Soon Rick was feeling so strong that he and his friends.wanted to be like Stemmie's Wellness Team and help the entire world be healthy and happy.
This book is wonderful. We've already read it several times, and we just got it. It is poetic and beautiful, fun and whimsical, and perfect for both kids and their parents to enjoy. The artwork is beautiful, as well as the story.
If you want to expose your child to a book that promotes teamwork and healthy living, consider reading this book to them, and they will learn those things and so many more. What you can expect from this book is that it’s really easy to read and understand for children of all ages. It can even serve as a bonding moment for a parent and child as they can have fun making melodies for the rhymes that this book is known for! Absolutely one of a kind, and I really wish that more people will follow suit on what Lynn Darnall is trying to do-to teach kids important topics that are usually hard to understand and incorporate important values into it.
A wildly imaginative book that will take you on a wholesome journey towards understanding how your body works, When Rick Was Sick is a very well-crafted book that children can easily understand. It is simple yet deep in terms of the knowledge it bestows, and it follows likable characters that children can put their shoes in! I love how the author doesn’t stop at teaching kids what cells are and what they do for the body, but she also discusses how we can all also work together just like cells. I think that it’s a memorable takeaway to give to the kids. If you’re still doubting about getting this book, don’t worry because I assure you that it is perfect for children and it’s not confusing at all!
I would recommend this book to children ages five and up since there is nothing inappropriate in this book and the format will be easy for them to read.
Who doesn't love the bright illustrations of Christina Rosenthal and simple storylines of Lyn Darnall?
Throughout the story, the author uses repetition and rhythm in the text, and the illustrations are bright and colorful.
This is a book that will give you a great story and things to learn about the human body! This book tells the story of a sickly kid named Rick who got through his sickly phase by listening to the cells in his dreams. In the dreams, the cells thoroughly explain their functions in a way that utilizes rhymes and playful adjectives to make them memorable for the young readers. Even I- an adult really enjoyed this book as it is very fun to read, and the rhymes are really something that you can look forward to. I love every second of reading this book, and I sure am waiting for the day that the author will release more books like this.
Lovely illustrations and a good text, which has some good rhymes. A reading-aloud book, definitely, as some of the words are hard for beginning readers, while the storyline is suitable for younger readers.
When Rick Was Sick is an exciting book filled with colorful illustrations and beautiful rhymes about a boy who was once sickly, growing out of it by eating healthy and exercising. I love the poetic way this book is told; it’s as if it's meant to be sung and memorized, and I think it’s really fun because the words really get stuck in your head. This book is also packed with a good amount of valuable lessons like living a satisfactory life by being healthy and being a team worker and I really find it disturbing that parents are sleeping on this book when it can give so many valuable lessons to their children!
This is a warm, sweet, educational story that's perfect for a read-aloud right before bed.
As a person who deals with kids a lot, I can vouch for this book and say that it’s one of the best in the market! This book has the potential to become the next nursery rhyme. The beautiful lyrics are very pleasing to recite and hear, as the words flow naturally from one rhyme to another. Aside from that, it tells such a beautiful story of how cells treat wounds and keep the body in top-notch shape! This is surely a book that I would be reading to my children, it’s entertaining and informative, and it has such a unique premise that it stands out among all other books of the genre. Kudos to Lyn Darnall for condensing a complex topic and making it easier for mere children to understand
The rhyming is nicely handled, the pictures are vivid, and it's the perfect length—good choice for me.
Also, this is not only a picture book but also an experience for both the child and the parent. So, what is precisely special about this book that a parent should choose over a thousand children’s books that are available on the market? Simple, it teaches children so many things in one story; it doesn’t just have one lesson but a lot that is carefully timed so that it doesn’t become too crowded for the child to bear. It teaches the value of eating healthy. It teaches us to be among our peers and help when there is help needed to be lent, and it teaches us the workings of the human body that broadens a child’s mind. This book is totally worth the time spent reading it!
The lovely lilting, rhyming text makes this picture book a soothing read-aloud.
On a scale of 1-10, this is a straight 10! Usually, children’s books follow the same plot, teaching kids that being naughty is bad and that they will get punished if they do this and do that. It's refreshing to see a children’s book that doesn’t have the negativity of those books. It’s really great to expose kids to books like this so that they may learn educational things like the functions of cells in the body and what they do in order to keep us healthy as well as the values that are hidden behind the lines like eating healthy and being a collaborative person. Overall, this book is a really fulfilling one. So, I would give it a perfect 5-star rating too!
A book that both children and grownups can enjoy! There are storybooks that are special because of their beautiful storytelling, and there are books that are special because of how informative they are. And this book managed to be both at the same time! This book tells a story of a boy named Rick who was sick often. We follow his journey as he dreams about cells healing his body and convincing him to be more physically active and healthy, sleeping early, and eating vegetables! Somehow, I believe this makes the kids who read this book convinced to live a healthy lifestyle too! 5 stars, this is a book that you will never get bored of reading even if you read it every day.
