather addicting like a train wreck that you know must be going to happen any time but you still have to keep watching just to see when and where. Did not emphasize the demon hunting but the daily life of a hunter instead. It did keep me reading to the end in one sitting and laughed at the ending. Plus as I read it I could see where the series could be going and that totally makes me want to keep reading. Just a different but fun story with a bit of steamy but not nasty love scenes.

A story with intrigue, suspense, violence, and romance that will take the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotional turmoil. The Author has created a land called Ossiria that exists in an alternate dimension.
The first book focuses on Mike and his troubled life.
Well written, a little slow at times, it has a vivid and colourful cast of characters involved in the plot and storyline.
There are paladins, ex-genies, witches and mortals. The interaction between them is good and they play of each other really well, each being strong and independent characters that support and enhance the storyline.
An amazing ride in the paranormal.
I look forward to the next book in the series.

This paranormal romance was intriguing and had plenty of suspense that will leave some readers wanting more and keep them on the edge of their seats. It was interesting to see these three relationships. It will be interesting to see where the next book goes with Catherine being pregnant. I want a fan of Bethany from the beginning, and she didn't grow on me. With over 400 pages, at times I wanted to put the book down and take a break. I enjoyed the book, but I think it would have been an equally good book if it was shorter.

Vivian Lane has a hit with this one. It is slower to get into than most books I read, but if you give it a few chapters, you'll be hooked! Her character development is one of the best I've read - the characters are both flawed and real and she is able to bring them to life in such a way that you care about them and what happens to and with them. The world-building is creative and enjoyable. I highly recommend this and can't wait to read book 2.

Fantastic fantasy as always. Mike finds out the hard way that romance with another agent is forbidden. Now he has a little girl, who has to live with grandparents for safety reasons. I was totally intrigued. Can’t wait for the next.

***I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my unbiased review of it. The opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s.
Outcast (Children ofOssiria #3) by Vivian Lane is the third book in the Children of Ossiria series. This book is meant to be an origin story for Michael, Catherine, Bethany and Hope. In this book the author focuses mostly on Michael, Bethany, Hope and later on Corinne. We are quickly introduced to Michael and follow him mostly throughout this book as he goes from being a member of the Agency to being cast out and on his own after getting Bethany, the rebel, pregnant. He continues to be what he is, a paladin who hunts down the monsters in the darkness. But one day he decides to leave London and go the U.S. to try and be a part of his daughter’s life since that is where he and Bethany agreed to send her. He gets there and finds her and tries to do what he can and piece by piece he enters her life and she begins to figure out who he is. We are introduced to so many other characters along the way as well and get to see the story from various perspectives as well which is really nice.
Michael is a really strong character and you can tell that he does his best for those he cares for but him staying hung up on Bethany so much is a bit saddening and annoying. Bethany never really does right by Michael no matter what he does. We are introduced to Catherine who learns she is a late blooming paladin and she gets pregnant by Michael but other than a brief chapter later on we don’t get to know that much about her and her child.
We watch Hope grow up and become a strong young woman with the help of her dad and those around her. This story flows really well and has some really good elements to it. From the very first page this book drew me in and kept me wanting to know more. It was really hard to put down and I enjoyed every minute of it.
While this book is part of a series and I haven't read any of the others yet I found that this book was very easy to follow and understand. Obviously I will be going back and reading the other books in this series because needless to say I am thoroughly hooked. I want to know more and intend to know more about each and everyone that I can.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Engaging, enjoyable, entertaining, invoking and involving. Definitely a book to put on your list of "must reads"

I received a copy of this from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I took a while to really get into this book, but it actually was a really good book. I'm still wondering why the author had him meet Catherine and have a daughter only to never mention them again. It was like she forgot all about them. I can only assume that in later books they will come to play a role. There was good character development, although I would have liked to have seen a little bit more explanation on some characters because they felt forced. Overall, not a bad book though. Just a few questions I was left with and a few gaps that I seen is my only real complaint so therefore why I give it 3 of 5 stars.

OK...I want to start by saying that I thought this story was pretty good. I didn't love it, but it was alright. There were several things that didn't make sense to me, and I felt like there were parts of the story that weren't finished. I still have questions about some of it that I feel need closure. Maybe the author plans to write more about these characters in the future, but I didn't get that impression. I hope she does though. Also, it felt like the story went on forever, and it just didn't flow right (if you know what I mean). It seemed like the story was going to be based on Mike and his career with The Agency, but then it turned into a story about his relationship with his daughter and then it turned into a story about him, Hope and Bethany, then it was about his relationship with Corinne and somewhere in between there was the unfinished story about him and Catherine. It felt choppy to me and didn't flow easily. Overall, I liked the story, but I feel it could have been better.
