They were average New Yorkers. But in the aftermath, they became American refugees . . . When the planes hit the Twin Towers, Christina Ray Stanton’s life changed forever. As the new dawn of terrorism began, the Manhattan resident and her husband fearfully witnessed the impact just six blocks away from Ground Zero. Certainly, was interesting to read her firsthand account of living in New York City and being only several blocks from the World Trade Centers on 9/11. Crazy stuff as she shares her transparent account on how they fled on foot (and socks) from the scene only able to go back to their apartment days later and making the difficult decision to stay for the long haul. I like that she does not get into the political part of it but focuses on their journey, their raw emotion and feelings and how God led them eventually to Timothy Keller's church (Redeemer Presbyterian Church). Her love for NYC way surpasses my intrigue with the city. It was an easy book though to read since I had no one I knew die that day. I saw the repercussions of course and how people responded around me and having 23+ years to look back on the events that day it was well worth the reading just to follow one person's journey on that day.
Without this book i would not have thought about the survivors. I met the author in Miramar Bch and have thought about her and her experience alot. God Bless u for this book!!
This couple had a first hand account of the events of the tragedy of 911. I have a love of NY! . I have visited the 911 museum twice in the last two years. Each time I have left the.museum,my heart is heavy and I grieve over again. This is a must read.
What an inspiring and engaging book!! I could not put it down and was truly drawn into her epic struggle. I just watched on TV the tragedy but reading the book allowed me to catch a glimpse of the trauma and agony of one up close and personal. I highly recommend this book!! It is a MUST read! Very inspiring
Reading this was like reliving the whole experience again, even though it happened 19 years ago! Well written from the viewpoint of a couple that lived 6 blocks from the twin towers, and how they dealt with everything that happened, physically and mentally to them. In spite of it all, they couldn't leave the city permanently that they loved.
This was a very enlightening book describing the Author & her Husbands experience with 911. Abit too much detail but otherwise a very fast read. I would recommend this to anyone interested in an inspiring book full of the challenges that they not only faced, but many other New Yorkers, & how they came through them to become better individuals.
This was a very different point of view on 9/11. Was about a couple who lived a few blocks from the twin towers in Manhattan and how that day affected them and their dog both that day and for years after. Brought up things that people outside of New York didn't realize they were going thru! Good read. Uplifting too!
This is part of 9-11 that's never been told. It gives me insight that helps me to have do much respect for those that lived there and endured the horrible trauma and aftermath. It was their path to find true meaning of life with Christ.
This story brings you in close to what surviving 9/11 was like for a couple living in apartments near the twin towers. What sticks in my mind is the toxic dust the author described that covered everyone and everything after the twin towers collapsed.
Obviously a life changing event, it was difficult to feel the author’s depth of emotion. There was not a clear transition to her finding God. Never-the-less, it was a good quick read for those of us who remember generalities from the attack.
I read this book during the first days of the Shelter in Place order for Covid-19. It really helped me keep perspective, helped keep my fear at bay and reminded me to place my trust in God.
A wonderful short account of a couple’s personal experience living a few blocks from the Twin Towers on 9/11. The event reshaped their lives in unexpected ways.
Christina has done a great job of telling what it was like to be present when the towers came down, and how it affected her and her husband. It definitely gives me insight into the event and it’s aftermath.
