The Marvel Art Of Skottie Young

Rate this book
Celebrate the unmistakable artwork of Skottie Young in a colorful collection of comic pages, covers and cartoons! The distinctively stylized illustrator first caught fans’ eyes with his flaming-hot take on the Human Torch, and he’s wowed readers across the years since on Marvel books including VENOM, LEGEND OF THE SPIDER-CLAN, NEW WARRIORS and NEW X-MEN! Young steered the Guardians of the Galaxy’s fan-favorite Rocket Raccoon into solo adventures, and his variant covers are a collector’s-item sensation! In addition to his art, Young has written ROCKET RACCOON AND GROOT, NOT A HERO and DEADPOOL! This volume is the ultimate retrospective of the Marvel Universe according to Skottie — ideal for Young and old!

A really interesting career retrospective and biography. Can see all the covers we collected, as well as some things I never knew about. Fascinating seeing the early work and the influences of Ramos and Maduera.

Great addition to any Skottie Young fans collection.

Full disclosure I had no idea I would be giving this book a 5-star rating when I picked it up. I felt it was going to be a nice art book and probably get 4 stars as Skottie Young is a very talented artist...but the combination of story, art and production of this book made me passionate enough to know before I finished it...this is 5-star material. I wish that more artists had these type of books made. I have enjoyed numerous artists books but this one hit perfectly balancing a lot of art along with a story that had details I was not aware of prior to picking it up.

The index at the back of this book is nothing short of amazing! I think it was something that was so cool I wish it was at the back of EVERY art book!

I love Skottie Young. And this art book is not just a celebration of his distinctive art style but also a quick journey through his history as a comic book artist (and writer!) including a lot of projects that never really panned out despite his beautiful art. It's focused on his Marvel life, which does make up the bulk of his career, and so there's a lot of good stuff to enjoy. It's more than just a pretty picture book but it also doesn't shy away from just giving Young's art focus on center stage.
