description

Their future was defined by their roles.
Pecca Gallegos has finally found her new home - her son is safe from his father and she has a fulfilling career as a rehab nurse.

But her latest patient? He's a piece of work.

Colton Crawford is an army veteran and has a (probable) psychosomatic disorder. All he wants to do is get better and leave but his restless spirit is causing problems for his recovery.
Praying was supposed to bring peace. Hope. Answers. As of yet, the only thing praying did was make him feel utterly forgotten.
Despite his prickly demeanor, Pecca finds herself drawn to Colton.

But just when she thinks she's safe, they discover that someone is after Pecca and her son.

It's up to Colton to keep them safe - but when he can't even handle himself, how in the world is he supposed to protect someone else?
Pecca pressed her cheek to his chest and wrapped her armzs around his back....wanting nothing more than for him to be right.
So I jumped in on the third book of the series but it was so fun that I want to swing back up to the first.

I loved the character of Colton - his pain and determination to overcome those issues was absolutely riveting.

Pecca was such a great mom in this book - her character felt so natural and likable - I was invested in her story from page 1.

And their relationship? It had that essential spark that instantly told me that they would be an absolutely fabulous couple.

I did enjoy the plot for the most part...though it did feel like it was reaching a time or two but it wasn't overwhelmingly so.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book!

With thanks to the author and Baker Publishing for a free copy in exchange for an honest review

This story was great because of the characters. There’s action, twists, and all the elements you’d expect in a romantic suspense. But it was the characters that made this book stand out. The heroine and hero are real and flawed. The secondary characters are real and not 2D props. There is such hope too. Loved this book.

We went back to Georgia and sadly this is book three in the Harbored Secrets series.
It can be read as a stand alone. But why would you miss the first two?
It is a book with all the good stuff, romance and suspense.
You will connect with the characters and you will laugh and cry while reading it, then cry again when it comes to an end.
This is a must read 4 star series.

Silent Shadows delivers a delicious mix of romance and suspense that I've learned to expect from Natalie Walters. I enjoyed returning to Walton, a small town in Georgia that came to life for me while reading this series, and while you can read this as a standalone and enjoy it just fine, I recommend starting from the beginning and getting to know everyone from the get-go. It's just more fun that way.

Colton is a bit of a brooding lead, but he has his reasons. He's been dealt a tough blow, and he feels that his life has derailed. Pecca is one of those people with a indomitable spirit, but even she has to admit that she has to depend on the help of her close friends in Walton when it comes to the safety of herself and her son. Even though the romance is lovely, the true beauty in the story is from the friendships that are more like family, and the way they take care of each other.

The plot flows smoothly, giving the reader bits of pieces of danger, and how it connects to Pecca, until things escalate quickly and tensely at the end of the story.

Natalie Walters has been one of my favorite author discoveries, and I'm so glad that there are more books to come from her!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher; I was not required to post a positive review, and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.

Silent Shadows was the best ending to this series. I loved Pecca's story and the mother/son aspect in the book.

Colton was an amazing character and seeing his relationship progress with Pecca was sweet. He was also a great friend to Maceo (Pecca's son).

The suspense aspect was there, although not a favorite of mine. I just didn't connect to it, but the "danger" definitely made the story a quick read. I did guess who the "villain" was, though, which was fun. :)

All in all, Silent Shadows had wonderful characters and a good story. I recommend this series.

The Harbored Secrets series has been a very enjoyable series to read and Silent Shadows was a great finale. We see some recurring characters along with some new ones for the series that takes place in small town Walton, Georgia, near Savannah. Pecca returns for her own series as a nurse at a rehab facility for vets. The story has a unique story line with real likable characters, especially the older vets who are funny and tease each other, along with Colton, another vet who has some life altering troubles to overcome. The plot pulls you in right away and has a mystery that I thought I knew what was going on but was really not aware of who was involved and what was actually going on. This is a hard to put down suspense with danger, action, mystery, romance, humor, and faith. I recommend reading this series in order.

In the perfect ending to her Harbored Secrets series, author Natalie Walters weaves a tale of unpredictable suspense and a delightful romance that will keep readers highly invested in the storyline until the very last page. Despite the recent crime wave in the small town of Walton, Georgia, readers will wish that they could be a part of this close-knit community that protects its own and welcomes strangers as friends.

In Silent Shadows, Pecca Gallegos finds refuge in Walton, Georgia with her young son after trying to escape her past. While working as a nurse, sparks begin to fly between Pecca and her patient, Captain Colton Crawford. When Pecca suddenly finds herself in extreme danger, can Colton and Pecca discover who is after her before it is too late?

Natalie Walters continues to create wonderful heroes that her readers will fall in love with, which makes it difficult to pick a favorite hero from this series. Deputy Charlie Lynch, Deputy (now Agent) Ryan Frost, and Captain Colton Crawford…you cannot go wrong with any of these three extraordinary heroes.

Natalie Walters addresses Colton’s feelings of inadequacy and his struggle to find purpose in his life, due to his movement disorder, in a realistic and authentic manner. She shares the message of God’s faithfulness and goodness, and his never-ending grace.

Even though this is the conclusion of the Harbored Secrets trilogy, I would love to read a novella about Pecca’s sister Claudia someday. Her backstory and profession would definitely make for a wonderful romantic suspense novella.

Silent Shadows is highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense, and readers who enjoy novels by authors such as Lynette Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn, Dani Pettrey, Irene Hannon, and Rachel Dylan.

Whoa -- this romantic suspense was so good I've been stupefied into a state of dumbfounded speechlessness. But, since I can't end my review here, I'll try to rally a few words. :-)

First -- the profound message that is woven into every nook and cranny of this story. "...when we face hardships, whether by our own making or through circumstances beyond our control, that's when we have to turn everything over to God -- because only he has enough grace to turn our messes into blessings."

This is Colton's struggle as he tries to come to grips with his new reality. He's so focused on his disability that he's allowed it to define him from the inside out. And, oh, but that man is stubborn! Watching Pecca work her magic on him was fainting couch swoonworthy! Cue the fans and ready the smelling salts because there are some delightfully toe-curling scenes that are read-over-again-and-again perfection.

Despite the intensity of the suspense and the relationship complexities, Walters has included a healthy dose of humour to lighten things ups. Like the first time Pecca and Colton meet. Hilarious! And there's some sweet banter and fumbling try-not-to-show-I'm-attracted moments that still have me grinning. And some other I-am-definitely-attracted-and-I-don't-care-who-knows-it moments that left me weak in the knees.

Love that this story takes place over a matter of weeks rather than the intense few days blitz that's usual in romantic suspense. Lot's of time to develop the romance and build relationships in the community while still building the suspense up in the background. And then, just when I was lulled into a sense of security -- wham -- something creepy happens! I enjoyed the armchair sleuthing workout -- got a bit right, more wrong with one major twist I didn't see coming until it hit me between the eyes. Hence my stupefiedness. :-)

Walters impresses again. A blockbuster ending to a fantastic series.

This was such a beautiful ending to an amazing series. I have loved every single one of the books in this series and I am super sad to see it end. This is Mrs. Walters debut series and I cannot wait to see what she has up her sleeves for us in the future. I fell in love with this book from page one and I seriously read it all in like 4 hours. I could not put it down.

As always, Mrs. Walters crafts the best characters ever. Not only do we get to see characters from the previous books but we got to meet more enduring characters that were introduced in this book. Pecca was such an amazing female protagonists. I loved getting to know her character and watching her grow as the story evolved. I related to her in quite a few areas of her personality and way of thinking. Colton was a cinnamon roll that was so amazing. He was the best male protagonist for this story. His brooding ex-military personality made him all the more charming.

The side characters were just as amazing as the main ones. Especially the 8-Wing Vetersn. Oh my word, I loved these vets so much. I need to find myself some veterans like these men. They were hilarious and gave excellent advice. ;)

Pecca and Colton's romance was a main focus in this book but I really enjoyed it, like all the other ones previous in this series. They had the perfect chemistry and I loved watching them fall in love over the course of this book. It was so adorable!!

The plot, man oh man was this plot intense. I loved every minute of it and some of plot twists towards the end there.....oh boy were they surprises. I was in shock! I should have seen it coming, but I didn't and I was going crazy. But my word can Mrs. Walters craft a beautiful yet intense plot in her novels. They never cease to amaze me how amazing they are.

If y'all haven't picked up this series, yet you should! Baker Publishing House is having free shipping on any orders so during this lock down you can binge this whole series! It is worth the money and your time so go to it!!!

This book deserves more than 5 stars.
Wow! This book is the whole package. Great characters, a suspenseful plot, family dynamics and some humor to break the tension, not to mention the romance that heats up the pages— in a good way, after all this is a Christian Romantic Suspense novel. I couldn’t be more pleased with this third book of the Harbored Secrets series. Natalie Walters is a superb author. She ramps up the excitement in a totally believable story.
Pecca has a past that she is not proud of but is now a Christian. She tries hard to protect her son, Maceo, by moving away from trouble to a small town in Georgia. She takes a job as a nurse at Home for Heroes, working with wounded veterans. “My grandmother told me life is a series of choices. We should always strive to make the right ones, but sometimes we don’t. She said that when we face hardships, whether by our own making or through circumstances beyond our control, that’s when we have to turn everything over to God because only he has enough grace to turn our messes into blessings.”
The meeting with Colton Crawford is epic. She bowls him over. Colton has a disorder that
I was not familiar with. Nurse Pecca helps with his rehab and finds a caring but hurting soul.
Familiar faces from books one and two and a few new ones round out the characters from Walton, Georgia. Maceo is one brave little boy, having a challenge of his own. There is wise counsel from Chaplain Kelly.
Ms. Walters doesn’t skimp on laughs in this suspenseful tale. The wisecracks of the elderly veterans are priceless. She must have been channeling her inner Lucy Ricardo for a scene with an overflowing dishwasher. Could she be speaking from experience?
Don’t miss this whole Harbored Secrets series.
I am looking forward to reading more from this talented author.

This is definitely one of my favorite suspense series. While I haven't had the pleasure of reading the first book, I enjoyed the Captain America references of book two that led to the Incredible Hulk references in the conclusion of the series. Pecca is running from her past along with her eight year-old son who forms a bond with her most recent patient, a veteran dealing with an abnormal handicap. But there is someone hunting Pecca- and his family will be killed if he doesn't bring her in to a mysterious bad guy.

Pecca and Colton have great chemistry, with her being so upbeat and sweet all the time, and him trying to be less grumpy. And all the veterans in the D-wing were competing to be my favorite with their constant banter. I even liked the poor bad guy minion who has come to the point Pecca has run so hard to escape: having to choose between losing his family or betraying an innocent. A great addition to the romantic suspense genre.

Good romantic suspense series!

It was great to be back in Walton, Georgia. Pecca is such a lovely character and the way she first meets Colton is spectacular. I adored the veterans in the rehab facility where Pecca works as a nurse.

Both main characters come from Texas. Nice touch by the author to include a Whataburger reference. That is definitely a Texas favorite. The name of the town where Colton is from is Jasper. In the novel, it's said to be a small town north of Dallas. Jasper is actually a small town east of Houston. References to Jasper in the novel were few and the main point of Colton playing football in Jasper during high school could have occurred regardless of where it is located within the state.

I hope this author continues to pen more romantic suspense novels.

Silent Shadows is the third and final book in the Harbored Secrets series.
While I enjoyed books one and two in the series the author has definitely come into her own in this final book in the series as it's her best to date.
The plot is slow to start, nicely evenly paced but as we get three fourths in the pace picks up quite nicely and you'll want to read every word as to not miss any of the action.
I enjoyed "meeting" the veterans and seeing the compassion shown to them.
With well developed characters I am sorry to see this trip to Georgia is over but who knows we may see some of them again in a future romantic suspense series the author puts out.

There are SO MANY things to love about this book, where do I start?

LOVED...
how Pecca officially meets Colton, yeah that was literally a doozy!

what Pecca's real name is and how she got her nickname

her son, Maceo, is a DELIGHT throughout the story and SO well written

the veterans of D wing, they were wonderful and charming, made me smile countless times

the people of Walton, they were the PERFECT enhancement to Book 3 and I fully intend to read this series again just to be part of them once more

Colton's movement disorder, BRILLIANTLY and respectfully written for ANY soldier and the trauma they've been through with the military...however so well written that I NEVER saw this disorder as a weakness but simply a way for Colton to bond with Maceo and the other veterans as he recovers

never knew who the culprit was but MAN some really good and well timed attacks/distractions

the ONE person who is the bad guy in this doesn't ACT like the bad guy at all, but he has a conversation with Colton at one point and it gave it away for me how the man responds

the attraction between Pecca and Colton and the way her girlfriends tease her about it, SUCH A HOOT! Pecca blushes so many times while giving Colton the therapy he needs, but it's just adorable (she is used to working with older veterans at her job and Colton is not a soldier she is anticipating, lots of clean chemistry)

the references to Marvel movies and the main characters, yeah you gotta love Christian fiction with THAT added in

I didn't love this part but Pecca has a family member that completely surprises me and then I ended up utterly enjoying how THAT pans out. ALL in all, SUCH a great story with the most wonderful characters ever imagined! Pecca and Colton make the perfect couple and they are surrounded by the greatest friends in a small town, they are written SO REAL they feel like real friends to the reader as well. HIGHLY recommend this book AND this series, I can't wait for more books by this author.

Thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy. I was not required to write a positive review. The thoughts and comments are my own.

Return to Walton, Georgia for more suspense and romance in this third Harbored Secrets novel from Natalie Walters.

Nurse Pecca Gallegos hoped to escape the danger of her past, but of course, it cannot be as easy as moving to a new town. Threats push her toward her patient and Army veteran Colton Crawford, which only makes the circumstances more complicated and dangerous as feelings become involved.

It is easy to fall in love with Pecca and Colton in Silent Shadows. I enjoyed them individually and together, so I could not help enjoying following them through the twists and turns of this story. They definitely kept me on my figurative toes, and it proved the perfect way to wrap up the series.

I loved this story. Natalie Walters has created two very strong and true-to-life characters. I especially like that the hero, Colton Crawford, is not perfect. Well, neither is Pecca, but Colton has a war injury he’s dealing with and the story shows his struggle.

Another thing I like about the story is one of the ways Colton finds to heal–that of showing a seven-year-old boy he’s not limited by his handicap, that he can do whatever he sets his mind to. Of course, Colton has to convince Pecca to let the boy try to overcome the obstacles. Mama’s want to protect their kids, sometimes when they shouldn’t.

Pecca is a physical therapist in a rehab facility in Walton, Georgia named Home for Heroes. It’s a place for acceptance and healing. Not only for the soldiers who’ve been injured but Pecca and her son, Maceo. Oh, and the secondary characters are FABULOUS!

There’s Sarge and Gunny and Buddy and Sticks, and their ages run from 70 to 90 and are just what the doctor ordered for Colton. Seeing what they’ve overcome in their lives keeps him pushing forward.

Oh, and there’s suspense, too. Pecca is on the run from gang members and thought she’d found a safe haven in Walton. But they’ve found her and someone is out to kill her. It’s up to Colton to protect her.

What a finale! I have read and loved the earlier books in the Harbored Secrets Trilogy, and this one was a perfect ending. I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery and it kept me guessing. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out who exactly was after Pecca and why. When all was revealed it made for a super interesting conclusion. Another of my favorite aspects of the story was the humor. Natalie weaves that in flawlessly. I loved meeting all the gentlemen at Home For Heroes, the older fellows were a hoot and don't even get me started on Colton. He was quite the hero. If you love great Christian Suspense-don't miss this set! It's truly been fantastic and a favorite set for me.

This was a well written great suspence and a first time for me author. I though it was wholesome, plenty of spiritual aspects which was pleasing and had me curious as to a connection in the mystery. easy to keep track of who is who.

I did skim read all the romance sections I must confess; just glad there was a romantic hea so to speak but details otherwise would be ideal for the more "patient" readers who want lots of that...that is not a criticism is any way! I just smile and flick on past these years ;) The characters were realistic without any of the miscommunication goings on that drives me around the bin.

Recommendable for anyone really .

The third and final book in the Harbored Secrets trilogy was a pretty good suspense story. The first half seemed much more like a medical romance, as there was a lot less bad-guy movement than usual for the suspense genre, but the dates were fun and surprising, and Maceo was pretty adorable. I really enjoyed Colton’s battle with a movement disorder I was unfamiliar with. I felt I was taught a lot about it within the context of the story in a way that did not feel like being preached at over the topic.

There was some confusion about Pecca’s profession. She was declared to be a nurse, yet she seemed much more like a physical therapist. The only identifier ever given was “nurse.” A friend pointed out that there is such a thing as a “nurse psychotherapist,” whose job description lines up pretty well with Pecca’s behavior with her patients. I wish this job title would have been given from chapter one (or at all), as it’s interesting, different, and something I would enjoy reading about. Since all I was given was “nurse,” it felt like she (or at least her job or title) was misrepresented.

Oh, my heart loved the sports angle. During the COVID-19 illness the world is facing right now (in spring 2020), sports are absent from my life, which is abnormal to be sure. So reading about a child with only one leg being encouraged to play a sport was just what this sports fan needed during the last couple of weeks. Maybe there won’t be any NBA or NHL finals this season, but at least the little Warriors were there to be cheered for!

There were some inconsistencies with Juan that drove me batty. He insisted his maid and son both never use Spanish, yet he himself used it frequently. That was such a blatant double-standard that I could not empathize with him very much. Of course, it didn’t help that he was a creep who had cameras installed in his own home to keep eyes on his wife at all times. No one should be so forcefully controlled, y’all. However, the creepiness was very well written, and I definitely got the negative chills through several of his scenes, which is a good sign of being in the middle of a suspense book.

The plot was pretty decent with plenty of twists. The second half of the story especially kept a good pace, since the suspense part of the story came much more into play. I liked the variety of characters and personalities that clashed along the way. It was an enjoyable read for the most part, and if you’ve already read the first two books, you definitely won’t want to miss out on the finale to catch up with your favorite characters from Walton, Georgia, and maybe meet some new ones too.

Content: tobacco, alcohol, tattoos, gangs, crude gesture mentioned, one sexual “joke,” encouraging a young child to bet, light innuendo

Silent Shadows by Natalie Walters is a spellbinding romantic suspense. I turned the pages in anticipation of what would happen next. The characters are so likable and endearing. The story line is original, with a hero who is a war vet with a diagnosis of PMD. (I had never heard of before.) There is action with twists and a sweet and swoony romance which did my romantic heart good. This is the third book in the series, but could easily be read as a stand alone. I loved this book and I really do hope there will be a book about Claudia.

This is such a great conclusion to the series! There was a great mix of suspense, personal struggles, romance, and spiritual growth. Colton’s struggle really resonated with me in my personal chronic illness journey. I was encouraged and exhorted by the Christian message in this book.

Those who know me, know I don’t love a ton of romance. There was a good bit of physical attraction and thoughts about the other’s looks/physique. For my gauge, it was slightly high, but didn’t prevent me from thoroughly enjoying the book.

And the twist at the end! I totally did not see that coming. I knew who wasn’t after Pecca, but had no idea who was. It definitely had great suspense moments.

'Even Lazarus had to die before the Lord could do his work.'

Natalie Walters' debut novel, the first in her Harbored Secrets series was wonderful and I was happy to have found a new author to read. Book two was good and further cemented my decision to follow Walters. With the finale to the series, she has done her best work ever! This was the perfect ending! She has crafted wonderful characters, a great plot and the best cast of secondary characters a reader could want. Highly recommended.

All Pecca Gallegos wants to do is provide stellular nursing to her patients and raise her son in the quiet town of Walton, Georgia, but someone has other plans. Her world is turned upside down when her past returns to haunt her and she struggles with whether or not to flee…again.

Army Captain Colton Crawford comes to Walton in hopes of recovering from his disorder but when his nurse is threatened, he goes into protective mode.

Can Pecca and Colton discover who’s behind the threat while coming to terms with their feelings for each other before it’s too late?

Natalie Walters shines in this third and final installment of her Harbored Secrets series. Silent Shadows kept me turning the pages from the very beginning to find out what happens to these characters. The plot was solid with some twists that I really enjoyed.

I absolutely loved all the characters in this book. Pecca and Colton grabbed my heart as well as Maceo. The nurses and older patients in the Mansion made me laugh out loud.

The imagery used throughout was superb and places the reader right into the town of Walton. You will hold your breath as you wait for the mystery to unfold.

I give Silent Shadows five footballs. This pulse-dropping finale will keep you reading into the night to finish! Can’t wait for Natalie’s next series!

Silent Shadows is the third book in the Harbored Secrets series. While the books do have a few character crossovers, each of the three books can be read as complete stories in and of themselves. Silent Shadows is a thrilling tale about mistakes, gangs, wounded military heroes, and, of course, delicious romance.

Pecca would do anything to protect her son. Maceo has already faced so many challenges in his life, so she is determined to protect him from the gang violence of his father’s world. Pecca thought she was pretty safe in the small town of Walton, working as a nurse in the Home for Heroes, but when a serious of threats continue to target her and Maceo, she will need to rely on her newest patient, Colton, an Army Captain suffering from a muscle disorder, to keep them safe. But their physically safety might come at the risk of Pecca’s heart and dreams of the future.

There are some wonderful elements to this book. I particularly enjoyed young Maceo who dreams of being like the other kids and being able to play football, despite his prosthetic leg. He idolises Colton, who does such a wonderful job of encouraging Maceo and helping him to see himself for his full worth and not the bits he lacks. This book has a wonderful family vibe, from little kids football games, and after school play dates and all the troubles of kids in school.

I also really enjoyed the romance between Colton and Pecca. While they have a rough start, literally, that doesn’t last long and the attraction is mutual and strong. As they work together, both on Colton’s medical therapy and in trying to protect Pecca and Maceo from the looming threats, Colton and Pecca have some time to really get to know each other. I love that they talk about their dreams and the things they regret. It’s not all chemistry and kisses, though there is some of that, but also a few heart-to-hearts, which gives their relationship depth.

The war heroes of Ward D are hilarious and such a heartwarming addition to the book with their teasing, arguing over the best arm of the military and their support of Pecca and Colton’s relationship. Overall, there is such a welcoming and heartwarming hometown vibe to this book, which offsets the thrills and intrigue perfectly.

I have enjoyed every book in the Harbored Secrets series. It is so hard to see the series come to an end. Silent Shadows could stand alone but because some of the characters are in all three novels, it would be much better if you read the whole series. I especially enjoyed seeing those characters make a repeat appearance in this book too.

Silent Shadows has a storyline and suspense that kept me turning the pages quickly until I was done. I didn't figure out the ending either, which made it all the better. If anything, I do wish it had a little more of a faith element but it is a good, clean novel. I liked the main characters, Pecca, Colton, and Maceo from the beginning. Pecca and Colton both have a few real-life problems and are working to handle them. I liked the little bits of humor that added to the story and the humorous situations in a couple of places in the story. Except for those few murders (ha, ha), Walton, Georgia feels like a good place to live with a lot of likeable people and a town that is like many small towns in America. I would not only recommend Silent Shadows but the whole Harbored Secrets series. A bonus if you buy the whole series is that the covers, which are all beautiful, look so pretty together.

Silent Shadows is book three in The Harbored Secrets series by Natalie Walters. Army veteran Captain Colton Crawford dreamed of working on his family ranch when he left the Army.

However, that did not happen when an undiagnosed medical disorder changed that. To find answers, he booked himself into a medical clinic in Walton, Georgia, with a reputation for helping veterans. On his first day, he met Pecca Gallegos, a nurse at the clinic where he was a patient. When he learned about the threats to Pecca Gallegos and her son, he stepped up to protect her. The readers of Silent Shadows will continue to follow Colton Crawford and Pecca Gallegos to discover what happens.

Silent Shadows is Natalie Walters's third book, a fantastic addition to this excellent series. I enjoy the way Natalie Walters incorporates religion into her stories. I engage with this book from the first page, which continues to the end. Natalie Walters incorporates suspense in a way that will ensure her readers will engage with her books. I love Natalie Walter's portrayal of her characters and their interaction with each other. Silent Shadows is well-written and researched. I like Natalie Walters's description of Silent Shadows' settings, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

The readers of Silent Shadows will understand the importance of a retreat for veterans and their families to recover together. They will also learn about flag football and how this code of football can help children who can not play traditional football.

I recommend this book.
