_________'WE ARE LIVERPOOL - THIS MEANS MORE.' JÜRGEN KLOPPAllez Allez Allez is the inside account of Liverpool FC during the Klopp era, including the 2018/19 campaign which saw the club compete in the most gripping Premier League title race in history and become Champions of Europe for the sixth time.Featuring access to management, players and staff, Allez Allez Allez explains how Liverpool have emerged from what Jürgen Klopp described as the “depression” of 2015 to achieve feats that have eluded an entire generation of supporters.Through original research and exclusive interviews, Simon Hughes takes readers into Melwood, the club’s training ground, and behind the dressing room door. He takes them to Chapel Street, where the club’s business is determined, and to America, where it is owned. He takes them into Anfield, where many of the most important moments are defined, and he takes them on to the pitches of the Premier League and the Champions League, as we revisit how Liverpool stormed their way to the top of the Premier League this season.
It was nice reliving one of the best memories of my life. The 2018-2019 season still feels like a dream and Simon Hughes' clever, and occasionally artful writing captured the exhilaration and the hope that were threaded through the narrative of what that Liverpool squad achieved. This book reminded me that mawkish romanticism and undying determination is the way of this football club and I would not have it any other way.
My favorite chapters of the book were the ones that focused on individual players' backgrounds and my least favorite chapters dwelt on the dark years of Hicks and Gillett and Woy (because I don't like remembering those things). The reason for my rating is that I felt the book felt somewhat uneven and that the chapters didn't seem to be written together to fit more cohesively into the story of a resurgent club that Hughes wanted to tell, with some sections coming off as filler to pad out the page count.
Still, while this season is still in limbo, reading this book eased my anxieties a bit, as a familiar hope and wonder bloomed deep within my chest. In these uncertain times, I'll try to hold onto those phantom feelings for a while longer yet.
Every Liverpool fan should read this excellent book on the Klopp years which culminated in the team winning the Champions League a year ago. Like all of Simon's books, it's superbly researched with wide ranging insider interviews and you learn so much through it.
The insights on things such Klopp's appointment, Fenway, the Rodgers years, and some of the players like Trent Alexander-Arnold is brilliant.
You'll be hard pressed to find an accurate description of the delirium that followed Liverpool's sixth capture of the Champions League trophy, the first piece of silverware they got in 7 years, and the first European final trophy in fourteen! Simon Hughes not only presents the background choices, plans and preparations that went into that historic pursuit throughout the knockout rounds, but gives vivid descriptions on the careers of all major participants, coaches and players alike.
I actually learnt a lot from this book, since I didn't follow the team closely during their accursed Gillett & Hicks years, and it gave me a lot of perspective on what Brendan Rogers and his players had to go through, to salvage a nearly bankrupt club with minimum resources. Liverpool could have won more, but got lost in details that ultimately make you a champion. It needed a coach of Jurgen Klopp's calibre to push itself forward, and his brilliant work is evident throughout all the pages of this book.
I give it three stars, mainly for two reasons; the pacing, as Hughes separated and followed each chapter like he was writing everything off the top of his head, giving the book a serious lack of cohesive storytelling. And second, because I think he kind of sugar-coated a lot of things. I'm sure Mr. Kevin Ball thought highly of Jordan Henderson, the young player, but let's not pretend that he wasn't mediocre until Klopp arrived and unlocked his capabilities. That's just an example, but the book is strewn with feel (too) good stories that I don't think match the circumstances so much.
That being said, it was a wonderful trip to revisit a year which made my heart burst almost to full with joy, excitement and love for all the players and coaches involved. I just hope his next book can be a bit more cohesive and a bit more realistic. #YNWA!
Chấm điểm 3,5 sao - 0,5 sao do nhiều lỗi chính tả quá.
Hughes used the backdrop of the 6th Champions Leagues triumph to weave in the back story of the hurts since dalglish stepped down from the last league win in 1990 to arrive at today's klopps unrelenting liverpool red machine. Wonderful reliving of a magnificent period under klopp.
A nice holiday read. Not just a blow by blow account of the European cup winning season, but some nice insights into what was going on behind the scenes. Really enjoyable, definitely recommend to football fans
This is a very good book. Telling the stories behind key players and events of the season and how Liverpool returned to the top of football over the last 30 years.
Extremely insightful...I learned a lot and enjoyed every minute of reading this book. Well done Simon Hughes and of course many congratulations LFC for winning your 6th European Title🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Great insight into the running of the club under Klopp. A few good stories regarding the humility of some of the players particularly Sadio Mane and James Milner.
What a brilliant read. Loved the storytelling of the players and the behind the scenes build up to one of the most fantastic moments in Liverpool’s recent history.
Enjoyable read, especially the back stories of the players. Preferred earlier books with more first person narratives and stories - maybe he can try that with this bunch when they've all retired!
honestly 5 stars to the entire 18/19 season. there’s no other answer.
hughes tells a beautiful story not just of how liverpool reached its 6th cl trophy, but also how the club has toughed out some dark and difficult years in the last decade, truly rising like a phoenix through the ashes. i already know how it ends, yet i still got so emotional.mp3 just reading each player’s backstory and how all of them fitted the pieces to the puzzle that is liverpool’s comeback in modern football.
especially emotional for me was reading 🥺 jordan henderson’s 🥺 chapter. he truly is a symbol of how far the club has come and what it’s spirit is. don’t come for my captain or i will fight you!!
essentially, liverpool 🥰🥺❤️ MY TEAM, my girlhood team.
