If I ever decide to be murdered I think I'll choose Ireland. There something quite civilised about these murders - something just a bit more 'gentle' - yes that's silly I know but David Pearsons straight forward writing style and the occasional Irish brogue make the murder and mayhem just a bit 'nicer'.
I whistled through this story in just a few hours and felt quite satisfied at the way it all wound up - though actually the detectives weren't quite as pleased as I was - hmmm - why - well you'd have to read it to find out.
Note to self - Must revisit Ireland very soon - second note to self - must take care not to get murdered.
This is the eighth instalment of the Lyons and Hays series and this time DI Maureen Lyons finds herself in real peril. With one girl murdered and another missing, Lyons is determined to bring the killer to justice but at what cost? Murder on the Peninsular is another fascinating story from David Pearson. Once again, Pearson weaves a tale that’s twisty and captivating. With the west coast of Ireland as a backdrop, this story really delivers on mystery and entertainment. Highly recommend!
A modern police procedural with a delightfully old-fashioned ambiance
I enjoyed this short but gripping police procedural set in the Irish countryside surrounding Galway. I read it as a stand-alone, without problems.
The atmosphere is dark and moody, which is appropriately autumnal for the peninsula area. This well-written mystery has the cozy feel of old-fashioned, British police procedurals, even with the presence of contemporary forensic sciences and technology—probably due to writing style, settings and characters.
I liked Garda Senior Inspector Maureen Lyons and her team members, who investigate a possible drowning or murder; an attempted murder, and the kidnapping of a tweeny. Whilst investigating murder, Inspector Lyons uncovers a case of insurance fraud and an architect who finagles the building of illegal, monster houses.
I docked a star, because Inspector Lyons pulls a TSTL move, knowing it’s stupid. Yes. It is a part of the storyline, and yes, it is author’s choice, but it’s also a cliché.
Packed with Irish charm Murder on The Peninsula is an excellent read. The book follows several police officers as they attempt to uncover the reason why the body of a young woman was found in a car on the beach.
Pearson fills his book with tension. The stakes of the crime steadily increase. There is a real sense of danger and terror in the prose. The killer is one step ahead of Detective Lyons and it was very entertaining to see the myriad of ways that they avoid detection and capture.
Detective Lyons is a great character who is put at the heart of the story when she realises that the crimes are personal. There is someone after her, for something she did many years ago. I highly recommend finding out why.
Loved these characters ! A vehicle is found on the beach with a dead female inside. Few clues . Slowly the clues do mount up. Then a schoolgirl is kidnapped . The garda work hard to find her, even calling in a police dog . Next the Inspector goes missing and the girl is returned in exchange . She is quite resilient , and escapes from where she has been chained up. So on they go, seems to me that they are laid back, yet efficient . How did the killer know she escaped . That is something I missed . Good reading though .
They’re all the same.....just missing a little bit of something that takes it from the ordinary. I don’t like reading whole paragraphs of description that are verbatim of the same description in each of the previous books....describing various characters and their position in the Gardaì or police stations, it just gets tedious and boring. It is also boring to have whole paragraphs of extraneous puff about lesser characters, that actually has no bearing on the story. It is distracting. Stick to the script!
The scenery is grand. The characters don't kick the stereotype into touch and the violence is toned down to the level of an afternoon movie. It was all too predictable for my taste. I lost count of the long-winded conversations that did nothing for the pace and urgency of the plot. On the other hand, if you like easy to read cozy mysteries that don't frighten the horses... then you'll love it.
Seem to be popular storylines based in Ireland. This is the second e-book I have read in this series and find them an entertaining easy read.A lot of this type of title e-books based in various places and all seem good reads. The author D.Pearson of this series of storylines is well rated and I have read others of his that are not related to this series which I have found good reads.I recommend his thriller books.☺☺
Love these books probably because I'm familiar with the places mentioned in the story, having spent several family holidays around Galway. Makes it all the more realistic. Definitely recomnend a light hearted read nothing too bad to understand. Looking forward to the next one
The core concept was great but the story-telling wasn’t. Several unlikely events that made the story disappointing and amateurish. Ending (re yacht) was unnecessary and distracting. Introducing life partner halfway through book felt like an after thought that then turned into major focus.
In this novel the protagonist, Maureen, gets some bumps and bruises to say the least when she is kidnapped. I liked the drama between her and Hays and Plunkett. Their relationships deepen and the writing gets smoother, though I am still put off by the constant "telling" of each character when they call each other their names, which doesn't feel natural. Enjoyed the easy read.
When I see one of David's books advertised I cannot wait to buy and read it,usually in one sitting. All the usual characters and a great story. When reading these books you feel that you know the characters personally. Please keep them coming.
As ever this book like all of his other ones really held my interest .lots of twists and turns to the story to keep the suspicion going. Keep up the good writing and I will look forward to your next one
Enjoyed this visit to the world of Maureen & Mick. An easy and enjoyable light read. All hail Brutus - great to see role of the police dog recognised. Off to read the first 7 books now!
This is a police procedural with great characters, a believable plot and a well planned resolution. Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down I finished it in an afternoon and immediately bought the rest of the series'
I like the characters and the setting that have Lyons and Hays busy locating and arresting the guilty party. Kidnapping, murder and robbery are part of his crimes.
