Wolves Of Gypsum #3

The Omega's Muse

Rate this book
Henry

Packs = pain. That was drilled into me since I was a child, and honestly, I’m glad to be rid of mine. I’ve lived the life of a lone wolf for years, writing my way into enough rent and grocery money to live all over the country… albeit in as many backwoods, out of the way places as I can find.

I didn’t come to Gypsum thinking it would be anything special. After all, I didn’t want to find my alpha. I just needed to finish my next book. But with trouble brewing in town and my muse deserting me when I need it most, an unexpected connection with Jim might be my lifeline… or my undoing.

Jim

I’m only in my twenties, but I’ve got empty nest syndrome - hard. With both of my brothers wrapped up in their own lives, I feel like I’ve been left at loose ends. And losing my job hasn’t exactly helped in the ‘get out and keep myself busy’ department, either.

A chance meeting with Henry is enough to prove how captivating an older omega can be. Getting to work with him as an assistant is enough to keep me on my toes. But finding out he’s my mate? That’s a twist I never expected.

It’s clear that Henry is running from his past. I can only try to be the safe place he can land. But with hunters combing our woods and out of control alphas drawing attention to themselves, I’m afraid that safety and Gypsum might not be synonymous any longer...

The Omega’s Muse is a mpreg shifter novel featuring an eager alpha, a disgruntled omega, and one guaranteed happy ending. Each book in the Gypsum series can be read in any order.

This was a great story. It was well written and fast paced. The chemistry between the characters was sizzling hot. This book has everything you need to keep you turning pages hot sexy men, steamy scenes and some conflict thrown in. I cannot wait for what this author writes next.

All in the Gypsum family – plus some!

Preston Walker just continues to grow more sophisticated in his writing and in his choice of subjects, and if the photograph of Preston on his bio site is actually the author, then you know you are in for a man who knows how to write steamy erotica. Preston writes M/M paranormal shifter romances and does that very well. He is a pro on the M/M Mpreg Gay paranormal Romance (Mpreg being the goal of an Omega with the right Alpha male) – especially in this very sensitive THE OMEGA’S MUSE, Book 3 in his Wolves of Gypsum series.

We now know the little town of Gypsum and its inhabitants, we meet the alpha shifter Jim – ‘The surface of Okowaki Lake was calm and still, mirroring the sky above It was mid-October and I felt like the woods surrounding Gypsum were settling in for the winter. Everything was becoming quiet, Still, Serene. Not me, though. I had brought Lance Cook out onto the lake in my boat to talk, and I had plenty to say - but his blunt manner was, as always, making him a tough nut to crack.’ Characters from the other books in the series continue to inhabit the scene.

The synopsis is tight and well written as an introduction to both main characters – ‘Henry - Packs = pain. Jim - I’m only in my twenties, but I’ve got empty nest syndrome - hard.

Preston has created three-dimensional characters, not an easy task when molding wolf shifters! His prowess in delivering Mpreg wolf shifter alpha/omega men is highly polished and he just continues to grow as a successful author.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the third book in the Wolves of Gypsum series. In this book, Jim is working with Lance to unite the packs of Gypsum, but they are having problems with the bigger packs. One day while on his way home, Jim stops at the waterfalls to swim and he sees an omega he doesn't know. Henry is a writer who is a lone wolf, he doesn't have a pack, and he doesn't want one. Henry is in Gypsum in hopes of finishing his latest book, but he is suffering from writer's block. Jim has recently lost his job and he is feeling lonely at his house alone after his brother found his mate and his other brother is away working. When Jim sees Henry, he is really attracted to him and asks Henry to go home with him. Henry thinks it could be fun and agrees. They have a good time until Henry catches Jim reading his notes the next morning and sends him away. When Henry's publisher wants him to hire an assistant to help finish his book, Jom was the only one who answered the ad. Henry and Jim have an attraction to one another, but Henry is grumpy and hard to be around, but Jim continues to try to get close to him. Eventually Henry starts to make progress on the book and Jim makes progress on Henry. But Henry is planning on leaving when the book in finished and Jim is too involved with a pack for Henry to accept. I really liked this book, I like how Jim was younger, and even though he was an alpha, Henry was bigger and not like a typical omega. Henry was lonely, even if he didn't realize it and i think he didn't want to need Jim. I thought Jim and Henry were good together and i think Jim helped Henry reconnect with life. Another great one.

Meh. This wasn't exactly bad but it felt like a letdown.
The lovestory was nice enough as a whole, Henry being grumpy and disconnected from his own feelings was intriguing, but it felt a little forced at times.
But what is really bugging me is the backstory. We don't get any world building to speak of (which I would have appreciated), but there is an ongoing plot line throughout the series, of shifters being in danger of exposure and illegal wolf hunters trespassing in the woods around town. So I did expect some sort of development there. But this again was just sporadically mentioned, then used for an action-fueled showdown - and then dropped without a second glance. The ending was so unrealistic it actually hurt. Avoiding spoilers, but what can be considered a worst-case-scenario actually happens, the protagonists barely come out alive, and instead of calling for help, warning their family, doing damage control or whatever they just go home to have sex and maybe finish writing a novel. Who cares, right? And then to read in the epilogue as an afterthought, oh don't worry, everything was solved just fine, it's just not part of the story. Then don't effing make it part of the story!!! Aaaah!
So this is maybe average good as a romance, but the suspense part makes me want to scream. I'm giving a grudging 3 stars because I guess the romance is the main draw here, but I'm seriously disappointed. Don't promise action if you can't deliver!

Henry learned a long time ago that packs equaled pain. He’s been a lone wolf for a long time and he’s lived in many different small towns living off of his writing. Henry comes to Gypsum in hopes of curing his writer’s block so he can finish his next book. He wasn’t looking for a pack and certainly not his alpha.

For an alpha in his twenties Jim is feeling empty nest syndrome big time. With his brothers doing their own thing he doesn’t know what to do with himself. It doesn’t help matters when Jim loses his job. A chance meeting with Henry opens up so many opportunities he wasn’t expecting. He becomes Henry’s assistant and they work very well together. Discovering that Henry was his mate caught Jim off guard.

The story started out a little slow for me. Took me a few chapters to get into it. However, once the story progressed it started coming together. I was disappointed with how Jim was portrayed in this book. He came off as weak and lacking. To me Henry seemed more of an Alpha than Jim and I was hoping for so much more. I think there was a missed opportunity to make Jim shine.

Henry is an omega, when he was a little child he lost his wolf. When Henry turned 18 years old he left his pack to tray and make it on his own. Henry did not like the violence that he saw in his pack and wanted to get away from it. Henry would stay in out of the way places and write his books. After several years on his own he was doing good, but now he was having a problem focusing and writing his latest book. While Henry was out walking he met Jim, a young alpha. Jim and Henry spent a few hours together and the Henry told Jim to leave because he was looking in one of his journals. Henry was told he needed to hire an assistant so he runs and ad and Jim shows up for the interview. Henry and Jim agree to keep it professional and they work together to get Henrys book finished before the latest deadline. For a while this works and then they cross that line one night and everything changes. Will Henry be able to get his wolf back? Will Jim be able to keep Henry safe? Will they both find the love and family they are looking for?

I must admit when I first started this book I had my doubts. I love Preston Walker's books, but this is the first in this series I've read and I wasn't sure I wanted to like Hank. Hank is a writer and a shifter who has a bad attitude and is just a curmudgeon. Jim is not like most alphas, throwing their weight around, demanding and tough. He's a nice, normal guy (that shifts into a wolf). Hank is having trouble with writer's block and missing deadlines. When Hank needs to hire an assistant, Jim is it. I really don't know how Jim was able to work for Hank. He has issues stemming from an abusive upbringing and won't let anyone close. But with Jim's patience and perseverance Hank slowly lets his walls down. Once I got over Henry (everyone's not nice in real life either) I found myself rooting for them to get together. I loved that Jim didn't give up and ended up with the prize. All in all it was worth reading. Give Hank a chance and see what the love of a good man can do. Henry left his violent blood pack, where he had been abused for being an omega and had lived alone since. His wolf seemed to have disappeared, and he wad developed writer's block, which threatened gis livelihood, and unless he could fix it, he might have to go back to the pack that terrified him. His publisher is insisting that he needs an assistant to help him meet a deadline.
Jim's brothers have left home, and he is feeling empty and alone. When he meets Henry, it's instant attraction, a great one night stand. When Henry advertises for an assistant, Jim applies - without either of them realising who the other is, until Jim arrives at Henry's house.
Will they be able to find peace with each other? Or will the bullies in town win, and cause Henry to run again? Will Jim be able to convince Henry that not all packs are evil and violent? Loved this story!

Henry is an older omega he’s a writer but he’s lost his muse, he doesn’t like packs after what his pack had done to him so he moves to a small cabin outside of Gypsum. Jim is an alpha who’s in his 20’s he’s just lost his job and his brothers have found their mates which leaves him wanting his own, when Jim and Henry meet there’s an instant attraction and they spend a drunken night together then they realise that they are fated mates but it doesn’t go over too well with Henry. Henry doesn’t want nothing to do with Jim’s pack but when he realises that Jim has brought back his muse Henry hires Jim to be his assistant. There is danger out there with the hunters they have already killed natural wolves and shifters so will Jim be able to keep Henry safe and will Henry be able to get over his problem with packs and join Jim’s?. Another fantastic story by Preston Walker and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

I recieved this book for Free to Give My True & Honest Review

Here we have a stranger into the town of Gypsum, Henry, an Omega. Henry's a reclusive writer who's been stuck with the writing of his latest novel & that's why he's decided to get away, to get the inspiration he needs, not expecting the 1st person he sees swimming naked in the cool autumn air is a younger alpha Jim whom they both seem to have a straight attraction for each other.
We see how quickly things move quickly between them, even after a kicking out situation. Things don't end there after Jim gets an interview with his 1 stand night lover Henry.
So here we see how things change between them, they either go great or are in tormoil. But Jim is Henry's Muse, but it's really only after Henry gets a surprise & realises that he wants /needs Jim that the Wolf in him & he hasn't seen/ felt in decades shows himself & what a timing to do so.
Lovely love story

I’m not sure how I feel about The Omega’s muse. To start, this 3rd book in The Wolves of Gypsum series should be read in order. As with the second there is a strong dependency on the previous story to be able to understand the peripheral plots. The main characters in this story, Jim and Henry, meet by chance and go through rocky times to reach their HEA. It was a nice change to have the age difference flip to the omega being the elder, but the story felt a bit disjointed. It was as if we would begin down a particular path of character development, the. It would stutter.

This was a decent book for all that, and the first two in the series were quite enjoyable. I’m hoping there will be more books in the series, and if so this book will prove to be an important bridge.

When you need to 180, will you? Henry, Omega is a successful author with writers block. He was raised in a non-friendly violent pack. He is now anti-pack! He arrives in Gypsum hoping for inspiration. Jim, Alpha recently unemployed becomes his assistant. Jim is working to navigate and improve pack politics. Jim inspires Henry to start writing again. In the moment, they connect. They recognize each other as mates, but Henry pushes Jim away. Thir pack views alone create a steep relationship challenge. They go through a series of conflicts and adventures that further challenge their relationship. But, you can't escape mates, so will they step up? Can Henry drop his baggage and pick up the future with Jim? Can Jim inspire Henry to take a chance? Can Henry overcome the emotional abuse? Can Jim Alpha? Nice story. I really enjoyed reading this younger alpha/older omega wolf shifter romance, I found the plot quite well-written & intriguing with the trials & tribulations that the main characters had go through to get their HEA.
There is: a lone-wolf omega with bad memories from an abusive past is suffering with writer’s block & the loss of his wolf (Henry), an alpha wolf shifter realizes after a encounter that Henry is his mate (Jim Adams), twists & turns, intrigue, drama, wolf shifters, pack politics, unification plans, hunters, fated mates, loneliness, memories, attractions, danger, threats, some violence, conflict, intimidation, disagreements, misunderstandings, heartache, discovery, surprises, acceptance, love, contentment & a heartwarming happy ending.

Henry moved to Gypsum to try and break his writers block then he encounters Jim.
Omega Henry was having trouble with his latest book so had moved to an isolated cabin outside the town of Gypsum to try and get around the block he had with his writing. While walking near Butchers Falls he spots a young man diving off the falls and into the pool below and when the man asks him to bring his clothes down from the top he does then heads down. Alpha shifter Jim watches the good looking older man walking down towards him and is attracted so much so he propositions him and they head for Henry's cabin. A MM Mpreg romance to relax and enjoy.

4.5 🌟's Ending his Writer's Block
Seclusion, quiet, Scotch, a fireplace, a laptop and piles of paper. What else does a former best-selling author need to get his groove back? Yet all he's getting is drunk, frustrated, and very angry.

How can he possibly write a book when he can't pull his words together anymore? He knows how much trouble he's in but can't seem to get out of the terrible downward spiral he's experiencing.

I really like how this book involved a much older and established Omega with a younger more level-headed Alpha. They were such opposites. One loved family / pack while the other hated both - no he actually feared them. Luckily for the Omega - the Alpha had great advice and encouragement from his pack to not give up no matter how many times he'd been pushed away.

Another instalment of the Wolves of Gypsum series. Each book is a stand alone story but characters from the other books are often included.
Jim has always lived in Gypsum but is finding it very hard to hold onto a job. When the snow arrives he hopes it will be easier.
Henry has come to Gypsum in the hope that a change of scenery will help him overcome his writers block. Unfortunately his editor is unwilling to wait and orders Henry to employ an assistant.
After a one night stand both are shocked when Jim turns up for the assistant job.

Sweet, kind Jim gets his story
And I loved it. Why? Many reasons, not least is the fact that although Jim is the alpha in the story, he's younger than Henry. Henry is the one to lay the boundaries in the relationship and to set the pace. And the big thing? Jim maybe the alpha but he has the smaller (but perfectly formed) dick and both Henry and Jim are more than happy with that, and that small detail right there, I loved.
You see size really doesn't matter, it's how you use it that counts. And boy does these guys know how to give a fabulous blow job!
I love this series.....now who's next to have their voices heard I wonder?

Omega's Muse is the third book in Preston Walker's series, The Wolves of Gypsum. An older, jaded omega struggling to find his muse again for his writing.... an alpha looking to belong.... these two men find each other and what blooms is a great love story with drama, steam, and sweetness. I especially like the older omega, younger alpha dynamic. I really enjoyed this book and thought it was a great addition to the series.

3 stars

This is the third book in the series and can be read as a stand-alone.

I struggled to get into this story - the characters just didn’t do nothing for me. Henry was an acquired taste and suffice to say, I didn’t particularly take to him. He was cold, abrupt and had more temper tantrums than a toddler.

Jim and Henry - their chemistry was seriously lacking and their connection was dull.

The ending was intense and gripping.

Jim and Henry seem to want different things in life and they have different views, but their attraction is undeniable and they compliment each other in ways they do not yet understand. A moment of clarity finally shoves all denials out of the way, allowing their love to show, their connection to grow, and leads to their sweet HEA.
A lot of troubling issues, angst, heartbreak, stress, loneliness, danger, and unease runs throughout this story before joy and love shines through.

Jim is at loose ends, and his self esteem took a hit as well. Henry is only in Gypsum to write his book but it will not write itself. He avoids people and shifters alike. The Alpha's son is beyond frustrating, continues to lead the pack in trouble, and his Alpha refuses to reign him in. Their relationship is off to a terrible start, and so much happening with the packs. It's a perfect storm you cannot stop reading. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Jim is lonely, unemployed and looking for something else. Jim get a job as Henry assistant and is trilled when he finds out they are mates and struggles with Henry's rejection of packs and wont talk about mates until the book is finished. Henry is scared of pack life after his childhood terrors and has lost contact with his wolf, he struggles with the fact that Jim is his mate and has a pack. He also just want to finish his book with out any interference.

Henry is an omega who writes for a living and spends most of the time by himself. Jim meets him and becomes his assistant. During a night they discovered they were fated mates. They both fight through Henry not wishing to be a part of the pack. Troubles come in the form of human hunters and other shifters. Henry and Jim fight to get their HEA ending, which they do.

I found this book a bit different then the others in the series. It seemed like there was a bit of a roll reversal when it came to the usual alpha and omega relationship.

Jim is more of a tender soul and not the usual alpha type and Henry was very aggressive, outspoken and assertive.

But I really enjoyed the book because it wasn’t your normal alpha/omega style. And I’m excited to read whose story is next

There were so many contradictions between Henry and Jim, yet fate won't be denied. Omega Henry is almost more like an Alpha than an omega after years of living on his own. He was hard to like at first, but considering the pack he grew up in, his curmudgeonly attitude had its reasons. Not my favorite book in this series, but still a sweet love story.

Jim and Henry are the couple for the latest in the Gypsum series and their story so needed to be told. It is full of angst, loneliness, misunderstandings, drama and love. Jim has to fight for every precious moment with Henry and wait for him to accept him, his wolf and his pack. The finally get their HEA and it is brilliantly done.

This was a cute and fun quick read. I've enjoyed this series so far and always ready for the next one. This was a an unexpected finding your mate when you least expected type of story and it was a really sweet read with some steamy scenes. U found the story and charcaters to both be enjoyable which made this an easy and quick read. I always look forward to the next books from this author!
