Scout Randall is settling in with the northern Lower Michigan branch of Spell’s Angels. She’s feeling bold, brash … and just a little bit flirty thanks to her burgeoning relationship with Gunner Stratton, a shifter whose father happens to serve as the chief of police in Hawthorne Hollow. Things are going well … until they’re not. A group of shifters who used to live in the area have returned and they’re up to something. Right from the start, Scout is suspicious but she can’t quite explain why. Then, when a local homeless man is found dead – with Scout’s name literally carved into him – she starts to believe that she’s being set up to take a fall. Gunner is determined to help. His history with the shifters in question makes things difficult, though. On top of everything else, it becomes apparent that the dead guy’s ties to Scout run deep … like genetically deep. He’s related to her, and for a woman who was abandoned as a child, it’s a hard blow to absorb. Gunner is determined to stick close as the warring wolves close ranks and start issuing threats. It’s going to take everybody working together to find the answers Scout desperately needs, including uncovering the secret of her past. When one of their own is taken, Scout has no choice but to put her full cache of magic on display. It’s going to be a fight to the finish, rival gangs going at one another, and only one side will be victorious. Which one will it be?
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
4.5 Stars... When three shady shifters show up in Hawthorne Hollow followed by a gruesome murder connected to Scout, Spell's Angels are pulled into the middle of the chaos... Solving the case, however, means revisiting the past for both Scout and Gunner... Scout's secrets get laid bared as her memories begin to surface leading to more questions than answers... Readers continue to get small pieces of what I believe will be a very complex puzzle of Scout's past and her true nature... These characters are really beginning to mesh with one another as the storyline continues to build leading readers on a thrilling journey... Looking forward to the next read in the series:)
This book has a nice flow and engaging characters. It's a good idea to read book 1 first. When the mystery is finally solved, some interesting sub plots and guilty characters are found. I am hoping there will be a book3.
What a terrific read. Okay it gets you a tad closer (but only a tad) to finding out what she is and who's hunting her by leaving dead bodies with messages burnt into their backs. This has everything - a fast moving plot, conspiracies, rage, romance and murder as well as a subplot that leaves you wanting the next book now! The characters are as vivacious and lively as you can hope for, the heroine is gutsy and fearless whilst still trying to overcome the desolation of being abandoned, whilst the hero is willing to stake everything for the one he has fallen for even though she's as prickly as a pear. However I feel that the teenager needs a good wake up call as she is driving the team into danger with her reckless actions. When a trio of werewolves show up as she uses elemental magic to blow up a siren, it's an inconvenience. However they're now dogging her footsteps, her new boyfriend isn't amused and the appearance of a dead body with her name burned into his back doesn't help. Throw in dreams, other bodies scattered alongside the foster homes she was in, a group calling themselves the Nexus, an attempt to make her one of their pact and a kidnapping. Will she get more answers? Who are the Nexus? Will she accept this new relationship?
There was another review I feel strongly with but I'd like to point out a few other things
1.if scout never used magic I'd never know this a paranormal book because literally no one else uses magic in this book at all
2 lots of talk of wolf's never "saw" a actual wolf in the book basically just made men territorial and call them a wolf
3 no depth this one I was willing to slide on in the first book cause it's more a introduction than anything but this book had no characters with personality
4 seemed not well written 68% of this is just scout and gunner talking with one another and not interacting with anyone but eachother maybe so they'd not have to write personalitys for the other characters idk
I love Amanda m Lee's books honestly she has some great books but she's created so many worlds and characters and people who I really love and enjoy reading about and I had high hopes for this series but I thinks she's putting on to much stress on herself to do so many series and get them out so fast I'd wait longer to get better quality cause I think scout and gunner have really good potential.
Some wolves come back to town and seem to be very interested in Scout and Gunner
What I enjoyed: * Learning more about Scout's history. I have a feeling this mystery will be dragged out the entire series, but it is nice to see some progress. * I like Scout and Gunnar together, they make a good couple *
What could have been better: * I'm kind of curious what the other Spell's Angels can do paranormally because no one except Scout really uses their power - even Gunnar never shapeshifts. If fact for a book about werewolves, there is a distinct lack of wolves.
No Crones About It begins with Scout and Gunner dancing around each other until they decide to move forward a little bit. But, things start to get a little crazy when some new people show up in town and make things more difficult for them. Not only that, but it seems Scout's past is coming back to haunt her in ways she doesn't fully understand, yet.
This book was really good, not as good as the first one, but still really good. I enjoyed the heroine a hell of a lot, and I loved her and Gunner together as well. I can't wait for more in this series!
Another great book by Amanda M. Lee!! I absolutely love this series and scout and Gunner are so much fun to hang out with. This book has it all mystery, adventure, and romance!! I am looking forward to the next book.
I am really enjoying this series, Scout & Gunner are adorable and the backstory/mystery is really interesting. Looking forward to the next installment.
What a fantastic book. I love the town and characters that the author has created. It’s a slice of small town living with lovable characters that you feel you know personally. Poor Scout is still plagued with doubt and questions about her past and who she is. She gets help and support from Gunner, who is fantastic with her and they make a great couple. There was also plenty of action and humor. This book was perfect!
I love the power that Scout has. Usually a character builds up, but Scout is a power house from the beginning and it's awesome. I also love Gunnar. I love everything about him, perfect book boyfriend. He handles Scout so perfect. They are so cute together. This bok has a lot f great characters and the storyline was fast paced, non-stop action. We get more pieces to Scouts past as well.
While I enjoyed this book, I am starting to get frustrated with the secrets regarding Scouts past and what she is. What the heck is a Child of the Stars? I feel like the author shouldn't throw this term out there without explaining it to the readers.
This is book 2 and there has been almost no movement towards understanding her past. We should know something by now. The very little we know is frustrating and it feels as if the author is holding back to milk this series for as long as possible. My patience will only stretch so far before I've had enough and give up on the series.
I've also have had enough of Marissa and her attitude. She drags the book down whenever she appears. Raisin is one of those "too-stupid-to-live" types. I'm going to start skipping over parts where either of these appear. They annoy me that much.
Those things aside, I like this series.
I love Scout (I wish the author would tell us what her birth name is!). I love seeing a strong and capable woman. She doesn't need saving, she can save herself. Do I find her annoying at times? Absolutely. She's her own worst enemy and her "I'm fine" makes me want to slap her. I still adore her and want to see her get her HEA.
I love Gunner. He's such a sweet, loyal, strong, protective, and patient guy. It's amazing to me that he puts up with all the ugly that Scout puts out. That girl has some serious baggage and he's determined to work his way past them.
This book was challenging for me. All these things were thrown out there and nothing was really resolved. The "bad" guy got away. Scout didn't get any answers, just more questions. I'm frustrated, I want some sort of resolution. Who strung up the bodies? Why? Scout is almost 30, for crying out loud, why won't they tell her the truth? Nexus? Seriously?
Side note: Why does this series have "Crone" in it? There's no crone. A 28 year old woman isn't a crone!
Kudos to she who can pump out 2-4 engaging and clever stories per month (what?!?) and still make each fresh, interesting and oh so funny. Plus, the crossover potential? This title alone touching back to Covenant College, Poet and the Winchester brood fills my heart with glee on what is to come. I kinda want to see if Avery is going to somehow pop into one of these stories. Hell, maybe even a little crossover with Lily Harper Hart characters? I mean, the author herself already swam with the sharks with Charlie, so can't be beyond the realm of possibilities, 'm I right? But, beyond digressing, YOU DON'T NEED TO READ THE OTHER SERIES BEFORE READING THIS BOOK. I think you will want to, though. All in all, Scout looks to be a fun, new addition to my A M Lee girl group. Ahem. I mean awesome kick ass women who I love to hang out with. Anticipating my next peek at the stars with book #3. But, Ms Lee, as long as you keep me on a steady diet of reapers, scary chap wearing clowns and aunties in combat hats, I can wait another 6 months. I guess....
The first book was definitely great! And this second one did not disappoint. As the story unfolds, I'm feeling closer to the characters. Of course, who wouldn't want to be the protagonist, Scout? This old woman sure does! It's probably why I read this genre. I get to get lost in the stories, and it makes me feel warm and cozy all over. I also love that Amanda M. Lee doesn't get into, the sometimes, too overboard, as some authors when doing a love scene. It's pretty nonexistent in this series. I'm too old to be reading smut. It's just something I'd prefer not to read, unfortunately, since those days are pretty much behind me. As the love story continues to unfold, I'm worried that Amanda will throw in that Scout will run away. I'm hoping I'm wrong. This author continues to make me laugh out loud, and bite my nails (not literally) to the quick in all the right places. I continue to recommend these books and this series. What else is there to say... I'm off to read book 3. 😁 Happy reading fantasy geeks, like me. ✌️☮️❤️
I really love all of Amanda's series and i love how she is linking them together like a magical web of mystery, mayhem, hilarity, and romance.
No Crones About It was just the second book in the Spell's Angel's mystery series and I have to say it was just as good as the first and another I just could not put down.
Gunner and Scout are back and moving their relationship into a relationship...lol but not without some up's and down's they are so cute together...lol
I seriously love Scout she is kick-ass and becoming more kick-ass with each book.
I am enjoying getting to know all of the Spell's Angels group and others in a town like our awesome Sherif Graham...lol he and Gunner have a very interesting dynamic as father and son I can't wait for more from them.
and then there is my absolute favorite teen Raisin... She is just magnificent and constantly steals the show.
.. it's not clear quite who they want.. Gunner or Scout.. Cyrus, his son Flint and bodyguard Drake keep turning up wherever the duo are.. with Cyrus bragging about his plans to take control of the local pack back, Flint's skeevy letching and Drake's shuttered mind it's proving difficult to know what they're up to.. when a dead body turns up with Scout's name burned into it she's forced to give a blood sample with results that come so far out of left field she's reeling.. will it help her learn who and what she is?
With the visiting pack turning on itself and a battle for leadership between Cyrus and Flint Scout's karma spell certainly heats things up.. but when Raisin goes missing the Spells Angels have one goal and one goal only.. get the inquisitive little minx back in one piece..
Scout and Gunner's relationship is picking up more speed but there are a few sketchy characters coming into Hawthorne Hollow. There is a gruesome murder and Scout's name is burned into the body connecting Scout to the murder and as secrets about Scout's past is coming out slowly and emotions are running high. Gunner and Scout must work with the group to put all the pieces together to not only solve the murder but to also put together more pieces to help solve the mystery of Scout. I am loving this series, while I love Amanda M Lee's cozy mysteries this one has me hooked as well! I am curious about the different clues of where Scout came from and the mystery of her family. I like Scout and Gunner together they work well together and I can't wait until thier relationship blossums! If you like paranormal and cozy mysteries then this is the book for you!
And entertaining urban fantasy/cozy mystery series. Another series in this authors writing world. In a small Michigan town what you might call a biker club called spells angels. A group of magical mystical beings who fight evil. A mix of magical and shifters and other supernatural who protect innocent humans and innocent supernatural‘s from those who do evil. Scout who is a witch but more than a witch is new in town and new to the club and appears to be the focal point in main character. I love how in all her books she brings up little references to other characters places events etc. from her other books that connect them all in someway. Follow along and be entertained.
Tears of Laughter about the Cold Sores and Lion Slippers
During several scenes I was laughing so hard I had to keep wiping away the tears and run to the bathroom..OMG the cold sores and Cat/Lion slippers were brilliantly funny and the baldness karma spell? LMAO. Scout has the best sense of spell humor for a snarky, wise cracking magical witch and Gunner’s sense of humor is priceless. Their dialogue together is so real and entertaining. Solid mystery plots, surprises throughout and the characters, good and bad, are well fleshed out.
I came across this series accidentally as I was looking up another book and am flabbergasted it wasn’t part of my Kindle Unlimited suggestions. This author is a wonderful writer with the best sense of humor and she has an editor!
Scout is settling into Hawthorne Hollow. She has a boyfriend (shifter Gunner), and is making friends on the Spell’s Angels team there. When Scout’s name comes up in a murder investigation though, it leads to some shifty shifters, and maybe a connection to Scout’s mysterious past...
This was another enjoyable paranormal mystery book from Amanda M. Lee. Fast paced and action packed, it’s filled with all sorts of intriguing things that might just lead to knowledge about Scout’s past (which I know I’m dead intrigued by!). There’s a nod in here to Lee’s series Covenant College, so fans of the author will appreciate that!
Recommended for paranormal mystery fans, PNR and Urban Fantasy fans may enjoy too.
Scout Randall is getting used to working with the Hawthorne Hollow chapter, but not everyone in the chapter is used to working with her. And, since Gunner Stratton is making his interest in Scout very plain, some of that fallout is due to jealousy.
Then, there are the old wolves who are trying to move back into the territory, and have plans for Scout and Gunner. 🙄 Why do people think that coveting and conscription work? Yes, Scout is powerfully, and, no, she doesn’t want to join your group.
At the heart of Scout lies a mystery, and the spell that blocks her memories is slowly degrading. Very. Slowly. But, she is getting closer to some answers in Hawthorne Hollow.
Welcome back to Hawthorne Hollow where 3new bikers have just arrived to see if they want to stay, I should say where 2 new bakers arrive and one who has been there before and could be trouble, oh and I forgot to mention that they are shifters also. Now in town they have discovered a grotesque murder and 2 familiar souls are given the task by the Spells Angels to solve this murder, if you guessed that Scout and Gunner are on the clock you would be correct, so while This bit of country living isn’t that big, there seems to be trouble a plenty. My suggestion to you the reader would be to pick up this book and find out what is going on, and like I say when I enjoy a story, you won’t be sorry you did;)
No Crones About it is Book 2 in the Spell's Angels series. I love Scout and Gunner together and they mystery of Scout's past is slowly revealing itself layer by layer. Three rogue wolves show up in town and a murder that might tie to Scout's past is in the thick of things. I really loved this book. It is action packed and I really enjoy the slow building romance of Scout and Gunner. I love reading little tidbits that the author throws in from her other series and I am like YESSS I know there will be some interaction at some point in the series.
Definitely read book 1 first or you may be a tad confused with the backstory. A great read and I can't wait for the next book!
Forget everything you know about the supernaturals. These are not your same old witches and wolves. Each story stands alone, But the deeper mystery continues more clues and new questions with each book. One thing that I like about Amanda‘s novels it’s not triple xxx rated. She gets the nuances across and builds up a relationship between the main characters and their love interest that I miss when reading most of the newer generation of writers. She doesn’t write porn she rides a true paranormal action adventure with a little romance down in .
I want to be a badass, magical being. There, I have said it, because I can't the next best thing is to read about one and they don't come better than Scout. This second book doesn't disappoint. The Mystery around Scout's beginnings gets more developed. Her relationship with Gunner moves forwards, he is just a perfect foil for her character. Will Merlin give up the toilet paper games? The characters of all the others develop further - I am really sick of Mellisa already and if someone doesn't point out to Raisin she's going to get someone killed, I think I'll scream. Just waiting to start book 3.
The first book was good but the second hit it out of the park! So much going on! I love how the author ties things together with other characters of her other books! I hope they do a combined book with the characters of Covenant College! I would absolutely love that! I also love that Scout is untouchable and she is really bad ass! Can’t wait for the next one! I have all the release dates for upcoming books in my monthly planner so I don’t miss any! Love all of her books!
Even better than the first in the series. The seriousness of the background plot is wonderfully, deeply crafted so it's not just a light cozy mystery, but intellectually interesting, holding together throughout the book and deepening the series promise of top notch books to look forward to. The character's humorous words and reactions are what balance the serious emotions behind the thought of being left behind. I can't wait for the next one as I really want to know what happens to these new friends this author has magically crafted.
Well I liked the first Spells Angels although as an intro book one has to get to know the characters, their quirks' and lifestyles. And the reader definitely gets an 'eyeful' into Scout, Gunnar and their 'family' in this book. Things appear to be coming along nicely espcially with Scout and Gunnar's relationship until unexpected visitors appear who are not too neighborly and/or friendly with whatever their agenda might be. There is further development with Raisen who is a mini-Scout and an absolute delight. Def will be reading #3!!
I am really enjoying this series but then again I love this author. She has not let me down yet. I Scout Randal is a breath of fresh air and I love her hard a$$ attitude. Underneath is a vulnerability that is heartwarming and sad as well. The gang is great and different in their own ways. I am behind on updating this as all of these should had been done in December , so I am already reading the next in the series. Love these characters and the interactions between them. And a new group comes to town to rile things up. Read the series to find out what happens next.
