One Midsummer’s Knight an Anthology

Unicorn Summer By Lesley Townsend 10th June, 2019

Talented novelist Ms Townsend has written Unicorn Summer, a charming novella rich with lyrical prose.
In June 1220, on the eve of Midsummer, Saint John’s Eve, Ffion must walk alone around the 20 mile boundary of Faircrest because, Lord Tancred, her father is too ill to accompany her. She fears Sir Bors, a crude knight, whom she will marry to protect Faircrest, will accost her.
“On a peninsula, Faircrest is rich in timber, wheat, sheep and oysters, its people healthy, well-fed and strong. A welcome land-grab for a greedy knight.”
When she sets out in the morning, “the pale grey predawn misted around Ffion’s limbs. Fog shimmered from the moat trailing her like a cloak of pearl.”
Sir Bors catches up with her and tries to molest her, in her attempt to escape him, Ffion forgets the Faery Pool is in the middle of the river. She falls backward and knows no more until she awakens in faeryland.
She has been saved by a unicorn who sometimes hears a woman say he is being punished for his pride and cruelty. Tired of his solitary life he wonders who he is and who he was.
I recommend this traditional fairy tale for adults and young adults. Appreciative of the delightful prose I shall read it again.

Unicorn Summer

Such a different and cute story! Ffion finds herself transported to a faery world and has lessons to learn...and to teach. Sir Randal is already there and has to prove he's learned his lessons and is ready to change.

Written with almost a lyrical rhythm, Unicorn Summer delivers an unique twist and a charming voice to share both valuable truths and a sweet hea.

MIDSUMMER’S PROMISE
Kathryn and Richard's story charmed me with their connection, with the touch of special/otherworldly, and with the depth of the world built. This story packs a hard punch and I loved it!
