En general este libro fue interesante, pues su contenido, como bien lo indica su título, recoge relatos de todo el mundo. Esto permite analizar las diferentes maneras de ver la cotidianidad en cada region y cultura.
A pesar de que algunas leyendas las presenta "dulcificadas" fue una buena experiencia. Definitivamente no entra en la lista de libros favoritos pero tampoco en la de los libros repudiados.

The book does a good job as a simple introduction to Classical Mythology, but fails when it simplifies and modernizes the stories. I also took away a star because it does what is, to me, the unforgivable sin of freely mixing Roman and Greek names, simply choosing whichever ones are more well known. However, it does live up to its name, including Norse, African, and Asian myths alongside the more familiar Greek and Roman mythology.

Como dice el título, es una recopilación de leyendas de todo el mundo, hay aquí muchos mítos conocidos y en general es entretenido de leer; sin embargo su problema es que el editor sólo tomo las historias escritas por otras personas, las ordeno por cultura y con eso dio por cumplido su trabajo, no hay una uniformidad en como están escritas cada una de las leyendas y eso le quita mucho valor.
Sin embargo, si se tiene en la mesita de noche y uno lo agarra para leer algo al azar, el libro cumple.

Myths and Folktales Around the World is a beautiful collection of lore from various cultures ranging from the classics of Greek mythology to African legends and many more cultural folktales. While it’s likely not historically accurate, the folktales in this book can still provide a great insight into different cultures’ belief systems and roots. The fantastical myths and folktales captured in this book will no doubt keep any reader incredibly interested and possibly inspire them to spend more time learning about myths. Myths and Folktales Around the World was a large part of my childhood growing up and has left me with an eternal appetite to learn about not only about myths but history as well. Re-reading this book has allowed for me to absorb the information presented in the texts and process them more clearly so that I could recognize the undying life lessons of Myths and Folktales Around the World. With that in mind, I would recommend this book to anyone interested in mythology both young and old alike because I promise you that you will be able to take something away from reading this book.

Don't know how I ended up reading this seeing as how it was written for middle schoolers, but the title interested me. While the stories were interesting, I ended up being disappointed by how dumbed down and simplified they were, even for a middle school level. Not only that, but for something claiming to be globally inclusive it still managed to feel pretty whitewashed (the Africa and Asia sections are by far the smallest, and the America section focuses much more on the colonization period than Native Americans, despite the thousands of tribal legends/religious stories to pick from). And finally the thing that probably irked me the most was the fact that the author decided to sprinkle in Roman names in the Greek mythology section, seemingly choosing whichever name he felt like.

I love myths and folk tales. From the classic Greek Myths to the fatalistic Russian Folk tales to the American attempts (not Native American but Americans from Washington to Lincoln) this books got them all. You can learn so much from a culture's legends. I'm constantly keeping an eye open for new collections.
