Let s Read Math is about combining reading with math. The idea is to read a children s book, then do related math activities. The activities cover a wide variety of standards-based math topics. Each Funbook has math activities related to 16 different children s books. High-gloss covers fold out to reveal two full pages of punchout math manipulatives. In this Funbook there are number cards for generating random numbers, a punchout protractor, polygons for making tessellations, and nets for making prisms and pyramids. Throughout the Funbook are prompts to encourage students to read and write about math, and to look for connections in the outside world. Weblinks are suggested for exploring topics in the books, including but not limited to the math. There are also recommended lesson extensions to take the math topics to a higher level. Advanced Funbook 1 was designed for students in upper elementary grades, but with the suggested lesson extensions it is suitable for use in middle grades. The 16 featured books featured in Advanced Funbook 1 All in a Day, Anno s Magic Seeds, Ben Franklin s Magic Squares, A Cloak for the Dreamer, Cut Down to Size at High Noon, Esio Trot, The King s Chessboard, My Name is Jorge, On Beyond a Million, One Hundred Hungry Ants, Pigs at Odds, Roman Numerals I to MM, Salt in His Shoes, Sir Cumference and the Sword in the Cone, The Story of Money, and Tiger Math. Most books are available through Amazon.com.
